Me too i think the vacuum is better ( 2 ordered) , but i want to give them more air to vacuum with a cooler pad, and by the same way give the cpu some fresh air.
How much the u3 cooled your laptop?
-
In a different building unfortunately.
Is the CPU heatsink removable without removing the GPU heatsinks first? -
No the gpu's must come out because the exchangers are slid into the frame and the GPU exchangers are right up against the cpus bits and pieces.

No you have to remove gpus to access the cpu

So I have a gt 80, dual 980m. Anyone understand why it is not compatible with Oculus Rift? They are claiming you need a 970 or better card, not a 970M, but I know my sli 980M's are faster than 970 normal.
-

I think it's still doable, because if you could do it with phone, why not 980M?! -
The min gpu score is just at a stock 980m on 3d Mark.

@GTVEVO started a thread about the Oculus Rift / Pre-order, lots of discussion there on what is required for hardware support:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/oculus-rift-news-and-pre-orders.786281/#post-10172866
Before today, this was the requirements listed, now Oculus links to download a compatibility testing tool to run on your system, my GT80 SLI-263 failed due to having only a 980m as the max single GPU available - Oculus only supports 1 of the 2 GPU's in the SLI right now.

Thank you for the link. The reason I said that because AMD 290 scored like 6819 pts on Passmark while 980M scored about 6000 pts so I don't think that little difference matters. What do you think?hmscott likes this. -
Oculus knows of the demand for mobile laptop support, you can see it in their forums, but Oculus still say the 980 mobile is the only supported mobile GPU, and they say nothing about the 980m. They do mention the 970m as not supported...
The new compatibility app finds my 980m and says it's not enough.
We will need to wait for the first person to try an Oculus on a GT80 980m SLI - on differently demanding apps/games - and let us know how it works overall.
For me, I won't argue with Oculus

Hi guys, I've noticed lately that my battery indicator now says "plugged in, not charging". Does this have something to do with the charger or the battery in the gt80? or is because of my power settings options? I have it on high performance.
-
Updated Windows and Graphics drivers. I still have an unstable system when on Battery power
I don't know what to do now. I'm 100% certain it's the graphics driver as i uninstalled it and did the steps that made me crash and they never happened when i had no graphics driver installed.
How risky is it updating the bios? Does MSI have a program/tool that detects your system then updates everything thats certified by MSI? similar to what dell had? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
The battery is not accepting charges while having 95 to 100% of power level, but if it goes below 95% then it will starts to recharge. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Reset the system to factory defaults first, then try again with stock settings and drivers, if all works well then proceed with driver updates.
Additionally, please be sure to update both of BIOS & EC firmware to the latest version.hmscott likes this. -
How do i update the BIOS and EC Firmware? I have no experience when it comes to those 2. Are they both easy and safe to do?
-
If you are at 90% and more, then it's normal, win10/8 have this function, to protect the battery from overcharge.
Try to drain to ... 50 and plug in the ac it will be recharging normally. -

Haha that was my first feeling when i touched it the first time
Close the screen and pass your fingers smouthly frime the right to left or left to right ( horizontally) you will feel that, like electric feel.Alienwaredelayed likes this. -
Just a couple of degrees. it takes more time to reach max temps as well. If you game for like 3 hours in a row, you will have reduced 2C or so, perhaps a bit more. It helps a lot more if you have cool ambient temps.
Something is not properly grounded then, and it is causing static buildup. I had something similar happen when I was using a defective cooling fan, caused by the USB+metal frame of the cooling pad. It also happened on a friend's house that had no grounding in the outlet.
Its normal and it happens. My friend actually loves that feeling hahahah

Did you switch over to the Intel GPU from the 980m's? On battery you aren't going to get good performance from the 980m's, that's why MSI provides the switch to let you run the Intel GPU on battery.
If you can't switch, the new GT80S 980 SLI doesn't have an Intel GPU mode and I don't know if that is the same with the new GT80S 980m SLI, then try these suggestions to help on 980m SLI.
If you have MSI Dragon center installed check your settings there - I don't use it so I only have the Windows Power Plans to worry about.
The MSI Dragon app has 3 performance settings, the 2 lowest limits the GPU performance.
You could try uninstalling the MSI Dragon app and rebooting - try it on battery again with the Windows Power Plan set to High Performance - Balanced - Power Saver, and see if any of those settings helps.
Can you provide more detail as to what you mean by "I still have an unstable system when on Battery power", what isn't working and what are the symptoms? All apps/games, or just one or two in particular? What's happening different than when on AC power?
I updated the EC / BIOS in my GT80 SLI-263 by following the instructions - which are spread out over 3 different docs, online, one PDF that takes you to another PDF, and in the end it was simple and worked the first time.
Make sure you do it plugged in with a full charge. Don't interrupt the process once you start - even if it takes 15 minutes.
And above all, READ the DOC's and understand them fully before starting. If you don't understand on the first read through, wait a few hours and read it again.
The actual update only takes a few minutes and a couple of reboots, but there have been times during BIOS updates that it took 10-15 minutes and did finish and reboot ok (not talking about the GT80) so be patient when that happens to you.
Also, I updated my EC first and then the BIOS, but I think it's ok to do it the other way too. It's up to you.Last edited: Jan 7, 2016 -
That's the sensitive ridges in your fingers riding over the ridges in the metal grain of the brushed aluminum, not an actual electric discharge

