Actually XTU (TS?) will stop OC'ing after *any* crash, no matter the reason, because it can't tell what caused the crash.![]()
If you are getting crashes out of the blue, the first thing you do is go to non-OC settings and run the app again to see if that fixes it - if you keep crashing, then try to recall what the last software / driver install you did was and regress it back to the previous version.
If the crashes stop happening when running stock settings, then turn on either CPU or GPU OC and test the app again - it might be CPU or GPU, but unlikely both![]()

Can I ask what's your old version of VBIOS here? I have the 86.04.2B.00.1B. Is this older than yous? Should I update this? Thanks man! -
Sorry, I meant the VBIOS. The new VBIOS version is the same as ine that I already have!!! but it published on Feb and i bought my laptop in January! !
Should I flash that VBIOS ?
Sent from my SM-N910H using Tapatalk -
`
Original vBios which came with 6RF is 86.04.2B.00.1B
vBios currently I'm using came with 7RF is 86.04.3B.00.07 (I got it from a member who had 7RF)
Current updated vBios which available on MSI website is 86.04.56.00.3C
yes you have older vBios you should update with latest vbios available on MSI website...it will give you more Pixel & texture filtrate, core / memory clocks....
First vBios vs Second vBios vs Third vBios

If the vBios version is same, flashing will only put your laptop on risk....no gain but lots of pain.

never flash same VBIOS or BIOS again. Like on my laptop, It already came with the latest BIOS even though that BIOS was just published on Feb 23rd, MSI obviously has them earlier so that's why you have the latest out of the box
ok I will PM you broLast edited by a moderator: Mar 5, 2017powerofviva and HardCoreGamer4Life like this. -

I thought you had problems with the latest VBIOS now on the MSI website? How can I download the VBIOS version that you're currently using (the 86.04.3B.00.07)? Thank you!
What app will you use to pm me bro?
I'm online now, check pm. Thanks again for helping me!

Not necessary you will have the problem too with latest vbios....I had problem with only one game...it's not enough to judge that the vBios is not good...only reason I'm reluctant to update it because there is no information or change log file which shows what latest vbios can do or fix or how it will improve performance....though If you want the vBios I'm currently using, @Phoenix has it too or PM me and I will share the link, it's not available on MSI website and never will be because it came with 7RF when it was lunched...

The VBIOS is on the MSI website:
https://www.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT73VR-7RF-Titan-Pro.html#down-firmware -
It's the latest one, @HardCoreGamer4Life asking for vBios (86.04.3B.00.07) which came with 7RF model when it was lunched it's not available on MSI website...
Small update..one of my friend brought his samsung laptop for repaste and I saw a 12 pins flex SATA cable, thought to give it a shot to check that will it work with GT73VR to add 2nd HDD and no luck, cable sit and fit properly but laptop refused to boot (I didn't connect the HDD, only plugged the SATA cable).....the SATA cable I tried
Hence proved, any random cable cannot be used no matter if it's 12 pins.....
Another thing proved that this laptop has some kind of protection and if any wrong hardware plugged in which may cause damage, laptop will not boot....Last edited by a moderator: Mar 5, 2017 -

the one I have is the one from the MSI website: 86.04.56.00.3C

Already sent you a pm man. Is there any special instruction as to how to install this VBIOS? Since it's for the 7RF and not the 6RF, is there a need to install in differently? Will it cause some instability due to it being for a different model? -
6RF or 7RF model doesn't matter as long as you have GTX 1080....it has been proved if you check both 6RF and 7RF MSI support page, you can see same vbios under firmware section for both models...so one model vbios can be used on other model.....PM replied with instruction...download nvflash > launch command prompt as administrator > go to nvflash directory > make sure you already copied rom file in nvflash directory and I think the command is nvflash64 --index=0 -6 romname.rom ...double check the command with @Phoenix ...make sure no external display connected when flashing....HardCoreGamer4Life and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

ok thanks, SO my 7RF already has the latest VBIOS by MSI. I will not flash it gain thanks >(

Thank you so much man!
My laptop is now fully a 100% @Phoenix tweaked!! Thank you so much brother for helping me with my laptop. I'll install games and more softwares for benchmarks to check the stability of my system. Can't really thank you enough bro. You got me to buy this beast and now you've helped me tame it. You really are the man!

