I am not getting any updates anymore because I get this automatic update from samsung magician about a week ago
-
this is the latest Version.
i have this fw since i bought my both ladies. -
Hey guys, is there any way to manually adjust fan speed, besides that "full throttle" button? It's too loud when full speed and I feel that in auto mode it doesn't give enough speed to keep the temp low during gaming. I tried MSI Afterburner and that option is disabled there. Any other way?
edit: just went back 2 pages and saw MSI dragon center screenshot with fan speed control option. where can I get it? I didn't find it in the support page downloads. -
What laptop do you have?
Just open the dragon center > system tuner > choose either auto, basic adjustment, cooler boost or advanced.
In advanced you can adjust the profile on what temp ranges to run what speed of the fan. I'd be surprised if you needed anything over either an auto config or a preferred profile in advanced unless you where doing benchmarking where you want things to be as cool as possible. -
A bit late, but still... Here's the XoticPC copper cooling thingys. One of them fell off and was rattling around inside. Luckly it stuck without getting into the fans. I seriously doubt they do any good in terms of heat managment.

those are just a gimmick, think of it, if the heat goes on to those copper cooling heatsinks, fine.....but then there is nothing cooling those copper cooling heatsinks so the heat doesn't dissipate anywhere

Did it not come with your laptop?
And out of curiosity. Did you purchase it from newegg? That's the only reference i can see to 003.
So yes indeed @ Coruscator was correct with that link.
Alternately, you can always get it from the MSI website.Donald@Paladin44, Spartan@HIDevolution and DukeCLR like this. -
I asked for clean Win10 install, so there was nothing preinstalled and I didn't check the CD that came with it as I was in a rush.
I purchased it from XoticPC.
Just installed dragon center and customized the fan speed according to the temp rise. What a relief. Thanks.Donald@Paladin44, Fire_Child22 and phillip81 like this. -
Well, you can see ppl putting these things on memory chips and they say it helps somehow.

Hey guys, is there a thread or post about GT73VR BIOS options guide/explanation? I don't know many of those options and have some doubts...
I didn't find using the search here, too many posts... -
Ok so I've repasted my CPU twice with Noctua NT-H1 and after repasting I am initially getting great temps. But it seems to deteriorate really quickly and i'm getting +10c temps over the initial repaste temps after a few days.
Am I doing something wrong here? -
What's the difference between GT73VR and the GT73EVR?

You could use a moded cooler like U3 and force a lot more air into the chassis to dissipate the heat. But 2 or 3 of those small copper heatsink doesn't do much here. Vasted money!!

I am not saying there's not enough cooling. As I now manually adjusted fan speed through the dragon center, it doesnt get more than 71 degrees celcium on GPU under heavy gaming.DukeCLR and Donald@Paladin44 like this.

And I talking about those small copper heatsink.. They do not do much in there for better cooling. Still, vasted money if you have paid extra for this so called feature!!

There were a number of people that wanted the robust cooling that the GT73VR has over the GT72VR with a GTX 1060 - previously a GTX 1070 was the lowest power GPU in the GT73VR.
It looks like there are 2 models of the GT73EVR, a 1060 and a 1070, with an HM175 motherboard chipset, there is only provision for 1x M.2 SSD and 1x 2.5" SATA drive.
So that's bad, MSI is bringing the GT72VR sickness - stripped features - to the GT73VR. I was hoping MSI would work it the other way around and bring back the CM238 motherboard chipset, MUX, 3+ M.2 slots, etc from last generations GT72... sigh.
IDK if the GT73EVR has the MUX...

For now I'd stay away from the EVR, why not just get the GT72VR with "stripped" features and expansion and save some $$$$?
It'll take a more indepth comparison to see if the GT73EVR with "stripped" features and expansion is a better GT72VR than a GT72VR

Hello friends! this is my first time posting here, i've been the proud owner of the GT73VR 6RE and like a lot of people that post here i have a problem with this beast, i've been playing a lot of games on it with some crashes here and there, nothing worrying, but lately i've been playing a lot of CS:GO and i keep on getting some wierd crashes that it seems i can never fix...well i'll let you watch , i'll be waiting for ur expert comments, thank you in advance

The only time I ever get those is when i have overclocked too much. Do you have any OC in?
hmscott likes this. -
Also, have you undervolted your CPU? I've been experimenting with XTU lately, and get a hard lock reset when I've pushed the offset too far.
-
Never had a single crash since the day I bought it. Also playing games a lot. But I ordered it with clean Win10 install.

