Does Dragon Center work with MSI afterburner?
For example, could I use dragon center to control fans and the LED keyboard lights but then use the bios to overclock the CPU and afterburner for the GPU?
-
-
yes it is possible. rather i don't use bios for overclock instead i use intel utility for cpu. afterburner for gpu. put your notebook in performance mode in energy config windows. you will have the same effect as in dragon center.Atma likes this.

I've got the same dilemma dude. The fan noise isn't too bad as I have headphones on and I'm not facing the rear of the laptop but its just a niggle that I'd like to get fixed. If MSI get these fan available for purchase i'm sure they'll get a few buyers
Can't see anything on eBay yet.

why purchase from MSI....?
You already paid for it and it's not your fault if you got a laptop with bad fan.
MSI should sent you replacement free of charge
Even you are doing a favor for them if you are accepting replacement and changing the fan by yourself, it's not your job it's their job, remember you paid for the warranty too...right... -
Is the RAM soldered into the motherboard? Or it is located into the other side beneath the keyboard?
-
Not soldered
Total 4 slots
2 slots under the keyboard (occupied, 2 sticks each 8GB Kingston 2400MHz DDR4)
2 slots other side, not occupied and can access them easily by just removing the bottom panel and install more ram.
Note:
24GB Ram in total will be enough for day to day task or gaming.
32GB Ram in total will be more then enough for day to day task or gaming.
above 32GB will be totally over kill for day to day task or gaming unless you need to do video rendering kind of stuff....Last edited: Dec 21, 2016 -
It was, I asked it. This question comes from the Notebook Check video, because the guy doing the tear down doesn't show the full internals (doesn't show under the keyboard) and states that it is, even though this information is incorrect.Nomad likes this.

Good point, However I just can't be doing without the laptop for several weeks, that and I'll have to blank my hard drive as I don't trust support centres working on it. As bad as the recent alienware laptops are they do have a good warranty where you get the engineers to do onsite fixes.kennyman likes this.

Today, I spoke with MSI support regarding the CPU heatsink (it has 3 to 4 scratches), they close the case saying it won't effect the performance and will not scratch the CPU dye and I was not able to provide them more pictures (proof) because I lap the heatsink and removed those scratches and leveled the surface.
I did ask them about shipping the spare parts and they said yes, I reconfirmed with MSI for CPU fan noise issue and they said yes it's factory fault issue and either you have to send the laptop for RMA or open the support ticket with your problem and they will ship you the CPU fan without any additional charges.
I lost my heatsink case but you can ask for CPU fan. Good Luck.Atma, spoonjaffa and DukeCLR like this. -
I will get in touch with MSI UK support, thanks.

Has any one done a repaste with good paste ? I just sent back my Alienware 17r4 with to many issues and I'm loving me gt73vr . I was wondering if a repaste will do a lot ? The temps are already good but why not make them great !!

Did you ask for a CPU fan? I did and the service ticket support referred me to their parts department. The parts guy said he would send me one at no charge but I don't have an order number or any sort of confirmation so who knows when or if the fan will show up. LOLDukeCLR likes this.

Did a repaste 2 days ago...MX4....3 degree drop in temperature
someone also did repaste....don't remember the paste.....6 degree drop in temperature
waiting for Grizzly Thermal, will have in first week of Jan...will do the repaste again....best guess...if applied properly...6 to 8 degree drop in temperature...Last edited: Dec 21, 2016 -
Is that on gpu and CPU
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
No, I didn't ask for CPU fan, I asked for CPU Heatsink replacement and they close the case with status 'NA'
On same call I asked them about CPU fan noise issue and asked me if you have this problem sent it for RMA and i said no, I don't have this issue but what if I have the issue in future can you send me the fan as replacement without extra charge, they said yes, if you can replace the fan by yourself, we will send you the fan. just need to open the support ticket.
They have all of your detail when you register the product when they will ship you the fan, they will update the ticket status with all the detail. did you checked your ticket btw, may be anything there...? -
Both CPU/GPU and more or less same 3 or 4 degree drop in temperature, -
I didn't paste the result, reason I didn't have any benchmark tool that time but idle temp drop 3 to 4 degree and while gaming 2 to 3 degree, also while gaming, temp result is not accurate or cannot judge is there really drop in temperature, CPU/GPU perform different in different level of game stages with different settings.
I did one more very interesting test, checked the laptop idle temperature in different room ambient temperature and I will say, when summer starts, the first thing everyone will do is re paste.
here is the summary of 3 days test and all tests had been done in controlled temperature environment.
First day, room ambient temp 16 degree, laptop cooled boot, CPU/GPU temp 36/36 (1 or 2 degree up or down)
second day,. room ambient temp 21 degree, laptop cooled boot, CPU/GPU temp 41/41 (1 or 2 degree up or down)
third day,. room ambient temp 26 degree, laptop cooled boot, CPU/GPU temp 46/46 (1 or 2 degree up or down)
so that means, with stock paste, when summer starts, room ambient temp will be above 28, laptop cooled boot idle temp will be 48 to 50.....Last edited: Dec 21, 2016DukeCLR likes this. -
now the hotfix, can't they take the time to check and then release the drivers....

