Is it realistic to expect the 1080 Ti to come to the GT73VR? And if it does, will the GT73VR be able to cool it? And if it does, when?

If you had a great deal on the 6820K then go for it, for me, I would spend the little extra on the newest one but in the end either will do any task you throw at it very well.hmscott, HardCoreGamer4Life, ThePerfectStorm and 1 other person like this. -
If there isn't a lot of price difference, I would go with the 7820 just for the better resale value if nothing else. If you can get the 6820 for a great deal and money is tight, there is certainly nothing wrong with it. Also, if you plan to keep the laptop for several years, even the 7820 will be generations behind the then current CPU. It's nice to have the latest and greatest, but it's nice to have an excellent machine and money still in the bank too.hmscott, HardCoreGamer4Life, iunlock and 2 others like this.

Well, it depends really on how you're gonna use it. When I bought the 6RF over the 7RF they were $400 apart with the same specs on them. I could've bought the 7RF without the 960 EVO ssd's and some upgrades I made but I don't think that would suit me well since I know I would need those ssds more than I would need that extra clock speed. I don't think the 300 Mhz additional clock speed when overclocking won't make a diffence that much specially when my sole purpose is to only to play games (some benchmarks just for the heck of it lol
).
Even if I opted for the 7820HK, I know I would never run it @4.3-4.5Ghz all the time since I know that it's only for benchmarks due to it becoming too hot. And I know that by doing it, I would just shorten the life of my laptop specially when I really don't know what I'm doing (the 6RF will be my first gaming laptop since I'm a really hardcore desktop guy
). 4-4.1Ghz is more than enough for the games I want to play and the 6820HK can handle it with ease. So what I'm trying to say is it really depends on what you want out of it and if you have enough dough for it, and I got mine so that I still have room (additional $400 to go even wilder) to build a really good desktop when they'll release them Cannon Lake CPUs and them Volta or them Vega GPUs whichever is better.

Thanks for the advice! And BTW, Vega releases this year and is based on 14nm while Volta releases next year and is based on the 10nm process. So Volta will outperform Vega significantly, but AMD's reply to Volta is said to be (no evidence besides roadmaps they show when unveiling new architecture) Navi (7nm).

Yeah but still on the rumor side. I'll wait for the releases first, and even then they'll unveil an even newer set of products. But I'm more inclined to the Volta than the Vega; the Navi is still far off and even then Nvidia will have their own answer for it too. Instead of always waiting for the next best thing, buy the latest GPU that suits you best and enjoy playing games with it or whatever you want to do with it.hmscott, DukeCLR and ThePerfectStorm like this. -

Agreed. For me, I'm willing to wait till the 10th for PAX to see if the GT73VR will get the 1080Ti, and if it does and my money has come through, buy it. Otherwise, I'll pick up the 1080 version (assuming that the money comes through).

Hey mate,
how did you to enable the native NVMe Support? i have two toshibas in raid 0 or did i Need some of the nvme ssd's with Driver Support like Samsung?
thanks,
jpLast edited: Mar 1, 2017 -
The 1080TI ?? I already have the 1080 with 7820, the temprature is not so bad andI decided to use a cooling panel to decrease the temperature about 3-5 degree. So how can cool the Ti model!!! and what will happen to the battery ??
-
If you have 2 nvme drives it should be enabled. I'm not sure what @Phoenix is using. I'd be interested to know what the native support is?
-
I get the message no nvme device found. that is the reason why i ask.

