Hey guys, maybe it's obvious for some of you, but I was able to install with no problem the Redesigned (not only updated) Dragon Center, downloading it from the GT72VR support page as it was not available from the utilities of my model (?).
It brings on the table a lot of features I could have found only in the Ark app by Logitech :)
    Enjoy!

This problem when the laptop loads the msi logo and then shuts off...I know what I did to fix it. Not permanent but hey it worked for me. Hit F3 immediately when the boot process starts. Go into System repair advance and act like your going to restore the system...did you get something about the disk having a problem? Hit that link thry give you to fix disk. Once fixed...reboot computer and see if it boots right into your desktop. Works for me

When I tried to do a system reset to my laptop, the screen was stuck on the MSI logo but I could see that the hard drive light was flashing like it was loading without refreshing the screen. I guessed that it was a driver issue and created an updated windows USB installer instead. I reinstalled windows without getting stuck on the MSI logo. Not sure if I was right but it did fix it for me.

I also have been having this issue, I talked to MSI support and walk me through this process, although I got an error when checking the disk, but still after doing this step I was able to boot normally into my computer and updated all my drivers to the latest version. haven't had any issue so far.

    YES YES YES

I did not try this before. I had already packed the laptop in a box coming from Fort Knox and was about to be shipped.
I could not resist and do this last try. Unpacked and the F3 did it !!!

I just continue booting to OS and it did.
I got a msg to repair the disk. Rebooted and the issue seems to be completely gone.

I checked the logs and see:

Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume4) moet offline worden gehaald voor een volledige Chkdsk. Voer CHKDSK /F lokaal uit via de opdrachtregel of voer REPAIR-VOLUME <station:> lokaal of op afstand uit via PowerShell.

(translated to: volume 4 has be be taken offline for a complete chkdsk)

So, there was an issue on my drive.

    I have 4 SSD's in RAID.

Is there any tool to check the SSD's and maybe read some more detailed info on errors in the RAID config?

THANKS a lot for the help here. I'm glad I have my machine back online !!!!

Thats good to hear. The mobile link works using my university wifi for some reason. Also, does FN + F4 work for you anymore? i completely lost functionality for P1 and need it back to launch Dragon Center

Wow that looks weird and also it produced a few bootup errors on my system. Reverted back to the previous one.

Does the new version have anything useful to offer?

Installed on a GT72 2QE and no problem at all. However, I didn't uninstall the previous dragon gaming center and the 2 panels were running at the same time. I just uninstalled the previous version.
The newer is better but it just add back some buttons removed from latest SCM, so it's pretty useless in the end...

    Howdy all,

After downloading new utilities from the MSI page, I have two issues:
    1. The new SCM stays stuck at 99% while installing.
    2. SteelSeries 3 works, except that the the SteelSeries button does nothing. On SteelSeries 2, it was switching profiles which was cool. Now in the software the button is assigned to "SteelSeries", and nothing happens.

Would be hugely grateful for any insights!

Hey owners, I think my beloved GT780 (see sig) has met up with father time after almost 4.5 years of use. I am now looking to buy a new msi computer as I fell in love with my gt780 and have faith in them.

But man are they expensive now! :D So I'm mostly a browser, movie watcher and gamer, usually not of the most popular games, but I'd like my laptop to last me 3-5 years and still feel like a "mid-level" laptop in about 3-4 years time (I might be cheated by bias, but I feel like my gt780 was definitely still nice for newer games too!).

My questions are mostly GPU vs. price related.

    Spec 1:
    MSI GT72VR 6RD-034NE
    i7-6700HQ
    16GB ram (DDR4-2133 MHz)
    GTX 1060 6 GB
    Full HD Matrix display
    128GB SSD + 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
    $2220

    Spec 2:
    MSI GT72 6QD-1004NE Dominator G
    i7-6700HQ
    8GB ram (DDR4-2133 MHz)
    GTX 970M 3 GB
    Full HD IPS display
    128GB SSD (NVMe) + 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
    $1730

