Disabling sleep (hybrid shutdown) did seem to reduce the issue, but didn't eliminate it. After being shutdown all night, in the morning on the first boot, after disconnecting power and reconnecting, I would get the same issue during web-browsing and watching videos using VLC. Once the issue happened once, it would keep recurring periodically every minute or so. Now I don't think these steps are all required to reproduce the error. I would get the same error other times without disconnecting power. That was one of the frustrating things in that could could not attribute the error to something in particular and when I thought I did, I would get the error again.
One thing I did notice to be consistent. I used MSI afterburner to try and downclock my core and memory clock (this didn't fix the issue btw). I would reduce each by 100 then click apply and the GUI would still show the 100 reduction. However, after the error occurred, I would not be able to reduce the memory clock by 100 (after clicking apply , it would revert).

One thing I also noticed is that alot of youtubers had the same issues with other NVidia video cards. Two of them in particular that I noticed (1) gave instructions to downclock the using NVFlash to make it perm (2) gave instruction to add more voltage and use flash that as well (neither which I have tried as mine is still under warranty and I will not reduce it's capability in this fashion)

Hello,
I want to ask you about gpu temps,
Now on idle, i have my gpu1 at 33c and gpu2 at 53c, 20c more, is this normal?
Waiting the thermal grizzly paste to be fixed about my high temps. -
You can restore to a single SSD, and run without RAID0, but 128GB is a really small C volume. You won't know which SSD is bad, which one to use as the new C volume, unless you get lucky it might take 2 installs to figure out which SSD is the one that is failing.
I assume you didn't get a chance to create the MSI Afterburner USB 3.0 boot recovery drive... if you can't boot you can't recover from the recovery volume, or create the boot recovery USB 3.0 boot drive.
If the laptop is brand new, and still in the return period, I would ask the seller to swap you a new unit. That will be the quickest recovery path.
Otherwise you will want to RMA it to MSI and have them replace the bad SSD and restore the OS to the RAID0. And, when you get it, create the USB 3.0 32GB boot recovery drive using MSI BurnRecovery.RMPG505, mason2smart and ZoOLf like this. -
Hey, I am having a wifi problem again. I have a GT80 titan SLI-263 running Windows 10 and I think I have narrowed down the issue to a driver problem. I am running killer suite version 1.1.56.1120 and I will get random disconnects at completely random intervals. I usually only get disconnected once or twice a day, but today, I have been disconnected at least 15 times in 20 minutes. I have found little other evidence of the same problem except for someone else on this forum. They were replying to someone talking about how Windows 10 has unstable wifi drivers and said the following" This is the exact issue I was talking to hmscott about but he thinks it doesn't exist for some reason when it has affected quite a few people. And I have the same laptop as him, SLI-263 version. They released a new driver a week ago though it seems and I'm hoping I can use it, no issues so far. Otherwise I would suggest using the OEM drivers from MSI website. You can also uninstall the majority of the killer/wifi software other than the main drivers. Download the killer suite installer, run it and click modify, you'll be given options to uninstall the software you don't want." This was a few months ago and I was wondering if anyone ever got the wifi problem on Windows 10 fixed. Sorry if this all sounds confusing, I am kind of in a hurry to get this fixed. EDIT: Sorry, I accidentally posted the same post twice.

