Usually it is something impinging on the track/slot the cover is sliding along, or a dent/bend in the "rail"/edge.
Hopefully MSI will fit it for him nicely![]()
That's why I suggested unscrewing it and sliding it to reseat it, rather than send it all the way in for RMA.
But, it seems to be happening quickly, which is nice.![]()

Hey, I have another problem. I am running a GT80 Titan SLI-263 on Windows 10 and I get major screen tearing when using the Steam client. The amount of tearing is pretty significant when on the steam store, and also when browsing my library. The in-game browser also has lots of screen tearing. When I am in a game, they don't have any tearing for the most part. It is just the steam client itself (including the in-game browser). Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a fix?
-
Yeah, steam is broken like that and that's normal, happens with any system to different degrees. I think if you use the beta client, it actually has vsync or something so it looks smooth. Otherwise it will have tearing.mason2smart likes this.
-
I haven't seen any tearing in the Windows 8.1 client, with or without vsync or Rivatuner FPS limiter set.
I have looked at 100's of games, videos, etc, and not once has it been distorted or shown tearing.
Same for in games.
What are you looking at when you see tearing in the Steam Client?mason2smart likes this. -
So I updated to the beta client, and the tearing is still there. The good news though is that the tearing is much less significant than it used to be. I'm pretty sure it is just a problem with steam as I don't get screen tearing anywhere else.hmscott likes this.
-
The tearing used to be insanely bad when I would use the steam client (library, steam store, etc), but updating to the beta client helped it a bunch. I used to have Windows 8.1, and I don't remember any screen tearing then. The screen tearing is very minor now though, so it doesn't really bother me as much anymore.hmscott likes this.

Guys, I have yet another problem. I am on a GT80 SLI 263 and a silverfish crawled into my keyboard. I have found literally nothing online that is similar to my problem, and need help with this ASAP. The thing could be anywhere and I have no idea on how the heck to get rid of it. Please help

Since the keys are easily removable, I would pop off a few in the area then use compressed air to get rid of it. Try to note where it zings off to though.
-
I have tried that, but I think it went inside of the trackpad because there is a little opening right next to where he went in that goes to the trackpad.
-
Unless you feel like tearing it apart to try to find it, I would just leave it and hope it decides to get out before it dies.
I don't know bugs well, but I assume many bugs move toward heat so I would keep the notebook off for as long as you can, maybe put it in a bright room with light on and hope it finds the light and leaves. Maybe a sticky flytrap on table near the machine in hopes it is attracted to the sweet smell. -
Quick update on the bug in my computer thing, I just watched it crawl out of my computer. My computer seems to be fine and I don't think it damaged anything.

My mom once went to sqish a bug on my brothers brand new computer (the one before his current computer) and it was apparently under the screen so he had a squished bug stuck to his screen for 4 years until the laptop died... Just from experience - it's not a pretty sight - let the bug find its way outLast edited: Jan 13, 2016hmscott likes this. -

Um? Resellers get a shipment from MSI, then install components and software. The laptops arrive fully assembled.

Rivatuner is bundled together with MSI Afterburner, install both.
Rivatuner does a bunch of stuff, but 2 functions stand out.
On screen display (OSD) of data - GPU/CPU - you know the purple text on the top Right / Left of gaming videos you see on Youtube.
The other is frame rate limiting - not vsync - that lets you run at "full speed" but set the FPS limit. I set it for 101 FPS, just over the 100hz display refresh.
You need to enable OSD in MSI AB, enable the data to be displayed, and then turn on OSD in Rivatuner.
https://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner
Look for videos on Youtube describing how to set it all up, I didn't find any I would like to suggest, but maybe you will find one, please post it here if you do find a nice one.Last edited: Jan 14, 2016mason2smart likes this. -

How to Kill Silverfish
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/silverfish-how-to-get-rid-of-them-prevent-an-infestation-203055
"No chemicals needed:
Put out some cedar, or spray crevices with cedar oil. Silverfish reportedly don't like the stuff, and steer clear.
Try sticky traps.
Put something starchy (i.e. bread) in a jar wrapped with masking tape. The poor suckers will climb up to get the food, then won't be able to get out."mason2smart likes this. -

