I started with the 105 that came with the laptop (I think). Then I went to 107, then I went to 108 and wasn't sure I liked it. Then back to 107. When I sent it in to MSI, they flashed 108 and I just left it there. It's good with an adjusted fan curve.
-
Anyone have an idea why this happens? I started getting it occasionally in Civ V a month or so ago. I think it was soon after I updated the chipset drivers that were dated March 2 on MSI's site. After I installed it, I saw it was the same version I had before.(why do they change the date for old drivers?!) Yesterday I got it in Mass Effect Andromeda. The screen goes black and if I alt/tab I can see the popup that says something about FX Renderer error. Event Viewer says:
Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
and
Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: MassEffectAndromeda.exe (3344) consumed 10063986688 bytes, vsserv.exe (1408) consumed 399728640 bytes, and Dragon Center.exe (5540) consumed 180375552 bytes.
When it happened with Civ V it was with different drivers and CPU clock than MEA. Civ 5 was running on Comfort and MEA on turbo. -

How do I know if the battery is done resetting? Would just counting to 15 do the trick? This should be done after flashing the EC Firmware to .108 and after shutting down, right? Thanks man!Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
After reset you can't start the Notebook. you must plug in the psu after this the Notebook will start normal.
remove psu.
push the reset button 10sec
plugin psu and start your Lady

Did this after flashing the .108 again and still the same result....no phantom 6th curve....

Hey man!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! Haven't read this as there were a lot of comments and I didn't saw this one. This could've saved me a lot of time and hassle cause this actually worked with the .108 EC Firmware now even though there is no 6th curve in the DGC. I don't know though through where could have this worked already because I already did all the things the people told me in this forum including the resetting of the battery. Again, thank you so much for this one man!
And thank you for everyone who helped me get up to this point. I don't know exactly how it worked but maybe it's because I did everything you guys told me to do. Thank you all! @Phoenix @Shehary @DukeCLR @Atma @Wazabi -

Where did you find the 6th fan curve again?

By downloading the Silent Option as mentioned by @JeanLegi in his post. Although the page I downloaded it from only has options for the Haswell/Broadwell and Sky Lake CPUs
EDIT: Now, what I don't know is how to use this Silent Option tool and how to make it overlap the Fan Speed found in the DGC. Will this immediately work? -
The changes in the tool will work immediately.
i use the silent Option tool with the dgc and i have no issues.
to be honest i must write that i remove the dgc a few weeks ago because i don't need this tool .Atma, HardCoreGamer4Life and hmscott like this. -

Already tried it with AIDA64 and it worked perfectly even with DGC in the background. Thanks man! -
MSI True colore crashed everytime I open it!! I reinstalled several times, Also changed the version but the problem still persisit on my 7RF.
Is there any solution for that?
Thank you -
Uninstall it and use one of the better calibrated profiles found online. I have 2 good ones if you're interested.

thank you for your reply, but what do u mean "calibrated profile" ?? how can I find it? is that a customized version of "msi true color"?Badhand386 likes this.
-
No, a calibrated profile is someone, out there in the vastness of the internet , who used a colorimeter to find a more precise and accurate representation of our monitor's color reproduction. AKA .icc profile.

@powerofviva I sent you a PM with all the info you need, including two ICC profiles. Just remember to turn off MSI's RGB in dragon center after uninstalling true color or it will mess with your display settings.

Hey everyone, every time I close the lid and open it up again the screen stays in black screen and I have to force shut down it. This happens when I both have the laptop on battery and the psu is disconnected and when it is plugged in. I have the "Do Nothing" option in the power option when Closing Lid. I also have the sleep and hibernation disabled. What's suppose to be causing this and what to do to rectify this? Thanks guys!

I've seen that before on some of the nVidia drivers. Have you try different versions just for test?
-
Hey!
Can anyone please help me to how to undervolt the CPU without messing up the OC in the Dragon Center ?
I have never undervolted with XTU and I don't want to mess up anything which needs a WIndows reinstall to fix and would be nice if it could be stored in the BIOS.Last edited: Mar 29, 2017 -
I just did this the other day. I had some trouble getting the OC to stick just using XTU so I ended up loading the OC profile with DGC then I launched XTU and was able to get a -.020 offset to work correctly with an OC of 4.1.

