hey just checking can anyone confirm that the pro 425 kaby lake 256GB option is really just 1 device, not two in raid 0? want to leave room for a Sammy NVME.

Pro 425 has one 256GB and 2nd PCIe slot is empty, no raid 0.
If you are buying from UK....than it will be Raid 0 and you will get 2 128GB total 256GB with raid 0Last edited: Mar 23, 2017 -

So those with 1070s w/ 230W PSU has no choice swapping for a better PSU? I know it was mentioned earlier about how it wont make a difference but the 230W is pretty limiting for overclocking over 4.0GHz on top of GPU overclocking. Its like you only have enough power for 4.0GHz and GPU boost based OC. Anything above that would be limiting. I know those with the 1080s w/ 330W has a little bit more legroom in getting higher ranges.
Unless everyone is we're all still limited and still have to rely on hybrid power.Last edited: Mar 24, 2017JeanLegi likes this. -
There are different SKUs of GT73VR at different price. Maybe you should give MSI another try since GPU issues are very rare on MSIs.

Can I use the MSI True Color with my 6RF? -

Still the same problem bro. It now says "Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4015438) - Error 0x80073701"
This is really frustrating.

you can run it without the battery and i had no Performance issues when i try this. Oc the GPU a Little and the CPU runs with 4.2Ghz.
Only bad thing the gtx1070 was most of the time in the power Limit/target. -
If you saved that much, why not take advantage of the MSI warranty and have MSI fix it - replace the GPU / MB / etc as required.
It's free and you'd likely get it back in a couple of weeks... could be shorter, could be longer.
It sure beats getting less for more $$$

Anybody here had problems when they upgraded their EC Firmware using the 7RF/7RE unto their 6RF/6RE? I now need that much more aggressive cooling of .108 than my current .107. I need that additional 6th fan curve for the CPU.
-
I did upgrade the 7Rx EC firmware to 6Rx, everything works find,
except the following behavior which I'm not sure because of EC firmware or Dragon Center
In Dragon Center, Fan Speed set to Advanced Curve...
Behavior one
if I run cooler boost from laptop button, fans kick in very quickly, in Dragon Center Fan option change to Cooler Boost and when switch off cooler boost from laptop button, fan speed drop very quickly too but Fan Option change to Auto instead back to Advanced
Behavior Two
If I run cooler boost from Dragon Center, Fan doesn't kick in very quickly as compare to Behavior One and when change fan to Auto or Advanced, fan speed drop very very slowly as compare to Behavior One.
I'm not sure it's an issue because of using 7Rx EC firmware on 6Rx or it's a bug in Dragon Center.....beside this....everything else working like charm...HardCoreGamer4Life likes this. -

In both the behaviors you've described it's just not you and it's definitely not the EC Firmware. I have the .107 and it's also doing both the things you've mentioned. How did you update yours using the 7Rx EC Firmware? You just followed the instructions given by MSI? Thanks man! -
If both behaviors are same with 107 EC, than safely assume that it's normal thing...beside this never ran into any problem since using 108 EC firmware.
Yeah just follow the instruction "How to Update EC Firmware" given by MSIDukeCLR and HardCoreGamer4Life like this. -
I'm running 86.04.5B.00.8A and current driver is 378.78
Been over a week and playing overwatch every nigh for 4-5 hours. NO BLACKSCREEN!! I can either leave it in comfort mode and doesn't clock over 1645Mhz or Turbo @ 1780Mhz and not single issue. Temps @ 50CPU/50GPU 80FPS (Gaming on TV)
I just ordered a set of HyperX Cloud II headphones so I'm looking forward to seeing how the nahimic does. I see there was an update to 2+. I hope either version doesn't screw around with the 7.1 surround sound the headphones have. -

Is there anything that I should do after the update? I've seen that people whose notebooks' batteries are removable, they are to remove the battery for 10 secs. However since this particular notebook has a built-in battery which cannot be removed, do I need to do something like resetting the battery or something? Thanks! -
HardCoreGamer4Life Notebook Evangelist
Yes that can be done but I don't want to open it up just for the EC Firmware update. That's impractical and I don't want to do it if it's unnecessary. -
guys
- I have a sound like "pig"... "pig" whe I open or close a folder !! is that the sound driver problem??
_ I cant chamge the keboard color via LED wisard after update the dragoncenter on 7RF !!
- also the net truecolor is not working same as before!! any solution for that?
thank youLast edited: Mar 25, 2017DukeCLR likes this. -
thats the reason why i disconnect the battery when i change from the toshiba ssds to the samsung ssds. No need for a battery the psu offers enough power for a little oc of cpu and gpu and gaming.