    Spec 3:
MSI GT72S 17.3" Full HD matte
    i7-6700HQ
    16GB ram (DDR4-2133 MHz)
    GTX 980M
    Full HD G-Sync
    128GB SSD + 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
    $2150

    Spec 4:
    MSI GT72VR 17.3" FHD matte G-SYNC
    i7-6700HQ
    16GB ram (DDR4-2133 MHz)
    GTX 1060 6 GB
    Full HD Matrix display
    128GB SSD + 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
$2220 (But only maybe available in a month, and my laptop is dead now)

    Spec 5:
    MSI GT72S 17.3" FHD matt
    i7-6820HK
    16GB ram (DDR4-2133 MHz)
    GTX 970M 3 GB
    Full HD IPS Matrix display
    128GB SSD (PCIe) + 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
    Computer bag incl.
    $2100

    Spec 6:
    MSI GT72S 6QE-054NE Dominator Pro G
    i7-6820HK
    16GB ram (DDR4-2133 MHz)
    GTX 980M 4 GB
    Full HD IPS Matrix display
    256GB SSD + 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
    $2600

First of all, I am in Norway, so don't mind the prices on their own, look rather at the percentage increase/decrease in price, please.

So as you see, there are a lot of options, and little differentiates them. I am quite inclined towards spec 1, as it has the 1060 and I can go and have it in my hands tomorrow. But spec 2 is $500 cheaper (25%), although it "only" (??) has a 970M and 8GB RAM (but I don't really need more?). A nice chunk of money.

I guess spec 1 is better than spec 3, no? Although I read that 980M is better at some things while 1060 is better at others, notebookcheck's tests show about 20% better FPS in games from 1060 though. But spec 3 has 980M with G-Sync, how does that compare to 1060 without G-Sync? Spec 3 is also about $70 cheaper (3-4%).

Spec 4 is probably the best, but is only pre-order for now, and says "approx available October 20th", so it's not even for sure to be out then, and how will I survive a month without a laptop? :D

Spec 5 and 6 are alternatives, although 6 is probably way out of my price range, but spec 5 has the newer i7-6820HK and the older 970M card. Also $120 cheaper (5-6%)

edit: I forgot to say thanks for any replies to my lengthy (and not very interesting) post!

Well, I went all in and got spec 1 from my post above. I have an older Samsung 840 EVO 512gb SSD in my old laptop that I'd like to use, as the ssd on this new one is only 128gb and so many games nowadays require at least 20gb of space, and I feel like games run way better if installed on an SSD (right?).

So how can I go about doing this? I take out the dvd drive and plug the SSD into something like this, which I then install into the laptop?

edit: Oh! Also, do I just run driver fusion and let it do the work for me, or what?

On the theory that a good PC can manage most everything until the next console gen [not this NEO/Scorpio half-step to accommodate UHD], the GTX 1060 is minimum and will usually involve a bit of settings tweak needed more and more often.

A GTX 1070 is more likely to achieve that feeling of a newer mid-level laptop long term.

    Hey folks,

my GT72 has come back from RMA and has been reset to factory image. I removed 2 of the ssds before I RMA'd as they were aftermarket purchases. I want to have raid0 across my 3 ssds, i have put them back in the notebook, but windows explorer, disk management, and diskpart cannot see them.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Edit, cleaned all the ssds, now reinstalled using the recovery option and win 8.1 doesn't recognise the key. HALP?

Did you make the MSI BurnRecovery flash recovery drive yet? You will need a 32GB USB 3.0 drive to write the 18GB of recovery data.

Once you make that bootable drive you can try this method - since you have 3 SSD's, you can make a 2 x SSD RAID using your other 2 SSD's, and then use Macrium Reflect to clone your OS SSD to the new RAID Volume - then pull that drive and boot on the new 2 x SSD RAID, and then use Intel RST to add the 3rd SSD to the new RAID volume.

    0) Back up the current MSI OS Image using MSI BurnRecovery.

    1) Pull out the OS SSD, and leave in the 2 other SSD's.

    2) Boot into the BIOS and make the RAID volume out of the 2 M.2 SSD's.

    3) Power off and install the OS SSD.

