I can't say that I paid that close attention to the lights on the buttons while swearing at it, 16gb, two, and it's completely stock so I would hope so.

If the power light goes off and on after 60 seconds, this is USUALLY caused by a RAM training error. And 90% of the time this is defective RAM or RAM that the computer motherboard or CPU IMC does not like very much. I know because I had this issue when I had two Hynix dimms installed with two MSI stock dimms by the reseller. When I replaced the hynix dimms with Kingston dimms (MSI=kingston) for 4x8GB, all my problems stopped AND I could even tighten the timings to 15-15-15-35, 1T, tREFI=32727, tRFC=270.

I was able to overclock my 4x8GB of Kingston Valueram to 2667 mhz, but only at 19-19-19-43 2T timings, Trefi and tRFC Default, but my cinebench scores were lower than 15/15/15/35 1T, tREFI 32727, trfc 270. :(

Trying 1T and trying to pass memtests86 now so I don't Papusan my operating system.
    @Papusan

But I'm going back to 15/15/15/35 1T, Trefi 32767, Trfc=270 if my cinebench is lower.....

Memory scaling in Cinebench. We need faster ram in laptops to get a decent gain

I'm not saying it can't be, but I doubt it's a RAM issue, if it's doing the same thing it was before where video would work via HDMI out, but not output video to the screen. I've been at work since it started acting up this morning with no HDMI monitor to test it.

Ok back to 15/15/15/35 1T 2400 mhz. Apparently i was at 18/19/19/43 1T 2666 mhz (rather than 19/19/19/43), but still. It did pass memtest without errors. And read and write speeds were very high (37.5k, 41.5k, 71.5k) but latency was horrible (57.9ms instead of 50ms).

    And..................
I managed to "disable" Intel management engine bios extension (MBEx) and now it says "Management Engine tempoarily disabled" and I can't re-enable it. I mean I re-enable it but it still says "temporarily disabled". I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing? -.-
I did lose access to the spread spectrum setting in Intel ICC, but it's still at 0% since BCLK is 100.0 instead of 99.750. Funny..I had no problem re-enabling it after disabling it before I updated the ME firmware manually from win-raid way back...

Hi guys I just finally ordered the GT73 VR RF 7 Titan pro 4k Kaby lake i7-7820HK GTX 1080. Just for the record I bought it for 3399 euro plus a Christmas pack for free from a regular reseller here in italy I will mainly use it for virtual reality games and for web surfing. Do you have any suggestion to take the best out of it? Do I have to worry about high temps? Keep in mind I am not so good as you all in putting my hands on it...in case i need step by step instructions.. :)..thank you in advance

Put your configuration in your signature, so that it shows every time you make a post. When you just put it in one post, it will soon be lost in the shuffle.

When does it show white screen? Before OS loads or after?

After. It blackscreens and only recognizes the monitor attached via HDMI even more regularly than whitescreening though.

Both are really annoying. Especially after two RMAs.

Does it show anything without connecting to an external monitor? Such as BIOS screen?

If the OS isn't crashed or the video card is still outputting through external ports, only thing you can try doing, if you don't want a RMA, is a disassembly.
Remove the video card (make sure you have decent spare thermal paste available), clean the contacts and slot with Deoxit D5, then reinsert and re-paste.
Or if that's not enough, look for the eDP cable (requires a complete diassembly), remove it, clean the contacts on the cable and the connector, and check the monitor end of the cable, then reinsert.
Very time consuming, but not like MSI will notice.

Then see if that helps. That's all I can suggest.

hi I dont think u can get 120hz panel with 4k screen if im correct msi uses 120hz on full hd panels only which is 1080p. if u bought it in two weeks time u can still return or exchange it. i would suggest u to get 1080 panel because 4k is demanding on gtx1070 but it depends what would you like to do. also, i dont think u can get over 60fps on 4k screen with 6re with new games so its pointless gaming on 4k esp on laptop if u want to get 120fps in games exchange for 1080 panel. its much smoother

I had a huge issue with a GT73VR 6RE where after the screen turned off, or the laptop went into hibernate or sleep mode, waking the screen/computer up would result in an all white screen and I couldn't ever get regular video back. It forced me to hard reboot and after I'd have no video out for an indeterminate amount of time (half hour, days) regardless of how long I let it sit powered off or however many EC and CMOS resets that I'd do.

The only way I could reliably get video back was to remove all drives and power it up without drives installed - which was a huge PITA because I had to remove the secondary 1070.

I ended up RMAing that POS again and again over 7 months because MSI's repair team could never replicate the problem. I sent them video evidence of it happening the last time I sent it back to them and got a replacement GT73VR 7RE that doesn't have any issues.

You can try installing an old version of Windows 10, but not any of the Creators versions that have this issue. Supposedly Microsoft changed something and that screwed over some MSI laptops. MSI was supposedly working with Microsoft on a fix as of 4 months ago, but who knows if it will ever be fixed. MSI said to me that it is straight up a Microsoft issue, so a fix directly from MSI isn't likely.

Hi Masters of MSI computers! (Especially Phoenix)

Does anyone have experience what is the best virtual surround setting for headset? Is it Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos for Headphones or is it the Nahimic 2+, which comes with the computer?

If you say it is the Nahimic 2+, what are your preferred settings for Music, Movie and Gaming?

What are the best settings if you are using good Stereo speakers?

The same thing happened with hibernation / sleep disabled and just the LCD turning off and waking it back up after a few hours. I don't think your fix would have been a complete fix.

    Hello,

I have a question about hidden BIOS options, because I do not know key combo for unlock these options.