Or try .105 for less aggressive and an advanced fan curve that isn't broke.
-
Yes I'm using the latest drivers.
does it matter which software I use to overclock. Anyways, the computer refuses to overclock with any software. The card is running in PCIE x16 v2.0,instead of v3.0(I checked in gpu-z), and gpu core clock is stuck at 1556Mhz and Gpu mem clock is stuck at 810Mhz. I tried msi afterburner too, but it didn't overclock with that too. I tried to make the card run in pcie x16 v3.0, but it refuses to do. I don't know why. -
-
Do you have .105 EC Firmware...?
Card is running in PCIE x16 v2.0,instead of v3.0 something new with GT73VR...no one ever reported such problem...MSI support is your best option....
No it doesn't matter unless you are not using 2 OC software which do same job side by side....if you have Dragon Center active and using After Burner too....Dragon center most probably will not let After Burner to OC the GPU.... -
Yes. It came on my 6RF with August build date. I posted a download link maybe 200 pages back.
-
I will search the thread but if the posted link is MSI support page...it will be useless now...I also have August built but mine came with .106
-
why is no-one answering my posts?
-
No MSI support is not garbage and this laptop doesn't have any big issue or problem out of the box...
-
I forgot to mention something. Yesterday I contacted nvidia and their agent told me to uninstall the drivers with ddu, and she gave me a link to download a driver. So I did and the gpu started running in pcie x16 v3.0. I tested out GTA 5 and got 90+fps on maxed out settings. Pretty great. After a few hours of gaming, the laptop suddenly decides to revert to pcie x16 v2.0, resulting in a sharf drop in fps. I went to the nvidia control panel and noticed that the driver was 378.77, which hasn't been released yet. The latest driver for gtx1080 is the 378.66, which was released on feb 14. Surprising. Anyways, right now I'm gonna run ddu and install the drivers with the link i was provided. If the problem appears again I dunno what to do. After paying $2900, I'm very dissapointed.
Probably flashing the bios and vbios will work. Will that void the warranty? Or maybe I should try a clean reinstall of windows
In my case, it does.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 5, 2017 -

@Addicted2GamZz
I've only seen problem after the other from people who bought laptops from Scan UK (latest one: P670hs-g owner)
Buy it from HIDevolution if you want a laptop that works great out of the box. They do a marvelous job in their thermal paste methods. My laptop and @HardCoreGamer4Life 's laptop max out @ 80 C during an AIDA64 Extreme Stress test and his laptop is overclocked to 4.1 GHz on all cores and mine is overclocked to 4.2 GHz (88C max temps for mine due to a higher overclock) on all cores so that should tell you something about the quality of the MSI laptops that are customized through HIDevolution.
If you are trying to go the cheaper route, you will only pay the price down the line and have to deal with RMAs and returns.
Remember, MSI laptops come standard with a 1 year global warranty which covers shipping costs both ways and an additional 1 year standard warranty (no shipping costs coverage) so that gives you even more peace of mind. Once you receive the laptop and register it with MSI then complete a brief survey, you get another 3 months extension to your warranty

you can build yours here:
Pick the model depending on the GPU / screen you want: http://www.hidevolution.com/catalogsearch/result/?a=all&q=gt73vrHardCoreGamer4Life and DukeCLR like this. -
if any laptop can keep cool from a UK non-custom website, i think it will be the GT73VR 7RF Titan Pro as it has lots of air vents, better cooling and the button to turn on the fans, so would it be a great laptop if i bought it from scan.co.uk?
-
No flashing BIOS / VBIOS / EC Firmware will not void warranty....better to restore laptop to factory default instead clean install....and start over.....
378.77 is hotfix drivers released by nVidia in late Feb.....
No manufacture provide support to run the game on higher FPS....you said that gpu was running in pcie x16 v2.0 and later after updating drivers gpu started running in pcie x16 v3.0...sound like driver issue not hardware issue and as you said updating drivers resolved the issue....I don't see a reason to blame MSI support for it....DukeCLR likes this. -
yeah the stock gt73vr 7rf has pretty great cooling, but like phoenix, I would recommend you get it from an online retailer like hidevolution/xotic pc/gentech pc. I got mine from xotic and i've got to admit, when it works properly, the temps are superb. But unfortunately, my laptop has been plagued with issues. I dunno if my laptop is a faulty piece. I still have to figure that outSpartan@HIDevolution likes this.

