Didn't know those existed! Thanks!
You are right, in every bit of advertisement they say brown, and removing the keys reveals a brown switch.
But there is still no clicky sound @ 8;37:

Okay figured it out, apparently it's not the brown that have the clicky sound/feel (it even says in the video). I was under the impression that Razer used browns, but they use their own proprietary (I think) green!Last edited: Dec 6, 2015hmscott likes this. -

Razer does not use cherry -
They used to, but yes their green is proprietary and not cherry mx branded.
I believe the Black Widow I had around 2012 was using cherry blues. -
hey man thanks for your tips
really appreciate it
but please can you tell me what is xtu? -
It's Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU)
You can overclock the CPU with it

They use brown switches yes
My own external keyboard is brown and they are an excellent switch IMO.

There are several current GT80(S) Titan's, which are you think of getting?
The GT80 Haswell, GT80 Broadwell, or the GT80S Skylake 980m SLI?
Or the big Kahuna, the GT80 S 980 SLI?

Im planning to get this one http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX59896
GT80S 6QE-001US Titan SLI w/ Core i7-6820HK, 16GB, 1TB +256GB SSD, Blu-ray Writer, 18.4in FHD, GeForce GTX 980M SLI, Win 10

You have to get a strong protected backpacj, the msi one is not protected fir the heavy gt80, i droped mine from a chair, 50cm i tried to absorbe the choc with my foot, but i have now my case cracked on the right fan corner, with no aligned case, i will try to open it when i have time, to repaste gpu by the same way, what do you think about arctic mx-4?mason2smart likes this.
-
I've got gt80 and everki titan and can say that it might be that your titan won't fit if you will add something in the bottom of backpack. Mine titan corners already hit the very top of the backpack.mason2smart likes this.
-

Yeah I like the Everki case it seems to have good protection but I also plan on putting some foam on the bottom -
I think, the bottom is not the problem, the top yes, because we have only the zip, mine cracked because the backpack rolled over the chair and hit the ground on its top, hmscott and mason2smart like this.

The everki has ok side protection it is unlikely to hit on the top as it stands up well without easily falling over (so far) but I will be sure to keep this in mind... Interesting....

Does anyone know of an adjustable lap desk or cooler (for use in bed) big enough for the GT80? So far the biggest I've found is this one but the panel is only 18"x11" so that's still 2" shy of the 13" depth listed for the system, plus the MSI palm rest looks to be another ~2". Doesn't need to be a cooler, just big and strong enough for this beast but I'm not finding anything that large.

I use this laptop cooler it's pretty good keeps the temperature low like 7-12 c° less temp.
I use it for long gaming sessions or in bed to keep the laptop from overheating .ZoOLf likes this. -
You use that one with the GT80? The description says up to 19" laptops without the height adjuster but the specs show it only being 16.5" x 12"..
-
7-12c cooler?
That's very very good, sorry but are you sure? -
The purpose of it is to push air into the laptop . Yes it's almost 1 inch smaller from sides but still extremely useful . I will be back at my apartment next week I will take photos and share results in here.
-
As far as I remember , when the laptop gets hot I use this I get 7 -9 degrees less . You can reach 12 degrees less with laptop fan turbo option and the cooler fan together.
-
Gotcha, I'm more interested in the desk aspect than cooling though. Looking for something large enough for the system, palm rest and maybe even a mouse pad but I can always put that on something else.
I found this bigger one (the 30" version) but the height isn't adjustable and I'm not sure how the wood would hold up to the heat. Edit: Looks like it does have at least 2 heights so it might work.. Still open to suggestions of course.Last edited: Dec 7, 2015hmscott likes this. -
In all fairness to MSI's backpack, the GT80 weighs a ton, and in any backpack the weight combined with swinging it off your shoulder constitutes a deadly weapon.
It would take a lot of padding or a strong internal sling to be able to compensate for the mass of the GT80.
Just don't drop it
Sorry to hear your's got damaged in that short fall, I hope your country's warranty covers accidental damage as well.
MX-4 seems to be popular, but everyone I know that has tried it has had to go back in in about 5-6 months to re-paste, and again in 6 months due to drying out or "pumping" out the paste - the temperature starts to rise again.
This happens with many "enthusiast" pastes. The original stuff used at the time your laptop was built is usually designed to harden quickly - it blocks drying out. Even if temps aren't as good as MX-4, AS-5, etc, it can last a lot longer before needing re-pasting.
I would try Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, it's designed to not dry out:
http://www.thermal-grizzly.com/en/products/16-kryonaut-en
"Kryonaut uses a special structure, which halts the drying out process at temperatures of up to 80° Celsius. This structure is also responsible for the nano-aluminum- and zinc-oxide-parts included in the grease to compound optimally, to compensate for unevenness of the component (i.e. the CPU) or the heat sink, thus guaranteeing remarkable heat transfer."
Or if you can be very patient/careful and use a tiny well controlled amount on a protected die - using tape/silicon gel on the small components around the die - try CLU/CLP, as it has been lasting a long time with high temps as well:
http://www.coollaboratory.com/en/products/liquid-ultra/
But, since you need to RMA to fix the chassis/body, I would ask MSI to re-paste and see if they can get it right the 2nd time
Please let us know how MSI takes care of it when you RMA it for physical repair.Last edited: Dec 7, 2015mason2smart, Kushkah and ZoOLf like this. -
I just used MX-4 last month and was planning to repaste my brother's gpu with it as well soon but that doesn't sound good, hadn't read anything like that previously.. Guess it's good I got the small tube.hmscott likes this.

