Please, re-read bolded text in post from @GENOCID above!! ThrottleStop v8.48 and how to use it... ThrottleStop Guide (2017) You're welcome!!
Then @Phoenix  Numbers please. Your old CBR-15 bench numbers doesn't count. Need temp numbers for comparison of Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra vs. Conductonaut. Yoo run same clocks, but CLLU.

Edit. Tested same clocks With CBR-15 934cb. FYI 905cb In Cinebench R15 is very low for 42x.

Hey guys I need a little help if you guys have some random time to do something for me.
@Phoenix or anyone who is good at testing, AND bored (!) etc. Can anyone with 7RF and 6RF (1080 cards+7820 or 6820HK), but not the 1070 7RE or 6RE, please do a test for me?

Can you please unplug the battery cable, and then load the **GPU** to high or maximum load, and then try to load the CPU simultaneously to high load at the same time?

Please check what the total GPU+CPU load is.
The GPU shouldn't throttle, but the CPU may throttle with some unknown power limits that throttlestop will *NOT* Pick up. And the higher the GPU load, the more the CPU/ring will throttle.

On a 7RE (1070), even though I'm using a 330W power supply, in HWINFO64, I was getting "Core 1 power limit exceeded, core 2 power limit exceeded, core 3 power limit exceeded, core 4 power limit exceeded, and Ring power limit exceeded.", with downclocks down to 3.4-2.8 ghz randomly. these flags only showed up in HWInfo. Throttlestop showed nothing under "Limit Reasons"
I suspect a Bios setting (in the svet unlocked Bios) is controlling this, but I have NO idea what is, or even if it can be disabled. The GPU was fine, but sitting at less than 100% load due to the downclocked CPU.
When the battery was unplugged, it looked like the total possible system load (GPU+CPU) was around 140 watts. E.g if the GPU was at 120W, the CPU would be at 20 watts and downclocked on cores.
When I set the GPU power limit to 50%, locking it at 75W, the CPU would go up to around 45 watts (only downclocking sometimes).

I also noticed (with the battery plugged in), at around 140W GPU load and around 50W CPU load, that battery was being drained very slowly, like 1% every 15 minutes.

tl;dr: I'm trying to stop the laptop from draining the battery.

BUT FIRST I need to see what power limits the 1080 (7RF and 6RF) are getting with the battery cable unplugged, e.g. is it 140W total? or 240W?

Please check if you have time!
(heck if you have the MSI barebones system/Evoc, etc, with the desktop CPU, you can try this also please!).

    Love you all!

    (How to swim @Papusan <3)

Random question if liquid metal is still liquid on both the core and the heatsink after dissasembly, is it actually neccesary to clean it off and replace it.
It's only been on three months

It depends whether the Liquid Ultra has started to solidify or not. Use a brush and paint over again. Add more if needed. Or clean first, then re-apply new again. I would apply new although the result may be just the same.

    Hello everybody,
I just bought Msi gt73VR 6RF TITAN PRO and have a lot of problems with it. I have well known problem with this laptop ( I read a lot of forums and a lot of people have this kind of noise), I have clicking noise from left side of my laptop. It is not very noticeable bellow 2000 rpm of the fan speed but above that is very annoying. Only way to fix this noise is to put laptop in COMFORT or ECO mode. Then I can not hear clicking noise. In sport or turbo I can hear it all the time. Could You explain me why noise gone with comfort or eco mode?
Next problem I have is with my power adapter. I can hear some cracking sound from power box but just when adapter is not doing nothing. On example I plugged adapter but not connect with laptop ,I can hear the sound or laptop is full of battery and I plugged adapter and connect is laptop same sound. As soon as I turn on laptop or laptop is shut down but battery is charging there is no noise. As soon as adapter work something everything is normal. Is that normal? Last problem I can hear is some very quiet coil whine but not always and just when laptop is in sport or turbo and when I am web browsing or doing some light work. In gaming everything is normal! Thank You very much in advice! I hope we could fix this problem and I can continue to enjoy in this beast!

I just called MSI and they are going to send me new fan. Maybe I will fix first problem but I still have two more. For coil whine sound they told me that is also fan issue but I do not think so...

