Good morining Shehary, Hi Phoenix, and rest of the good people in this amazing forum!!
I've just installed what seems to be the Windows 10 Creators RTM (build 15063) and I have last nvidia drivers: 378.92. Everything seems stable and fine for now with few extra points on 3dmark (maybe because of the game mode in this new version of windows 10 LOLOL)
But I have something strange and dont know if it is Windows 15063 problem or Nvidia drivers problem. When I close the lid and open again (plugged or unplugged) the image screen continues turned off and I have to power down the laptop. With the integrated intel graphics card this works perfectly well. Also with last MSI True Color, if I change the profile, I got a black screen, like the one that happens when I close the lid. Anyone experiencing this problem? Maybe its a bug in Windows 15063?
A bug that its certain from windows 15063 is the incompatibility between MSI Afterburner 4.3 + Rivatuner 6.6 (with OSD on) with programs like Driver Easy 5.5, Vegas 14 Pro, Pinnacle Studio 20. They use d3d9.dll and it crash on this dll because of MSI Afterburner + Rivatuner running. If I close them, all of this programs work just fine
Thanks!! -
Good Evening....
When I close the lid and open again (plugged or unplugged) the image screen continues turned off and I have to power down the laptop..... because of nvidia driver 378.92.....this has been discussed couple of days ago...solution is use last stable nvidia driver 378.77 drivers....

Many thanks Shehary. I was browsing some pages back but didnt see that
About the other incompatibilities with MSI Afterburner + Rivaturner, do u know anything about it? -
No idea bro, I'm not using after burner + riva tuner....so cannot say anything...wait for others to reply..
-
And regarding the new MSI True Color 2.0? Even with 378.77 drivers after installing it, I got a black screen and even with a reboot it remains that way. I have to switch to integrated graphics and uninstall and install again the Nvidia drivers. It seems that MSI True Color 2.0 mess up with Nvidia...
But the bug on closing the lid is fixed in 378.77. Just tested. -
Hi again Shehary,
even with 378.77 this only works when u choose the option to sleep when u close the lid. If u choose the option to "do nothing" when u close the lid, after closing it and open again, the keyboard get the lights on but the screen remais in black. So the issue is still on 378.77 drivers
I didnt test the option to put to sleep on 378.92. Maybe it is the same behavior. -
Just to confirm that with 378.92 drivers, close the lid, with the option to sleep, everything just work fine. The problem is with the option "do nothing" in power option when closing the lid. So its not a problem only with 378.92 drivers. 378.77 still has the same issue.

just tried closing the lid on my GT73VR Titan Pro 7RF for like 10 seconds then opened it again, screen works just fine. I am on the 378.92 drivers and yes I have my power option to do nothing when the lid is closed.
I am not on the MSI preinstalled OS though, clean install here -
@Shehary Hello man, thanks for the help.
You own this laptop right ?
Room temperature is 22 degrees.
As I said, opened it and everything looks clear ...
I dont want to send it back as I already did with the first piece received and it will take too much time.
When changing to ECO mode, (balanced power plan) and browsing internet, i have 45 degrees CPU and 50-53 degrees GPU, is it correct ?
However, when in High Performance power plan, it goes up to 65-70 degrees GPU
What does GPU core clock and GPU memory clock means in Dragon Center ?
In ECO (Balanced) I have 810Mhz for GPU memory Clock but in Sport (High performance) i Have 5000Mhz, is that normal according to my laptop ?
CPU clock and CPU vcore are N/ALast edited: Mar 31, 2017 -
I just tried a little light work on mine, the house is 73F which is about 23 C, My CPU went to 28C then settled at 25. If I put MY OC on then it would go the around 32c.
You said that it was refurbished, any idea if they had to remove the cooling system as part of that? -
@DukeCLR Hello, thanks for trying to help
This kind of information is confidential unfortunately ...
Here is when I'm at idle, plugged in. This is an old screenshot, all are same today except CPU clock and CPU Vcore which shows N/A. An idea why ?
Here is in GAMING: It was a lucky screenshot, note the temperature of GPU is most of the time between 87 and 90 degrees and CPU up to 80-85 degrees/
Isn't there is a problem with GPU Memmory clock ?
The person who would save my problem would save my life basically ...
However, when turning the laptop on this morning, the temp were 30 degrees for CPU and GPU, only when I plugged it in, it raises to 65 degrees GPU and stayed and between 40 and 50 for the CPU -
If i'm not mistaken high perfomance profile keeps the frequency of your CPU at max all time...try switching to Comfort or Balanced from windows power management settings first.
-
@Antho785 Something is wrong there, can you feel hot air coming from the vents?
-
in your case, when Idle, GPU memory / core clock running at full speed causing high temp...here is my laptop screen shot where GPU is idle...
note I have connected 2 external displays, so if I remove external display, GPU core clock drop to 130MHz when Idle....
You have to check which application running in background causing GPU running at full memory / core clock when laptop idle and GPU not in use (gaming)
@Badhand386 has this GPU higher clock issue when GPU not in use and he found out that If you enable DSR or GSYNC for windowed and full screen applications, it keeps your GPU clocks higher.
GPU core clock and memory clock means in Dragon Center means at what speed it is running when in use or idle....
Don't use Speed Fan tool, to monitor temps, use HWMonitor or HWINFO64, Speed Fan doesn't fully support this laptop....
CPU clock and CPU Vcore which shows N/A is Dragon center bug, to resolve it, install Intel Extreme Utility, run it once, do not change any setting, close the Intel Utility, restart laptop and issue will be fixed, do not uninstall Intel Utility....Last edited: Mar 31, 2017 -
For reference I'll post an image of data I got after a BF1 gaming session, On the left HWinfo shows the clocks and CPU temps, The graph shows the information over the entire gaming session, the white line down the middle shows the values for the second, you can also see on the right how quickly the temps drop. I don't have a 1080 but the temps shouldn't be that different.