I once had an ant colony invade my old GT60 when I was away in vacations. Turns out there was some small remains of food, I think a cookie crumble or something, near my laptop and they decided to invade. At one point, I opened my machine and saw about 15 ants walk around my keyboard and get out of the vents. I immediately turned off the machine, cleaned the area, and used bait to draw them and kill them with pesticides.
I left my machine like that for about 3 days, and afterwards cleaned the area. My GT60 was fully clean without bugs anymore

If you don't pay, you get kicked out!
Plus it's rather dangerous to have a colony of ants with a working electronics device! I was worried some would fry and short circuit something hahaha. The good thing is the GT60 is alive and well to this day

Crazy Ant's...
Why 'Crazy Ants' Swarm Inside Electronics
http://www.livescience.com/37720-crazy-ants-invade-electronics.html
"Crazy ants first showed up near Houston in 2002, but they weren't indentified until last year as Nylanderia fulva, a species that hails from northern Argentina and southern Brazil, according to a study in PLOS ONE. Their identification took so long in part because their workers are identical to a related species called Caribbean crazy ants, which showed up in Florida and were initially confused for the tawny crazy ants. They were previously known as Rasberry crazy ants, named after the exterminator Tom Rasberry who first recorded their presence near Houston. My laptop has been in inventorying (stage 2) for 4 days now....... -
Great! Thanks! Would that same drive work in the 3rd slot and just run in SATA mode, I don't think so but wanted to check. Also do you know if you could RAID 0 all three drives regardless of type? I care more about having one huge drive, than having super fast reads/writes of the PCIe modes.
-
I've been reading around and it seems that Silverfish only lay eggs in dark, damp places with food. The inside of the laptop is obviously dark, but I never eat food over my computer, and it obviously isn't wet inside of my computer. There is probably a chance that it did lay eggs, but it is pretty unlikely.

Maybe if the laptop was out in the cold for awhile and then brought in, but it was on my desk the entire time.

Why not just create a spanned volume? If you make a RAID 0 array, one drive failing means losing all your data, plus then you get PCIe speeds for most of your data. You can also use symlinks instead if you don't want to mess around with partitions or if you want more exact control over what goes on what drives.
Also, two NVMe drives in RAID 0 will top out around 3.3-3.5 GB/s tops, not 5.mason2smart and Porter like this. -
I assume you mean using windows "drive spaces" or similar? I was never able to find out if Windows writes to each drive equally or not. I was always told not to completely fill an SSD, which is what would happen is it writes to one first until full, then the second, etc.
I've tried using the symlinks but never liked it. I can't remember the specifics but it always seemed like some programs didn't like it, and it was harder to manage my data and see how full the drives are. I've tried it many times and always gave up after a while. Part of the problem is I move data around a lot so I don't like to complicate things for myself.
I am not concerned with RAID zero and data loss. I've never had a drive fail in RAID 0, and I backup my data often so I don't care if it would fail any more than if it was two stand alone drives. A failed drive is a failed drive to me.
As far as speeds, I'm just not concerned about them, a few hundred MBps or 2k, either way is super fast and snappy, and way better than any hard drive plus no moving parts etc. I'll waste more time managing a bunch of separate drives in one machine than if I had a larger combined drive, even if it was lesser read/write speeds.
One more thing, has anyone undervolted a Skylake 6920? I cannot seem to find a limit. I'm about to give up, either XTU is not actually undervolting like it says, or I won the silicone lottery! I'm at -210mv and not believing it. -

There could be some sort of m2 sata to pcie conversion but you might as well get the m2 sata and plug it in to the sata port because pcie will hit sata speed cap and costs 3x more $$. Also raid probably not set up for including the m2 sata slots. -

Saw a benchmark that hit 5 gb/sec running Linux on seperate boot drive