That's what is behaves like to me as well. I was going to ask if the CPU and/or GPU are overclocked. If not, one or both might be overheating. Just looking at the surface it is sitting while gaming causes some concerns. It can't breathe correctly sitting flat on its rubber feet on top of a table cloth.
@manblue - if that is where you normally use it, put it on a hard surface or, even better, elevate it or put it on a cooling pad so it can breathe better. That might help. What are your CPU and GPU temperatures? -
When I set the keyboard light to red green blue. At the bottom of the letter 'P' there are 2 lights. But on the left side of the light is visible in white. Is gt73vr so? In section 'P' when turning red , green blue ,letter 'p' looks a bit white

Are you on creators update? i noticed this behaviour occur to me on games such as csgo and heroes of the storm among other games. There most likely isnt a fix until msi releases something. Further, do you have the 6820hk version? if so then i can completely relate to youDukeCLR likes this. -
my CPU is on X40 when i'm playing and i used DC and XTU, same thing
it's in default settings.
i have the same problem while sitting on a glass surface but i'll try to have it elevated a bit more, for the temps GPU does not go over 77 and the CPU when playing CSGO can get to around 80
yes it was like this after the creator's update, i had it freezing with sound loop for 20 sec in the anniversary update but now it's crashes the whole laptopnightingale and DukeCLR like this. -

Ah, in that case im afraid we are in the exact same boat. Sadly there is no further information available and we SOL. I however managed to avoid this crashing by setting the dgc and all settings to comfort. It appears that in my case this problem is overclock related as in the games such as heroes of the storm and CSGO the crash gets triggered if i have the laptop set in either turbo or sport.
I imagine this is as god a shot as any for you to try and have you get through in the meantime until microsoft or MSI comes out with an official response to this issue. We are not alone thankfully, although this appears to be a "uncommon" issue -
@manblue
Sounds like Creators update issues again, whata PITA.
I prop up the back of mine, when I'm on the road I"m use an Altoids can and om my desk at home a hockey puck, it provides a better angle for typing and helps keep the area clear for airflow. Also be sure your wires aren't clogging up the area.

i'll try to do that after work, and yeah its uncommon but hopefully we'll got some answers soon
i'll try to do that and see if the temps are changing, i've had it crash with coolerboost activated since startup so... but we'll see
UPDATE : i contacted MSI on the issue and they replied with a bunch of troubleshooting steps that i need to do to be sure. Here is the pdf https://account-cn.msi.com/ocss/uploads/replies/reply1_235328_20170509112921.pdfnightingale, Atma and DukeCLR like this. -

I have a doubt about putting the notebook on a cooling pad. The slope may cause problem in the spinning of the fans? I say this because my previous notebook was an Asus ROG and I've kept it on a pad for 3 years and after a while the cpu fan started to crackle a bit. Maybe the problem was not related but still...my doubt remains. And now that I have my new GT73VR I'm not using the pad anymore. Furthermore, I think there is no real improvement in the temperature because it already has a very good cooling system and a lot of room below to take fresh air.
What's you experience? -
I have propped up the back of my GT70 and GT73, I used the GT70 for 4 years and my son continues to use it with no issues. I don't think the slope would put and undue stress on the fan bearings and even if it did they are easily replaced. Having fresh air to the cooling are is important, I had a slight issue once in a hotel where the mouse cable had blocked a certain area and I noted the increased fan noise. I use 90 degree adapters on the cables for both my mouse and Orbweaver which allows me to put the cables behind the laptop out of the way.
-
I've been having a very similar problem lately. It will freeze up with that audio buzzing and I get a kind of cross hatch pattern on the whole screen, then it will reboot. I was wondering if my video card was going bad. I can play for hours with no problem and then out of the blue I get that. It only does it in games. Heat is not a problem. CPU/GPU stays in the 60's at 4Ghz. I hoping it's just a creators update issue.nightingale and DukeCLR like this.

I had to lower my undervolt from -100mV to -50mV to solve thatPapusan, Donald@Paladin44, DukeCLR and 1 other person like this. -
I would try that if I was undervolting.
I've thought about taking it apart and making sure it's not a problem caused by my repasting, but I hate to go through the trouble if it is the creator update causing it and the temps look great.

well I'm on the Creators update, no issues after repasting with Liquid Ultra and a -50 undervolt for my 4.2 x4 GHz overclock -
Anyone know what the correct thickness of thermal pad is used on the CPU heatsink for the VRM's and MOSFETS?
I replaced mine with 1mm Arctic Thermal pads and i noticed that Core 0 and Core 2 ended up running 15c hotter than Core 1 and Core 3 under load which led me to believe that the heatsink was not making full contact on that side of the CPU.
I tried removing the pads and now there is only a 5c delta between Core 0/2 and 1/3. Are there any long term adverse affects from having no thermal pads on the VRM's and MOSFETS? -
Both CPU and GPU use 1.0mm. I used Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 on mine. Are you sure the heatsink is screwed down correctly?Shehary, Papusan, Donald@Paladin44 and 1 other person like this.
