Guys, issues with my gpu again. A couple of weeks ago, my gpu was stuck in pcie x16 v2.0. I updated my BIOS, everything ran smooth. BF1-120fps, GTA5-90+fps, GhostRecon-70+fps all ultra settings (driver378.77). A few days ago, GhostRecon was stuck at 23-24fps and so did GTA5. BF1 was doing 120fps tho, dunno why. So I did a clean installation of the new drivers and it has kind-of sorted out the issue. Except that performance has decreased at the same settings - GTA5 now gets around 75-85fps, Ghost Recon 60fps. BF1 remains same.
Is anyone experiencing this and/or know a solution? -
Ok thanks Shehary. This was the first time I shut the computer down on battery and then plugged it in and turned it on. Hope MSI fixes this issue!hmscott likes this.

You can't cross flash EC from a different model because it will brick your system.
However, 6RF & 7RF are using the same version of EC thus explained the PCB is possibly identical except the inclusion of CPU microcode support for 7th gen in the 7RF.Atma, Spartan@HIDevolution, Donald@Paladin44 and 1 other person like this. -
My last gaming laptop before the GT83VR was an Asus G752 and it had a stuck pixel. Where is your stuck pixel? Is it in the spot where you notice it? That one was a refurb that I got at discount so I think it was returned because of the dead pixel. Laptop otherwise worked great and had a 970m. Sold that and I was actually going to get another Asus until I looked at the MSI GT83VR.
First one I had did have a static noise issue which was unbearable. Second replacement, no more noise. Both laptops had no stuck pixels though, so I can't believe you got two with stuck pixels. You would think the manufacture of these screens would test the displays for dead/stuck pixels. You are going to have to decide if you can live with it or not. If you love everything else about it I wonder if MSI would replace it for you. -
Hi guys great forum thread. I've just jumped off the Asus boat from a G752VS and climbed aboard the MSI GT73VR Titan Pro vessel. OMG what a difference!
The MSI is an infinately better laptop. Build quality, functionality, reliability, looks, feel... I could go on, ha.
I buy from amazon and am so glad I do. They were so good when I told them I wanted to return the Asus, I'd had it for over a month. I had the (appalling) trackpad
losing some of its functions after resuming from sleep issue. I contacted Asus and they just told me to reinstall the drivers, which I did, but it made no difference.
Then Asus just kind of washed their hands of the whole situation, no follow up emails or concern about my issue. I tried to live with it but eventually gave up.
Also, no matter what HDMI cable I tried, I could not get it to relay a 4K@60hz in 4:4:4 chroma picture to my TV. It would just return a 'no signal' response on my TV screen.
No such trouble with the MSI. It worked straight out of the box. 4K@60hz in 4:4:4 chroma on my TV looks great. I'm so pleased.
So, (please forgive my pre-amble) to my question.
I notice that there is a 'warranty void' sticker on one of the screws on the bottom panel.
I want to remove the 2.5inch HDD that came with the laptop to replace it with my 2.5inch SSD.
Will doing this really void my warranty?
Thanks guys, great thread.
Ive only had the MSI for 3 days and reading your posts encouraged me to update my Bios and VBios. I always get nervous doing stuff that could brick the system.Atma, Spartan@HIDevolution, DukeCLR and 2 others like this. -
Short and quick answers
1. Removing warranty sticker and upgrading hdd, ssd or ram, cleanning laptop fans, repasting cpu n gpu will not void the warranty unless you damage something.
2. If your laptop have no performance issue...updating or flashing bios n vbios not necessary....if you still wana do it...not very difficult....just follow the instructions...Atma, Spartan@HIDevolution, Coruscator and 1 other person like this. -
Ups -_-
I have reported to Amazon UK that the replacement also has a dead/stuck pixel, so now they believe that their entire stock needs to be revised so the laptop has been pulled from their offerings. So for UK/EU residents this laptop is currently unavailable from Amazon UK seller -_-Atma, Spartan@HIDevolution, DukeCLR and 2 others like this. -
Welcome tot he forums @Coruscator, I'll back up what @Shehary has said here, I actually filed a ticket with MSI to verify that the sticker can be removed. I also am running the original BIOS, Firmware and vBIOS without any issues.Atma, Coruscator, Shehary and 1 other person like this.