You are fighting an unwinnable battle trying to get stable on Windows 10, go back to Windows 8.1.
The problem most people complain about is the packet priority problem, causing lag or other issues induced by the Filter driver.
This is solved by uninstalling the Network Manager and Filter driver, or correctly configuring the Network Manager Upload/Download speeds - that allows the priority software to have correct parameters to work with.
The disconnects issue is likely an incompatibility between your router and the wifi card. Either congenital (get a new router), or configuration wise (find a good set of router configuration settings).
Did you disable all power management for the Wifi card / Ethernet? You can do that in the Device Manager, check the settings and uncheck the box allowing power management. Also, in the Windows Power Plan you are using go to advanced and turn off power management - disable anything that powers off the Wifi card to conserve power - set for maximum performance - on AC and battery.
Then make sure you are using WPA2/AES encryption. Enable WMM on the router if it is disabled, and disable it if it is Enabled - some older routers don't implement this well and even though WMM should always be Enabled, compatibility may allow better performance with WMM off.
Make sure your router center channel is free and away from the interference from other routers. Use a free Wifi monitoring tool on Android to check what other routers/ap's are on / near your router channel, and move your center channel away from the other routers if there are 1 or more on the same channel as you.
inSSIDer 3.x is free to use, and can still be downloaded to use on Windows:
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5936-inssider.html
inSSIDer 4.x is cheap, like $20, I recommend getting it and supporting the developer
Here is a sample view of a 2.4ghz spectrum with most everyone but "netgear" on default channel 1 or 6, if I was on channel 1 or 6 I might get enough interference to bump me off connection too.
Note how inSSIDer 3.x suggests moving to channel 11 as it is clearer, only 1 AP with a weak signal, here is what it looks like after changing the router setting to center channel 11 and setting the channel width to 40mhz (from 20mhz):
That's another trick to try get around interference, broaden the channel width from automatic / 20mhz to 40mhz.
After trying throughput tests on 20mhz and 40mhz on channel 11, I found there was no advantage to 40mhz so I dropped it back down to 20mhz to reduce my interference with the channel 6 guys. I also bumped up my power from Low to High. You can see these changes represented in the inSSIDer 3.x view:
Generally if you are getting interference enough to disconnect you, it will happen randomly, as others turn on / off their router. I have seen it happen such that when 5pm rolls around, everyone comes home and starts using their Wifi and the interference is enough to disconnect.
BTW, there are lots of good new routers that will work fine with the 1525/1535, check them outLast edited: Jan 4, 2016SizeDrip likes this. -
had the exact same problems as you with killer wireless disconnecting with the Titan running Windows 10. I even bought the newest killer wireless card and tried it and still had issues. finally bought the latest intel wifi card and installed it in the Titan and have been problem free. Only wish I didn't have to remove the warranty sticker to get to the wireless card to swap it out (you don't have to remove the bottom panel at all) Its in the very back of the laptop, just remove the rear cover (behind the lcd and lid).

Which Intel Wifi card did you get, 82XX, or? URL/link to seller / specs?
It's sad but true that every Wifi card will have routers / AP's that aren't completely compatible. Older routers are the most likely suspects.
Which router model(s) did you have compatibility problems with the Killer 1525/35(?) ?
For the longest time it was the Intel Wifi cards that were getting complained about, and then Intel finally (after more than a year) got the 72xx driver compatibililty up high enough that people stopped complaining.
Now with Windows 10 Killer is having trouble getting a stable driver, but for Windows 8.1 it's been fine for quite a while, for most router compatibility.
Taking apart your MSI GT80 to replace the Wifi card didn't invalidate your warranty, that warning is there in case you break something while rooting around under the skins - to protect MSI from the expense of replacing parts the owner broke. -
the 8260 card. the killer cards may just not like my asus router or something, again it worked rock solid with windows 8.1 as well. but I enjoy windows 10 and xbox one streaming too much to go back.

Hey guys, I have a pretty serious problem on my MSI GT80, the computer freeze crashes pretty often, I was hoping to see if you guys have any ideas of what the issue might be.
Here's a youtube video of the crash in action.
At about 22 seconds I try to hit the control alt delete button to reset but no good, it seems like a true computer crash. This happens WAY more often than it should (like every 3 days or so). What's strange is that this only started happening a couple of months ago, around the end of November. When I turned my computer on, I got a huge blue screen saying Windows needed to install some kind of critical update (I was stuck at a blue update screen that wouldn't change until the update counter reached a full 10 percent, then I was finally taken to my desktop), after that, the freezes started happening. Attached to this post are pictures of my Bios version (fairly up to date) and proof of my Windows Updates being current. Also, my Nvidia 970 drivers are completely up to date as well, what's even weirder is that I did a ram check and it returned back as completely normal, no errors. What could possibly be wrong...? I'm super stumped. Anyone else getting this issue?Attached Files:

