I don't even think MSI Gt75 will utilize or allow more than a single 330W psu. In the older days you could trick the firmware (with RWEverything) to accept 2 bricks beacuse they offered Sli in some Msi laptops. This is food for the Msi jockey bro @Falkentyne

But single 330W should be plenty anyway (they are good for +400w).

Well the main reason I asked my question in the first place was because Jarrod'sTech had the same model that my friend is looking into (8950hk and 200 watt 1080) and B.O.A.T had the variant with a lower wattage 2080, yet they both got two 230w PSU's in the box.

It seems you are correct https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-G...-GTX-1080-Full-HD-Laptop-Review.303182.0.html

But as I said in my post above, the 330W can handle 400W. There is even some run desktop cards Cpu and 1080 200w card in the Clevo LGA machines on single 330w brick.

You can't do this on this laptop.

The firmware allows up to 660W (SLI configuration, 2x330W PSU with dongle), however this RELIES on the second MXM port being populated. If the second MXM slot is not activated, you can't get this power draw. And you can't enable the port in the unlocked (Left Alt, Right Control, Right Shift, F2) hidden BIOS menus either, as without it being electrically connected, it will still say "not installed" even if you try to enable it.

BTW do yourself a favor and unlock the BIOS menus, go to System Agent, Peg root Port and change root port 1 (or whatever the very first port is) from Auto to "Enabled".
This prevents bizarre black screen (no video) issues when certain BIOS settings are changed, most notably setting Spread Spectrum to 0% for the 100.0 BCLK rather than 99.80. This caused more than a small number of RMA's on the GT73VR when people encountered this bug, before I found this workaround.

What you can do is remove the battery, change the ID in EC RAM register 31 to "09", (this tells the laptop that the battery is installed even if it isn't installed), and then a register in another close by location which I don't remember anymore. You'll have to do a search.
I "FAINTLY" think it was register 42 to "64" (100 decimal) which is the battery charge level, which is 00 with the battery removed (This disables NOS and causes the CPU to throttle if power draw exceeds 60% of max rating--which is the same thing that happens if the battery charge level is below 30% normally), which will "Re-enable" NOS and allow full power, as the system won't be able to pull power from a missing battery, so it will use the AC.

I don't know what happens if you exceed 330W after doing these two changes. Either the system will throttle the CPU via EC enforced power limit (regardless of overrides) or it will go up to the limit of the Delta PSU (which according to Papusan and some others can pull about 380W or so before it shuts off).

I confirm having the 8750H and gtx 1080 it is enough. Max I measured once was a draw of 240W with doom from 2016, never checked for other types of loads.

for me it was always calculated this way
CPU power / GPU power / SYSTEM 30W - total

    230W system GT75 7re
PSU MAX power + 35W -shutdown or extreme fast discharge battery + works recharging
,.,.or -35W from PSU ""195W"" starts discharge/recharge battery + works recharging

    or
90-100./. battery level - default battery protection "89./. starts recharge"

external monitoring .,,.not see battery power ? "around 25-35W"
    PSU + battery - limit

    edit
static power limit - around 70./. battery level + AC ,..,or CPU drops in full load "my gt75 7re + OC"

Hey all its been a while!

I am trying to do some tweaking on MSI Afterburner but it seems that the power limit and temp limit are greyed out? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hello, is there anyone who can help me with something?

I have MSI Dragon Center. It was working normally and I could change cpu speed between Sports and Eco

A few days ago, I changed it to Eco and closed the app. When I tried to later start it, it kept making a Windows popup dialogue asking if I wanted to allow the app to make changes to my computer

I haven't changed any hardware, software or Windows settings recently, and I haven't updated the app either. Why is it all of a sudden asking me if I want to let it make changes to my computer?

What changes does it want to make?

Why has this happened all of a sudden?

or remove UAC fully "no need this ****" :D

    ECO - 1.5GHZ lock !!

the application as such needs this permission "changes power setting / cpu limit / read some data from windows monitoring "
,.,.,.DC --also changes your bios setup ! "extreme OC + DC - incompatible"
or GPU OC - from AF "not well compatible"

need only voltage curve ,.,.limit under TDP + max OC offset "memory no need - drawing all power ""faster power limit""
GPU on notebook - FPS LIMITER + this OC and voltage limit

Why did this sudden need for UAC happen?

I didn't change anything with the software, hardware or Windows, and I've used Dragon Center hundreds of times without it asking for UAC

    Why now?

