As a new MSI user I have to ask, is the crazy keyboard layout something that you will learn to accept over time? Is there ANY advantages by having a keyboard layout that is like no other keyboard? Are there any usable workarounds? I know I could remap keys but not sure if I can also remove the key hats and switch them around?
Honestly, it's driving me crazy. Every time I am to type <2, no I mean @ of course, I'm having a mental breakdown.
-
Thanks for the feedback. Problem is that if you often use different keyboards, like using external keyboards at work, then a different layout will cause problems no matter what.

Just noticed that while laptop charging, if use cooler boost fan option, fan goes to full speed @ 5000RPM and than drop to 4900RPM and speed fluctuate...so while charging fan doesn't run at full RPM constantly ...
-
One more time but with proof...
If you have noise problem with fans...
- Register laptop on MSI website
- Open Support Ticket
- You will receive a reply (in an hour in working days) for RMA (in your email)
- Open the email and click the ticket link (easier to get back to the ticket instead login to MSI website and finding the support ticket)
- Politely request that you can change the Fan by yourself so can MSI ship the Fan to you (this approach is up to you but politeness is the key)
- You will receive a reply to contact parts and accessories department (number will be provided in reply) OR to contact an individual to discuss the matter further (email will be provided) (this process may change in future).
- If you get a number, call that number and provide them Ticket Reference Number and discuss the matter...
- If you get an email address, just send an email to that address mentioning about the Fan issue and Ticket Reference Number...wait a day or 2 and you will get a reply...either continue with email or call that person directly (I suggest email)...
Proof that if you do everything by the book...

Interesting, but makes sense. It must be the values in the ip tables within the bios (UEFI) itself that causes it to bump the idle revs after a certain point.hmscott, Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Just disable fast shutdown/boot and you will never see it again... Better: disable hibernation at all.

Shehary, with the new fans in have you noticed if they are quieter?

I noticed while MSI had my laptop they updated the EC to 108, which isn't listed for the 6RE on the website. I haven't heard any more cpu fan moaning either.
-
Very nice! I just installed my replacement fan On Sunday. And I got my Intel 8265 installed as well. No more dropped wifi!
-
Nice! Maybe I should update mine too. I was worried it would bring back the fan noise that 107 had.

New Geforce drivers to play with 378.66.. includes game ready optimizations and bug fixes. -
I'm not sure if it is 108 or something they did when they had it taken apart to put in the ram. I also noticed they didn't fix the bezel. The left side is fixed, but the lower right is back the way it was when I first sent it in. I give up. I don't even care anymore. Well I do care. Maybe I'll try to fix it someday.hmscott likes this.

That's why I standardize on a wired and a wireless keyboard, keep one at work and at home, and a wireless one in the bag to carry with me.
That way I don't need to keep switching between different keyboards.
Plus, I used to go through lots of laptop keyboards at ~$100 each, after I started using external keyboards I haven't needed to replace a single one.
It also keeps the keyboard clean and free of human drippings, improving resale value.

Thanks, I'll look for it. I'm not sure anymore it can be fixed, at least this monitor. I've thought about filing another ticket and asking for a whole new display, I just hate to send it in and be without it again. I've spent $160 shipping costs for 2 RMA's on this thing. What would be the best tape to use? I've read 3M 2-sided automotive tape is good.
-
Thank you!
-
So it doesn't even use 2-sided tape? GenTechPC told me that's what held it on. According to the video it is tabs?

I don't know, I just removed the top portion to connect my webcam which wasn't firmly connectedAtma likes this. -
No, It does contain 2 sided tape on sides, I just checked, following the video, its easy to open the bezel from top, hinges and click, click, click and top side unlocked but both left and right side of bezel has black tape stick with screen (not sure about bottom side)....I close the bezel right away because I don't have 2 sided tape and I doubt I can get it from local market....
tape is black color and 2 sided that I can confirm you....

You should definitely read the thread, this is one hell of a recommended laptop
Feel free to read my review if it serves for anything.