Your GT80 model came with Windows 8.1, and I would suggest restoring from MSI BurnRecovery USB boot recovery flash drive to the out of the box configuration and update Windows 8.1 + MSI sourced drivers + OEM sourced Wifi/network/Intel drivers. That should get you a stable computer.
Then block Windows 10 upgrade notifications with GWX Control Panel, and use Destroy Windows Spying to uninstall unneeded updates and disable background processes sucking resources from your laptop. DWS updates about a week after new Windows Updates come along, check every 2 weeks for a new release, at v716 now.
If you insist on running Windows 10, you can reduce the flakiness by disabling Hibernation, Paging, and stop using Sleep.
The freezes seem to come mostly from Nvidia driver updates and Killer Network Manager / Filter driver - uninstall those by running the Killer Suite installer a 2nd time and unchecking them from the Modify options list.
359.06/359.00 on Windows 10 seem to be best right now. 361.43 is working fine for me on Windows 8.1, but Windows 10 users and svet/prema vbios users are having problems.
You can also run DWS on Windows 10 to disable, block, and shutdown background processes and telemetry - you don't need those and they will run at times that may interfere with your use.
The freeze might also be a GPU driver crash, usually induced by a bad driver - or a failing GPU. You want to figure out which, driver or GPU - so you can RMA the laptop to replace a failing GPU.
It sounds like the freeze isn't happening often enough to debug easily, so you want to induce quicker failures. If it is a borderline flaky GPU, you can do this by using MSI Afterburner to mildly OC the GPU core and memory.
I would suggest starting at +100 GPU core and +100 GPU memory and see if a freeze happens quickly.
Don't bother debugging the hardware until you have the software fixed - do the above recommendations first before debugging for a flaky GPU
Please come back and let us know how the debugging is going.Daygecko and hoofhearted like this. -

Hi,
i found a MSI GT80 for a pretty good price, but with 2 x 980m. I believe this is overkill for my gaming ambitions. So i thought about removing the second 980m and selling it on ebay or something like that.
Is this possible? If yes, is there any good tutorial about this. -
Or just find a single 980m edition or 970 sli. Just my .02
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalkhmscott likes this. -
Now that I've said that.
You can't do that
The heat spreader and exchanger are unique to the GT80 and won't fit anything else, and likely the same goes for the GPU. Moving it to another model MSI might work, but likely not.
Most all buyers for a 980m will want the correct heat plate / heat spreader for their laptop model, and the correct vbios to match their laptop.
It will be a hassle to sell to someone inexperienced, and it might end up in them demanding a return if they can't get the 980m to work in their laptop.
Selling the 980m without the heat spreader / exchanger will leave dangling metal piping in the GT80, you would need to work around that with "stuffing" to stabilize it.
Also, the GT80 GPU upgrade program to Pascal GPU's I have been told requires sending in the laptop to MSI for the upgrade, and MSI keeps the previous GPU's as part of the cost - you couldn't upgrade your GT80 down the road sans 1 980m.
How much are you getting the GT80 for, cheap? Maybe buy it, resell it for more and buy a single GPU 980m / 980 MSI GT72S?
Please don't butcher a perfectly good GT80 980m SLILast edited: Jan 6, 2016mason2smart and GTVEVO like this. -
I could get the MSI GT80 for about 2000€. With the i7-4720HQ and 2 x 128GB SSD. Condition is good and I would have about 18 monts warranty left.
2000€ is actually more than i wanted to pay for. So i thought i could sell one of the 980m for about 700€, but it seems to be kinda complicated.hmscott likes this. -
It's not like swapping out memory/storage and selling it.
GT80's hold their prices pretty well, I have seen most go for more than the price you are seeing, $2150 US.
Considering it has 2x 980m, 18" screen, Cherry MX keyboard, 4x M.2 SATA + 1 2.5" for storage, and lots of good connectivity, it's way more computer than anything else you could get for 2000€.
It can be a financial stretch to get a GT80 new or used, but it's worth it.
Try to set aside some € for new games.Last edited: Jan 6, 2016GTVEVO likes this. -

I think i need some more time to think about it.
I wanted to spent about 1500€ for the MSI GT80 with a single 980m, but here in Germany most people are selling the 980m sli edition.
A completely new MSI Gt80 would be to expensive. 2700€ for the 980m and 3300€ for Sli edition.
I just feel keeping two 980m is kinda wasted for my games. I usually dont play newest AAA titles. I would say my most graphical demanding games would Dying Light and GTA 5.hmscott likes this. -
What's the most stable driver version for you guys?
I just updated to MGSV:TPP Game ready driver from Witcher 3 Game ready and my Titan would be unstable when on battery, i'd get mini freezes when watching videos or using the browser for about 2 mins.
Temps are 32GPU and 43CPU.
Windows 8.1, i haven't installed any windows update yet.hmscott likes this. -
Another tidbit is that the single GPU GT80's aren't upgradeable to SLI Pascal, just single GPU Pascal. So only get a single GPU GT80 if you "never" want SLI.
The single 980m GT72S G-219/220 new are more than the 2000 Euro used price of the GT80 you found.
To get a single 980m model, the only one I am aware of new for around $1500 US:
ASUS ROG G751JY-WH71(WX) Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60 GHz) 16 GB Memory 1 TB HDD 128 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M 4 GB GDDR5 17.3" Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834232849
That's the latest model with G-sync.
Otherwise, I think you will be pleased with the GT80 SLI 980m over time, with it's amazing frame rates compared to single 980m performance on all titles that support SLI - remember yesterdays AAA titles will be on Steam Sale eventuallyLast edited: Jan 6, 2016 -
You need to fully update Windows 8.1, minus the Windows 10 upgrade - use GWX Control Panel to stop that nonsense.
Also download the latest drivers from MSI for all the system / driver / utilities listed in the Programs and Features control panel.
For Windows 8.1 you should then be stable on 361.43, try it and if you don't like it, drop down to 359.12, both have been fine for me on Windows 8.1.
Also, on battery, I would suggest using the GPU switch - middle button - next to the Power button, to switch to Intel GPU - reboot required. That will save power, and on Battery you really aren't getting the benefit's of the 980m SLI - the battery can't power it all to full performance.
Also, check your Power Plan settings to make sure you aren't glitching due to the CPU being set to non-Turbo low performance. -

