where did you get the .317 BIOS? I have .313 as the latest for my MSI GT73VR 7RF Titan Pro or do you have a different model? -
Yes firmware provided on the website msi 313. I checked it from device manager. It seems this firmware provided from microsoft side . I have GT73VR 7RF-425 .
Maybe you can try to check for updates from device manager in the firmware section
Are there any updates as well -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
wow!! I thought you were kidding at first!! I never thought you could update the BIOS through device manager! I checked for updates on the firmware, took a while, then it installed .317!! thanks a lot manhmscott, Atma, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -

don't worry too much about that. Since you upgraded your firmware. I recommend you shutdown your laptop, remove the power cable for 30 seconds, then turn it back on, enter BIOS, and load setup default, save and exit, then re enter BIOS, now setup everything like you had it beforehmscott likes this. -
Do i need to reset cmos too? Is this firmware from msi or not and Which one is better ?

I'm about to start the clean install using the bloat free version that you recommended. I just wanted to know a few things first.
How much space do you recommend that I create for the OS? I'm planning to just install the OS without disconnecting the second HDD and making 2 partitions on the first drive.
And do I just run shutup10 after the OS installation? I did notice that there were over lapping information across the links you gave me that were covered by shutup10.
Cheers

You can delete all drive 0, and recreate it for system install
Memorize drive capacity for easy

For fresh install
You must delete the drive That installed windows
And create partitions for windows
I can not explain in detail. Because I do not really master the English language

Once all the partitions on the same drive Disk 0 for example are deleted it's all gone, your OS drive will be completely clean. When you click next to start Windows installation on Disk 0 will be the clean installation.DukeCLR and HardCoreGamer4Life like this.

Also the VR audio has been removed from my dragon center! I donno, maybe i have to rteinstalll that!DukeCLR likes this. -
Don't forget to use MSI BurnRecovery to backup your original MSI OS recovery image, you'll need a 32GB USB 3.0 flash drive to do this. It's worth having in case you need a sanity check install to check hardware, to send in for RMA, or for when you sell the laptop.
If you don't back it up before blowing away the OS / drive partitions you'll not be able to get it back without RMA or $$ to order replacement from MSI - different regions have different remedies - you might need to send in your whole laptop to get MSI to restore the original OS / recovery partition.
I haven't seen a download for MSI BurnRecovery for a long time, so don't delete / uninstall it from your system, it's not recoverable. If you find a download for a Windows 10 version, please let us know.Spartan@HIDevolution and DukeCLR like this. -

yup its all there. I had a bit of trouble with locating my SSDs though in my case. I just had to load the RAID drivers since 2 of my SSDs were in RAID.
Now what I didn't do is make a second partition on my OS drive. I checked my other drives though and it seems that the there were no boot files of my Data drive. Would that be alright? -