Hi guys,
Quick question, why wont my gt73vr boot from usb?
I created a win 10 install on my usb drive using mediacreationtool.exe but it doesn't boot from it.
usb is selected as boot option 1 in the bios but it doesn't boot from it.
What am I doing wrong? -
I just unplug mine for about 10 seconds before booting up but I'm not sure you even need to do that. See point 5.DukeCLR likes this.

Not sure what the sound is. Try reinstalling the Steel Series Engine again to fix your keyboard. You can also try reinstalling true color.DukeCLR likes this.

Guys i know this must have been discussed a lot in the thread but just would like to have your opinion omce more on the thermals. So while gaming max temperatures are as below:
CPU: 78-81 C
GPU: 75-78 C
Are these good as CPU and GPU were repasted with IC Diamond? Or in any way i can reduce them further?

Whoa, those CPU temps are a little high.
What game are you playing? Not that it matters much, just wondering how processor bound the game is that you're heating up so much. Your GPU is about where Mass Effect takes mine. My CPU has yet to break the 50c while gaming.

Please note that these are the max values from HWMonitor but actual temps are always below these. I have set the plan to "comfort" and fans on "auto".

Playing Mass Effect Andromeda, my CPU, according to HWMonitor, will hit the mid 80's and my GPU at a constant 65 overclocked to 125/250. That's on Turbo with a custom fan profile that doesn't go above 2500rpm. However, like you, that's just a temporary max. Ingame stats from Riva/Afterburner show the CPU fairly steady at 75 or lower. I don't have your gen 7 CPU though.Maverick389 likes this.

@JeanLegi
You don't need to remove battery to reset it after updating the EC firmware, though the instruction given by MSI in EC firmware zip file said that if the battery is not removable, After updating, EC firmware will take care of resetting the battery but the manual says opposite....check following snap shot taken from GT73VR online manual
@Atma sorry mate, I disagree with you on this one but you were right....
Note: I never use above battery reset after any EC firmware update and only followed the instruction given by MSI in EC firmware zip package file and till today never had any problem....
It's your call, either you follow the instruction provided with EC firmware file or provided in manual....DukeCLR, HardCoreGamer4Life, JeanLegi and 1 other person like this. -
Mines on turbo with Liquid metal, I've also undervolted 120mv. My temps float near but never passing 50c. That's according to XTU and hwinfo.

Yeah I've used the EC reset hole before. The last time I just unplugged it for a little bit and didn't seem to have a problem. The last time I used the reset I noticed it also changed from raid in the bios to ACHI. Fortunately, I only had to change it back and everything worked.DukeCLR, HardCoreGamer4Life and Shehary like this.

Mine had IC Diamond on it and used to run cooler before I sent it in to MSI to replace the ram. I'll probably take it apart and repaste one day.DukeCLR and Badhand386 like this.
-
That's a myth...no solid proof, only user provided information...some says yes the actual temps are always lower some says opposite and there is no accurate way to check but only relying on thermal sensors for the real time temps.....DukeCLR likes this.

There could really be a 30 degree variance?

that day is very near, as weather is changing and with Kryo, I noticed rise in idle temps 3 to 4 degree in last couple of days, cold boot temps are still same so paste is still intact but idle temps are now around 40 where they were around 36....summer is upon us.....DukeCLR, Atma and Badhand386 like this.

My Killer Wifi in AC (5 ghz) and also in N (2.4 ghz), next to the router, it still has 4 signal bars and not the all 5. I dont understand why? I've also installed manually last drivers for Killer wifi from Phoenix thread. Is there some tweak or setting to get the 5 bars? With 4 bars and in AC mode I can get an average of 30 mbytes per second of transfer rate, which is very good, but two or three times when I could get the 5 bars, I've got 50 mbytes per second in transfer rate!! My router is an ASUS RT-AC58U.

Strangely, the Killer card has been completely flawless for me. Like, I haven't had a single hiccup or connection issue since I got the laptop.
The one I had in my GT72 was a different story.DukeCLR likes this. -
@Phoenix bro whats your take on this? I am talking about games like battlefield. Laptop is constantly pushing more than 100-120fps. However having both CPU and GPU around 74-76 C looks like a concern.

Overclocked? The CPU seems fine if playing a game such as Battlefield and clocked at 4.0GHz+ on all core... I get slightly below that when I'm playing a game while streaming and at 4.0GHz, but take away the streaming and all the background programs it'll go down a good notch.
As for GPU, GPU Boost 3.0 will push the card till it hits high temps/power limits then clock back down. In the past GPU Boost it will hit its designed boost then go a little bit more from there but with 3.0 it seems to be the new "auto oc" built in feature that nVidia cooked up, so even if you're at stock clocks you'll probaly be seeing it hit 1700-1900MHz+on the core unless you specifically downclock it and such.
For me personally 70s is fine 80s is getting there... as long as its not 90C then you're good since we're limited to laptop cooling.
