Here is my firestrike results... I'll probably try to go for 16K later on.. but for now I'll go ahead and start playing some games lol..

Got rid of Dragon Center and manually OC'd to 4.0GHz, 4.1-4.2GHz were attainable but required a few tweaks.. 4.0 will probably be my daily to keep the temps down.

Using Afterburner to OC the GPU.. I do wish it had power limit and voltage control, otherwise you're looking at an average 1900 or 2000ish with boost.

But over all performance has been great on my end... that smooth OW at 130+FPS Ultra, the maxed out Dishonored 2/GTA V etc...

Are you using the default turbo profile on this run? ive gotten 16k-17k easily with the turbo preset.

on a 6820 + 1070 system haha, i find that the turbo profile is pretty decent for daily driving. If MSI themselves have the balls to overclock the system and give you a warranty as well as guarantee that the computer will perform at 4ghz and +100/+200 respectively, its pretty beast, shows how much confidence they have in their product.

True, I was fine with the dragon center but there were some instances where the app itself was bugging out and then not showing the right values or one time I was playing a game and it was stuck at low fps.. come to find out the CPU was stuck at low clocks and dragon center wasn't displaying the right frequencies so I ended up uninstalling it entirely.

Does anyone know or have that phone number for Tom at MSI that we need to contact that has completed a customer warranty request for the CPU fan noise? I sent in a ticket, received a ticket # 4 days or so ago and was only told by MSI to email Tom to get started with the replacement fan request. I did then and the first mail went through undeliverable and I have not received any follow up from MSI or Tom at MSI since then and have emailed a follow up myself to MSI and Tom. Fan "whine" is driving me nuts....thanks!

Contact Number of Tom Ho in his email signature: Tel: (626) 271-1004

    Send Tom a reminder email,

I emailed him and no reply, waited 2 days and then sent him reminder email and got reply, he asked for the NB detail (even I sent him the TS number in first email but he asked for the NB S/N) and now waiting again of his reply.....

what is the version of nvidia driver you are using...?

on CPU 4.0 OC LM does make a noticeable difference around 10 degree but on GPU only 2 degree difference as compare to Grizzly Kryo....tested @ 23 room ambient temperature and GPU 175mhz and 180 memory OC

my best guess, GPU is a bad LM re-paste. If LM make noticeable temp difference of CPU, should make noticeable temp difference of GPU.

CPU /GPU idle temps both at 40 @ 23 ambient temp with Grizzly Kryo...

I'm having loading screen flickering issue in fire strike also in games too...only right side portion (can say right side top corner) of screen only flicker and only in loading screens never in games or while running benchmark tests.

Does anybody have this same issue...?

Decided to run one more test with drivers 376.19 and result with all same OC / Test settings as @Cerreta28

Difference is in CPU temp 5 to 8 intact but GPU temp same 77...may be because my room ambient temp drop little around 22 at the time of the test.

There is another difference the GPU Power my test max is 216w where @Cerreta28 test max is 211w.

anybody have any thoughts why same machine with same spec, same Graphic drivers but one is using more power as compare to other.....?

    Hi! I need help....
I'm clean installing windows. I have downloaded the iso from Windows Web page when booting the iso, the installer only shows the hdd and it does not show the raid of the nvme ssds. If I try to install it in ahci it shows both ssds, but when I do the raid in the bios it doesn't show it in the installer.
I did a usb recovery flash drive but I don't have it with me and I won't until March.
    What can I do?
How do I make the raid to be shown in the windows 10 installation?
    Thank you!

I reply myself. After 4 hours dealing with this I have found the solution. You need to download the Intel rapid storage floppy drivers, unzip them, put them in a USB and when installing Windows select the option to load drivers, click on them and after a while, you will see the raid partition and you will be able to install.
I hope someone will need this info.

i clicked on Turbo mode in Dragon Center, set fan control to Auto, and ran Firestrike. I have the 1070 model with 16GB Ram...my Graphics score was 16468 and my overall Firestrike score is 13955...does that sound about right for the 1070 version? I have the latest Nvidia drivers 376.33 installed

    Hello, all

I'm considering the GT73VR 4K, with a Kaby Lake CPU and GTX 1080 GPU, as a mobile engineering workstation for programming, data analysis, and 3D rendering and simulation (using both CAD and game engine tooling). As a very fast touch typist, one of the attractions is the SteelSeries keyboard. I would like to ask for comments from owners on a couple of specific questions. The other machine I'm considering is the Clevo P775DM3. My supplier would be HIDevolution because I like their options for customization and support for a work-grade machine.

Here are my areas of interest in your comments:
    • How would you describe the feel of the keyboard? I have a SteelSeries gamepad which I really like, but I don't suppose one can directly compare. In particular, I'm interested in the amount of tactile feedback (I don't care if the keyboard is noisy or silent, but I prefer a sharply-snapping "clicky feel"). How is the spacebar on the SS keyboard? I have found that's often the most problematic key.
    • I need 2 TB of SSD and would spec the unit with a Samsung 960 Pro 2 TB in one M.2 slot, with the other slot available for future expansion. It is not clear to me from MSI's spec page whether they support NVMe or just SATA mode. Can someone please clarify, and are there some Crystal Diskmark scores with this machine and the Samsung 960 Pro SSD? (Or, if you've got this combo, perhaps I could persuade you to run and post?)
    • Any comments on color gamut, light bleed, and brightness/contrast with the 4K panel, assuming calibrated color profile? Is someone on this thread doing photo or video editing professionally?
    • What's the thermal and overclocking situation on this model with the Kaby Lake CPU?
    • I've been browsing this thread to learn about the machine's reliability. My previous experience with an MSI product was very positive, but that was a Windpad 110 tablet and not a full laptop. If anyone else here is using on of the GT73VR systems for engineering or similar work, I would appreciate your comments.
As I said when posting similarly on the Clevo thread, I'm new to this site, so if I'm posting this on the wrong thread, please let me know, and I'll move to a more appropriate area. Thanks!