On the plus side they didn't void your warranty for the work internally - some people worry about that.
And, on the plus side you reported a heatsink damage issue so they know about it for future reference - such things do get searched on at manufacturers when trying to hunt down the source of problems - your serial number + manufacturing date should help them track down the batch it happened in.
And, you fixed it yourself; MSI probably would have swapped you a new one if you didn't already fix it, just like they are sending you a fan - when you file the ticket.
Good work!

It's funny you mention this, I was in Zurich the other day and the hotel there, as many in Europe, has terrible temperature control and the room was uncomfortably warm, During a BF1 session I noticed the CPU fan was much louder then normal and my CPU temp was 82, a little higher then usual. I think you may have a point.
376.33 is working fine for me, I have played many hours of BF1 without any crashing, I have time to kill today so I may just try these and see what happens.
I think that darn sticker is there just to scare people off a bit, with MSI sending fans out it's a sign that someone there realizes that some of their customers have the ability to fix certain things. It's a win win, they can save money and avoid adding unnecessary burdens to their work centers and us as customers don't go weeks without our machines. -
I cant seem to find a notebook version of 376.48.
-
Seems to be combined desktop/notebook
http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/geforce_376_48_hotfix_driver_download.html -
All past and future hotfix drivers here
As @zipperi said, nvidia put both desktop/notebook drivers in single package.
but if you don't have any problem with current drivers, you don't need it, it's just a hotfix and it only addresses the following issue;
Workaround to fix incorrect Folding@home work units.
Fixed random flashes in Just Cause 3.
Fixed some issues that could lead to Battlefield 1 crash
Fixed SLI texture flickering in Battlefield 1.
Fixed corruption in Wargame: Red Dragon game.

Hello. Just picked up my GT73VR 6RF Titan Pro. And must say it looks good. And preformes good, but I need an exstra ssd. Is it hard to install it yourself ? And will this work okay ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/300GB-SSD-S...283186?hash=item1a214470f2:g:GY0AAOSwo4pYRdFH

Your notebook comes with 1x 2.5in SATA drive slot, 1x m.2 SATA drive slot and 2x m.2 PCIe drive slots.
Your 2x m.2 PCIe slots should be occupied by 2x 128GB intel SSDs that are in RAID 0 turned into a single 250GB SSD that contains your OS install and the recovery partition.
Your 1x 2.5inch SATA drive slot should be occupied by a 1TB 7200rpm HDD
You have 1 single SATA m.2 slot unoccupied.
Your link is a 2.5 inch SSD, if you wish to install that SSD you would have to remove the 1TB HDD to put your SSD in, the installation process is as simple as plugging the drive and just screwing it in place, your system will automatically detect the SSD and it will show as a new empty drive that you can use immediately.
I would recommedn you get an m.2 SATA SSD instead to install it in your empty drive slot next to the 2 intel SSDs.
There is a difference between a SATA m.2. drive and a PCIe m.2 drive, one is not compatible with the other connector (even if they fit), so when buying be extra careful and ensure the SSD you're buying is a SATA m.2 and not a PCIe m.2, the best way to ensure you have the correct SSD is checking the model name. For example, samsung 850EVO m.2 are SATA, whereas their 960PRO SSDs are PCIe m.2
It is a bit confusing at first so I suggest you do some research and watch some youtube videos unless you're certain you want to replace the 1TB HDD With a 2.5inch SSD.Atma likes this. -
Tank you so much, thats why I asked here first. Can I use this? ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Sealed-...210719?hash=item282730f11f:g:c6kAAOSw241YVtXs

Yes, this is the exact one I ordered to expand for my GT73VR 6RE. Since we don't have the exact same model I'd recommend you open the back of the notebook and check before you buy but this is what it should look like:
You can see 3 slots for drives and 2 of them occupied by 2 SSDs, and above the connectors on the motherboard it says 'PCIE 1" and "PCIE 2"
There is one slot unoccupied, if you remove the black useless block you can see it says "SATA 3" on the board. You can install that samsung 850 in that slot.Atma likes this. -
GT73VR 6RE & 6RF, both have same bare-bone, MB etc etc....only difference is Power Supply and Graphic Card, 6RF has GTX1080 with 330W power supply where 6RE has one GTX1070 with 230W power supply or Daul GTX1070 with 660 power supply. Rest of the specification and inside of both models are same...Atma likes this.

yes you can use this drive, in m.2 sata slot, it will work out of the box
Note: you also have to buy the thermal pad, m.2 slot drive is not covered by thermal pad on heatsink. thermal pad thickness is 1mm. it will keep the drive temperature low.

