I miss having the option of using DC. Ever since the creator's update it won't open as well as some other files and I can't even open the install file for it. My audio drivers have acted sort of funny when switching devices to boot ever since the update.
Newb question. I made the MSI back up when I first got my GT73. I'm also currently backing up my files right now. I'm very annoyed with the windows 10 creator update and I want to go back to regular windows 10. So if I reinstall windows 10, do I then run the MSI recovery once W10 is installed? That restores the msi factory settings but does it restore the personal files I had on the computer at the time? I'm not exactly sure how it all works.
I can't run the msi back up program that was in DC ever since the creator update so I am very happy I made the recovery in the beginning.
I have one of the 1070s that had the nvidia GPUboost vbios problem. I have the Vbios that turns the gpu boost off, will that go back to the original Vbios when I made the msi recovery? or it will it still have the current fixed vbios?
Again newb question but I really want to make sure I do this right as I remember somewhere in this thread it was stated the computer will run like crap if I don't have the msi factory settings backed up.
Thankshmscott likes this. -
The MSI BurnRecovery only restores the Windows OS image and Recovery Partition, it doesn't re-flash the vBIOS or BIOS.
Things to watch out for: Don't restore to your current boot drive, as if you have never tried your MSI recovery USB flash drive it may not work - I've run across situations where it boots fine and reformats the drives and then fails to restore... very depressing.
It's best to at least test the restore to a blank drive - unplug all the other drives before starting, including USB storage.
If that works, then plug in the boot drive you want to restore to.
If you are switching to a new drive, that's an ideal test.
Don't forget to unplug all other internal and external drives you don't want to get re-formatted during the recovery

Hi guys ;
How are evryone
I just made a clean Windows 10 installation on my pc,but I faced some problems
1.I can't find the HDD drive that I have now even thought I have formated it throw windows installation Processes, I installed the system on My 1258gb SSD
2.the Pc Is laggy and slow
I appreciate any help
-
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Did you have the BIOS set to AHCI?
The drive should show up automatically as D: drive.
If not, you can go to control panel, computer management, and format the drive there.
Computer shouldn't be laggy and slow.
Make sure you install Intel Chipset drivers at the bare minimum. And MSI SCM (only purpose of SCM is to be able to use the FN keys for keyboard control and for stuff like disabling the touchpad, and (most importantly), for switching to integrated GPU (unless you are using an unlocked Bios). -
hussamalnajjar2012 Notebook Enthusiast
Yes so the defualt setting was Raid,I have changed it to AHCI to install windows on the SSD
and on the Disk managment window I can see the other HDD which has benn formated one from boot menu and the other from disk managment window but still can't see it -
If you can see it in the Windows Disk Management console, right click and assign it a drive letter. You will not see any drives in My Computer/This PC unless they have a drive letter assigned.

Thanks Agian ,BTW I noteced that my pc is somehow slower than before did that happen becuase I change my setting from raid configration ,which I don't know anything about it becuase I have just one SSD -
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Sorry I dont know about this. I don't use Raid. and I dont know about these settings. I Only know if you are not using raid, it should be set to AHCI.
-
I am not sure of any reason why it would be slower. Maybe check the read/write performance of the SSD with CrystalDiskMark or another drive benchmark tool to confirm the SSD is working as expected. If that checks out OK, it must be something else is messed up. With one SSD it should not make any perceivable difference if you switch from RAID to AHCI or vice versa. Everything should be identical in terms of drive performance since RAID includes AHCI. The only difference between them is RAID gives you some flexibility with additional drive configurations that AHCI doesn't. For most people this is irrelevant and it should have no effect on the performance of a single SSD.Papusan likes this.

It is a 6820hk (GT73vr 6re).
By the way, how much overclock can I do to a 6820hk with kryonaut? -
-
Falkentyne Notebook Prophet
Listen to Master @Papusan. He's right.
Usually 4.0-4.1 ghz is the maximum, with rare ones able to run at 4.2 ghz on a lot of volts, and a few got it to 4.3 but temperatures are out of control.
My 7820HK will run at 4.5 ghz stable at 1.11-1.14v and 4.2 ghz undervolted -100mv (1.0v), but according to several people here, this is a "Golden" 7820HK, meaning while many can do 4.4 ghz, it's very uncommon to do it at such low volts. An "Average" 7700k (the LGA socket version of the 7820HK) will do 4.5 @ 1.1v; many can do 4.7 at that vcore.
Try to see if you can run OCCT or Linpack or Prime95 with AVX on your max overclock (may need a very cold air conditioned room) and see if your laptop shuts off by itself, before you reach prochot#. Power draw will need to be over 80W.
If it shuts off tell me because I believe I found a way to prevent it.
BTW did you do what I told you to do? Change ICCMax in IA and Ring, in your BIOS? That's probably what was causing your throttle, Ring limit. I think Kaby Lake version has ring and IA iccmax linked together (which is why XTU changes it in 'GT Unsliced' when I change it, probably because that is where "Ring" was on skylake....) -

Will do it tomorrow or maybe after tomorrow. I need to repaste first. I think have a golden 6820hk, but I will share when I test it after the repaste.