    4) Boot on the OS SSD into Windows, Install Macrium Reflect Free

    5) Run Macrium Reflect Free and see the OS drive, and the RAID Volume, Clone the OS drive to the RAID Volume.

    6) Shutdown and Power Off.

    7) Pull the single original OS SSD.

    8) Boot into the new 2x RAID OS volume to make sure it is working.

    9) Reboot into the BIOS and set the RAID volume as the default boot volume, this is so when you put the original single SSD OS drive back in, you boot on the new RAID volume instead of the single SSD.

    10) Reboot into Windows to verify it boots again, and then shutdown and power off.

    11) Put the original single SSD OS drive back in.

    12) Boot into Windows, verify the size of the C drive to make sure you booted on the RAID Volume instead of the single OS SSD.

    13) Assuming you already have Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed (Intel RST), start it up and use it to add the 3rd SSD to the RAID volume - yes this is the trick that gets that drive added to the volume :)

The add usually takes a while, and takes longer if you are using the laptop while the new drive is added to the RAID volume.

    intel rst add disk.JPG

    14) After the RAID add is complete, reboot.

Now you have all 3 SSD's as part of the same RAID volume, and you have that USB 3.0 Recovery Flash drive as backup.

It should see the key from the BIOS, go into Windows Activate and it should automatically recover it, you shouldn't need to add it, just leave it blank when asked at install time.

You may need to go through the MS phone activation to get it recognized and activated if this doesn't work.

I thought you restored the MSI image? You wouldn't need any DVD's for that :)

Are you trying other DVD keys?

You could trying a full restore again, and then skip adding the key, and let Windows activate it once booted into Windows - it should find the key and activate automatically.

I want to set a custom refresh rate in nvidia control panel. I tested @ 100hz (no good) 110hz (good) and 120hz (good), but I can't save these, any idea why? Currently sat @88hz as a custom resolution.

What error do you see when you try to save the custom resolutions with 110hz/120hz?

No error. It just doesn't give it as an option in the custom drop down box. Like it won't save any refresh rate over 100hz even though it is stable.

Has anyone tried to update the Thunderbolt firmware. I was checking the Official MSI page re firmware updates and MSI is saying you have to have the latest system BIOS before you can update the firmware of the thunderbolt3 port. Im afraid of updating the bios as a lot of people are saying if there is nothing wrong with your system its best not to update the system BIOS. I would like to be able to update the thunderbolt port without having to deal with bios updates... Im planning on getting the Razer core and installing a gtx 1080. Any thoughts on this guys?

Bricked my 980M by flashing wrong bios and now the laptop is at black screen. I think its stuck at BIOS because when I press F10 and Enter it reboots. I removed the card to force it to boot into Intel GPU. How do I flash the BIOS on 980M.

Talk to the developer(s) of the custom vbios, they have a lot of experience with recovering from these problems. They usually have a USB based recovery method for blind flashing.

If it's a Svet vbios, ask Svet nicely, but first try to find a post about recovery here:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=148273.0

If it's a Prema vbios, you can go here for support:
    https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/2442-biosvbios-mods-prema-mod™-stock/

    Here's a quick update from my GT72 2QE.

For the past year I've been having an issue with sometimes randomly having the laptop switch from AC power to battery for a second and then keep going back and forth, even though the adapter was plugged in. This was usually happening when under load while gaming or heavy usage of the CPU/GPU. The result was stuttering and screen dimming which basically got annoying very quickly. The mystery in all this is that the problem kept coming and going. It would be like that for a week, then I wouldn't notice it for a month, then it would re-appear...

MSI support was of no particular help and the only thing they kept saying was send the laptop in for inspection. This is fair enough but I couldn't do that, as I need it for work every day and it was going to take a really long time.

I then asked them where I can find a replacement AC adapter to buy on my own expense, as I believed this was most likely the cause. All they had to say again was please send the laptop in and refused to tell me where I can just buy a replacement adapter... Really, really weird.

Two days ago I finally decided to risk it and get one myself from a 3rd party. I found a Delta (same manufacturer as the original) 330w adapter on amazon with the correct pin. This is about 100w more than the original one but people in the reviews suggested that they had used it with GT72s with no problem. The price was £58 so I decided to risk it. The only drawback is that this brick is a little bigger than the original one but surprisingly, not much heavier.

