I was at that GX660 party. Damnit those orange glowing lights were hideous, but man I loved that laptop. When I sold it, it had been through man upgrades. Went from something like a 768p screen to a 1080p screen, a 5870m to a 6990m to a 7970m. The CPU was upgraded a few times too from an i5 430m? to a 740qm to a 920XM. It never skipped a beat and was a very reliable machine. I sold it on here and as far as I know it still rocking those boss speakers somewhere. Been MSI loyal since.

lol! believe it or not I just tested it right now...
Computer completely shut down.
Press and hold the power button.
Computer will turn on.
Still holding the power button.
Computer will shut down.
Release and turn it on again.
Computer will reboot maybe 3-4 times or so.
Then MSI splash screen will pop up.
Hit delete to go to BIOS.
Default values up.
Just tested it and now I have to go back and redo my settings lol...hmscott, Spartan@HIDevolution, Papusan and 2 others like this. -
Hi,
I notice some stuttering while scrolling down on Word 2016. Its a little slow going down on the pages of a document. What can be causing this?
Anyone notice the same? This only happens on battery mode, When it is connect to power supply everything is smooth in Word while scrolling down and up pagesLast edited: Feb 16, 2017 -
You can check out all the differences between what your settings are on battery vs AC in the power settings. You could try to set up a profile in Dragon Center to keep your CPU a little faster when on battery at the cost of reduced battery life. I don't use mine unplugged very much so that's all I got.Atma likes this.

Sorry for all the questions of a newbie like me on the MSI GT7VR 7RE but here goes two more:
1 - It is possible to control de brightness of the logo light and the 2 reds bars on the laptop cover? In daylight almost it is not possible to see that they are on
2 - How can the keyboard leds be turn off when my display goes off? I disabled the hibernation / sleep option. I dont want to activate the sleep option.Atma likes this. -
- no such option to control 2 red bars and logo light
- no such option to turn off the lights of KB if sleep mode not activated.

Thanks Shehary!!
There is similar option in the Led Wizard on Dragon Center. Shall I enable that in both apps? And this only works on sleep mode? If I disable sleep mode and only activate display off in power setting should this work also? -
Highly suggest not to use Led Wizard, it's buggy instead use Steelseries Engine III (you can find the link in Dragon Center > App portal) settings to set keyboard options / light effects etc etc....
Yes it only works in sleep mode.
No if you turn off only display (either using SCM App or from keyboard shortcut Fn+F3 or using any other option) the keyboard light remains On.

Figures they do this after I gave up and bought an Intel 8265. Oh well! Killer needs to figure their drivers out because to my knowledge Intel never had this problem to begin with anyway.Atma likes this.

Been using it for 2 years on 4 diff. laptops. this thing is solid as a rock! the handles are very sturdy and can take any weight and won't break
It is very durable, the handles are sturdy despite the heavy weight of the laptop with the charger, it doesn't feel like the handles are going to break if you hold it from only one of them. I have walked in light rain as well while having the backpack on and the laptop wasn't wet so that's another plus point.
Speaking of storage, you can store your entire room in there (not literally) but you have so many pockets / sections it's super roomy and convenient.
PS: It costs an arm and a leg but hey, it's the best out there and this beast deserves nothing but the best.
email [email protected] , they can get it for youhmscott, DukeCLR and Killswitch73 like this. -
I love mine, it is the best built bag I have used, it holds all the stuff I need for work plus my mobile gaming gear, I can also get a couple of liters at the duty free and stuff it in. I had an issue where an internal pocket ripped and they stood by their product and replaced it rapidly.

Black screen issue because of Ram OC can be resolved easily just by removing ram sticks e.g I have 4 sticks and while trying to OC Ram, changing its Latency, I end up on black screen, removed 2 rams, boot up the laptop BIOS detected change in Ram and Auto reset it to default settings....but of course if you have only 2 sticks under the keyboard then you are stuck and resetting BIOS is only option.DukeCLR and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

nope
disable Intel SW Guards Extension to fix mouse stuttering / lag. it's a useless feature anyway -
may be 6RF / 6RE owners doesn't have some options which 7RF / 7RE owners have....different BIOS and different Chipset....

I don't recommend you to spread this though bro. These hidden options can do some serious damage to the system if one doesn't know what he's doing. I mean really serious irreversable damage.Shehary likes this. -
Already did, don't have it anymore....
....personally I haven't done any changes.....though I checked all options in detail....

Whats the story behind the MSI power adaper, the connector that is? "Everyone else is using something that can easily be plugged in 360 degrees and doesn't fall out, lets do something different"? Or did they get a great deal on old S-Video connectors from a VCR company gone bust?