I only want to see if you can make your laptop shut off (with >80W CPU power draw) because you also have a 1070 like I do, so the same power limit should be in effect, which I'm guessing is 80 amps of power draw=90 watts of power at 1.12v. Because the 1070 has a 230W PSU, and MSI "assumes" you are using 115W TDP on the video card (because no TDP mod was available at the time), that leaves 115W remaining for the rest of the system. If the CPU is drawing 90W, that only leaves 25W for everything else; motherboard, RAM, storage drives, LCD panel, LED's, etc. So I'm guessing that the system has a cancer limit on max CPU power draw.
The 1080 version (7RF)--note--all of these laptops use the exact same firmware and Bios--the ONLY difference is the video card that is inserted (1080 has an auxiliary power connector as it draws 200W), has 200W TDP with 330W PSU, so that leaves 130W available, vs 115W available, so theoretically, if the same "limit" is in the 1080, the CPU should have 15W more available before MSI's cancer limit sets in. If you do the test (use 100% fan speed), I'm hoping it shuts down before you reach Prochot, because only liquid metal paste would keep temps below 100C at >90W.
If you read my previous posts, you will see where I found a way to 'prevent' system shutdown at 91W power draw (Prime AVX small FFT) at 4.4 ghz.
I wonder if @Prema knows anything about this.jaime360 likes this. -
Correct, there should be no difference. Single SSD performance should be identical with RAID or AHCI setting in the BIOS. RAID includes AHCI boot mode, but AHCI does not include RAID features or functionality. RAID0 allows you to create a membership of 2 or more disks to make a larger volume with faster performance and a larger volume, but if you do not have a matching drive configured in RAID0 it would be the same as having a single drive in AHCI mode.Last edited: Aug 6, 2017Papusan and Falkentyne like this.

In my experience :
4.0ghz - really easy and low temperature
4.1- 4.2 ghz - Easy, some overvolt in boost, temp are a bit higher (85 C max for 80W TDP with good fan profile)
4.3 - 4.4ghz - Hotter and Harder but you don't use your laptop 100% h24 (not the best ratio btw)
All those test were done with Artic MX2Last edited: Aug 7, 2017 -

I do it because I enjoy overclocked benching. It's similar to drag racing your computer. Every little bit helps pull a higher benchmark score, and the difference in ranking only takes 1 point.
Other than that, I don't need to overclock. But, I like doing it anyway.JeanLegi, Papusan, Donald@Paladin44 and 1 other person like this. -

Looks fine. Do you have thermal paste for repasting?
Having the SOIC8 adapter is fine, but after you use it the first time and detect the chip, once you're done, try not using the soic8 adapter and wire the SOIC8 clip wires directly to the 1.8v adapter and see if that works. I'm not sure the soic8 adapter (that comes on that prebuilt clip wire assembly) is needed (it doesn't hurt as I used it on the Pomona clip), because you're wiring the cables manually with jumper cables, instead of using "preset" pin spacing (the adapter is usually for people buying prebuilt clips+blocks).
If it works without the SOIC8 adapter, let us know, that should save some people some time.Last edited: Aug 9, 2017Papusan and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
Thanks for the answer.
I have thermal paste. I will keep you updated but it will be in a few weeks as some parts are coming from China.
In the past years, I modded a lot of bios "manually" but it's the first time, I'll do something like this

You live overseas, don't you?
If you ordered from Amazon (USA), those parts would have come in less than a week...
I guess you're not in a rush, so as long as they come....
Personally I would have chosen the "pomona" clip, as that's a very high quality clip, with less chances of warping the plastic teeth grip or bending the metal contacts, but I guess yours will work, since it's not a prebuilt clip wire assembly.
Once you get everything you'll be surprised how easy it is. It was my first time too.
the hardest part of doing this is making sure that "Pin 1" is hooked up correctly, and the remaining pins line up. On the 1.8v and main flasher, pin 1 is top left corner (closest to the "latch handle"), and then goes in a COUNTER CLOCKWISE pattern, so naturally, pin 8 will be at the top right corner.
Now, on the Bios chip, Pin 1 is at the TOP RIGHT corner (the corner opposite the MXM slot connector), and of course, going counter clockwise as this is standard for IC's. The problem is, if you wire pin 1 on the 1.8v adapter (or SOIC8 adapter--i do not think the SOIC adapter is needed when you are building your custom wires and clip), and you line it DIRECTLY with the clip (example: pin 1=top left pin on the clip) so it lines up straight, that may look really neat and perfect, but then the pin 1 won't match the Bios IC, since that pin is on the top right. So you'll have to align the wires. It's easier than it sounds. So pin 1 on the 1.8v adapter (or SOIC if you hook that to the 1.8v adapter) will hook to the TOP RIGHT pin on the clip. (make sense?). Then pin 2 (counterclockwise under pin 1) on the 1.8v, will hook up to the next pin ("Left" or "below" the first pin on your clip, depending on how you're holding it). And so on. Very simple and logical.
Just remember: pin 1 on Bios chip=top right, then counterclockwise. Pin 1 on 1.8v= top left, then counter-clockwise. Simple picture the clip is on the left, adapter /flasher on right.:Last edited: Aug 9, 2017low9, Papusan and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -
Is it confirmed that the 1080 gpus have available to them the max TDP of 200 watts in both the Skylake & Kabylake versions of the GT73?

You should be able to tell by taking the bios file from MSI's website and opening it in Pascal TDP Tweaker!
AFAIK it was something like 180W for the 1080 and 115W for the 1070, but I'm not sure.