Tnx so much for the help! Buying the ssd now. BUT thermal pad ?? Where can i get that ? Do you have link ??
Atma likes this. -
you can find thermal pad on ebay too, just don't fall for the unknown brand or very cheap thermal pad,. better use something with Thermal Conductivity: 3.2w/m-K or above
if you planing to add just only for m.2 sata drive and don't want to replace the yellow greenish pad (factory installed stock pad) then you must, must, must buy the thickness of 1mm.
minimum size you will be looking for width 30mm and length 90mm
if you planing to replace the yellow greenish pad (factory installed stock pad) then suggest to buy the 1.5mm thickness for better contact with all drive chips.
minimum size you will be looking for width 80mm and length 90mm
Precaution: If using 1.5mm thickness, make sure you tightening the screws of heatsink in X shape and evenly otherwise you may damage a drive or unbalance the heatsink, 1.5mm thickness is not recommended.
I will suggest to buy 3M brand, I have good experience and it's cheap, you can also go for Arctic Thermal Pad.
in any case buy a bigger size pad, you can use the spare latter in future on CPU / GPU vram chips, 1mm is the standard thickness of thermal pads used in GT73VR.
Here I changed the thermal pads on heatsinkLast edited: Dec 23, 2016Atma likes this. -
Sorry if this has been covered before....but does anyone else have an issue with GTA V crashing if it is run full screen?
The game runs great all maxed out in windowed mode but always crashes during load if I try and run full screen. 376.33
Tried different driver version but same crash every time.
On Nvidea 376.33 drivers at the moment. -

What sort of crash (BSOD, dialogue box with error, etc.)? -
Has any one tried LM on this thing yet ?

Do you have any information related to the crash? Have you tried removing the Nvidia driver completely and reinstall it clean? -
Maybe. What's LM?
-
Yes I did a clean removal of the driver and a fresh install same issue.
No real info ..but when game starts I never get the music or the startup video and after 2 minutes or so a dialogue box pops up saying game failed to load windows is looking for a solution.
I am happy to run it windowed for now as it still fills the screen and rins fine. -
Happy almost Christmas everyone. I'm hoping someone with the 120hz model of the MSI Stealth Pro 73vr can provide me with an ISO or some way to restore my laptop to factory settings. I did a clean Windows install, but buyers remorse has set in. I want to return it, but need to get it back to factory settings. Can someone provide an ISO from their software and then upload it to a cloud service? I could throw $20 your way over Venmo or Paypal. Would really appreciate your help.

Woah! After swapping my order two days ago with GenTechPC from an Aorus to a MSI GT73VR that they did have in stock, it's already shipped!
This is AWESOME! They're fast. I'm going to see if I can get a Svet bios/vbios made now. I've heard great things!

Have you tried running without nahimic? Just to make sure it is not causing issues.custom90gt likes this.

If you ever need to quickly test whether Nahimic is the issue, open Task Manager, then end Nahimic2Svc32.exe and Nahimic2Svc64.exe under Background Processes.
To start them back up you just relaunch Nahimic. -

You can just return it without restoring it, because it will end up as open box/refurbished item. It's not required to restore the OS to stock.ryzeki likes this. -
I have an issue. I have uninstalled Dragon Center and have been using Afterburner for GPU OC (tough I don't OC the GPU) and Intel XTU for CPU but I have been running into some problems. When I OC the CPU with XTU to 3.8 lets see and I benchmark it inside XTU I get a lower score then on stock values and I actually see that the cores are running at 3.2-3.4 but not 3.8.If I push it to 4.0 and just try to benchmark the CPU I have the same issue or the PC will crash. I am not changing any other values when using XTU , only the core multipliers ,processor core Iccc max stays at 75.00,Turbo Boost Power max and short power max are at 200.000 W and the only thing that changes is actually Turbo Boost Power Time Windows to 1 second from 28(default) . I have done a default restore in bios and this is what I got but I am not sure of these are the correct values. If anyone could post a picture with their actual XTU settings while their CPU works fine at 4.0 I would be grateful .
Merry xmas to everyone!
