It seems to work, and has a complete database that includes Mobile CPU/GPU and SLI / Multi-GPU data.
I selected all the items to test, and here is the result:

I signed up for a free account
They also have a Firefox addon, Check instantly if any PC can play the game you are reading about or thinking of buying

The only inaccuracy that i found is that makes you not specify the frequency of RAM (DDR3, DDR4...). I also noticed that in the list of gpu there is a gtx 980mx.

For the detailed rig info, once you set up an account, they do get down to the details, including type and speed - DDR3/1600mhz for my current configuration.
They also had options for Mobile CPU's there too, so I could specify i7 / Gen 5 / 5950HQ

game-debate is handy. Has anyone tested against their "adjusted" requirements? Are they any more, or less, ideal than the recommended system requirements?
-
my Vive comes in Friday (whew)... Dominator comes in tomorrow... so I can test the GT80 vs the GT72 with the Vive. Or, maybe just ebay the Vive?

sadly I had a rift preorder for first wave that I foolishly cancelled. coulda made a nice little profit with that one and kept the vive. haven't seen markups on electronics like this since the PS3 launch.
-
You might as well plug it all in and play some games / "technology demo's"
It looks pretty daunting to set up. And, be careful moving around. Wear a soft helmet over the VR set up so you don't bang it against a wall and damage it and you.
No matter what you pick now, odds are it will be something else that takes off, so either be ready to buy another one, or wait it all out.
Of the bunch they all have a good chance of making it long term, with updates and a higher res screen so we can easily read text and browse the internet and files comfortably.
It's unlikely you will be able to resell and recoup your $ unless you do it quickly, and if you return in the return period make sure to send it promptly to get your $ back.
I think you can also refuse delivery now, and just get a refund.
-
I wouldn't worry about a scalping lost, I would worry about the scalping you might take on the next one
It's never a good idea to refuse service on something you haven't tried. If there is a return period, then use that to at least gain the experience of such a new device.
Who knows, you might find a ongoing use for it all. Plus, you would have a comparison point to use to measure other VR headsets.
It's only money

The phone is connected through 4G, and the Phone is connected to the PC via USB. This works fine on my ASUS ROG and I typically see 5-10mb down and 2mb up using speedtest.net and picking some nearby servers.
The same servers on the MSI are barely 1mb down and barely .25mb up and sometime it entirely fails to complete the test.
As an update: I did update the killer Wireless Drivers and that made significant improvements, but it is still slower than my other laptop. I'm not sure why or what the issue is.
I am still considering dropping Windows 10 and going back to 7 and using just the bare drivers without the Killer software suite. For me, I do a lot of mobile gaming, so this piece needs to work for me.hmscott likes this. -

I would not be surprised if drivers were the crux of this issue. Killer makes great cards, though reports of spotty drivers seem to be floating around online. -
You might check to see how the Phone is being seen on USB, what protocol is it sync'ing with. Use something like hwinfo64 while the phone is connected and see if it connects at USB 3.0 - or likely slower.
Are you on the same OS version on the Asus and MSI? Updated all drivers, Intel inf, etc?
Try something like IOBit Driver Booster, and see what it thinks needs updating, then let it do the updates, reboot, and see if that helps.
For me there were quite a few low level drivers that needed updating, including USB 3.0, I just checked the update history.
Did you install any Android debugging / developer support software on the Asus - like the Google USB debug driver, or other OEM support drivers?
Google USB Driver
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
OEM USB Drivers
http://developer.android.com/tools/extras/oem-usb.html
If you haven't gotten around to doing that on the MSI, that could be the difference as well.
There could be more going on than just the network drivers