I have now been using it for a few days and I haven't noticed the issue yet. Hopefully it was just a dodgy adapter and there's nothing wrong with the laptop... I guess time will tell.

I am now wondering if the laptop will be able to take advantage of the extra 100w. I know it has hybrid power built in but what I don't know is how it detects the AC power limit. Will it realize that now the adapter can give 330w before it starts using the battery as well or will it still cap at 230w?

The power draw will be limited to whatever original adapter is capable by BIOS/FW. I Don't think you will be able to take advantage of extra capacity.

A worn AC adapter may not produce the same amount of power rating as they were rated when it was brand new. If you have power meter you can use it to measure the amount of power being drawn from the AC outlet to verify. Since the NB's EC firmware (embedded controller) controls how much power can go through the DC jack which isn't able to fully utilize the whole amount of 330W.

Thanks guys. No problem with that at least it looks like it's working fine with the new one. It also was cheaper than getting one from MSI apparently.

    Hey guys one more question:

I had noticed that my battery wear level was at 17% which was much more than the last time I had checked. It was originally 0.3% i believe.

I decided to run the battery calibration tool (win10 version) to see if it helped.

The process seemed like it worked fine but now the wear level is 25%!!! So it made things much worse.

Any idea what I can do at this point? I don't believe this reading is 'real' as it can't have lost so much capacity in one discharge cycle! Seems unreal.

Question for you all. I just got a GT72 with Gtx980m. Have about 3 days left to return it to retailer.

Since the new GT72vr is now out should I return the older tech laptop for the newest version?

I like the MUX switch and Thunderbolt 3 port in the older 72, but the much improved GPU that's vr ready makes trading up almost a no brainer...

I really use this laptop 90 percent for work.

This newbie looks forward to getting your opinions.

    Thanks

I don't even trust software tools to really know battery wear levels.

The GTX 1070 is a huge upgrade, I'd definitely go with the GT72VR.

It magically switched back to 17% wear... What do you know...

Kinda. A huge GPU upgrade, whilst losing MUX and DVD/BluRay and RAiD ability for SSD's.

Thanks to those who responded to my post. Still trying to decide between gt72 and gt72vr.

I am still trying to confirm this but it appears that the GT72vr also lost Thunderbolt 3 capabilities on its USB 3.1 Type C port and is just a gen2 port. MSI has conflicting info out about this.

    So with GT72 (Gtx980m) I have
    - 3 m.2 ports
    - A MUX switch
    - A true Thunderbolt 3 port
    - But only a gtx980m GPU

    VS

    GT72vr
    - 1 m.2 port
    - No MUX switch
    - No Thunderbolt 3, only USB 3.1 C
    - Much better 10xx GPU

Which laptop better choice as both about same price to me.

My uses are 90 percent business uses.

    Your input and opinions valued.

At this late date I wouldn't spend money on a Maxwell product, unless you are getting it for a ridiculus price.

And the GT72VR is a gutted version of the previous generation GT72S, MSI dropped from a CM236 back to an HM170, losing lots of features - down from 4 M.2 ports to 1 M.2 port, no MUX switch so dGPU only.

If you can swing it, get a GT73VR, 1070 single or 1080 single, that's where to invest $ if you want to get an MSI this season.

So I'm running the GT72VR 6RE and the Bluetooth service keeps acting up. When it doesn't work, it no longer is responsive to my mouse but it still thinks its connected because my touchpad won't activate. Also, If I go to Settings/Devices, the Bluetooth selection on the left pane is not there. If I look at the Bluetooth mouse, it still shows it paired (which is probably why my touchpad wont appear). I have to restart the laptop quite a few times for the service to start working correctly again. I'm not sure if the Bluetooth driver is in the Killer Network drivers, SCM or standalone.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

After updating BIOS from E1782IMS.11B to E1782IMS.11D the display refresh rate is only 60 Hz prior to 75 Hz with NVIDIA graphics.

    Has anybody else this problem!?