My best 3DMark Graphics score is 18,954.

I just maxed the OC bars in Dragon Center and hit max fans.

What is the highest overclock you guys have achieved? I feel like my 1070 can go beyond the OC the Dragon Center allows.

Keyboard feels good, the keys do have a nice spring to them, imo.

The first 2 SSD slots are NVMe.

    I don't have the 4K.

I don't have Kaby Lake, but it seems to be about the same as the previous CPU. Kaby is just a few 100MHz faster.

I can't answer all of that but I have a few things that might help. I travel for a living and I use the machine for gaming and surfing the web, I;m not sure about the engineering programs.

There are three M.2 slots, 2 Nvme and one Sata.

I like the keyboard, it does have a nice tactile feel when pressing a key, I'm a bit picky when it comes to feel and I'm a big fan of CM brown switches, theses aren't as good those but I like them anyway.

I have minor light around the edges but I can't notice it unless the screen is black, I have the 1080p 120 Hz screen and I really like for the games I play.

I haven't heard about any Kaby lake overclocking but I have had great success with my Skylake.
Be sure to post your experiences with it if you decide to get it.

Overall its a nice rig, just try to sniff out if you have a lemon or not right away and return to the vendor as opposed to going through MSI. MSI RMAs take way too long for the money we have paid.

    Good luck.

Thanks, @Kevin and @DukeCLR. Good info, especially confirming the NVMe support. With the database work I do, being confined to SATA would have been a dealbreaker.

Good Morning to everyone. My name is antonio and i'm from Italy. I've Just purchased this wonderful dream machine and i love it :).
Now , I had a problem with the installation of a video driver. During installation, the PC is locked and the screen went black. After waiting several minutes I was forced to a forced shutdown of the PC using the power button. Afterwards everything went perfectly. I ran a check of the logical drives C and D, and I did not detect any errors. Everything now works perfectly. My question is this: may i have ruined something with the forced shutdown of the PC via the power button? I made every possible scan but the logical drives are perfect. Can I feel comfortable? thanks in advance for voste answers. Antonio

Overall score I can almost hit 16K and a 19K graphics score. I'm thinking if I overclock the CPU from 4.0 -> 4.2GHz I can get the extra points to hit it lol.. I'm using beta drivers right now 376.66

So I get 15,469 score and 19,006 for graphics.

The overclock I'm doing is manual on the BIOS and using Afterburner to overclock the GPU.

After 3 years I've retired my AW18 with 780SLI. Was a great machine until one of the 780 died. I had a AW17R4 on order until I read up on the heat sink and temp issues.

Many thanks for providing informative and persuasive info on the MSI 73VR. My 6RF-202US has been problem free since it arrived just before XMAS.

Was able to grab 2x at retail pricing before they were sold on Amazon. Can't wait to see the 960 Pro hype was able about

When i purchased my gt73vr they gave me a free hecate backpack, although the laptop does not actually fit in the backpack (dumb right?), the msi hermes backpack i had from a gt80 fits it just fine, although theres extra space for it to jiggle around in so its not a perfect fit. I also have the ROG nomad backpack which fits the laptop very well.

    tldr:

MSI hecate backpack: included free gift which doesnt fit the laptop (???? was my reaction)
MSI Hermes: fits the laptop, but has some extra space around so not the best fit
ROG nomad: same to hermes but less free space so id recommend that one out of the three. (but if youre somewhat like me and dont like to "mix brands" then the nomad might not be that good.

Well actually I have the MSI Hermes with me right now,but the thing is ,it doesn't give a good protection for the laptop,I can tell that it would be a good choice if you want to store the laptop or keep it ,but if you want to move around ,it seems that it will not be a good choice ,so I've been looking in the market for over a month now,and Man !!!! really I cant find any other choice so till this moment I didn't take my gt73vr to anywhere other than my desk ,cause if it get scratched or damaged ,I'll shoot myself LOOL

I don't (yet?) have the MSI, but I previously used a Thinkpad W700 of comparable size. I had very good success with the 17" version of the Targus Citygear messenger bag, and their XL backpack (the navy and black one). I've found the bags from Swissgear don't hold up as well. LL Bean also makes some very good "urban backpacks". I don't have their laptop bag, but I have a general urban pack that happens to have a laptop pouch in it. I use that for overnight or weekend travel, combining "suitcase" and "laptop pack" in one.

Easily installation and extra details like the SSD drive heat sink make it stand apart from brands like AW.

Not sure if I could sense the difference from stock SM951 512 and the numbers look good

After playing FF XIV for 12 hours drive temps never exceed 34C.
