Thanks for the clarification. It makes sense, because I had always closed the lid on my machine, but I also recently changed drivers. I will try the latest ones to see if they still cause it.DukeCLR likes this.

Hello anybody with gt73vr 7rf having issues after windows 10 creators update? I did the update yesterday and now my notebook wont load into windows, it just get stuck at a black screen after msi logo shows up. If i force shutdown it does boot up afterwards but everytime i shutdown my laptop and power it on again it just gets stuck. Could this be a bios/vbios or ec firmware issue or is it another screw up from microsoft?
-
If MSI logo shows, means BIOS is okey if display is working means vBIOS is okey, if Fans and Battery Charging working means EC Firmware okey...what left is windows 10, which after update is definitely not okey...
Try to reset the laptop to factory setting..is one option
wait for other members input on the issue for more better solutions.

Ty for a quick reply. Did some digging in official msi forums and it looks like it has nothing to do with windows its the damn msi true color. I updated it yesterday right after windows creators update. Seems like if its on any other profile except gamer the notebook gets stuck at a black screen. I had it on srgb changed it to gamer power off my notebook and in a couple of minutes after powering up it booted without any issues if anybode else runs into this try it out.DukeCLR likes this.

Are there any newer Bluetooth drivers out other than what are mentioned on the MSI website. My Bluetooth mouse keeps losing connection.

how do you expect anyone to help you when you don't have your system specs in your sig and didn't even mention it in your post?
do you have the Killer AC1535 or Intel 8265 Wireless card in your laptop?
Anyway, the latest drivers are in this thread:

To all those who have updated windows 10 to creator edition...
you will lose minimum 20GB of space after updating to creator edition
a folder name "windows.old" will be created on windows drive after update...check it properties to know the exact disk space this folder has on drive
to get that space back
Search (Ask Cortana) > Type Disk Cleanup > Open Disk Cleanup >Select Windows Drive > Click Ok > click Clean up system files on newly opened window > wait for the process to be finished > when done select all check boxes or (selected files which you want to remove) > Click OK to start the cleanup > Process will take 10 to 15 or 20 mins to finish and you will have 20GB to 30GB space back...
Note: Above process will get you space back but you will lose windows restore points...

Is there any reason to use this CE revision? I suppose at some point I'll be forced to but I would like to hold off.
-
Windows 10 CE Features
eventually you have to update or future updates will no longer be available. -
A new Emoji keyboard?!! I can't wait to get home and upgrade, lol.
Seriously, have you had good luck with it @Shehary and would I need to finally update my BIOS and EC? -
I updated today and so far laptop running good, no issue at all, no black screens, no errors, though I have updated all drivers before I updated to CE....
nvidia lastest, killer wireless latest, nahimic latest from MSI support page, Dragon Center latest, MSI major update installed thrice but never got finished or confirmation message so no idea what it was...
I m also thinking to going back to .107, I notice some weird behavior in .108 where CPU fan suddenly kicks in (Advance Fan Setting) even temps below 50 and where it shouldn't and increase in fan speed doesn't help to bring the temp down...may be I m wrong but I think EC firmware also has something to do with CPU load, sometime I notice that temp below 45 but CPU load increase and Fan suddenly kicks in....I set fan curve where temp at 50, fan RMP should be lower 2200 but sometime even temp lower thn 50 and Fan RPM cross 2200 goes to 2400 just because CPU is under load...but at this point I'm not very much sure.....either it's EC firmware or Dragon Center or what causing this behavior...
so if you are good with your laptop current BIOS / EC firmware....do no update....DukeCLR likes this. -

Hi guys, will probably be buying the GT73VR gtx1080 edition (although I'm still looking at the alienware 17 because of the QHD screen.. Not sure still)
Anyway the Sabre audio dac is supposed to be pretty good right? Will I be able to run 7.1 surround with the 3.5mm jack (hyper cloud revolver) ? Or should I stick with my astro A50 gen 3 that I still have. Honestly I've searched for hours now but still have no idea if it's just stereo or simulated 7.1 which I would prefer to be honest. I like directional positioning awareness in games. Cheers -

Hello everyone,
my first post is about....a problem, of course. The creators update of windows 10 broke my MSI Dragon Center software...
After the update the program was removed and if i try to install it, using the latest version on MSI support page, it does nothing. I mean, really nothing, after double clicking setup nothing happens.
Someone of you had the same problem? Any advice? I need dragon center to control the fans speed.