Thanks for the feedback Phoenix. I also have a clean install of Windows 10. I always had this "kind" of problem when I install new ndivia drivers, so its not new. During the process when the old driver is removed and the new is installed, instead of the screen flashes, it goes black. I have to press the power button to put the PC to sleep and wake up it again to have image again. But during hours of playing battlefield 1, Hitman, and many many 3dmarks runs, Heaven Benchmark and Valley Benchmark, everything fine. Maybe some config in the BIOS that I did or that I need to change to fix this odd situation?
Thank!Atma likes this. -
What is your fan profile? Your GPU temp is too high!
Using stock MSI paste and auto fan in Rise of the Tomb Raider (99% GPU usage) max GPU temp for me was 82C after an hour with 3 GT73VR 7RF laptops!
90C is just too high unless you disable fans.
Your memory clock is fine, however your core clock is throttling due to high temp.
To me it seems that you have a defective laptop which needs a repaste.Atma likes this. -
I want to say the black screen during driver install started for me after I installed the Win10 Anniversary update. Same as you, I have to put it to sleep and wake up. Hasn't caused any real problems yet outside of the minor annoyance.
I recently reset to factory image and it went away, but now that I'm completely updated, it's back. -

Hello Mr. Tortoise
I am on the Creators Update and don't have that issue.
Do you have Windows 10 Home or Pro? Would you like me to hook you up with the upgrade? -
I'm also with Windows 10 Pro x64 Creators Edition 15063.11 (today we had the first patch 11) and with that issue of the black screen. But as AirTortoise said, its a issue that can be solve with putting the laptop do sleep (one click on power button) and then wake up it again. I could not solve with this workaround when I installed MSI True Color 2.0. Had the black screen and only solve it by uninstall and install again the nvidia drivers. And had first to change to iGPU to do that.
-
The difference is that me and AirTortoise, we both have GTX 1070. You have GTX 1080. Could this happen only to GTX 1070? Even with the last VBIOS update, that didnt solve it. I thought that the last BIOS 313 release was o fix that by reading the description.hmscott likes this.
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
no, the latest BIOS update is to fix failed BIOS flashing if one was on UEFI
Did you update to the latest VBIOS? or is that not available for the 1070?
I think Shehary knows betterhmscott likes this. -
I've actually got a 1080, so I don't think it's limited to just the 1070. Might have been related to all the stuff that gets installed with the Vive too, that's about when it re-appeared when I was updating everything.hmscott likes this.

Yes, I've update the VBIOS to the last version. Maybe some software incompatibility that you dont have installed

Well this depends on what game you're playing. I played TW3 without hair works (this actually pushes the GPU as the FPS goes up to 100's even higher depending on what's happening in the game) and it goes to 77-80 which depends on the ambient temperature. I live in a hot country so 78-80 is normal when I play while working in sites outside but when I'm inside a room with ACU, it's maximum 77 and 75 at average. CPU on the other hand stays mid 60's. I've also tried playing Ghost Recon Wildlands and GPU temp stays low 70's while CPU is hovering high 70's maximum 80 with Ultra Settings (this is already inside a room with ACU). The reason for the high temps on the CPU for the GRW is that it's a very poorly optimized game. But everything about the idle temps plugged or unplugged depending on the ambient temps are spot on.