Hi gents, I was wondering if you could clarify something for me? I have a GT80 with the I7-6920HQ and GTX980M sli. Does this particular GT80 have the optimus chipset? I don't really delve much in to the tech, I just wanted a portable solution for gaming as I travel a bit.
I have pre-ordered the Oculus, they are saying it doesn't work with the Optimus laptops.
Hard to find exact information about whether this rig has optimus or not. Some reviews saying MSI dropped it, others saying it's switched?
Thanks in advance.hmscott likes this. -
No optimus the gfx cards are on or off with a reboot so you shouldn't have an issue with it.

I get mini freezes (Sound cutting off, cursor not responding etc.) every tenth of a second for like 2mins until it stops or my Titan just restarts by itself.
If I start on just battery power, my system would get a hard freeze a couple of minutes of getting onto the desktop.
Random restarts, like im just on browser then next thing I know, I get a black screen then the msi logo.
And like I mentioned, none of that happens when I uninstall the graphics driver or revert back to Witcher 3 Game ready driver (last stable driver I used) -
So you have isolated the cause to the Nvidia Driver... that's good, because I was beginning to envision a hardware root cause.
I guess for now you are going to need to downgrade the video driver to the newest version that doesn't cause issues, and check each new Nvidia release to see if the problem goes away.
You could file a post on the 361.43 Official support page, Nvidia reads all of them and takes notes for bug fixes in the next release(s).
https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hql-display-driver-feedback-thread-12-21-15-/
Here is another official support thread, due to the new R361 branch:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/904713/3d-vision/361-43-game-ready-whql-display-driver-/
I don't know what else to tell you to try, maybe play around with settings and see if you can get it better, or cut your losses and roll back and get back to gaming
The only other thing I know is that with the new R361 branch modded vbios's break, so Prema/svet modded vbios drivers won't work right - kinda like what you are seeing.
Maybe check your vbios version against the latest at MSI... let me check...

It looks like they are shipping Tobi this year... it just took them a while, and it's not unusual for something like this to be shown and never shipped, so it's good news if MSI actually has a GT72S model shipping with it now.
Toward the end of the coverage in the video then mention it's shipping this month for $2499, and will be bundled with Tom Clancy's Division - which has built in Tobi support - when the game starts shipping.Last edited: Jan 7, 2016mason2smart likes this. -

vortex looks cool but i just bought a laptop lol. Not buying a desktop any time soon unless its under 1k. lol. That and i love one thing about laptops... They tend to last only 2-3 years and i get a new one after that...

Nah, you need both, at the very least one with a 980/980ti to support your new Oculus Rift.
GT80's only seem to be on top for 6 months tops, then a new model comes out that surpasses it.
So around July look for the next killer GT80 models to come out
Desktops last a lot longer, my Asus Rampage III with 980X CPU is still going strong.
Maybe it's time for a Vortex
-

Seriously? Both???? I don't have oculus yet anyways... Will probably get steam vr cause many devs left oculus after it was bought by facebook. Steam has the knowhow to implement vr properly and make it better optimized.
Yes but they are modular and parts can be swapped.
Even screens. Its still gonna be a GT80S. May get the upgrade to pascal if it truly is 10x faster and doesn't bottleneck on the GT80 for my b-day in June... lol the GT80S im getting now was supposed to be my present for my last birthday.

yes but b/c laptops don't last as long i can get a new one sooner and have the latest tech.hmscott likes this. -
All these issues are battery only right? Or also while fully charged and on AC?
-
Why didn't you get the GT80 out last June? Or the GT80 out in July? You coulda been gaming for 6 months already
Nah, the "new" GT80S in July will have desktop Kabylake CPU + Pascal + Tobi + 20" G-sync OLED display, all unable to retro fit into a GT80/GT80S
Time marches on...
Or, maybe a Vortex with a handle and a built in 80" Projector?