I own a MSI GT80 Titan SLI-255 and I have been mostly happy with it. I only play one video game, Assetto Corsa, and I plug in an HDMI cable to the back of my laptop which is connected to my TV so I can run Assetto Corsa on the big screen while I keep the laptop running next to my driver's seat. Well, I just purchased a 2016 Sony XBR-55X850D (4k/UHD) a week ago to replace my old 1920x1080 TV. When I plug the HDMI 2.0 cable into the back of my laptop and go into Screen Resolution it lists 1920 x 1080 (recommended), but it also lists 3840x2160 and 4096x2160. When I select either, Windows tries switching to the new resolution, but it just pops up the "no signal" screen and after a few seconds it kicks back to 1920x1080.
Is there anyone in here running the GT80 with GeForce 965m's in SLI on a 4k/UHD TV on Windows 8.1? I don't understand why this isn't working. I even tried disabling the monitor to the laptop and asking the laptop to only power the 4k TV set and I get the same result.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks! -
Depends on the TV but the laptop from the get go only supports HDMI 1.4 which is only enough for 3840*2160 at 30hz, not 60. When you use 60hz it will try to switch to chroma subsampling and lower imagequality but I found such setting to be unreliable. To test initially, be sure to select only 30hz when using 4K resolutions.
What drivers are you currently using? I would also advice you to get an active mini display port 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 so you can get full 4K support. I bought Club3D one and it works great so far, with an LG 4K TV.alb123 likes this. -
Ahhh...I didn't know that the HDMI port on my laptop could only handle 30hz. As soon as I switched it to 30Hz it is now working at 3840x2160. Thank you...
Are you saying that if I get a mini display port 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 cable that I should be able to run at 60Hz?Last edited: Apr 14, 2016 -
This should do the trick for me?

Yep. HDMI 2.0 was recently introduced along newer 4K TVs so it wasn't available in most graphics cards until last year. Most laptops don't have HDMI 2.0 yet, but it is slowly being adopted and included. Our GT80s were not lucky enough to get such port. But thankfully, displayport is a superior port for video output and 1.2 revision that has been on laptops for a long while, is capable of outputting 4K at 60hz. We didn't have an actual capable adapter of mini dp 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 until this year! I've been waiting a LONG time haha
Yep! That's the one I bought. I ordered since january but only arrived about a month ago. I finally tested and I was able to set 4K at 60hz and play games too
Just as a note, I had to update my drivers to get it working properly.

Thank you, so very much, for your help. My TV is so new on the scene that it was very difficult to the information I was looking for to see if it was the TV giving me problems. Plus, I had never looked into any of this stuff (4k output from my laptop) before so I really didn't know much at all about this topic. Thank you for setting me straight. I learned a lot last night while reading about this stuff. I'm glad that you both recommend that particular adapter.
I've been running the display driver that came on this laptop. Perhaps it's time that I look into updating it. Is there a particular version of an nVidia driver that is thought to best suit this particular laptop/graphic cards? Again, I'm using the GT80 Titan SLI-255. I've never been able to use Sleep Mode on this laptop, which has been a huge letdown considering the price of this laptop, but otherwise I have been incredibly satisfied with the machine. Did anyone ever figure out a solution to the problem of the computer refusing to wake up from Sleep Mode? -
You are welcome
Indeed there is a lot of unknown information when dealing with new tech. I had to face the same situation you are facing, but two years ago hehe. So for me, there was no solution for 2 years!
I commented on the driver update because I had changed several times the drivers. This does not mean it won't work right off the bat. You should definitely try with your current drivers before updating. If you do decide to update, you might want to try going to nvidia's site and download 362.00 drivers. The latest 364.72 are a bit of a risk right now and not recommended unless you like taking risks haha.
As a note, are you running with hibernation disabled? As a GT80 user, we recommend you to disable Hibernation/sleep because windows and nvidia do not play nice. Nvidia also broke something after drivers 353.62 that do not allow hibernation to work properly so I recommend disabling it.
As for sleep issues, there seems to be a lot of issues all around, and it is generally not recommended to use for the time being. Hopefully windows/MSI/nvidia can solve this issue in the future.
So as a recap, try the adapter directly with your current drivers. If you do have issues, then try updating drivers.alb123 likes this. -
Thanks again @ryzeki... I don't mind taking risks with my desktop computer, but for some reason I've always been a little apprehensive about being a big risk taker with my laptops. Not that video drivers are a big risk, but some things make me a little nervous with laptops - especially when they have all sorts of background utilities for special buttons and such.
Okay, so I ordered that adapter and I'll see how it goes with my current set of drivers. I'll also keep in mind version 362.00. I did turn off hibernation immediately when I received this computer. I had heard about the issues, so I didn't want any headaches. -
Good luck man! I had to wait months for the adapter but I hear they have become more widely available now
I definitely love it, but be warned! 4K gaming is VERY hard. I am playing dark souls 3 at 4k maxed and I get around 40ish fps average in most areas.