Anybody know a laptop sleeve that will fit a GT73VR? Thanks!
-
The Sleeves are usually for the thin gaming 17.3" laptops:
https://us.msi.com/collections/pages/MSI-Adeona-Backpack.html
This looks like the thinnest "thick" 17.3" (review said 17.5" fit) sack, and it comes with some fun MSI Collection goodies too:
Backpack, Neck Pillow and Lucky Dragon Mini Block
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-9571013-Gaming-Backpack-Pillow/dp/B01M0D45WX
I can't tell if this is only for 15.6" or if 17.3" will fit too, but the dimensions suggest it's a fit:

Hey man! I already have that:
Backpack, Neck Pillow and Lucky Dragon Mini Block
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-9571013-Gaming-Backpack-Pillow/dp/B01M0D45WX
It was included when I ordered my 6RF from HIDevolution. What I would like is a sleeve that I can put my laptop so that it's protected from anything that can scratch it inside the backpack. I'm currently using the cloth that came with the laptop out of the box to cover it. I don't like it since it's only a cloth, can't do much and it's hard to hold it when I put it with the laptop inside the backpack since it's thin and would rip if I hold it incorrectly.hmscott likes this. -
I have never found a sleeve for thick 17.3" gaming laptops, they are always too thin. Even when some could stuff one in a sleeve by stretching it to it's limit, they complained the tight fit wore off the finish on their laptop.
I haven't seen a sleeve yet, and that's why I posted those two slim cases. The other one, not the one you got, looks even thinner.
For a while I used the thick white foam covering some of my laptops come in, but they broke down too quickly.
Now I find a backpack with a section that fits the laptop and then I don't put anything else in that compartment with the laptop, so the laptop isn't rubbing up against anything except the compartment material.HardCoreGamer4Life likes this. -

Thanks man! I'm looking for different laptop sleeves in amazon and found these:
https://www.amazon.com/Evecase-Diam...&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=laptop+sleeve+17&psc=1
It says it's compatible with the MSI GT70 series in it's info.
https://www.amazon.com/Water-resist...d=1491042457&sr=8-9&keywords=laptop+sleeve+17
this can even alienware 18 laptops.
https://www.amazon.com/Gaming-Noteb...=1491042397&sr=8-14&keywords=laptop+sleeve+18
I'm not sure about this one.
I'm not really sure though any of these if not all would fit the 6RF. -
Well, you could buy them all and try them, to see if any will fit. Amazon has a good return policy, and get Prime if you don't have it already for even easier returns.
So far they all seem to fit the thinner half of the large gaming laptops, some with long edge loading might work best so you could keep the "fat" end out, and fit what will fit inside the sleeve - at least protecting most of the laptop.
These new Pascal models are even thicker at the butt end than the Maxwell models, so I don't think we can rely on reviews done from that era.
Please let us know what you find

I really Really recommend ASUS Nomad v2 ( ) . that is fit on my 7RF, even I can put my cooling pad and HPcompact laptop + so many other things. the material is really good and its is much more better than the backpack that MSI sent to me ( https://www.amazon.com/MSI-9571013-Gaming-Backpack-Pillow/dp/B01M0D45WX/ref=sm_n_au_dka_SE_pr_con_0_1?sigts=1491060547152&sig=3fb0430714f85ec23e0dcabcc3c0d681e4de8c39&adId=B01M0D45WX&creativeASIN=B01M0D45WX&linkId=917e37ef9af31ac3dbfdcdde76bb8576&tag=technolf071-20&linkCode=w41&ref-refURL=http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-official-msi-gt73vr-owners-and-discussions-lounge.794968/page-549&slotNum=0&imprToken=BQ1vb764t.sxIrR0WiyXlQ).

I can 2nd this recommendation for the Nomad V2 (is there a V3 yet??), the best vendor bag construction I have seen including Alienware bags, and it's got a "form fitting" compartment for the laptop, so it's like a "sleeve".
Lots of room for other stuff, and a waist belt for when walking / biking at speed so the mass doesn't swing out such that you lose control.
Great bag, hard to find often, and so usually offered at a premium over list price.
Not small... not overly large either - the other popular bags are often a bit overboard in size.
Amazon has it for lower than the highest I have seen it ($240), but not as low as I bought it for long ago ($150), maybe keep an eye out on prices and wait for a new shipment from Asus - that's when stock is high and prices drop briefly. I'd expect another version out at some point too, as it's been almost 2 years as a V2, 3+ years since V1.
https://www.amazon.com/Republic-Gam...e=avp_only_reviews&sortBy=recent&pageNumber=1
It's kinda pricey, but I was able to sell mine for what I paid for it 18 months later.

Hey guys! I noticed since I got the laptop, every time I press the power botton (cold boot) the laptop doesn't turn on immediately. And instead, the light next to the power botton turns back off once then turns back on again. Is this normal?
-
That used to happen to me but I haven't noticed it lately. Maybe updating the bios and/or EC firmware fixed it, but I'm not sure.
-
@GenTechPC @Kevin@GenTechPC do you guys have measurements on how thick the GT73VR fans are?
Supposedly it uses the same CPU heatsink as the GT72xx series, so the thickness of the fans should theoretically be the same.DukeCLR likes this. -

I have the latest BIOS of 6RF (.10A) and I have the latest EC Firmware of the 7RF (.108), so I don't think that fixes anything. My main concern is, will this cause any major problem in the future? I hear a "click" sound every time it goes off then goes back on. If I were to compare it with a car, it has something to do with the "starter" of the laptop if it has one of those.