XTU shouldn't make you have to reinstall windows ever.

Had some cases with Clevo where undervolting in XTU made the CPU to drop multiplier to x8 under load ...
Is there a way to store the undervolting made in XTU in the BIOS ? -
same here mate but i have no idea what the reason is.
i download the last 3 Driver from nvidia before the March Driver to check if there was the same issue.
i'm not sure but this issue appears on my device with the march Driver.
@HardCoreGamer4Life try the 378.78 from Nvidia. it Looks like that this issue is related to the latest Driver (378.92) from nvidiaLast edited: Mar 29, 2017Atma likes this. -
Played a few minutes of Rise of The Tomb Raider and the game froze, green lines appeared on the screen and then the laptop rebooted.
I don't think it is a VGA problem, because earlier Fire Strike Stability Test finished with 98.2%.
Maybe -170mV undervolt was a bit too much for 4.1 Ghz. I try -120 mV and see if it freezes again with green vertical lines showing.Atma likes this. -

Yes the previous version I had which was 378.78 before the 378.92 if I can still remember it correctly, didn't have this issue.Atma likes this. -
I've been told by several people that the 6820hk can't do 4.2 on the msi.

Yeah, I had the 378.78 before and it didn't have this issue. Can I go back to a previous version safely using DDU? -
Clicking default should have fixed this, is XTU a part of CCC like it is in DC?

Probably just me, but to me it seems that despite being both GTX 1080 in the laptop and desktop cards, drivers are still handling them differently. At east this is what I get after testing Rise of the Tomb Raider.
I have an MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X card and I have compared it with the MSI GTX 1080 laptop card in Rise of the Tomb Raider (same settings).
378.78 driver:
dekstop: used memory: 7126 Mb
laptop: used memory: 6995 mb
376.30 driver:
laptop: used memory: 6966 Mb
So it seems to me that the game does not use more then 7000 Mb VRAM with the laptop, but it does with the desktop. This causes the game on the desktop card to be slightly more fluid and background loading causes much less stuttering on the desktop card.
Also, 378.78 driver should contain great DX12 optimizations, however in Rise of the Tomb Raider I don't see any mentionable difference on the laptop. In matter of fact the older driver from the MSI website feels a bit smoother.
Of course this does not mean that the laptop is bad, I just like to find bugs nobody else notices or cares about

Is this for the notebook 1080? Because there are different drivers for the desktop and notebook.Atma likes this. -
Only the inf file containing supported cards for the installer is different, the driver itself is the same. With Pascal laptop cards, you can install desktop or laptop driver too, both are fine and both have Pascal VGA cards in the inf file as supported cards.
"Laptop" driver was more for GTX 9XXM and older cards. -
I don't think there is really any difference. If you do a search here, it doesn't specify laptop or desktop, just the specific video card. If I download them manually from guru3d I usually get the desktop.

I have run 3DMark Fire Strike Ultra Stress test and Rise of the Tomb Raider has been open for a hour now and no freeze yet with vertical green lines like before.
Seems the undervolt for the CPU was really too high.
Another example where XTU stress test (15 min) passes but Rise of the Tomb Raider crashes in 2 min. (Had same experience when I was experimenting with undervolt on my Clevo)
(But to be honest, for a second there I panicked a little and thought for a second that the vga died on me in less then a day
)

Will I have to update it again if I create a backup after it's installed, if I move to my 960 evo?

You shouldn't. I made a usb recovery drive after updating and it already had it on it. Just make sure you check the box for system files. I think it is by default. You also could put in your 960 and then use something to clone your other drive to it. The best results on a new drive though may be a clean install.Last edited: Mar 29, 2017DukeCLR and dodgehemi0 like this.

Ok this is my 3rd gt73 last one had screen issues and the first one had the gpu issue I posted on here. Every one of those when I installed nvida driver the screen would shut off and not come back on till I forced a restart. Is this normal for msi?

Same here. Easier trick, close the lid. Wake it up and bam

i would say no, but i had the same issue.
Did you remove the old Driver first with DDU?
i used it the last time i renew the Driver and this issue wasn't appear again with the reinstallation of the latest Driver.
give it a try maybe it will work for you too.DukeCLR and dodgehemi0 like this.