Ok, after many tried i solved the problem, i write here because maybe could help someone else. The program were crashing with a non specified d3d9.dll error. After trying to repair directx, uninstall and reinstall driver with no success, I found the problem. MSI afterburner + RTSS running in background. After closing them the error vanished....
maybe they're not compatible with CE yetDukeCLR likes this. -
So I rolled back the creators update and it broke my nahmic install. I think the registry is messed up because I can't uninstall it and I can't update to a different version because I get errors.
What is a good registry cleaner I could try?DukeCLR likes this. -

CCleaner is the safest one. Others have a lot of false positives and can literally destroy your OS more than what it has become now -

It can happen, incompatible driver + apps = boom.
Watch for updates from MSI AB and RTSS package - always get the package of both as they are tested as paired.
Available from MSI in the AB section, or eventually in the per laptop model update section:
https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner
Also, I hope you have uninstalled MSI Dragon Gaming Center, as it conflicts with AB, XTU, and possibly RTSS. -

Thanks man! However, why is it that they've seem to have problems with their update? When you said you had the clean installation of Windows, it was when you got the laptop from HIDevolution right? Because I didn't have the clean installation of Windows when I got it from HIDevolution and I don't seem to have the problems the other people are experiencing. Or was it when you clean installed the new Windows 10 update the "clean installation" you've mentioned in your previous post? Again, thanks for helping me with that update bro! I had problems with that Cummulative Update Error but after you hooked me up with that new Windows 10 update, no more errors and the system ran just fine with no black screen and any other problems whatsoever.

Man, am I glad I happened across your post on this! I was just about to open an RMA tomorrow with MSI as I was sure that something was wrong with the cable to the display. Every time I closed the lid I'd get the blurry display, but wouldn't on an external monitor.

Which are safe oveclock values for core and memory of a 1070? Just to have a stable situation, not so pushing and without touching the voltages.

No I was using RTSS 6, but now I've installed 7 beta and it seems to work even with the Creators update

Could be smart checking that you have latest software updates when you push for completely new Windoze Build

Hi there,
I am looking for either a gaming PC or a gaming laptop. I read some articles about the MSI GT73VR and also watched some reviews on YouTube. My current setup is outdated and lots of games don't run fullspeed with high settings so it's time for something new. I live in Germany and I feel like the shops here in Germany always try to sell their own products instead of brands like msi. I called an online shop to ask some questions about the gt73vr and the guy on the telephone told me that you can't compare the 1080 in the notebook to the desktop version and that there are huge performance differences. But according to the reviews there shouldn't be that much of a difference in performance. That's why I want to ask you guys.
I'm interested in the gt73vr with the 120hz screen and 32 gigs of ram. But then I saw the 83vr with two 1080s and I wonder if that will be much better than a single gpu because the games I want to play don't even support sli as far as I know. I also don't need an optical drive and tbh I prefer the keyboard of the 17" model over the 18" model.
But before I buy that I have some questions and I hope you guys can answer them for me
1. Is "you could get a way better desktop pc for that price" a legit argument? Because if I configure a desktop with the same internal stuff such as a gtx1080, the CPU and the ram it's almost the same price as a desktop. And with a desktop you also need to buy a monitor.
2. Will there be an updated version of the gt73vr in the near future? Does the current model have any problems?
3. I'm looking for something to replace my desktop. My desktop is almost 5 years old and I want to use the notebook also for the next 5 years without having to worry if new games will run on it. I know that games that come out in 2 years or so won't run with max settings but it would be nice if it would with medium settings
4. Would you guys recommend the gt73vr?Atma likes this. -
I think the GT73VR is a great laptop. Some of us have had minor quality issues, such as the bezel loose in small areas, but it runs great and has great cooling. My 6RE with the GTX 1070 cost $2280. I have been casually putting together a list for a desktop and it will run about $2585, including the monitor. You could probably reduce that price several hundred dollars going with different components, plus the fact it is easier to upgrade than my laptop. Can you not just upgrade a few things in your desktop and come out cheaper?GenTechPC likes this.

@Shehary just wanted to say thanks for all your pics and info on the thermal pads for this laptop. I think I'm going to repaste and replace pads within the next week so I searched out all your posts on the subject this morning and bookmarked them. They are very helpful.
These are the ones I found in case anyone else needs the info:

1- I don't know about you, but even though I am sitting on a desk most of the time, the idea of being able to easily take your laptop with you wherever you want is awesome. I've owned a high end desktop last year and hated the clutter and lots of cables
2- No and No
3- The GTX 1080 along with the GSYNC screen in this laptop if you opt for the FHD screen is the best choice now if you want future proofing. Also, you can upgrade the GPU later provided nVIDIA doesn't change the design
4- you are asking this question in the wrong place, this is the GT73VR owner's lounge, obviously everyone will tell you to get it
I know you live in Germany but I highly recommend you to get this laptop from a reputed reseller like HIDevolution, reason being, they will do a better job with the thermal paste than the stock paste and stress test it with all the available tools so you are sure to receive a laptop that works great out of the box. The MSI laptops come with a 1 year free global international warranty which covers shipping costs both ways should anything go wrong with your laptop.
In addition, MSI's support is not the greatest so if you ever do run into an issue, you could always contact HIDevolution as they have their own tech support and if the issue requires escalation, they have their contacts with the seniors at MSI to get you faster and better response.
