MSI recommends 128KB on pretty much all of them, however I saw one model with 64KB in their documentation but I think it is okay to stick with 128KB.

So the price of the GPU or CPU fan is 22 Euros. Not too bad, I really would like to push to get it free and maybe a complaint to head office is due but at this stage I'm gonna pay for it. Gonna order a spare of each just incase, maybe will sell on sellers forum or eBay if all good.Last edited: Jan 25, 2017hmscott likes this. -

Manufacturing installation of the fan is variable based on how the assembly person did it - different placement = different experiences in noise reported from the owner.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Then you have as long as MSI USA keeps the trade-in program alive, and they said that's well past the time of the 2nd generation CPU release which is Volta at this point.
* Ignore the 12/31/2016 deadline on that web page, MSI USA said they are still taking form submissions from GT72/GT80 owners, I've asked MSI USA to update the dateShehary likes this. -
CPU fan has 2 screws where GPU fan has 3, so may be one reason is these 2 screws which not very help full to tight the CPU fan at it's right position.....hmscott likes this. -

I went back to EC 105 with no problem. I'm not sure about the fan noise yet but I have all 6 positions back for the fan speed on the CPU.

GT73 7RE/GT73 7RF and/or 7Rx Titan 4K owners...
Hello all, i just sent back a second MSI GT73 Titan 6RE 4K model 226 (first unit, graphics card died within a week, 2nd unit for last 30 days has had worsening similar symptoms (sudden, high heat, calico/pattern screen then restart, EVERY time i export) and crashed on every render with Premiere Pro CC 2017. SAME Adobe software specs and project export flawlessly on employees' earlier build Titan 6RE 4K. Both of my Titan 4K model 226 units of same batch). Added 16GB identical RAM, 850 EVO 1TB SSD as os/install, and 960 EVO 1TB as source/output. I film/edit advertisments, and very rarely game on it. While rendering, which is GPU/SSD/HDD/CPU intensive, i kept it plugged on on the desk i built, which is stainless steel mesh to aid in airflow. Tried every configuration of hardware, firmware, and software to no avail. I bought these based on an employees identical, older Titan 4K 226, which works flawlessly. My 1st GT73 was purchased 9/1/2016. Build date for both was 2 days apart in Sept 2016.
No overclocking on the laptops, just vanilla CPU and GPU specs. Normally, i use an i7 980x 6-core desktop at 3.8Ghz CPU with a Corsair Hydro H100 with 4 fan push/pull cooling setup, with 24GB RAM, twin 850 Evo 1TB SSD's, an Areca 1880ix RAID controller with 8x1TB in RAID6 with one IPS 1440p 27" display and a 4k 50" tv for client consideration on a GTX 660 2GB in a HAF 932 case with lots of fans, that i built, overclocked, and set up myself, which has run for 60 days straight idle and at max utilization, 100% stable for Adobe photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
I just upgraded from the Titan 4K 6RE GTX 1070 to an MSI GT73 Titan Pro 4K 7RF with GTX1080, and wondering if i made a mistake; i have some abroad filming work coming up, hence i purchased a high end laptop, and for the money, NOTHING else comes close.
I film at 1080p or 4k in RAW; and these laptops kept right up with my work desktop (for work. For play, they blow it out of the water by an order of magnitude). I have been highly impressed with the capability of unti 2, but the last few days its done the same as my 1st unit, before the screen/graphics totally died.
We tested both my 2nd unit and my employees unit with identical hardware, sodteare, and firmware, and same Premiere Pro/After Effects project. Mine always failed/restarted/locked up. ZERO OVERCLOCK OR MODIFICATION.
I REALLY adored these units, especially as something i could put in a Pelican case and shoot/rough edit/rough export on site for clients.
Anyone else experience sudden heat/GPU/screen failures? My GF plays BF1 maxxed out at 4k, i play Hitman 2016, and we both played Far Cry Primal and R6Seige each for hours at a time, same specs, to a 4k TV ZERO issues, all with G-Sync on and 35-60 fps, averaging 50+ with GTX 1070 and i7 6820HK CPU on Samsung 850 1TB Evo SSD.Last edited: Jan 25, 2017 -
GPU Failure: Yes only one user reported
Screen Failure: No
Only one user reported GPU die (you can find the post in first 50 pages of this thread) 10 hours intense gaming....shutdown the laptop....next day laptop refused to wake up....laptop died in sleep....peacefully....
GT73 series originally designed and made for gaming....rendering can be done on it but not all the time...(I suggest to check MSI workstation with Quadro series)
If you are doing real time video rendering all the time and as you said it's GPU/SSD/HDD/CPU intensive....so GPU is constantly having load of 100% means high temp all the way during video rendering process and after a week or 30 days it's normal if GPU die on you....I think the GPU (if it can beg) comes out of laptop and request you to give it a break......
gaming / benchmarks are different scenarios where GPU load fluctuate according to game / benchmark environment and never stays at 100% all the time....
good luck with new MSI GT73 Titan Pro 4K 7RF with GTX1080.....
if you wana continue the video rendering on it....make sure you use advance fan curve and specially adjust the CPU fan curve so it keep cooling the GPU vram...if GPU under load continuously and CPU fan running at low RPM (Left CPU fan cools down the GPU vram where Right GPU fan only cool GPU die) heavy chances the GPU vram are failing....
stock thermal pads on vram are very low quality....with 100% continuous use of GPU, you should change the thermal pads of GPU vram with better quality like Phobya or Minus 8....
suggestion / opinion from more expert users are on the way.....hmscott likes this. -
So... I can't change my fan speed at all for some reason. Tried both Afterburner and ASUS GPU tweak without any success (the fan tab doesn't even appear). I also tried doing a clean uninstall of the GPU drivers and reinstalling the latest ones before installing AB but that hasn't worked either.
Can anyone help? -