you don't seem to understand do you? did you even read my post? -
i never buy laptops from a US website, as i rather buy from UK, as it would cost a bit if i had to send it to US, if there is problems
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
again, you did not read my post well. I said, the MSI laptops comes standard with a 1 year global warranty which covers shipping costs both ways should anything go wrong.
Do not expect any answers from me after this message. Buy it from wherever you wish. -
I'm not blaming msi support. I never did. But the issue is that after a few hours, the gpu switches to v2.0. and then I've gotta run ddu, install the drivers again.
I probably mentioned before how terribly my laptop performed on 3DMARK TIme Spy benchmark. I'm uploading an image now. It got a graphic test 1 score of 12.05fps and graphic test 2 score of 10.49. Overall score is 2014. Compare it online and I saw that a 970M laptop got 9000 something. like how is that possible. even if the gpu was running in pcie x16 v2.0, this is horrible performance. Phoenix, anyone knows what is causes this? Any help will be hugely appreciated. -
i apologize, if the laptop doesn't have good cooling, it's the manufacter to blame, not the website who sells the computer
-
the laptop has excellent cooling. however, if you brought it from an online retailer, you could apply diamond thermal paste or a superior quality thermal paste, and that would help bring the temps down by 4-5 degrees or more compared to the stock paste. this will reduce the load on the fans, increasing the life of the fans and the laptop as a whole. also, you will get better performance from your cpu and gpu, as cooler temps mean better performance.
-
In my opinion for the price, the best source for this laptop:
US residents: HIDEvolution - great service, great warranty support and cool MSI goodies
EU residents: Scan UK - great MSI goodies, no pixel warranty and they pay for shipping back (in case of warranty) for UK customers. Scan gives 2 years of MSI warranty
Amazon UK - no MSI goodies, Amazon offers 2 years of Amazon warranty for ALL EU customers. Meaning if you have ANY problem (even if it is just 1 dead pixel on the screen) you can send it back for a repair. If repair option is not available Amazon will send a new laptop or if the laptop is not in stock anymore you get a full refund. You have to pay for shipping back, however if you scan and send them the receipt of the shipping fee, Amazon will refund the shipping fee (in other words Amazon will pay for shipping fee).
As an EU resident I think Amazon UK offers the best service/price. Goodies that Scan offer are really nice (backpack, headphones, pluss keychain), however if I have warranty problems it will be easier and much cheaper to handle it with Amazon.
As for Scan if you order from there and have a defect screen with 1-2 dead pixels, cross your fingers because it is not 100% that Scan will consider that as a defect (they follow standard ISO policy which allows up to 3 dead pixels)
And if you are an US resident go with HID, you will not be disappointed.
This is just my 2 cents.Last edited: Mar 5, 2017Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
The information you provide is not enough to reach any conclusion what causing the problem, so what I can suggest is....
Restore laptop to factory setting....there is a manual came with laptop how to make restore disk and how to restore laptop to factory setting....
keep all benchmark tools on a disk......
Once restore done...do not connect your laptop to internet.....otherwise windows will run it's update.....install benchmark tools and run benchmarks....if the result remain same as like snapshot....contact your re seller or MSI and ask for support...most probably you have faulty GPU...if result scores are okey...means you had some software installed which was causing the problem....Papusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
thanks, but it wouldn't be bad if i bought it from a online retailer e.g scan.co.uk, saveonlaptops.co.uk or ebuyer.com? would it?
-
who said that applying ICD will bring the temps down to 4 to 5 degree as compare to stock TIM....?Blue Hazard likes this.

Read what I wrote a few posts above.

oh right, sorry didn't see your post, i'll check it out now, it wouldn't matter where i bought it in UK
i've read the post now, thanks, how good is scan.co.uk's warranty and customer service? are they good?
i might get it from scan.co.uk as they are a well known computer/laptop retailer and you are getting a free MSI bundle with the laptopLast edited by a moderator: Mar 5, 2017 -
Why do you write 2 (or 3) sentences in 2 posts?
Yea, Scan is good, but Amazon is better.
Up to you to decide. You take the risk of defected screen to get free MSI goodies or you instead play it safer and go with the bigger company with better warranty service.
@Phoenix: Mind if I steal the MSI logo from your signature and put it in mine too?
-
i meant to post it in the same comment but totally forgot, if something went wrong(e.g defected screen, not working, etc.) would scan repair it as long as the laptop is under warranty?