Is any of these options in the hidden BIOS options?
    - PCI Express Native Power management
    - Platform Power Management
    - PEG ASPM (Active State Power Management)
    - ... or similar

I want to try this option(s) because I have a problem with external monitor EIZO connected through DisplayPort.
All about my problem is here ..... https://forums.geforce.com/default/...-drivers/-help-win-10-creators-update-issues/

    Thank you

ASPM is some sort of power management.
If I enable that on the PEG port directly (system agent->peg port 1), CPU idle wattage seems to be lower in software reporting (11W vs 17W). But I think that's a fake result because the Kill-a-watt did not show any difference.

to be honest im not sure what you exactly mean, from what i know there isnt any 120 hz panel on 4k versions of gt73vrs and i think 120hz panel used in 6re 6rf 7re 7rf etc.. are TN panel which btw can be compared to many IPS with very good quality. 120hz panel gives you in games up 120 fps which is massive improvement from 60hz panel = 60 fps. hope that helped you a bit.
if you thinking to exchange a screen from original 4k 6re or 6rf to 120hz 1080p its absolutely not benefical even if that would be possible because u can get straight away 6re or 6rf with a 1080 120hz panel for better price

    Don't bother right now.
Intel's firmware ucode update caused BSOD and crashes. And one person's laptop broke, but that could be just 'bad luck' or maybe bad ucode made voltage spike and blow up. I don't know.
Just don't bother with anything. I'm using windows enterprise spring 2017 build and still no problems. Just update your web browsers, disable that new window process sharing thing in Google Chrome (this might stop embedded videos from playing however), use nocoin script and ublock, and you're fine.

Stop worrying about all this NSA USA government backdoor stuff with intel's bullcrap. All of this crap was intentional anyway. Just took someone years to find out and blow the entire hole open. Just like Ngreedia and their cartels, BGA conspiracies, lowest common denominators....you won't believe what companies do when money calls.

Just update to Bios .31E. slightly faster bios navigating and booting, and should update Intel ME.

Anyone here skilled with debugging anything?

Is this "MSIHiddenFun" Nvar the "Bios unlock key combination" or is this access to that mythical non-APTIO "EC settings" page, with "Hybrid Power enabled/disabled" and "Battery Voltage"?
The unlock combo is known. No one knows the Hybrid Power combo however. And I wants it. I WANTS IT.

And what about that SystemAccess NVAR?

    Yes

    1. Download Intel ME FW update & Install (from MSI Support page or win-raid.com)
    2. Install Windows 10 Update Version 1709 (KB4056892)

above steps will fix meltdown vulnerability

For Spectre.....wait...wait...wait....when MSI will release new BIOS Update...when....no time frame....

No, that was 17A2EMS1.102 (GT75VR firmware).
    I'm talking about 17A1EMS1.109 ....
    I don't know if it's safe to flash !!!!!

    17A1EMS1.107 for GT73 6xx
    17A1EMS1.108 for GT73 7xx

17A1EMS1.109 for GT73 but Chinese version I think

and you can use any of above firmware on GT73 Xxx

    I'm on .108 on 6Rx and I'm sure @Phoenix tried .109

Phoenix did not try 109. He tried 17A2ems1.102 (GT75vr) did not flash because of mis-matched machine ID.
and tried 17A1EMS1.112 (GT73EVR , worked but he went back to 108).
No one has EVER Seen .109 before.

    the time/date stamp is

    17A1EMS1.109 12/02/16 15:16:22

*edit* chinese version? All GT73VRs are identical....
do you even know how I got this EC?

yeah you are right, it must be .112 but how you get your hands on .109

as far 17A1EMS1 matches...it's safe to use...otherwise it will not flash.... .xxx is just version

It's HIDDEN in the MAIN BIOS !!!!!!!!!!!!

    I had to extract it!
i dont know if it works or is unlocked, has hybrid power or will brick!
    someone has to test it.

its HIDDEN in the main bios!
The actual 128k block is squished inside the main bios!!!!

The SHA-1 checksum is there at the end, intact perfectly just like the main EC.
The front is exactly the same "ENE_HARU"
Yet they did not release it......why?
    is this the "unlocked" EC?
Why is it hidden inside the main bios like this ?

.313 bios has this EC hidden in it. 319 bios, 31E bios, .320 (pulled, because of intel ucode) bios...all have this hidden in it!!!

for GT75VR, EC 17A2EMS1.100 is hidden in GT75VR main bios!! but release EC is .102......

    someone explain this.....

I don't think anyone should try flashing it without a programmer available.
I know some companies' bios updates update the EC along with the Bios. But some do not.
GT73VR Bios .31E has ME firmware 11.8.50.3299, but it does not flash it....or the EC....only the main block, boot block and NVRAM...someone is going to have a field day finding out the purpose of this EC...I'll ask again: why does the main bios have the EC embedded in it, if it's not even the same version as the release EC?

17A1EMS1.109 is 'embedded' in every BIOS (edit), starting with E17a1ims.313, onwards to E17a1ims.31E and .320.

    Svet just emailed me back.
He said that this is normal, and that this EC is a "copy of the original EC" and is 'safe to flash'.

However this EC is different than 17a1ems1.108. It's more similar to 17a1ems1.112 (because of the extra "BATT_OFF" string), but many values are different in .112 than .109.
    So I really wonder WTF.

Is this the unlocked EC MSI refused to release?
    Or did someone get lazy?

WHOEVER FLASHES THIS I TAKE NO DAMN RESPONSIBILITY.

but if you do and it works, please run RW Everything and check the values of EC RAM registers "58, 59, 5A, 5B, 5C, 5D, 5E, 5F, 60, 61 and 62, and 63" and tell me if there are all 00000' s there (like in GT75VR---NO hybrid power), or if its 20/80/20/80/20/80 (hybrid).