After going back to ec105 I haven't noticed any moaning cpu fan noise. I am, however, still getting BSOD's after reinstalling windows. A Bad_Pool_Header then 2 or 3 Memory_Management errors. It's usually after a cold boot first thing in the morning. Is there any app that can trace down what's causing that? btw .. what is your idle gpu temp on turbo? Mine is hovering around 55-56c.
-
did you check the system in safe mode....see if BSOD's, Bad_Pool_Header error shows in safe mode or not..... more details
when cold boot GPU temp should be below 40 and idle between 40 to 45....depend on room ambient temp 24 to 26....Last edited: Jan 26, 2017Atma likes this. -

when did they start? did you overclock your CPU? if you did, can you run it at stock and check?
PS: I don't mean the built in MSI Dragon Center overclocking but any manual overclocking settings you changed -

I'm going to keep messing around with my GPU fan curve before giving up on 105. I tried @DukeCLR settings and they work great for the CPU but my GPU is still hitting 84. He's got a 1070 and I've got the 1080 so I probably need to be more aggressive with mine. -
My temps look more normal on 107 doing my normal work routine. On 107, I have to back the top fan speeds down some to keep the fans no more than 2500 rpm's. That usually keeps the temps no higher than 75c.
-
Does anybody with the 1080 care to share their dragon center advanced fan curve settings?
-
I'm sitting here messing around with the OC on new desktop and I'm listening to a radio program on my laptop, I just looked at my idle temps and they were at 50, I then launched DGC an put it in the proper mode and it's back to 36, I guess it was stuck on a Turbo mode and I need to remember to drop it down when I don't need the extra horsepower.

I haven't had the opportunity to update laptop graphic drivers, I thought I read that MSI had posted some, I see they have 376.39 but the 378.49 at Nvida, so what are you guys using? @Phoenix mentioned something about high temps with 378.49.

Yea it's been crazy busy. Just finished a couple 17R4's, 15R3 and still tuning the GT73VR to try and get 46x to stick. It's coming along well and I'll be doing some benches tonight.
Also I've been compiling info for the review on the GT73VR along with the one comparing it to the 17R4, which a lot of folks want to see. There are perks to both for sure. Some 1TB Samsung 960 Pro's came in so I've been toying with that as well. Wow these drives are fast. The sustained speeds are remarkable. I do have a few so let me know...PM me if anyone's interested. -

Right now 2400mhz is stock speed, and all the faster memory isn't working correctly in Windows.
It's seen in the BIOS "correctly" - speed wise - but once in Windows it's at most 2666mhz but doesn't perform as well as 2400mhz native stock SODIMM's.
@Phoenix went through this recently with HID @Donald@HIDevolution and XoticPC @pat@XOTICPC that offers 3000mhz build option that doesn't run at full speed:

Long thread there, please check it out
My MSI GT80 supports 2133mhz up from 1600mhz, as did my Asus G750, so it would be nice for the GT73VR to support relatively faster memory too.
With all the reports that Kabylake is supporting faster memory than Skylake in desktop's, it would be nice for MSI to get it to work in their laptops too