Has a virus infected the app? Is that why the UAC is turning on now?

    file date 5 July 2017

I don't use Windows Store and that isn't where my Dragon Center comes from

Something strange happened when I clicked on 'Yes' for UAC

    The app didn't start

I clicked on the app shortcut again, and this time it started, but it had lost all its previous settings and was acting like it had just been new installed

It gave me an introduction to the app, which only happens for a new install

Why has this happened? The app hasn't updated, the file date is still 2017

    latest

    but create restore point !
best is clean installation ! "advanced"

    edit ,..or win update
and DC create new appdata / programdata "hidden folders !"

Is it possible to overclock the 8850H past +400 on 6 cores (4.4 maximum)? I see the options in the unlocked BIOS, but I don't want to actually set the thing to boot at 4.5GHz all-core and start thermal throttling immediately, I just want to unlock the multipliers for use in Intel XTU.

Second question: Has anyone overclocked their memory on this laptop? The options in the unlocked BIOS seem to indicate it can support up to DDR4-3200 or even beyond with overclocking. I'm still using the stock Samsung DDR4-2667 (with some horrendous cas 19 timings) on the motherboard underside plus an identical module up front for dual channel.

I was thinking of just trying to overclock that stock memory, but realized I have no idea how to reset the CMOS on this thing, so I'd be **** out of luck if it wouldn't boot. Is there a way to reset CMOS reliably so I can tinker with memory overclock? And has anyone successfully run the stock Samsung RAM at something faster than DDR4-2667?

What if you put in two dual channel DIMMs in the bottom available slots, then disabled the DIMM under the motherboard via the BIOS? Would that work? The two available slots are in both channels, so it should be dual channel, no?

I tried it and it does not work. I tried two Samsung 16GB 3200MHz DIMMs on the bottom slots and tried disabling Channel A, Slot 0 (and then both Channels, Slot 0) and it wouldn't post. It would post with all three in there in dual channel, but wouldn't go over 2933MHz.

Disabling Slot 0 (both slots under the motherboard are Slot 0) works with just one stick in the second channel's Slot 1. Then it posts fine and Windows confirms it's one DIMM in Single Channel.

It *should* work, but it doesn't for whatever reason.

eGPU might work. Turns out the one I got (Zotac Amp Box) had a bad GPU! So I'm going to try an RMA and get a working one and I'll report back if that works successfully. I think it should since the enclosure worked.

    8850H + OC
?? is locked ?? possitible only remove EDP limit / power limit " VR - EDP limit ,,.IMON - FAKE power"
but still only oem RATIO binds or need FSB OC - not recommended !

RAM OC ? no problem ,.,.,.SA offset from 1.05V or voltage "+100mV" -2933 for dual rank memory / or 3200mhz or more for single rank"
or depends on the ram configuration "less modules is better / timings / modules quality" / OC SKILL - EXAMPLE

    my oem RAM **** - 2400mhz KINGSTOM "7TH"- 2933mhz-3000mhz OK
    but I use my own "aggressive" 18-20-20-45 // 2800mhz

for best OC - good SA RAM TRAINING + OC TAB - fast/easy and looks like XMP - 18-20-20-45 - 2800mhz "my older gt75 7re"

AUTO TUNE - enable SA TRAINING "in defaults for CUSTOM PROFILE"
set CUSTOM PROFILE for RAM - OC TAB
and set only TARGET "FSB + RAM RATIO + RAM CLOCK "266mhz"
    100x11x 133x2 - 2933mhz
all others - 0 or AUTO

    "or 2800mhz - 100x10x133x2 + enabled ODD ratio"

,.,save this + need 3x longer boot - new profile ,.,.,.boot loop - CMOS RESET
for OC - better SA offset "positive" or from XMP -1.35V for ram "for most models is this locked"

cmos reset ? - 30-45S power button when machine run -- full reset !
for ram OC + black screen - need this !

RAM modules/position / multichannel - same ram anywhere "no problem"

EGPU ? works ,.,.but TB3 / oem setting / FW is **** .,.,and custom setup/flash i risk - compatibility is random

you should only need the OC tab "advanced menu ADMIN mode" no need !

    .,,.,.

I am reaching 95c on some cpu cores, it's more than time to repaste but I have never done it and do not know where to start and how to do it.

Do you have some recommendations or could you guide to some tutorials about how to repaste a GT75 please ?