Hey guys!
Is it normal to have a scraping sound from the CPU fan? On some fan speeds I can hear it when sitting in front of the computer and always when I am behind it.
Is the fan defect?DukeCLR likes this. -
I'm already using 7RF vBIOS on 6RF GTX1080....will give this one a try too....DukeCLR likes this.
-
This has been addressed many times, yes the fan is defected and for solution either send the laptop for RMA or ask MSI for a fan and replace it by yourself, for more detail...find my post(s) in this thread.....DukeCLR likes this.
-
-
Is this a common issue? Should I try for a replacement or just look at another computer?
Br J -
There you go....I don't see any change as compare to last vbios of 7RF GTX 1080...will see how it will perform in games.....
old vbios vs new vbios

yes it's a common issue with this laptop and you should try for replacement.....it's easy....if you ask for fan from MSI...you will get the fan in 30 days...changing fan is also easy as 1 2 3......DukeCLR likes this.
-
I wouldn't dump the whole rig just for the fan but iy needs to be fixed. If you don't wan to mess with installing a new fan then return the laptop to the vendor if you still can, the RMA process is lengthy through MSI It's a great machine but the QC on the fans is sub par.
-
Hi,
Could anyone recommend a decent sleeve for this laptop?

But wouldnt I void warranty if I try to replace fan myself?
-
Hi Shehary,
I did some benchmarks with 3dmark, and in Firestrike the score went down a little. And all with the same settings and same OC

I was playing crysis 3 and it crashed with message "program stop working"......where old vbios never had a problem.....I will give this new vbios one more day and if encounter another error, will revert back to old vbios.....DukeCLR likes this.

I've updated the VBIOS (86.04.56.00.3A) aswell on my GT73VR 6RE. (GTX1070).
No problems so far! -

still no GOP support in this VBIOS, the UEFI checkbox in GPU-Z is still unchecked

I bought the GT73VR 7RF a few days ago. My windows key doesn't work from time to time. The first ten minutes after switching on the laptop it works fine, but after that its a dead key. I have no idea what is going on. If any of you know a solution to this please tell
-
MSI didn't even release the vbios update for 6RE or 6RF....
Second time, Crysis 3 crashed....."Program Stopped working"....I nearly completed the game and with new vbios game crashed twice..both times game crashed within 10 to 15 mins of playing.....time to revert back to old vbios......Atma likes this. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
but wouldn't the VBIOS be the same and work on other models as well? it's the same video card after all right?Atma likes this. -
Did you reinstall the driver with DDU uninstall of old one after vbios update ?Atma likes this.
-
I did what was suggested in document
Download OEM nVidia Driver > installed it > disable Internet so windows not able to update the drivers > flashed vbios > installed latest drivers from nvidia website
Cryisis 3 crashed twice
Revert back to old vbios..no driver installation or re-installation.....played same crysis 3 stage again....no crash..stage completed....I'm good with old vbios.....
.Atma likes this. -
yes it's the same card but not the same system and both 6RF and 7RF have different BIOS and EC firmware, chipset....updating vbios is on user risk and I'm not sure this even covered in warranty.....
and it's not necessary if new vbios not performing good on 6RF it will also not perform good on 7RF....Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
And how can I go back to the previous VBIOS? I didnt make a backup of my previous
-
do you know the old vbios version...?
-
No
I just went it ahead an upgrade it. I should had made a backup with GPU-Z. Stupid me
-
check PM...
-
I had the same problem 2 months ago. I think its something related to MSI Dragon Gaming Center that blocks the Windows key when gaming. I didn't find a solution so I reset the laptop to factory settings and it has been working fine.
-
Shehary,
One question, the 7RE VBIOS is the same as 7RF VBIOS? This is because I have a 1070. -
No No...my bad...I thought you have GTX 1080....do not flash that file....
-
OK OK. Thanks anyway
-
You can ask MSI via support and they will provide you old vbios....or ask any user who has 7RE model to give you the vbios.....ravenrocha likes this.
-
Any one with a GT73VR 7RF (GTX 1070) can send me via PM the original VBIOS that comes with the laptop? I would be much appreciated. Just updated mine to last version that came today on MSI site and the benchmarks scores in 3dmark dropped.
THANKS!Shehary likes this. -
You are right, there is a setting to enable or disable the Windows key, it's on bottom left of the tab System Tuner.
-
But the new BIOS is out for 7RE too. go go
-
a new VBIOS is out for 7RF: https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT73VR-7RF-Titan-Pro.html#down-firmware (the first one)
anyone knows what the VBIOS is doing? what the firmware is doing? and what is the deference between them and BIOS ?
thank you