It might work for you, but for me the legged tray types are unstable for me, and my legs like to roam around too much to stay under it for long
The weight of the GT80 is going to be too much for that little propped up base on that tray as well. That small lip won't keep it from sliding off.
I prefer a plank of bare wood cut the right size for the laptop that I can set to the side of me in bed, angling it toward me for viewing. It's simple and inexpensive. Don't use a lacquer coated board, the heat from the laptop exhaust might cause it to out-gas.
Putting a laptop stand on the wood is also problematic, they both slide around too much - 2 pieces independent with all that GT80 weight on it is asking for a slide to the floor off the bed...it's happened to me. Also, watch the cables coming of the bed, they are a tripping hazard - and down to the floor it goes - again
If you have a large coffee table book, one of the Atlas Map or Portrait photo sized books work well turned to the side work well too

It depends on the application. If there are any uneven meeting points, gaps where air can come in, and you run at high-temps - gaming or benchmarks - it can happen quicker.
Watch for temp increases around the 4-6 month time frame. It happens gradually, so save temp results from test runs right after the re-paste so you can compare it later.Last edited: Dec 7, 2015 -
No warranty in my country, and my gt80 is second hand. Then i have to deal with it, its just a small crack, but i want to check inside to see, i have every thing ok, my fans run normally,
I asked for the mx-4 because it s the only known paste that i can get. And i want to see if i have a problem with my gpu pastes, because i have some hight temps.
Nb: about msi backpack, I travelled with it in plan, twice in the last month, what i can say is that one is VERY comfortable, some times i forgot that i have one in my back, and it was with another laptop, acer 15"Last edited: Dec 7, 2015hmscott likes this. -
I'm using a smaller legged tray with a 17.3" right now so I don't think that part would be a problem for me, though that one is plastic, not wood; do you think the bamboo would hold up to the heat?
Also probably should've mentioned I wasn't planning to use the tilt at all, just flat with room for a mouse pad, might even try to remove that lip entirely or use it backwards so it isn't in the way. Hoping whatever feet are on the GT80 would be enough to hold it still.
Thanks, will do. I monitor temps whenever I'm gaming so if they do start to climb I should notice fairly quickly. I'm still curious about MX-4 in general though, I repasted for a replacement card not for temps, but in the 24hrs after I did it was running 12C cooler under load than the old one, then a few days later temps were identical to the 5 year old paste that had been on there. That was at least a month ago though and hasn't changed since, not sure what happened those first couple days.hmscott likes this. -
Bamboo is tough, I wouldn't worry about that part
When re-pasting you are changing the physical mating of the physical components, and re-fastening the screws / mounts without the knowledge of what torque break to set for the screws.
It's important not to over tighten, and some torque break settings are low enough it seems wrong - not tight enough. But, any more and it will stress components / bending them or off-setting the balance of the meeting of the components.
One example, not a laptop, I have heard the metal break from the stress of over tightening coupled with poor alignment of the metal parts, and opened up the case to see it popped from too much stress, live and learn
Not saying that's what happened to your set up, but a milder form of it is to cause uneven stress and air gaps in the mating of components which can cause the paste to lift / migrate and change the efficiency.
Once your device heated/cooled a few times it re-seated itself and stabilized temp. If there is still an air gap it will continue to dry out over time, and temps can rise again.Last edited: Dec 7, 2015Kushkah likes this. -
I am looking for a laptop bag as well any suggestions? (I bought mine second hand and it didn't come with bag) and also has anyone took their titan on a plane and how was that experience?

I use the Everki Titan and it's a really nice bag.
I take my GT80 on airplanes a lot...but I never take it out of the bag
At least not on US airlines. I carry a Surface Pro for airplane use. I think you'd need to buy the GT80 it's own seat if you plan on using it on a plane.

Darn, that first one is the one I am interested in, not the graphics part, the 980 SLI part, but he doesn't do any benchmarks, and the Google Auto-translate from French to English Captions is just awful
He does have a website, but no benchmarks there yet either... something to watch for updates:

The 2nd one is the first SLI-002 post.