3 shortcuts on that great video.
    1: Remove fans FIRST.
2: Leave wires on wifi card, unscrew and set over in the empty fan space
3: Leave 4 Port audio jack board screwed to mainboard-Just untape cable.
Dont forget that the Video Cable is still connected to the mobo and to flip the mobo over towards the cable (avoids getting a loose fitting hinge cover where you CAN unhook the LCD cable)

Is there space in a MSI GT75VR for a second nvme ssd?

And if there is, how do I open it up, put it in, and where do I put it?

Do I need to buy any new cables or connectors?

Are there any Youtube videos or advice on how to do it and what I need to know, like what the max size the ssd can be for capacity?

For example is 4TB too big for the machine and the Windows 10 operating system to recognise?
Does the ssd have to be a certain PCIe type like PCIe3 or PCIe4?

It's not to replace the operating system ssd but for storage

Why would you ask these questions when there is a disassembly video posted one page back?
If your skills are that limited I would suggest you leave the machine alone else you wreck it!

Use double layer of 0.5 pads in questionable 1 mm gaps.MORE thinner pads will give LESS compression than one thick pad in an estimated gap.Manufacturers advise this!

    my advice
for all pads - measurement !

there is no one ideal pad for everyone :D
.,,.kid toy - modeline "small balls on all parts" + paper on CPU / GPU "or thin paper for LM measurement"
after assembly - disassembly + measurement and from this - correct pad height :p
"assembly - according to the digits on the heat sink !!!"

you may even need to use different pads for CHOKES "cpu zone"
like my GT75 - the chokes are soldered on the board randomly "one size pad - unstable system"
or i need very soft tall pads.

    from testing
MOSFET- only pads ! "best possible pads"
CHOKES - possible uses thermal paste "but i recommended pads"
and problematic zone for CPU/GPU heat block - FAN plate pressure on cooler / cpu zone - BT/wifi cable under cooler "possitible bend for cooler" for new pads.

or after heavy usage BEND on mobo - need new custom pads :D

    ////////////
there is a problem when i say that oem is 1mm ,.,.and your system need 1.5mm
    you only risk hwdefect !

the only way is measurement !!! ;)

example only !!! "real CORES position - intel sheet or google for your cpu"
4CORE "after assembly per core heat problem"
cores 0 / 1 - fan plate pressure on cooler
    cores 0 / 2 - bad pad height "mosfet"
cores 2 / 3 - BT/wifi cable under the cooler + thin pads for LM // or center screw bad pressure
cores "ALL" - bad pad height "chokes"

    if is CPU
    [0] [2]
    [1] [3]

    for assembly
"assembly - according to the digits on the heat sink !!!"
+ one screw from backside panel "center position around CPU/GPU" - for corrects assembly pressure / mobo position
after heat-sink assembly - remove this screw "will be used on the cover"

my keyboard had a problem with one key - fixed "I just carefully bent the contacts in the key - two step key and bad timings"
    gt75 7re

    or EC resets helps

/edit R shift or L shift is identical

    edit
    2 "compatible parts"
best GT75 7TH - 9TH // eurocom or WT has different key for lights .

edit "WT75/eurocom is not compatible for modification only"

eurocom is more similar to WT75 series
.,,.and also is possitible RE-MAP bad key "STEEL SERIES app"

you need only key or switcher ?
best and fully identical - GT75 7TH - 9TH "L shift or R shift" ,.,.,.or RE-MAP keyboard if you has defect "keyboard replace is very difficult or switcher repair"

it seems quite difficult to get a part for this keyboard :D
or identical dimension "slim key" + silicone "or similar SAFE glue"

edit "WT75/eurocom is not compatible for modification only"
or WT75/eurocom but this has extended for lights on key "transparent bar on key" but lock / size is probarly identical

    edit
    lost key :/ .,.,.try GT75 -7TH -9TH on google
or any SHIFT in identical size + safe glue "silicone"
+ + - for stability only "for press on edge" ,,.,.only a switcher is important.

all is possitible transfer from random key in identical size ?

or wait "and randomly check ebay / contact repair service " Rshift or Lshift is identical "my gt75 7re EU"
now transfer Lshift on any alternative key - SSE app

or similar key dimension + custom fix on key lock is also possible :) "HP sell per keys"
    try luck

    try luck :d
or Rshift - transport on Lshift now "Rshift replace after time"

on Rshift is possitible use any key or custom FIX - it is not used so often.
key unclip is easy - vertically upwards "carefully"

    good luck

    repair
    only GT75 - 7TH/8TH/9TH is compatible.
WT75 / eurocom is different key hinge - only possible for custom key modification.

and for GT75 series Rshift or Lshift - looks identical "my GT75 7RE -EU keyboard"
