There's no real need to expect a tool like that to be mult-OS aware, and clonezilla isn't either.

I prefer to run native tools for system support. It really makes sense if you think about it.

Pick the best tool for each task, specific to it, don't try to get tools that do everything - you will waste a lot of time doing it.

The harddrive I took out has their image on it as well as all of my stuff up to about a month before I shipped it to them. Even on their old nvidia driver I would get the crash occasionally. Sleep and hibernate made the problem much more prevalent, but turning off sleep, hibernate and disabling fastboot did not make the issue go away.

Clonezilla will clone any number of file systems, but it doesn't support differential imaging on any.

I agree. Pick the best tool for the job.

That's not a description on how to duplicate the problem. You need to come up with repeatable steps MSI can duplicate to see the problem happen.

If it is an intermittant problem that they can't duplicate, I would request a replacement system, but that would be a last resort, because just like the replacement system - your system will get refurbed and given to someone else...

Windows 10 + Nvidia + sleep + Skylake bugs + messing around with the problem for weeks isn't a good mix. You picked a heck of a time to get a new laptop if you were looking for stable operation.

Mention the Skylake bugs to them, ask them to disable C-states in the BIOS - they have the magic password to get the full BIOS - and disable hyperthreading - and get the password from them so when you update the BIOS in the future you can get back in and set those items back.

The Skylake bugs are causing hangs and crashes on their own.

Mixing the unstable recent Nvidia drivers since Windows 10 came out, with Windows 10 passing through so many updates, plus new drivers for all the new Skylake hardware, I would expect unstable operation right now.

Stability will come later, and your warranty lasts for 2 years, so take this all under consideration before panicing too much. :)

My biggest concern is that they seem to be washing their hands of it if I don't user the NVidia driver on the website.

That's pretty standard, and they have a point. If that driver is stable and the newer ones aren't then don't run the newer ones. Or, put up with the occasional instability with new Nvidia drivers to get the benefits for new games - and wait for Nvidia to finally get it right. They eventually do :)

I don't know how the GT80S would run on Windows 8.1, but I would give that a try if worst comes to worst.

At least reduce the number of unstable variables to a more manageable set.

Just got some photos back from XoticPC of my new laptop:

I just wanted some extra opinions -- does the screen look good (uniform color, no bleed, etc.)

Also, as it turns out, There Is NO PORT FOR THE HAPTICS DEVICE IN NEWER GT80S's... lol

Your images didn't show up. The easiest way to add them is to Upload a picture, and then click Full Image or Thumbnail. Also bracket them between "spoiler" braces.

First, where is the completely Black background image, that's what we use to see backlight bleed..., they know this.

Second, you can use irfanview + irfanview plugins to open a large image, and resize it quickly using Save as Web image, or via custom sizing options. I use that for resizing photo's - I also uncheck the Exif data save when saving to preserve privacy.

Hey guys I got my GT80 (gtx980m sli+i7 4980hq) in April last year and I've been having problems. I know my post is pretty long but this problem has been bothering me for over 6 months. Hope u guys can help me out. Thanks.
After I got it for a month, my gt80 cannot detect the second gpu, so I sent it in for RMA. They replaced the motherboard made it work. However, ever since I got it back there has been these micro stuttering in my games, no matter in SLI or single gpu mode. When I was playing GTA, fps would drop 20 fps+ and then jump back. Even standing there without moving the cam the fps was still jumping around, which is really annoying. In games like Batman Arkham city, which should have an average of 90 fps but end up dropping to 50s since I got it back from RMA. I've tried clean uninstall/reinstalling driver, updating BIOS and resetting system but none worked.
I've been having this problem since June 2015 and I sent it in for RMA AGAIN two weeks ago. Yesterday they told me the technician cannot find any problems! I cannot believe what I heard, especially because my notebook has mother minor issues like black screen and slow booting. Today I called again and they said there is a glitch within the Nvidia driver so they'll install the MSI driver and that should work. I'm still kinda worried cuz I never had this problem before my 1st RMA, I'll receive my unit in a few days and we'll see if that works. I hope you guys can try to figure out what's going on with my GT80 and help me out if it doesn't. Thank you and I'd really appreciate it if you can help me with this

You don't have a jpg viewer on Windows? ifranview is the bomb man, it's a must have tool.

Your OneDrive may disappear, but uploading the jpg's here will be available to everyone long term.

You are too young to start limiting yourself :)

You got a problem with that machine, if it's starting up using 50% of memory, of 16GB?

If you are afraid to load a tiny jpg viewer / image resizer, you got problems :)

Yeah, that's not enough memory to start with :)

I am using 5.1GB with basics loaded - firefox w/3 rows of tabs, chrome with video, IE with forms to a couple of sites, steam, out of 24 - with pagefile = 0.

Razer soldered it to the motherboard - it's also cheap transcend ram

If you have more than 16GB you can disable pagefile. More than likely you won't use up the entire 16GB. This will free up disk space on your SSD/HDD.