To the guys who have got replacement fans I take it that the chirping/mechanical noises has stopped and the new fans are now exhibiting just a nice whoosh of air?
I'm still awaiting my fans being shipped from China as European service centre doesn't stock the fans.
According to the support staff my video isn't enough proof to show the defective fans, here in Europe/UK we have to pay for the fans.

I haven't read your post before about this but how did your fan broke? Is it because of pushing it too much? -
I have no problem with my laptop fans...I helped a friend to get the fan (he has noise from CPU fan only and now I have to guide him how to change it...
) and re-posted the getting fan process from MSI with pictures....
what you mean pushing too much....? -
HardCoreGamer4Life Notebook Evangelist
Pushing it too much like always using cooler boost or always making it run in the highest RPM? Was it because of that or was it already defective at the beginning? I want to know if using the cooler boost all the time while gaming would break the fan prematurely. -
My friend had the cpu fan noise issue out of the box....has nothing to do with cooler boost option
you can use cooler boost option while gaming, I also use it while gaming depend if GPU temp going above 85 otherwise Advance fan curve setting will keep both CPU / GPU cool if set properly....
After gaming I always use cooler boost option to drop the temps of both CPU / GPU....once below 40 (my idle temps are 37) switch it to Auto and back to work or shut down the laptop...never shutdown the laptop with higher temps e.g above 60....
You can use Cooler Boost option without any worries, its purpose is to cool the CPU / GPU and no harms can come if fans running at high RPM constantly..In 5 months I never have any problem with fans....DukeCLR and HardCoreGamer4Life like this. -

Thanks for the clearing that up. Thank you also for the advice, I'll keep those things in mind. Got another questio though. How often do you clean/maintain both your laptop's exterior, interior and your system? How do you clean the exterior specifically the bottom air intake of the cooler and exhausts at the sides and back, and the interior specifically the fans or anything that needs cleaning/maintaining? Thanks!Shehary likes this. -
In 5 months, I cleaned it only once, its easy to clean, bottom panel can be removed easily....5 screws total...pull it gently and it comes off.....both Fans, can be removed without removing any other hardware / Heaksink (GPU fan has 3 and CPU fan has 2 screw and need to be careful when removing the fan) ...once fan removed you can clean the vents...fans...laptop bottom panel and put everything back...I use brush (normal soft paint brush) only to remove dust...I never cleaned the fans...both fans have very very very thin layer of dust....at this point useless to disassemble and clean them...may be after 5 or 6 months.....DukeCLR and HardCoreGamer4Life like this.

Thank you so much! -
Some more snapshots from BIOS menu....interesting....you can set offset value....also I think I found the reason why this laptop is hybrid and take power from battery too under heavy load and you can control that too....sad no option for GPU performance.....

Well, for the time being these are a couple of benches at 4.3ghz and GPU at +245/+350
Cinebench R15 (single/multi) 186cb / 934cb
Firestrike 18948
I can do at most, for the time being 4.4ghz, but it runs too hot, and draws 110w because i need +200mv and the ambient temps are not on my favor. I will try on winter!hmscott, Papusan, ThePerfectStorm and 1 other person like this. -

Awesome scores! What are your GPU temps at +245/+350 ?
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalkhmscott likes this. -
Since I was using turbo fan, my max temp was 67 celsius. My cpu reached 90 though. Such high overvolt and consumption make a large difference in temps.
For comparison, my usual temps for the cpu are 70.
My GPU didnt even feel temp hahah.

67C! In my old Sager, towards the end of its life it would IDLE at 69C.

If you want go for highest possible numbers, skip the single thread test and rather go for multi threaded tests in a row. Your hardware will probably be hotter but bigger chances to get the numbers you search for
Haven't tested with 4.3 or 4.4GHz, but here is @4.5GHz
Will test with 4.3 and 4.4GHz later so you can have a pointing stick

I've read that MSI BurnRecovery only will restore the system back to the initial status of original manufacturer’s default settings. However, the tool can’t backup any system setting or software which was made by users. If this is true, what can I use to make a backup of the system that I'm am already fine with (with the latest version of Windows 10 and with all the apps currently installed in my system) and not back to the original default settings? Thanks!