How to delete all the partitions on the same drive Disk though? Like if I want to clean install my OS in my C: drive, do I just go to the Boot menu by pressing F11 during startup and go to the USB drive which has the Windows installation and just install it in my C: drive? Will that automatically delete everything in my C: drive? -
HardCoreGamer4Life Notebook Evangelist
Forget my reply before this, you already answered me in your post here. Will going to the "drive options" give you the choice to delete all partition on disk 0 as seen here?
EDIT: I saw @Phoenix Youtube video and there's a delete option for the partitions there. Should I just delete every partition there is in the Disk 0? Also he mentioned that he removed his Second Drive.Last edited: May 3, 2017 -
So, my headphone jack broke when unplugging my headphones today. I have the piece that broke off but even when I stick it back in the jack doesn't work. It must have cracked when I tripped over my headphone cord last week and ripped the plug out as I fell. Today was probably just the day it worked itself loose.
Is this sort of thing covered by the MSI accidental damage warranty?
And if I have to send it back do I need to remove my upgraded RAM and SSDs before shipping it to them? -
Hmm. I've done the clean install. And now I'm doing some benchmark through 3Dmark. I seem to be getting lower scores compared to the out of the box settings and drivers.
Fire strike was from 18285 down to 17817 and mark11 had a decrease of about 300-400.
I've upddated the BIOS to 313 and the vbios to 86.4.56.0.3c. My graphics driver is 381.89.
Ive set the power management to max. I've only OCed through Dragon centre which all the sliders are maxed out. the temps are not bad but the scores are just a bit lower.
When I did the clean install though. I didnt partition my raid set up into 2 but I dont see any boot files of my HDD though. I don't know if that would affect the score. -
You'd need to contact MSI support to be sure what they will and will not cover, every MSI region has their own rules or interpretation of what is supported under warranty.
I always recommend taking out anything not needed for the RMA, put back the original RAM / Storage and restore the OS to the out of the box recovery image. I suggest not shipping the PSU or cable's too. When you get the laptop back from RMA you can test the laptop for a while with the stock parts and OS install to test the repair, before you restore your RAM / storage and OS / data restore.
It sucks, that's for sure. If you haven't had the laptop long, you might want to "save up" problems to get fixed all at once by MSI Accidental Coverage, it seems like a minor cost issue.
Does your model come with the High-Def DAC headphone jack too? You might start using that - get a really long cable and tie it off against the desk this time so if you trip it pulls against the desk instead of the laptop
Or, get a wireless solution, with a USB dongle, or even a USB headset.
For now I'd disable that port, just in case it's feeding power to it and it's got a short.
You can register with MSI if you haven't already and file a ticket to ask about the repair cost, and attach a zip file with images to show the damage.

Not sure if anyone ever answered you, but the extension cable I used for the OLD MSI 1761 whitebook back in 2012 that I bought from Amazon, still works on the GT72VR monitors. Should work on the GT73 since it's just a cable, after all.Atma likes this. -

Correct just delete all partitions on disk 0 and make sure disk 0 is the OS drive because sometimes disk 1 is the OS drive.
Make sure don't touch any other drives because if you accidentally delete any partitions on other drives then you will lost everything.
Yes MSI covers first year accidental damage if you registered your warranty with first 30 days of purchase.
No you do not need to remove anything from the laptop before send it in, they will know your laptop has been customized and won't touch it.Donald@Paladin44, Atma, hmscott and 1 other person like this. -

I don't have a URL I bought the cable five years ago.
It's a regular old 18 aug cable. It says 18aug 300v on the cable. idk what the 300v comes from.
I'm sure you can try this one : https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com...qid=1493881747&sr=8-7&keywords=extension+cord
actually I found what I bought.

Thanks man! Before doing anything, what are the things that I should make a backup of in Drive C:? I have no files in there other than the OS and the original files that came with it out of the box like the different drivers and utilities from MSI. And also, can I use Macrium Reflect to make a backup without including Windows 10 in Drive C:? If not, what software can I use to make a backup of everything in Drive C: excluding the folders with the OS in it? -
If you read the clean installlation instructions, you just have to press shift+f10 on the partitions page. Then do the prompts to select the disk and clean it.Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

If you don't have any important personal datas then don't worry about it. You can always download utilities from MSI with latest version.
If you want a complete clean installation of OS I suggest don't bother with backup.Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution and HardCoreGamer4Life like this. -

All these new bios updates for the kabylake series gt73's but nothing for the skylake... does this mean skylakes are fine? or does that mean msi has forgotten all about us.... not sure which is easier to believe

are you having any problems that a BIOS might fix?
-
After updating the drivers, bios, and vbios.
-
There yes, maybe one of them is the culprit. Jump on new firmware can sometimes give you a worse experience. Don't think new graphics driver will push your scores so far below. I forgot to ask... You benched this worse scores before or after the new clean Windoze install? To rule out the Windoze Crematory Edition as a culprit.
-
I might try playing with the graphocs driver for a bit and see if there would be a difference. I did a clean install and installed all the drivers, bios and vbios.
