Here is a link to where you can download the ROM. You can use the flash utility that was included in the official MSI vBIOS file. You'd most likely have to punch in the commands manually since the .bat file is probably linked to the older ROM, but the instructions will be the same.

Is there anyone with GT73VR-6-7RE/6-7RF who is playing quake champions?
I got a problem with fps drops, doesnt matter if I play on low or ultra settings its always the same. I use riva turner to set max fps to 120, at random times the fps drop from 120 to 100-110. It may not sound like a big deal, but when you play competetive it is HUGE and could possibly make you miss important shots.
I have updated bios, vbios (the chinese (8A version) and all other avalible updates from MSI homepage for my model (GT73VR-6RE with 6820hk and 1070).
I tried uninstalling geforce drivers with DDU and then installing latest drivers, tried G and V-sync both on and off (to be fair I tried changing about all settings in nvidia controlpanel). I set battery, power and everything possible to high performance.
I use dragon center for overclocking CPU to 4ghz, volt seem to hit max 1.25-1.26 on all cores. I can only overclock the GPU if I rise the ICC max from 75A to 100A in XTU, otherwise the CPU clock down or I get crash. I cant seem to undervolt the CPU in XTU while dragon center is active?
Could the fps drop be caused by the CPU/GPU not getting enough power? Is it possible to increase the ICC max higher than 100A or could that damage something? Should I manually overclock my CPU to lover the voltage a bit compared to using dragon center for OC, and that way more voltage is avalible for my GPU? If its not a power problem then I dont know what could be causing this, maybe norton antivirus, or the game itself not being optimized yet due to only being a beta version?
Any suggestions or help is much appreciated, and sorry about my english its not my first language. -
Before doing it in xtu. You have to uninstall the dragon center
Try nvidia inspector for limit the fps. -

I have officially determined that the Nahimic audio driver is worthless. While it does improve sound quality a bit, I've found it to cause stuttering in many of my older games and result in no audio output at all in Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls.

Tried this, still no sound output from the game with Nahimic running. Another MSI laptop user had the same problem and confirmed that the workaround of quitting the app from the system tray works. I submitted a support ticket to MSI, not that I expect it will do any good since they'll probably just pass the buck off to the game developers, but you never know unless you ask.hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
Somehow the drivers in MSI packages for Realtek / Nahimic are linked, I've tried individual drivers and they don't work together.
Also follow the uninstall and install order instructions, otherwise you can have problems too - don't skimp on the reboots either

Already done all that and since someone else with an MSI laptop has confirmed that closing Nahimic works, I think we can safely assume that it is an incompatibility with either piece of software rather than something specific to my configuration.

i did clean install win from sdd but after 5 days i experienced two crashes one while gaming and other one today mouse froze and restarted without bsod an reseted bios settings for both restarts.. im on 4.1 -95mv.. i didnt had those problems when i was coming from factory reset,, i isntalled all drivers as there should be... anyone have an idea what can cause this? im on 7re version thanks
i forgot to mention that before i had a restart i had a colorful screen for a second.. my 1070 shows b7 version in gpu z so i dont know if its related to it or no but i think this is the same problem i ghad when clean install before froeeze and then rr and bios resets to default @PhoenixLast edited: Jun 30, 2017DukeCLR likes this. -

I had something similar. In the past, my 4.2 GHz overclock was stable with a -100mV undervolt but recently after updating the BIOS it would crash when I run anything intensive so I had to lower it to -50mV but thanks to repasting with Liquid Ultra, that was perfectly fine because before with IC Diamond, no way I could do a 4.2 GHz overclock with anything less than a -100mV Undervolt otherwise the CPU would overheat to 95C quickly but now with Liquid Ultra its perfectly fine @ -50mV -
And now as you <need to> update your bios one more time due the Intel bug(if MSI haven't already fixed), you risk a even worse results
Maybe you have to lower your Undervolt one step more, let's say -25mV
Or clock down a notch. Soon yoo need to run with stock BGA clocks bruh

i never updated bios im on stock the thing is i had this before i did a clean install but when coming from factory i didnt had any restarts, especially with reseting bios, my temps on 4.1 is 85c max when gaming for 4-5 hours, only extreme xtu stress it goes up to 90 with -95mv i dont know if its some update or something else but cpu was stable on factory with this oc... do you suggest update bios? oill try undervolt -50 mv to see difference thanks!
-
You could try the middle way. Shrink your undervolt with -10/15mV and see how it goes. Shrink more if needed. You will probably need to update bios when the Intel bugs is fixed. And a re-paste with Liquid metal is a way to go if you don't already have done it. Other who have the model know probably what bios version who is best for highest clocks vs. voltage.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.
-
thanks man, i still experience some freeze for now without rr if its presist then ill go back to factory reset and see, if not ill update bios, i did not want to do it cos i tough it will skip boost 3 on gpu? i actually had those two rr with reset bios when playing well one was when game was minimalized... i really wouldnt like to repaste it yet as laptop is a month old not even
-
I haven't MSI, but try the suggested in previous post... Aka shrink the Cpu undervoltage. In 10mV steps. And see how it goes. If you have temp problems, this will follow regardless what bios you choose. Only Liquid metal can lower temp properly. And of course undervoltage.Spartan@HIDevolution and GENOCID like this.