The way I do it after restoring from recovery volume is to apply all the Windows updates - except hardware drivers from Microsoft, Skype, Windows 10 Upgrade, uncheck/Hide those, and then reboot - it takes a while to shutdown and also at start up.
You should check Windows Update again as well, and install all the updates until no more show up - be watchful that you don't allow a Windows 10 Upgrade to sneak in
Then run Destroy Windows Spying, it will uninstall a number of KB's, block "telemetry" IP's through hosts file and firewall, stop background processes associated with "telemetry", and also remove GWX - but I suggest using GWX Control Panel for that.

Then install the latest Nvidia driver after running DDU in Safe Mode to remove the Nvidia drivers already installed.
Then download the latest Intel GPU driver for your CPU / iGPU, switch to Intel video, reboot, and install it.
When you are happy with that configuration, use an image backup tool like Macrium Reflect Free to backup your boot disk to an image file, create the Macrium Reflect Free restore boot USB 3.0 drive 4GB-16GB, and then you can restore to a point further along in the Windows 8.1 install next time - much better than a Restore PointLast edited: Jan 6, 2016Risechi likes this. -
Got about 131gb worth of games + tons of flac files and programs.
So, I just make a restore point, install updates bar win.10 and hope for the best now?hmscott likes this. -
If so then IDK... a Restore point might not be enough, but it's worth a try. That's a lot of updates, and some might run their own Restore Point(s) too.
You shouldn't have problems with Windows updates on 8.1, they have been stable for quite a while. Make sure to get them all before running GWX Control panel then DWS.
Next time you restore, do that Macrium Reflect image backup before installing apps, and again every week or so after installing and on an ongoing basis
For me I also do another image backup after installing the apps. It's pretty big, but it saves so much time when I want to switch storage hardware.mason2smart likes this. -

yes but onedrive not require a hdd just internet
-
I should mention that DWS also has a Utility section, and one of the functions is to "Remove OneDrive", and I use it -
I did restore from a recovery USB (out of box config, recommended by the good people in this thread!) a couple of days ago.
Yes, i did install apps and games after restoring from the usb.
My Titan was stable until i updated to MGSV:TPP Game Ready driver (359.xx?) from the ever stable Wticher 3 Game Ready (353.xx?)
Macrium Reflect? The USB recovery i have was made with the MSI default one.
So to confirm.
Install all windows updates except for the Windows 10 one (KB3035583 and KB2976978)
Download and Run GWX Control panel then DWS.
then hope for the best? lolhmscott likes this. -

The MSI BurnRecovery restores the out of the box configuration, built from the Recovery partition on your 1TB drive.
Macrium Reflect Free is a separate tool that you can use for backups and restores for "your" configuration.
I also have a 3rd boot USB drive, the vanilla Windows 8.1 install USB. I boot on that to run Repair Computer or open a cmd window to chkdsk /f the C drive should the Fix at next reboot fail, which it does on occasion when running RAID0 + Write Back cache after a Windows crash. Only 3 times since I have owned my GT80 have I needed it.
The Name of the Update will say Windows 10 Upgrade and be a Gig or so in size, easy to spot, you won't need to look for KB numbers.
Sounds good, have funLast edited: Jan 6, 2016Risechi likes this. -

Hi all,
Lol i am asking again about cooling pad, what do youbthink about the CM Notpal U3 plus for our gt80? -
The Cooler master U3 might work better if you choose to remove the bottom panel.