Oh, the first thing I'll be doing in Assetto Corsa is checking my FPS with a full race track. If it's not satisfactory, I'll go back to 1920x1080. At least I'll know that I have the adapter for the future if I need it for anything else.hmscott likes this.

I use my GT80s to play AC on my LG OLED 4k. It is mint! Get's hot if I don't use the quick launch cooler however. I'll have to run the benchmark again to see the frame rate. Re the sleep issue, I haven't had the reported problems yet. I close the lid or push the power button to put my computer to sleep and it wakes fine. Driver Version 364.72 w/ 980m SLI, Win 10.
Good people on here ALB, very helpful to a newbie like myself who just bought this rig of a laptop to play on.hmscott likes this. -
ok, so the Titan 980m SLI and the GT72S with 980 both play well with the HTC Vive, though the GT72S is a little smoother in some games, only skipped one frame. With the Titan, overclocked the GPUS 200c/200m, and get occasional frame skipping on hoverjunkers, but that's only with the graphics AA set to 8x. otherwise they both perform admirably. tempted to keep the GT72S as its smaller and lighter, but man would miss the mechanical keyboard like crazy... decisions, decisions.

Not sure the audio is right coming through HDMI -- subwoofer in the room didn't do much? Any way to control this through the computer??? -
Are you running in full screen right? no borderless window etc. Fullscreen exclusive is needed to make use of proper SLI. I had issues with The division not setting up properly full screen with older drivers.
to make sure audio is comint out of the HDMI port, make sure you have set it up via Playback devices. In the icon on your task manager with the little speaker, right click and configure the playback device to be the HDMI out.
As for your adapter, what adapter do you have? i have no problems gaming at 4K/60hz configuration so far. Well, no problems in activating it haha, I certainly can't run at such res!mason2smart likes this. -

It's an accel mini dp to HDMI. It sees it as some sort of nvidia display and doesn't see the tv specs. I cannot control the res or refresh rate of the screen I'm trying to connect to... -
How weird. I use the Club3D one and it works without issues. It also recognizes my LG TV and shows different resolutions it supports including display modes, RGB and bits per color.

Hey, this might be a bit of an odd question, but does anyone ever get abnormally high CPU temps when playing Battlefield 4? Every time I play it, my fans go on pretty much full blast, and my CPU goes up into the upper 80s Celsius. Has anyone else noticed this?
-
That is normal. Different games push the system differently. some will have low utilization while others jump a lot. Battlefield 4 is one example, when playing multiplayer, that users a lot of CPU resources.
I wouldn't be surprised if you ever hit 90s in temps, I know I have, when I play games that stress the CPU tremendously.hmscott likes this. -
Okay, thanks. I just wanted to make sure that my temps weren't insanely high compared to everyone else's with the laptop.

How is everyone's experience with the Titan from an FPS shooter response time perspective? I'm contemplating getting the "002" version with 980m sli. I currently have a Sager with a i7-4970k and a 980 that I love except for the FHD screen it has which looks nice but has a response time around 25ms. I may have been a bit spoiled by generally playing on my desktop with a g-sync monitor but playing FPS games on my Sager just doesn't feel right to me visually.
I believe this screen is around a 16ms response time and was curious if people noticed any issues while playing fast paced games (either ghosting or lack of responsiveness).