    Just modified my GT73VR 6RE.

Unlocked LLC control and a bunch of other overclocking controls, not amazing for my OC but keeps voltage a lot more stable regardless of load.

Also modified the bios on both my 1070's
    Increased power limit to 151w-170w

Get a nice 10% boost in Firestrike 4k, now handily beats the desktop 1070 cards

EDIT: 440w system power consumption in Crysis 3, no throttling of cpu
EDIT2: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/13125731 <- if anyone wants to compare stock tdp results against mine

The vBIOS I used the Pascal TDP tool and programmed it using an SPI flasher
The BIOS I used a tool called RU to disable the bios lock bit and then just flashed in FPT

    Bios Modding Guide

    All tools in link below:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_bTuwDv_P1GRm04SlJSTlloV2s

If you have a 6820HK (GT73vr 6RE) you can skip to step marked * and flash the included bios rom after disabling your bios lock using the guide as is.

    1) Disable secure boot in BIOS (this is found in BIOS/Security/Secure Boot Menu).
    2) Get your bios from the MSI website and extract the BIOS file from archive.
    3) Open the downloaded BIOS using UEFI tool. Click file -> search, search for GUID 899407D7-99FE-43D8-9A21-79EC328CAC21. This will cause a line of text to appear indicating successful search. Double click this line.

Note: If this specific value ever becomes outdated, simply search for 'BIOS Lock' - in APTIO-V the bios lock will typically be stored in the Setup DXE. It is probably sufficient to simply search for and extract the Setup DXE

    4) A DXE driver should now be selected called Setup. Right click and save this as is.

    5) Use IFR extractor to extract the saved setup.ffs

    6) Open the new file generated called setup.txt
    7) Search for 'BIOS Lock', you will come to the line displaying the address of the bit used to store the BIOS lock variable. eg) 0x5AE

This is specific to the laptop/bios version so it will vary! Note it down.

    * Now format a flash drive using rufus to 'boot efi using MSR'. Extract the contents of the EFI archive in google drive to the formatted usb.
    This should result in E:\EFI\BOOT\bootx64.efi

Note: It is possible to boot RU without a USB by booting directly to RU EFI. Google this.

    8) Boot the USB drive, this brings you to RU (it'll be tiny if you're on a 4k laptop).
    9) Click return to escape the menu and do 'ALT =' to bring up search.
    10) Search 'setup'. IF this brings you to a page with only two lines of hex this is not the right page, use the PageUp/PageDown keys to get to another page also called 'setup'.
    11) Once on the correct page use CTRL PgDown until you reach your address, eg) 0x5AE for anyone with a 6820HK.
    12) At the address should be 01. Type 00 and write this to the address using CTRL W.

I had to do this several times and kept cycling pages back and forth to make sure it stuck!

    13) Once the 00 value has stuck at your address, reboot and flash your modified bios with administrator FPT -F biosname.rom -bios

To actually modify your bios dump it in FPT using -D bios.rom -bios. Then open it in AMIBCP. That program is pretty intuitive and allows you access to ALL THE MENU's. To make all menu's accessible click the advanced tab and change all menu's from default to USER.

Note: FPT sometimes refuses to play nice, removing .rom from the command, or -bios may resolve this.

EDIT: I updated the archive with a working Rufus and a pre modded bios for the 6820HK. PEG1 is set to enabled to avoid black screen when switching IGP/DGP. Full voltage controls are enabled (I recommend LLC values of 15 for both AC and DC in core). To avoid throttling raise SA/CORE/RING limits.

The 75w limit of the PCIE rails can be changed using this bios, the option is found in Advanced/System Agent. It probably doesn't do anything but who knows 0.o

Overclocking performance menu has many goodies in it

with very limited information of GT75, it's hard to say for sure but yeah chances are that keyboard of GT75 will fit with GT73 but with complete keyboard / mouse panel if connectors / cables will be same.

I wouldn't count on it. It's a different keyboard, mechanical, new design, and there is that new palm rest fitted to the top, which suggests they had an opportunity to re-cut the top plate due to the new keyboard and took advantage of it.

