Can someone make color comparisons between 313 and 319 I see a sharper color on the screen after updating the bios

My GT73VR 6F is using what I assume is the original BIOS from July 2016. It's running pretty much perfectly, so I'm not going to try and fix what isn't broken.

There is another guy with the same problem as you. I remember he/she also used Avast ---> remove it!!Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

10A was the last Bios you had?
For the 7RE/7RF that's .313 (now updated to .319). -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
sharper color?
In windows or on the BIOS (logo) screen?
Can you check to make sure that isn't placebo?....
Which screen do you have? The 1080p 120hz TN? -
Hi guys,
I was wondering, did any of you notice this, right next to the GPU heatsink ?
Does it mean we could, in theory, fit a third fan ? -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
That's for a hard drive connector. If you modded a cable you could fit a second 2.5" SSD or HDD in the "empty" bay.
-
Yep 10A for the 6RE

I have a screen version of TN 120HZ fhd. Which I see a better color difference on windows.
Have you updated the bios to 319 ? -

Wow it's a very interesting feature. So where is the second hdd. Whether on slot second gpu? I really need large storage to store data.
-
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Yes but I didn't notice any difference.
And @Phoenix said "nothing was different" and I think he has the TN Screen too (you can ask him).
Are you really sure it's different ? You are the first person who said there was a difference on the 120hz screen with .313 and .319.
Would you fear flashing back and taking two high resolution camera pictures of each Bios screen's color on the same windows screen image (if you have access to one?). If not, oh well... -
^^ someone must be the first to share informaion when someone is asking.
but the good News i'm back on 2666Mhz. -
Exactly. Let all other than yourself be the GP
-
yeah but you cannot get a compatible cable as MSI offering no help and if you wana try other cables, be ready for minimum a fried cable or fried HDD and maximum...brick laptop...
you need to read this whole thread, this has been tried before...the 2nd hdd connector is under the pipes of GPU HS.
3rd fan connector works but fan will not show in Dragon Center and also there is not enough room to fit a 3rd fan inside laptop anywhere, doesn't matter how slim the fan can be.Atma likes this. -
-
Oh okay, well maybe we can make something useful of this connector ? That being said I have the GTX 1080 mono GPU version, so I have plenty of room in the 2nd GPU slot, i'm pretty sure I can fit a fan there
Does anyone know if the GT72 and the GT73 have the same fan connectors ? I can't find retail GT73 fans for saleLast edited: Jun 10, 2017JeanLegi likes this. -
Sir,
you have my full Attention now.
to be honest i don't know if my GT72 has an connector like this and check one of the old Pictures from my GT72S and i can't see a connector like this one.
Not 100% sure but GT72 and GT73 should have the same fan size. -
yeah you can put a fan in 2nd empty GPU slot but
1. there is not enough room for air intake
2. there is no air exhaust point
3. there is no proper way to fit the fan without compromising OEM parts and lose fan fitting can cause vibration in chassis
4. since fan speed cannot be controlled (EC firmware doesn't support 3 fans) will fan run low RPM and if it runs full RPM all the time will you bear the fan noise....?
5. there is no hardware which can be in direct contact of air, what the fan will cool, chassis...?
6. since there is no air exhaust point, where the dust will go, inside the laptop...?
7. since there will be no proper air flow, will it bring any hardware temp down.....No
That's being said.....
-
I guess you're right about pretty much everything, but I still wanna try it
For science !
Edit : there is an air intake just below the 2nd GPU slot, so I guess it could suck air from the bottom and help cooling down the GPU heatsink.
Something like this :
Maybe it wouldn't help at all, but I'd like to try ^^Last edited: Jun 10, 2017Atma likes this. -
are you sure that the fan will do this?
i think that the fan will pull the air more under the heatsink not a direct cooling. -
Hey guys
How much do you overclock/undervolt your cpu?
I am currently running all cores at 42x with -.050V undervolt. GPU was constantly at 2100ish clock. I can post exact screenshot here if needed.
GPU temps were fine around 60-70 but cpu hovered around 80 ish with max as 91
Right now testing with -.090V seems stable but not much difference in temperature.
What fan curve do you set? Is it ok to leave cooler boost to always on? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I overclock to 4.2 GHz on all cores. With IC diamond that I had before, temps were reaching 92-95C under stress tests so I had to give it a -100mV undervolt and it was fine.
I then changed the thermal paste to Liquid Ultra and the temps dropped by 15C so now I can run that same overclock with max temps in the 80-85C but with NO undervolt. Better for stability.
Fan Curve, I just leave it on Auto, you don't wanna run them at max blast unless you were doing some stress test or maybe doing a task that you know will push the CPU to its limits so you can turn them on max blas while you do that.hmscott likes this. -
I mostly mean while gaming for long hours is it ok to leave the fan on for long duration?
I don't want to repaste the so soon after buying I would like to wait atleast few months before I get to that.
Right now I am at 4ghz with -.100mV GPU is at 1632MHz constant (does it fluctuate as well?) With fan curve adjusted to advanced, a little bump for each setting
CPU is at 80ish and GPU at 70ish -

I personally am against GPU overclocking unless you are benchmarking, but for gaming, what are you gonna gain? 2-5 FPS at most at the expense of generating more heat? not worth it to me for a normal user/gamer.
It's fine to run the fans at max blast during gaming although I never found the need to. I leave them on Auto and when the CPU reaches a certain temperature, the fans spin up as they were supposed to by design.
Be smart....be like Phoenix