@Shehary thanks for the PM but i have bigger issues then i thought.
So i did factory reset few days ago and was on old 1511 windows 10 build and old ass drivers and it still crashed, i visited MSI (partner service center) they said i cant have warranty as the unit is bought in US so thats out of window unless i send it back to US or supported countries where they can accept it under warranty.
Later that night i was fed up i opened it up to clean and i "tightened" the GPU heat sink ... and to my surprise no more crash ... so now what i am confused about is that is this a Heat Sink/thermal paste issue or is my GPU has a cracked solder.
i upgraded to Creator Update and updated to latest drivers , games works but i do see "artifacts" and the performance is not what ts was earlier ,i did had another crash while playing but only once so far after win10 upgrade.
i want to ask shall i try to find the thermal paste you guys recommend and try to repaste it myself or shall i look into sending it to US towards MSI to take a look into it , what you guys think is this a Thermal issue or do i faulty GPU solder or something ?Last edited: Jul 1, 2017 -

Maybe the GPU wasn't fully inserted into the MXM slot?
Yes it's possible it's a solder issue somewhere, but when you have a slotted item, sometimes just removing and re-inserting it in the slot could help too. Although that's usually a bad sign; we aren't dealing with Nintendo DS Cartridges here... -
i havnt opened the heat sink myself so far but i am willing to do it if it can help.

Well, good news for my 2nd, and now repaired, GT73VR: I've been running at 4.1GHz on the 6820HK for about a week now and it hasn't crashed!
I finally felt confident enough with the laptop to install all of my new drives. Two striped 256GB Samsung PM951 NVMe drives for the OS (yes, the write speeds are slow for an NVME drive - WHO CARES? There's no difference for gamers), a WD Blue 1TB SATA m.2, and a Seagate Firecuda 2TB drive. Oddly, I did have to call in to reactivate Windows 10 Home after the new install - for some reason, Windows didn't write my Pro key to the UEFI, and it didn't auto activate with the old key that was written to the MB. Weird, but I got it working after doing the Creators Update.
That Delta 330W power brick that I ordered is working perfectly as well. SO much nicer than that ****ty two brick system! I picked it up for only $128 and it comes with a 12 month warranty.
My only current complaint is the fact that you MUST remove the second video card, along with the fan and heatsink assembly (necessitating a GPU repaste), in order to access one of the drive caddy heatsink screws so that you can remove it and get access to the drives. Seriously - they could have moved that screw over just a little to eliminate the need to remove all that other stuff JUST to get to the drives!
Oh, and the fact that MSI's repair depot deliberately neutered my 1070s to no longer function with GPU boost (an integral part of all newer Nvidia cards). Those ****ers lost my money the next time I buy a laptop,Last edited: Jul 1, 2017 -
Asus installed which patch, the 13xx mhz patch or the 16xx mhz patch?
Did you tell MSI to replace the GPU's with new 2017 1070 GPU's that didn't require the vbios update?
Or, did MSI just install that vbios update as part of their process?
Sorry, I didn't read your other posts, so maybe you answered all of this
Did you send it in for 1070 issues? And the fix was the vbios patch?
@in4red - is sending in his soon for 1070 SLI GPU's to be replaced with new ones so he doesn't need to live with nuetered GPU's, are you saying that he will just get patche vBIOS GPU's and won't get new 1070's?
Which MSI region did you send your laptop for repair?
Thanks for the answers @in4red needs to know soon. -
I am new to the GT73VR SLI and after reading your post I got very excited at the prospect of using only one power brick. I searched online and found one available for $109.98. and was going to order it, but after doing a little google-fu decided against it. From what I gather, MSI decided against using the single 330w because it was not able to provide enough juice to both power the GPU at its full potential while also keeping the battery from being drained. I guess if you dont push your cards very hard you might be ok, but I will be sticking with my two brick setup for now. Good luck with your replacement system.hmscott likes this.

