Have you tested the hard drive separately to confirm it works?

Yes, the hard drive working if connected via USB external enclosure...

Note: tried 2 different hard drives, both spins, nothing shows in BIOS or windows....

No...I think only I reached this far...able to find 2 flex cables and tried them...though this discussed in MSI forum too but only dead end....

in BIOS there are 6 SATA controllers and only 2 used, 4 spares....I also looked into the hidden settings and all SATA ports enabled....

Seems strange, as if the port was not designed to be used.

may be but in that case hard disk shouldn't spin, right, if port not designed to be used then why it has power....?

or may be the first cable also fried something on the motherboard.... o_O

If the first cable had fried something, the laptop would (most likely) be dead.

    Good to know that...

So far I tried 3 cables...

First Cable of Samsung Laptop series...sit and fit but laptop refused to boot

2nd Cable I think Dell laptop series...sit and fit but it fried itself and also hard disk

3rd Cable I think Sony Laptop series...sit and fit, hard disk spins but noting in BIOS

running out of cables....there are not many 12 pins Flex cables...I think there is no more cable left to try.... :(

Are you using any sata m.2? If you are, it's reasonable to assume it's a shared port and using m.2 automatically disables the 2.5.

Seeing I'm pretty new to PC laptops (Had a mac) - with my GT73VR which comes with a 7700hq processor - is there any reason for me to have Intel Extreme Tuning Utility installed seeing it can't be overclocked with it. It seems like it would be a pointless application to keep loaded up.

7700HQ is locked and cannot be overclocked....though you may need Intel Extreme utility, it fixes the issue where in Dragon Center CPU clocks shows NA..

Does anyone know if those 1440p 120hz screens that Alienware uses will fit the GT73VR? I would love a higher resolution screen on my laptop but don't want 4K 60hz.

So I installed the new nvidia drive 381.65 with clean install and using DDU before installing it. It fixed the screen not coming back every time I close the lid then open it back up again but it introduced another problem. I don't know what's causing this and if anybody out there is experiencing this same thing (don't mind the static it was taken using my phone). Everything are blurry, the texts and even the mouse pointer, when I close and open up the lid back again. Anybody out there have the same kind of issues that I have with the current driver? And also does anybody know how to fix this? 20170409_084343.jpg 20170409_084350.jpg

Looks like dead gpu to me or a loose connection of GPU / panel cable.

    That sounds like cancer, seriously.

Other than 7820HK you have the Xeon on the WT73VR, paired with a Quadro P5000 16GB GDDR5. Thing retails for around 4700USD.

This only happens when I close the lid then open it up back again, and after I restart it it goes back to normal again. This is with the current nvidia driver 381.65. I had a different problem with the previous driver, 378.92, which was when I close the lid the open it up again, the screen stays black and I have to force restart it (which in this case worse than the current problem I have right now). It doesn't seem to be a dead gpu or a loose connection cause it's perfectly fine when it's just fresh off a cold boot or even rebooting it. It just happens, as I've said earlier, when I close the lid then open it up again.

The only time I got anythinglike this was when the resolution changed, it was after a DGC update and it set %125 to my resolution, everything was bury.

Is 84c GPU a normal temp for gaming under load? My system seems to be ramping the fans up and down to keep the temp at that setting when I play BF1 and PUBG.

I'm unfamilar with PUBG, I have brought back setting for performance reasons but nothing gets above 80 on my laptop during a BF1 session, but I have a 1070 and RTTS capping the fps at 120.

Yes I clean installed with DDU. I haven't tried booting with integrated Intel GPU once ever since I got the laptop though since I don't actually need it (the laptop is plugged every time I use it so booting with iGPU to save battery is unnecessary). Everything is working perfectly fine, It's just the opening and closing of lid that have this kind of effect. Maybe I'll try with reverting the driver back to 378.78 (the last stable driver I had) and see what'll happen.

EDIT: So I've just downloaded the latest version of DDU (17.0.6.1) whereas I had the previous 17.0.5.5 earlier. I used the latest DDU and cleaned installed the 381.65 with PhysX now checked and installed and boom no more black screen and blurry screen after closing and opening the lid! :D

I've checked with DGC when this happend and the resolution is still at 100% so that's not what's causing this.

In many countries. Including the UK where I got it. Much cheaper than the 7820HK version and only a tiny performance difference.

I'm just basing it on cost and the fact I probably wouldn't bother overclocking my laptop. But clearly it has an improved performance, but would I notice it on a 1080p 120hz laptop with a gtx 1080 that I'm using for solely gaming, less likely.

The additional cost for me would have been £300. Just not worth it personally.

I think we can say that Nvidia driver updates on this can be temperamental! Though after upgrading creators update I get (touch wood) no issues.

Yes you would actually notice the difference on a 1080p 120hz laptop specially since you have the gtx 1080. It was mentioned somewhere in this thread when somebody asked what the people in the gt73vr community thought of buying one which has a 7700hq instead of a 7820hk and a lot commented that even a gtx 1070 would feel castrated with the 7700hq much more the gtx 1080 (this means it'll bottleneck the 1080 on some games if I'm not mistaken). When you play really demanding games which I currently play now like The Witcher 3, Ghost Recon Wildlands, GTA V, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Battlefield 1 that really eats up your CPU, you'll experience lesser fps. I know that some of these games would not even get to 120 fps but even with an overclocked 6820hk to 4.1 Ghz that I have only hits an average of 60-65 fps (which is the least fps you should have to enjoy these games) with ultra settings on Ghost Recon Wildlands. I know that you can lower the settings to hit these fps but that would defeat the purpose of you buying a gtx 1080 in the first place. When I bought my 6RF, I was actually leaning on the 7RF more but like you I chose the 6RF since a $400 (£324) upgrade for the 7RF was not worth it for me since the 6RF is already enough to hit my desired fps to the games that I want to play on ULTRA settings. I don't know what kind of games you play but I'm sure you would want your gaming laptop to be able to play almost every game out there on ultra settings since you bought one that has a gtx 1080.

So far I'm at ultra on battlefield one always at locked at 120fps Witcher 3 about 75fps average. Syndicate 78 average. The division 105 in DX12 mode. About the only game I've struggled with like I do on my GTX 1080 desktop PC i7 4870 at 4.8 is the well known badly optimized ghost recon.

So so far not one game hasn't run in ultimate settings on the 7700 and got average of well over 60fps bar ghost recon which has known performance issue on a range of machines right now.

I'm not knocking anyone who has the better CPU version, just that for me the additional cost just wasn't worth it when it's the GPU that will be out of date sooner then the CPU.

Yes the ghost recon is a badly optimized game. Glad you could hit those fps man, really not bad. Hope you won't need the extra power that an Overclockable CPU gives on upcoming games though. Happy gaming bud!

    Hi guys,

I have already contacted you cuz i had a strange issue. When i boot my lappy, just after i press the power button, it boot up and immediatly restart and then boot normaly. I've gone to the bios, load default setting and it works fine but few days ago the issue came back.
I've noticed in the OC section that the core ratio is 40, i re use the default setting (core ratio 36) and save and exit but 2 or 3 reboot later the core ratio remains at 40.

    Any idea?