Thank you for your welcomes and replies, very much appreciated.
Ive have just performed open heart surgery on her and am pleased to report everything is well.
I must say I am really impressed with the build quality inside too.
The heat sink on top of the two M.2 PCIe SSD's, I thought, was a nice touch. The Asus G752VS I had previously just had a thin metal cover.
Thank you for your input on the Bios and VBios. I upgraded these yesterday. I'm a stickler for having the latest drivers/firmware/Bios etc.
Gladly the firmware was already the current version, so I didn't have to meddle with that.
What a laptop! Phew, I played GTA 5 Online for 6hrs last night in 4K@60hz in 4:4:4: Chroma and she didn't miss a beat.
My neighbours did think I was attempting vertical take off in a Harrier jump jet but were relieved when I explained to them that it was just
the fans in the laptop keeping the temperatures under control.
This is my 3rd gaming laptop in almost as many months. I am so very impressed with the MSI.
My previous two were an Asus ROG Strix GL702VM-DB71-HID1 and an Asus ROG G752VS-RB71-HID1.
Both had to be returned for unacceptable faults. I'm so glad I bought them from Amazon. They refunded me for both without question and the money was back in my account within a week of return.
The GL702VM overheated after about 2hrs of game play, which resulted in the CPU throttling back causing sudden FPS drops which was
very noticeable and annoying. Using CAM I was horrified to discover both GPU and CPU were running between 80-85 degrees under load!
The G752VS had trackpad issues and lost some of its features after resuming from sleep, again really annoying.
Neither of the Asus' could run 4K@60Hz in 4:4:4 Chroma on my TV either. I tried 5 different HDMI cables and none of them worked.
The best I could get out of the G752VS was 4K@60Hz in 4:2:0. So many emails were sent to Asus and Sony trying to pin down what was
going on. Asus, true to form just put their fingers in their ears and pretended that nothing was wrong. Whereas Sony were excellent and
couldn't understand why I wasn't able to display at these resolutions as my TV (KD-55X8509c) was capable of doing so. They did also
recommended various 3rd party websites where I could get the correct HDMI V2.0 cable from. They didn't try to sell me one of their own.
Its only now that I have the MSI that I realise that it was in fact the Asus' that were at fault. So many headaches could have been avoided
if I'd only bought the MSI in the first place.
I will never buy Asus again.

That's nothing special on laptops, most slim laptops tend to hover even on 90 C. Under 85 is fine - if the laptop is decently constructed.Kevin@GenTechPC and DukeCLR like this. -
HDMI 2.0 cable? I was under the impression there is no such thing. Other than moving from HDMI 1.0 to 1.4 which did require a cable change (years ago). HDMI 2.0 however was a hardware upgrade and, from I understood, does not need a new "2.0" cable. Unless I'm wrong, any regular HDMI (I think all are made for 1.4 now) will work just fine with HDMI 2.0. I'm only commenting on this so people don't get suckered into to paying more or buying another cable they don't need. This is assuming you have a good HDMI cable and not a cheap bugger from the dollar store or something.Shehary likes this.

Agree with @Fridgeboy
Quoted
Will I need a new HDMI cable?
NO! Well, probably not. Here is the exact quote from www.hdmi.org: "Version 2.0 of the HDMI Specification does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth." Emphasis mine. Here's another direct quote: "HDMI 2.0, which is backwards-compatible with earlier versions of the HDMI specifications..."

Sorry my mistake i should have written HDMI 2.0 cable.
This is the email Sony replied to me:

Thank you for contacting Sony support.
The cable that you need is the HDMI 2.0 cable.
If you want to buy it you can try at the closest authorized Sony repair center and check with them if they have it:

Or if you want to buy it online you can use this link:

Basically the cable needs to be capable of passing at least 18Gbps to be able to output 4K@60hz in 4:4:4 Chroma.
I bought this one and it works a treat.

Hey guys, anybody around here has the same issues I had while installing Windows 10 updates? I had this error: "There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4013429) - Error 0x80073701". Does anybody knows how to fix his? Thank you so much guys!

Try downloading them and installing them manually.
Install them in this order:

latest Adobe Flash update that goes along with this Cumulative update:

guys is it a good idea to use DDU for every new driver release?.

Every time. Always use DDU with any video driver and select clean installation with the driver being installed. It is also preference but GE experience is not worth it and you can deselect it when installing the driver.

yes, make sure you have no password/pin though because if you reboot into safe mode via DDU, the password / PIN won't work so you will be locked in safe mode forever so be careful -
Isn't DDU fixed?
Fixed: DDU getting stuck in safe mode Or is this something else? -

im not sure as I dont have a password and if it wasn't' really fixed, people might come here on the forum blaming me that I bricked their systems so I have to warn them to remove the password to be on the safe side...

UI updates: Seems like they added more options on the Audio menu and the Launchpad says OBS compatible. You can tweak stuff like Virtual Surround and Smart loudness as well as change the different levels for each preset profiles. They probably added more stuff.. maybe my ears are lying to me but my music seems a bit punchy with the same settings as I had from the previous.. I dunno.. maybe placebo xD

I did successfully update the audio drivers from here:

Hey guys, can anybody teach me how to use DDU?
@Phoenix Bro, when you said to make sure no password/pin, what is it you're referring to in here? How can I make sure that I have no password/pin? Thanks! -
Unpack DDU at a suitable place... Re-start your computer in safe mode. Run DDU. You can select different options. But choose only as new graphics card installation. Aka automatically shut down. Start your PC as normal, then run Nvidia driver.Donald@Paladin44 and HardCoreGamer4Life like this.

Still the same thing bro but with different error name. It now says "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4015438) - Error 0x80073701" instead of the previous "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4013429) - Error 0x80073701". Can you help me with this? Thanks bro! -
I won't use DDU anymore. The last 2 times I have tried it my 1070 was removed from my devices and it was a PITA getting it recognized again so I could install a driver. I just use Nvidia Experience and clean install since then and no problems.