    No, it does not.
Pagefile is always created by default, and when you run of memory then it starts slowing down the PC because it's doing read/write on the pagefile.
If you disable pagefile since you will always have enough memory in the system to run any applications, this file does not exist in the drive so nothing will happen.
But, if memory does run out then your system will crash because memory is insufficient.

    hi guys!

I am having an error on my MSI GT80 titan ssd on a raid setup. Intel Rapid Storage Technology is giving me error on one of the drives although my system is working normally. I attached a screenshot for further clarification. Is this an automatic faulty drive? or there is some sort of tool that can fix this? Thanks!

First I would recommend removing sleep/hibernation out of windows, so that you have proper shutdown and less issues with nvidia drivers. then I would recommend you to install monitoring software like HWmonitor, Intel XTU, MSI Afterburner to check CPU and GPU clocks, temps and %usage during normal and intense work. That way you can see what could be causing issues.

Also, if you haven't, updating to the latest wifi drivers from killer might help, as everyone has had issues with killer drivers/program at some point.

We need to find out if it's temps, a bad driver install, or something else. Also, try installing video drivers using DDU as well as updating to the latest bios and ec firmware.

I've never had that happen, but I would recommend to go deeper into what the symbol means for that one drive. Since you are using RAID 0, you have a big risk of loosing all your data if that one drive fails. I would definitely back my data up and check each drive manually. Although I can't recommend any software for that last part as I am not experienced with it.

You had better get a backup and do not reboot until you do. I would say that one drive is failing.

Definitely do a backup - whether an image or files/folders of your choosing. It may not be on the edge of kicking the bucket, but you'll be covered in case it does. Afterwards, you may want to explore testing the drive and checking its S.M.A.R.T health report.

*After you do an image backup with Macrium Reflect Free, or your favorite imaging tool*

The Intel RST tool has a Verify feature under Advanced, or another tab/expansion. Use that, it might be able to fix the problem.

Then do the Windows level chkdsk on C, it will likely ask to schedule a check at next boot.

If that chkdsk passes/fails and won't repair completely, do a chkdsk while booted on a Windows install USB drive from "Repair your Computer" => command line chkdsk /f

It's likely it's a hardware error, or a RAID volume inconsistancy, those tests will rule out everything but the hardware error.

Once you think you have a hardware error, you can split the RAID0 and restore an image backup to each SSD singlely, and then work the other one - filling it up - and see if it fails.

I went through this recently, and when I got to the last step, filling up the bad drive - it failed and stopped showing up in BIOS/Windows, it's dead dead.

The SSD that failed was one of the 128GB Toshiba SSD's that shipped with the GT80 RAID0...

    Good luck :)

Well I already rebooted and it went just fine. Seems like the drive is still hanging there.

how do you smart check? use a 3rd party software?

I can't see it on IRST advance tab. I don't have an advance tab. I will try chdkdsk when I get home.

    Anyway,

Feels like my drive is indeed failing. It used to just freeze once in a while. Well atleast I got nothing important on my drive C. I can just reinstall the OS so I don't need to back up. Or am I missing something? My files are on my drive D which does not seem to have a problem

Yep. Any utility designed to give you the overall health status and that can run scans/repairs (read, write, verify) should be able to report the S.M.A.R.T status. Last I recall, HDD Sentinel was a good one for checking.

ok I will try that one. Thanks!

EDIT: did all the test there via sentinel. extended test, random seek test, surface test and checked the status on the SMART tab. I did not get any error

I don't seem to have that option. And I can't even attach an image here properly xD

Hey, I have yet another problem on my GT80 Titan SLI 263. I updated my killer drivers about two weeks ago (give or take), and my internet was fine for about a week. For the past couple days though, I have been getting disconnects everywhere. I have heard that the easiest solution is to just downgrade to Windows 8.1, but I would rather not downgrade if I would probably go back to Windows 10 in around 6 months anyway (Windows 10 is free until July 29th 2016, and I would rather get Windows 10 while it is free). My internet seems to be okay if I am just browsing the web and playing online games, but whenever I download something, my internet starts dropping connections like crazy. It will start dropping connections every 1-5 minutes. Does anyone have any ideas on a fix? Thanks in advance.

Upload an Image, click in the post where you want it to go, and look down under the message Window and click either Thumbnail or Full Image, like this:

You don't have the Verify option because you have so many errors showing to fix first :)

Maybe read the warning and follow the directions to determine why it's not happy with that 3rd SSD. It might just be a bad drive.

    CyberpowerPC has a new "GT80S SLI 980m" $2915 (6820HK) / $3195 (6920HQ)

Update: After going through the Expanded option list, I found both of these models only come with a 150w power adapter... so before buying I would talk with Fangbook and let them know it needs the 330w to run - don't get it with only a 150w power adapter, it won't perform :)

It doesn't say anything about the error. I tried to click "mark as normal" and the error went away LOL