Hi Phoenix,
I have also a 7820HK like you and was playing in the BIOS to get a stable OC @ 4.2 Ghz as I think, from your signature, you have too. I used the following parameters in the BIOS:
Adjust CPU Ratio => 42
Adjust Ring Ratio => 36
VR Current Limit => 800
Power Limit 1 => 230
Power Limit 2 => 230
System Agent VR Settings => VR Config Enable => Enabled
Core/IA VR Settngs => VR Config Enable => Enabled
Can you share your configs?
WIth this I finally could get a stable 4.2ghz on AIDA64 Extreme in Stability Testing without the CPU throttling to 3.6 - 3.7Ghz
Thanks!hmscott likes this. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
don't ever touch the ring ratio. only increases heat with no noticeable performance benefit
In the BIOS, set the VR Current Limit to 400
Set the power limit 1 and 2 from 200 to 230
set all multipliers to 42
now, go into windows, launch Intel XTU, and set the CPU voltage offset to -100mVhmscott likes this. -
I edited my post because I didnt finish and hit the send button accidentaly. Can you check my previous post again? Regarding the Ring ration. The default is 36? I dont remember
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
all is fine, except you don't need a 200A IA Current limit, 100A is enough.
so 400/10 = 100A
set the value down from 800 to 400 in the BIOS and ensure the same value is also in XTU if it didn't pick it up from the BIOS -
Thanks. And regarding System Agent Current Limit, should I also put 400? If not, what is the default value?
Also for the ring ratio can you please tell me if 36 is the default ratio?
Thanks again! -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
can you show me a screenshot of what you mean? I'm lost
yes 36 is the default ring ratio
also set the base clock frequency to 10035, when you save and exit, that will show you 10033 so the motherboard FSB would run @ 100.33 MHz which would result in your clock speeds sticking at a perfect 4200 MHz rather than 4198MHz or so.........just to cure our perfection OCDShehary likes this. -
The 10035 shows 100,33Mhz in XTU reference clock but the final clock is 4,214 and not 4,200
In XTU I cant see the 400. I only see 100A. It is the same, right? 400/4 = 100A, right?
The other VR Limit option that I was telling you is for the system agent. The Cache iccMax. I also put 400 = 100A in XTU? Should I do it to like this or should I put the default value that I now dont remember what it was? -

you confused the living heck out of me.....
here you go:

I mean 36x is low for Ring ratio. 6 bin under core clocks is much. You should at least manage 39/40x without heat problems. Increase it to 40x and try it in Cinbench and compare with your older score
-
Thanks very much. Now its like your config. Also my CPU temps are much better now. Max 85 in one of the cores. My VR Limite to 800 and also the offet that wasnt -100, was putting my CPU to 9x degrees in AIDA64 stability testing. Thanks so much for all your help!!!
-
Going to test with 36x and 40x for ring ratio (CACHE) and will let you know the results in Cinebench 15 and also about the temps. THanks!!!Papusan likes this.

Managed to get my screen back on, through luck.
Since I knew I was in Windows, I pressed the GPU switch and clicked around until I managed to hit the okay to reboot. Voila, there is the MSI logo.
Now, how do I install an Nvidia driver while in UMA mode? It tells me no hardware detected. -
2 Shehary: Please send me the key combo for unlock BIOS options. I have notebook MSI GT73VR 6RE Titan.

install SCM, then press the dedicated GPU button to switch first, it's right under the power button -
I was trying to OC my laptop and then I decided to clean the intel XTU to factory defaults. after I reset the laptop, the screen doesn't turn on. I can hear the fans running and the power on light is on. What should I do?

can you press the EC reset button under the laptop then try powering it up again
if that doesn't work, try this trick to load setup defaults without having to remove the CMOS battery:
Computer completely shut down.
Press and hold the power button.
Computer will turn on.
Still holding the power button.
Computer will shut down.
Release and turn it on again.
Computer will reboot maybe 3-4 times or so.
Then MSI splash screen will pop up.
Hit delete to go to BIOS.
Default values up. -

the EC reset button or the 2nd trick did the job? -
The 2nd trick did it. I was teaching my brother how to overclock the laptop and maybe I did something wrong and the laptop didn't want to turn on. After the trick, everything looks good. I'm going the give him this laptop because I bought the GTX 1080/6820HK model for a great price. I'll received it on Monday.Atma and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

For future reference when the MSI GT73VR 6RF that I ordered arrives, can I overclock the i7 6820hk cpu to 4.1-4.2 ghz just by setting all the multipliers to x41 or x42 in the bios with the power limits increased from 200 to 230?
Do I need to set the VR Limit to any value like 400 with @Phoenix 's config?
Also where can I find the option to set the CPU's IA current limit? Can I set it to 100A? Or it's only for the i7 7820hk?
Do I need to have an undervolt if I were to do this? What undervolt would be stable with a 4.1ghz or 4.2ghz cpu? Thank you so much! -
Hi,
I have a 7820HK and I think that should be very similar for your CPU the OC settings. My OC settings are stable and without any throttling and the settings are for 4.2 Ghz OC
Adjust CPU Ratio => 42
Adjust Ring Ratio => 40
CPU Core Voltage offset => 100 (you need to change it after in Windows using Intel XTU for -100. This is because in the BIOS you cant put negative numbers)
VR Current Limit => 400
Power Limit 1 => 230
Power Limit 2 => 230 -
If max temp reached 98C, I will say your processor is into throttling territory and bench scores will decrease
And 98C max temp in Cinbench with @4.2GHz and 40x cashe is terrible
Time for re-paste

Are there any skins to get for the GT73? Would need it to lool like something a bit more boring if it is to follow me into the "business war zone". A nasty world where there are no respawns and the boss fights are brutal
Sent from my ASUS_A001 using Tapatalk -
That happened because when I change to Ring Ration of 40x as advise by you in the BIOS I forget to change the Voltage offset to -100 in XTU. So in BIOS was +100. That's why the temp was so high. After changing in XTU to -100 and with 40x of Ring Ration the CineBench 3D 15 max temp reach was around 75
