my work is for robotics its not professional - i don't cad as much as i program and programmers need cool looking swag laptops. In addition, I also read the pascal gpus will have the same floating point precision as quadros

performance overall comparisons between single cards in cad software like SolidWorks is so negligible, in addition SolidWorks has sli support

Hopefully you can do what you need to do with the GT80S 980m/SLI and mobile/consumer Pascal comes with double precision floating point :)

Not so per the professionals that use Solidworks for design that I know... they don't consider a 980 desktop GPU adequate, it's Quadro's only

Please be sure and let us know how the GT80S 980m SLI performs with Solidworks :)

GPU choices really need to be made on a software by software basis as to what the right choice is.

I also have one question though and this pertains to my "Nahimic" software on my Laptop. Is there anyway i can make this thing work? I was told that waiting for windows to update the drivers would fix it but I would like to use this now. Are there any links where I can download the drivers? I did try MSI website but did not see them there. Anyone that has had this issue and can help me with the link would be greatly appreciated. Thanks peoples. :(

Hey guys, I have another problem with my computer. When I right click on an icon in the taskbar, the words will disappear. For example, if I right click on Google Chrome in the taskbar, where it would say something like "Open new window", it just says nothing. I am running a GT80 Titan SLI-263 on Windows 10. Restarting usually fixes the problem, but not for long. Can anyone help me out with this?

If i hook up to a 3d tv, shouldnt it interpolate and make other things into 3d like desktop and icons and stuff? Does the OS become 3d?

There is no support for any 3D television (TV is never a true 120Hz+ display unless somebody starts to make one later on), but Nvidia has created a different alternative solution which requires purchase of subscription.

But if you have a 3D monitor or DLP projectors, then yes, see below.

    Well, isn't this fun...

Intel Skylake bug seizes up PCs running complex workloads
    http://hexus.net/tech/news/cpu/8963...loads/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

" BIOS updates on the way to fix problem says Intel
Four days ago Intel reported that its engineering department had identified the issue which "only occurs under certain complex workload conditions... [when] the processor may hang or cause unpredictable system behaviour". It has released a fix for the issue to hardware partners which will be distributed via BIOS updates for Skylake compatible motherboards. Now users will just have to wait for their motherboard vendors to publish BIOS updates with the Intel fix incorporated."

Incoming Intel Errata patch, BIOS update imminent

First time poster here... I have the GT80 970m SLi with the 5th gen processor and wondering if others here use multi monitor setups with spanning / surround?
I ran into lots of difficulty getting this going. Once disconnected, I have to go through the entire setup process again. The Nvidia Physx engine seems buggy. I'm using the stock nvidia drivers since the newer drivers were crashing nvidia control panel.

Kevin, would you please check with MSI as to when and what BIOS release(s) they will ship the microcode update with the Skylake patch, it looks like this BIOS isn't the one, according to Prema:

got a replacement orochi 2013 from razer... I had my orochi for almost 3 years and had to send it in b/c switch broke to turn on wireless. The new mouse i got back seems to have an issue where it wobbles. Can't figure out if it is just the glides on the bottom or its wobbling over the middle sensor that could be sticking out too much. The wobble causes the pointer to jump around sometimes. :(

what should i do... I was searching randomly on google and actually came up on this post (lol) saying the orochi's had lots of defects - however my first mouse had ZERO issues until I broke the switch and the cord fell apart.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/razer-orochi-vs-mx-anywhere-2.781742/page-4

What should I do? Should i have razer raplace it again or get a new mouse. If I get a new portable mouse should I get the new version of the Orochi?

I have used multimonitor gaming without issues. Setting up was easy. I just hooked all 3 displays and then selected in the nvidia control panel which one was 1/2/3 and placed them in the correct order. Afterwards I played a couple of games on it.

the thing is, a lot of games don't support the resolution so you end up using 1 screen sometimes. But I did play random games easily, like Crysis 2, Age of Empires HD and Lost planet 2, all working in triple monitor. But I think Metro last light didn't support it?