I'm not counting on it, personally I don't jump on shiny things...unless GT75 packs real power...for me it's just another GT73 baby brother with different hair style and looks.... :D

the new palm rest more like fit on top of the keyboard panel....most probably fitted with glue.....so chances are it might fit in GT73 but again keyboard is different and since there is no light in track pad so high chances cable connectors will be different.

physically it may fit but technically it may not......

There is no way the GT75 keyboard fits the GT73. They made the GT75 thicker to support it. How you gonna cram it in a GT73 then? HUH?

    *ahem*

I mostly want the GT75 for the better screen, tbh. It's the first 17" display with 94% NTSC and native HDR support. HDR isn't even supported in many desktop monitors yet. This is amazing.

Now I am coming from a different perspective than most. That's because MSI still owes me one generation of GPU upgrades (since I purchased the 900M equipped GT72), so I'll be able to trade in my current GT73 for a Volta GT-whatever, at a much discounted price.

The more new features they add between now and then, the better.

    Hello,
could someone help me with my problems with G73vr 6rf laptop,I described everything on page 762. I am not sure do I have coil whine or fan produce that sound. I hope is fan, I tried to turn of gtx 1080 and I still could hear that sound like whistle. Maybe is motherboard or fan. I called msi and they told me fan but I think is not. I could hear that sound In turbo and sport mode clearly in comfort mode much less.
    Thank you in advice!

You have two PCIE m.2 slots that can take NVME drives, and the third m.2 is SATA only.

It's a duh answer for this - use the two NVMe 1TB drives in your m.2 PCIE slots. Stripe then (some call it RAID 0) or put them in RAID 1.

No, a NVMe drive will not work in the m.2 SATA slot.

Sell the 256GB and 512GB NVMe drives and buy a 1TB SATA m.2 drive for the SATA m.2 port.

I have another problem with my gt73vr 7rf. I plug in my Siberian 200 Series headset into the 3.5mm jacks and the laptop doesn't acknowledge the microphone (and I have checked it in another machine and it works) it keeps the internal microphone on.

reinstall the latest realtek and nah8imic Driver from the MSI page for your Lady. this should solve your issue.

Hello again, back at it a gain with a display problem... i already posted about my problem a month ago but i didnt know what was the cause, so basically when a try and close the laptop with a tiny bit of force my screen goes black and i cant get it on again ( no msi logo no nothing, just a backlighted black screen) i can use a secondary display but the screen won't turn on, it happened to me a couple of time, i tried different methods that didn't work but the laptop came back to life anyway. yesterday it did the same thing again but nothing seems to work anymore i have a suspicion *on the display cable that isn't well attached and moves when the hinges get a little bit of force; any advice on what i should do next ? thanks

Start your device and push the on/off button at least 30 seconds. maybe this will help. was a hind some hundreds pages ago for bios reset.
when the Screen is back try the Driver from the nvidia page the Driver is working for the gt73vr.

Your cable is disconnected or loosely connected or there is a weak solder point on the board. The other people telling you to reset Bios won't do anything, since you already proved them wrong by using an external display successfully. You can either disassemble the laptop and find the cable connection to the mainboard or LCD panel and see if that's loose on either end, or you can file a RMA for an exchange. There are guides towards disassembly but you have to look for them. There was some "1980's type" video on a full complete disassembly but searching for it on youtube is impossible (you won't find it), someone posted it way back somewhere in this thread but I can't help you find it, because that's too much work. You have to search for yourself.

Black paint is just for show, paint or no paint, it will not effect the efficiency of laptop cooling in any way, MSI just simply painted GT73 heat sinks just to match them with chassis, If I live nearby you, I would happily exchange my laptop heat sinks with yours (mine painted black) and latter I will paint yours heatsinks in red or chili red color and used them in my laptop...... :D

I agree what @Falkentyne said, your laptop display problem not related to BIOS or any other hardware update, an external working display means your laptop working perfectly and it also rules out GPU so it's just faulty cable, bad led or both, I will not suggest you to disassemble the laptop by yourself, it's easy to reach the onboard screen connector but opening LCD panel require professional skills (3 sides lcd panel attached with screen using double tape and you may either damage the LCD or bent LCD panel) so ask MSI for RMA is a best option.