There's always the 780W Eurocom unit if you want a single power solution. -
It would be cool, but its not that big of a deal to me. I can live with it the way it is now. I absolutely love this beast. I guess I have been lucky since I haven't had any problems with my GT73VR.
-
How can one determine if they have the new 1070 GPU's vs the old ones that need the VBIOS update? Is there a way to check the build date or something? Are they replacing the GPU's at owners requests? Forgive my ignorance, but I just purchased my laptop and am new to MSI and the known issues with this model.
-
I'll let the guys that have already been fighting this issue with MSI answer, ready their thread here:
** 1070 laptop: GT73VR, GT62VR, GT72VR reboot/crash problem **
As he says in the post I linked to that thread, all the info is in the 1st post, but certainly ask questions that aren't covered enough for your needs.
-
First question how did you OC to 4.1 GHz? Mine only goes to 3.9.
What happened to @Arestavo is awful, nonetheless. Do these techs ever actually read the problems we experience? Send back the unit and have them replace the GPUs like they should have.
From what it looks like they installed the clock limiting bios. I've also been running the chinese bios + 100MHz OC and I haven't crashed all day.
@hmscott I had a pretty extensive RMA discussion with some indian guy for MSI tech support. First I asked if he had every seen/known about this issue, then claimed that these forum posts of you guys having trouble are 'probably fake'. Nonetheless he was pretty informative in telling me that the RMA could take longer if they have to order the GPU (though what repair company doesn't have the latest GPUs in stock?) and that my return window might close.
The MSI repair center near me is based in Markham, Ontario, so I expect better service than shipping it off to a foreign repair center. MSI tech support informed me that I can drop it off at their office and explain to them by issue (he also noted that I did NOT want the vbios update) which is great, face-to-face is always better. I plan to print various pages of this forum of mine and other users experience including the posts on MSI website and hand it in with the RMA.
gt73vr games crashing after 5 or 10 minutes of playback--cust states vbios 86.04.5b.00.44 may be causing gpu clock to limit to 1442.5mhz requesting not to install this vbios version if performing a vbios update.
------- For MSI repair center --------
Summary:
The laptop crashes after game play from anywhere between 5 - 60 minutes, it's really random. Games that have crashed include DayZ Standalone (almost always < 30 mins), Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (5-10 minutes in some instances), Battlefield 4. The game freezes followed by a immediate restart. The VBIOS provided by MSI limits the GPU clock rate to 1442.5 MHz and the chinese vbios (see link below) limits it to 1645MHz which totally kills Nvidia boost feature. With the chinese vbios I can get up to 1745 MHz with overclock without crashing. The GTX 1070 is designed to reach a higher rate than what this temporary workaround provides.
I'm hoping you can replace the GPUs with the identical GPUs of the 2017 MSI GT73VR which does not have this issue.

Thanks for the update, that's all good news, so I'd say follow through and see what happens.
There have been instances of a 2nd RMA being needed for such problems, but you can plug it in and test it at the repair depot (that's what I did) to make sure it's actually fixed before driving all the way back home.
Please keep us up to date on the results, and good luck : -
No, I just told them that the laptop shut off while gaming / benchmarking before it stopped displaying video.
As far as I can tell, it's the same 1070s but with a VBIOS that runs the cards at only 1443MHz (so neither the 13XX or 16XX). I am unable to save this VBIOS as GPU-Z spits out an error that my cards do not support that function (and I tried disabling the cards in the device manager as well).
The fix action was "repair LVDS cable, installed new VBIOS."
Utah or Nevada, I forget which, was the depot location.
Here's a GPU-Z photo:
I looped the Timespy stress test and saw average power draw was about 319W (pre 1443MHz neutering) as seen on my UPS, and DX12 titles tend to draw more power than DX11 so I am not worried (doubly so as SLI scaling in games is worse than in synthetic benchmarks, so power draw will be less in practice). Actually just ran the Timespy stress test again and I'm seeing 255 to 260W on the nose with a 4.1GHz OC on the 6820HK, fans full blast, and GPUs at 1443MHz. Nvidia 382.53 drivers.
I just set the CPU multiplier to 41 and added a CPU voltage offset of +50 within the BIOS. I stopped using Dragon Center to set the CPU (and GPU) clockspeeds. Oh, I did repaste the CPU with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut so I see temps in the 60C range when gaming.
And yes, they definitely did install a clock limiting VBIOS as I never see any frequency other than 1443MHz. Pretty ****ty since the base clock is SUPPOSED to be 1543MHz for the laptop 1070, and boost up much higher than that as the power/temps allow.
Who knows how else the 1070s were neutered with this "fix?" I mean, seriously - 60W lower power draw? I need to rerun some Timespy and Firestrike benchmarks to compare.Last edited: Jul 1, 2017hmscott likes this. -
You have the link to the thread about this issue, with the links for the higher boost clock limit vbios, and link for the original vbios, so maybe you can try reflashing with stock, check for problems.
If you do have problems then it's back to a boost limited vbios, but you can get the higher clocking one flashed for a little bit more performance, as @in4red suggests:
Now that you know about the issue in more depth you can "re-RMA" for a new 1070 GPU(s) if it doesn't come together for you running stock or with higher boost clock.
Please let us know how it works out
Last edited: Jul 2, 2017 -
In the meantime install the chinese vbios its something like 1645 MHz. If you decide to RMA again simply install the MSI vbios again.
hmscott likes this. -
I can overclock to 1645MHz, but any more and it black or white screens. I'm 99% sure that this is due to a power limit being run into, as the power draw is 255 to 300W when OCed to 1645. I can try the dual power bricks later to see if that is the hold up for overclocking headroom, which is quite plausible.
My 1070's no longer like a memory OC either, and when I try Firestrike benchmarks fail.
Edit: That's with the depot's "fixed" VBIOS. I haven't tried the Chinese VBIOS because I can't flash back to this VBIOS (because I can't save the damn thing).Last edited: Jul 2, 2017hmscott likes this. -