Anyways, I had no real issues setting it up, I had more issues in particular games that didn't support it :)

I am not a particular fan of razer, in general. Maybe try another brand? there are many popular choices, like Logitech G502, corsair M65 (or M95 etc, depending on your needs), steelseries sensei etc etc. There are many good brands and models to choose from :)

I have an old corsair M60 that still works like a charm :)

if i have an issue though, i read steelseries support is really really crappy - for example, no cord replacements

No one and nothing is perfect :) but why not venture and try other things? You already know how the orochi feels. Why not seek out something different?

You definitely went another route with your laptop ;)

Did MSI remove the GPU button/switch in the Skylake version of the GT80? Is there a way to switch to the integrated graphics without going to the BIOS?

I thought they completely removed the ability to run off the integrated with the Skylake model. Meaning it is locked to only the 980s. I'm not sure if that is true for all Skylake models or just the desktop 980 one.

Windows 10 Problems on the GT80... Has anyone had a startup and had the start button/menu and taskbar not working?

What an awful mess it was, task manager was very slow to respond. Settings app was just gone etc. I ran the powershell script to rebuild the windows apps. Nothing worked. This happened after I disabled fast boot in BIOS.

I did a system restore and it worked, thank goodness. Anyone have this issue???

I have noticed a number of people mentioning this or similar bugs, right clicking and the menu is blank for example.

It's a bug that might be new, induced from a new update. So even if you have restored back from a previous install time, the update might/will come back and do it again.

This is just one example of many I have seen since Windows 10 came out that suggest it is best to wait until a new Windows release has time to fully bake out the bugs in the OS, drivers, apps before moving to it as your daily driver OS.

These days the difference between 7, 8.1, 10 are small, except for the abominable UI experiments to improve on perfection :)

MS just keeps making a mess of it, and is still fixing UI "problems" in the field, inconveniencing all the users fighting for stability so they can get work done.

Initially wrestling with Windows 10 problems is fun and exciting, very quickly it becomes an intrusion on the calm stability we hope to attain.

Windows 10 updates and "fixes" are going to continue like this for quite a while.

If you have a Windows 8.1 backup to restore from, you might jump back on Windows 8.1 for another 6 months - you already have the Windows 10 free license - and enjoy stability there while MS futzs around with Windows 10 :)

    Useless BS. Potential stalling tactics.

Ask them for your laptop shipped now. No appeasement, ship the laptop. That's what you want.

Tell them if they can't ship the laptop now, then please bump up the SSD 1 size, thank you. :)

This brings up a thought that bothers me about these custom build places.

They get all your money up front, making sure the check clears before starting to start to procure the computer and requisite parts to begin the build, so you have no further leverage from your end to induce them to complete the build and follow through on shipping quickly. None.

When I buy a laptop at retail, or even online, I verify they have it in stock and in their hands before I pay for shipment - please take a photo of the end of the box with the serial number and build info, or I have it in my grubby hands as I go to the cashier counter. That way I am sure I have it when I pay for it.

It's a bit emasculating to beg for a vendor to ship something you already paid for 1, 2, 3 months ago, after ordering and completing payment in minutes.

Not a position I would put myself in willingly.

lol they are building it right now. I chose to have them wait for the haptics cause of my parents... -- I do not want to have them rush building the laptop --that leads to mistakes.

I asked about expedited shipping and they said it is not possible at this point
They offered OS redline boost, the anti-theft software, or monitor calibration...
Plus im swamped with work right now anyways and wouldn't have the time to set it up...

Ok, well tell them thanks but you would rather just get the laptop without delay caused by performing additional work - all those things are inconsequential, but all take additional time - it might fall on an end of day - which pushes the laptop into another day of build, which pushes it into another day before shipping.

Take it without any further work delay. :)

on my GT80S 6QE, the display button next to the power button isn't illuminated anymore. It used to stay illuminated red when the display was on and then after you pressed it to turn the display off, the button wouldn't be lit anymore. Does anybody else have this issue?

    Alright,
my notebook is now finally with MSI support and they told me nothing is wrong with it and they never had a complaint about it before. Now they are replacing the cover and run a few benchmarks to see if it is warping again. I really hope that fixes my problem... I wonder what would happen next if the problem persists.