I use 4.2 ghz -100mv and 4.4 ghz stock (at 4.4, I used both cache at x36 and x41. Cache at x44 just freezes). Done Overwatch at 4.5 ghz successfully. I use Kyronaut, instead of LM. LM is risky unless you're rich and careful like Phoenix.
Auto fans are no problem at 4.4 ghz but if I run stockfish chess engine on all 8 cores (which I prefer instead of something silly like Prime95) I need 100% fan speed. Temps can range from 77-79C in air conditioned room to 84C in a normal room with 100% fan with stockfish running. -
I see a difference. Especially on desktop wallpapers. After updating the bios to 319. Wallpapers that I used to use on the desktop look more colorful
But I'm not too sure if I have not seen the difference with the photo -
sorry if someone already posted, but is it going to be possible to use maxQ graphics cards in older laptops like GT73VR ?
-
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Why would you even WANT to?
Just use a GTX 1070 or GTX 1080 (will require new heatsink and 330W PSU if you are on a 7RE/6RE). -
You said some things which I did not understand at all. I am using XTU for overclocking and only changing multipliers and core voltage offset.
Should I change anything else?
Could you post a screenshot of your XTU please?
I am going to be smart and stop worrying about GPU overclocing

Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
I use Throttlestop, not XTU.
Since Bios allows you to change "CPU Current Limit" (which should be at 100 amps on overclockable CPUs) there's no need to use XTU. And Throttlestop is a much nicer program than XTU.Papusan and goldsmit409 like this. -
Can you help me out with that as in what settings to use/change and what to setup?

7820HK isn't 6820HK.
There are no special settings. You set the overclock checkbox, set the core 1-4 multipliers, then set adjustable voltage (offset) and undervolt CPU core and CPU cache by what is stable.
I used -100mv undervolt up to 4.2 ghz. It's really not hard. Your CPU won't be able to undervolt -100mv at 4.2 ghz. Maybe 3.9 ghz or 4.0 ghz is possible.
You could set Speed shift to 0 to force maximum speed while idle but that's not required. I think it works fine at SST 128. I'm not exactly an expert on this stuff. You should do a search and read other posts as this stuff has been discussed before.Patataz likes this. -

Incase there are new readers in this forum who arent aware, the new Nvidia MAX-Q graphics cards ARE A COMPLETE SCAM. i repeat, THEY ARE A COMPLETE SCAM. If you look at the benchmarks posted by max-q graphics card(s) laptops, you can see that a 1070maxq is basically a 1060 in performance if only marginally better, yet it costs 1070 money for 1060 performance. The same goes for the 1080maxq where it barely performs any better than a 1070.
This all boils down to a marketting scam whereby either Nvidia or the OEM's can make more money by fooling customers into thinking they bought a "1080" or "1070" where they really bought one tier down.
Basically charging 1080 money for a 1070, or charging 1070 money for a 1060. -
The Asus ROG Zephyrus unveiled at Computex had a Maz-Q 1080. And it costs $2699. For the performance of a 1070. Unbelievable

The Razer Blade that came out a while ago with the 1080 was the precursor to Max-Q. It runs like a 1070, yet people lapped it up.

Please help . When repasting cpu/gpu
which way is best.
Whether with a thin and evenly? And better flattened with a spatula or just given like the letter X ? -
Whether using a hdd mod connector like this ?

And of course equipped with fully locked down 7700Hq
And with a lot of storage slots. 1x M.2 + 1x 2.5" slot.

I just wanted to ask a simple question ,since I couldn' find an answer anywhere I looked at...
Just got my brand new MSi GT73VR 7RE Titan notebook and I realized, that the e-gpu button is not working properly, as it should be...
When I press it, it should inform me about a necessary reboot of the system to switch between the integrated graphics and the dedicated gpu.
Unfortunately, it just gives me an error, and nothing happens... I kind a have to do the restart manually for changes to take effect, but it quite annoying.. I've tried reinstalling the gpu drivers and such, but was not able to find any info on whether any kind of re-installation of the "button driver" might help?
here's the error message I get when I press the button:
-
i knew something was fishy with the maxQ when I saw the operating frequency of 1080 at 1100mhz while gaming....thats 700mhz lower than my 1070.

a flex ribbon cable is required, 2nd HDD connector is under the GPU HS pipes near 3rd fan connector. you need a compatiable cable and since no technical documents provided by MSI so it's a very long shot if you be able to find a right cable with right electric connections.
Last I tried, no the HD was not even recognized in BIOS but drive was spinning.
You guys are talking about which I already tried, you can find my posts couple of 100 pages back. I end up
wasted nearly $100 on different cables
fried HDD
fried cable
luckily no harm came to the laptop.
if you guys still wana do this on the name of science, couple of tips
If unsupported cable used, laptop will not boot up at all. so don't panic.
you need 12 pins flex ribbon cable with enough length so cable can reach 2nd GPU empty slot
3 different laptops manufactures used 12 pins flex cable, google is your best option to find out the needle in a haystack, though I tried all these cables and non of them work, one cable fried and costed me HDD, 2nd cable did nothing and 3rd cable power up the HDD but it's not recognized in BIOS or OS.
MSI will not help you in any way, they have bigger fish to fry.
good luck.Jzyftw likes this. -
