Any news on (1) when will GTX 1080m come out (2) whether we GT80 Titan owners can buy kits from MSI to swap? This is the moment of truth - one of the selling points was that the notebooks are upgradeable. I hope they would honour it.

Unless Eurocom lowers their pricing I'll be switching back over to a GT80. It's the only laptop I haven't felt compelled to hook up an external keyboard/monitor. Flat keys just do not work well.... and don't even get me started on chiclet.

Hey, I have been having flickering issues on GTA V, and I was wondering if reseating my SLI bridge would be a good idea. I have done everything I can think of to try and fix the issue (including disabling SLI), but the only solution to the issue I have found is to run the game on integrated graphics, which obviously doesn't work very well. I was thinking that my SLI bridge might be loose, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble of reseating the bridge. Also, does anybody else have flickering issues when shooting in GTA 5?

I haven't experienced flickering issues but I do think that checking your SLI bridge is a good idea.

Although this is a well known problem with GTA V, oft reported, I couldn't find a youtube video showing it, just one that said it was due to a bad GPU, but in this case it isn't, it's wide spread.

Screen flickers black when shooting ? Also when cars backfire from the exhaust
    https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/611703999963105225/

If you are getting the red/black flashing when shooting, it's "normal".

    No need to RMA :)

I don't recall if this was on a specific range of Nvidia drivers, or if there was a fix - I don't think so - and I don't play GTA V so I can't help debug it. You could try newer/older video drivers, but I think anything past the driver made for GTA V will do it.

I just tried running the game on my integrated graphics, and the issue went away. I also tried out other games where I was having issues (Call of duty world at war), and the graphical issues in those games were gone too. I also get extremely faint flicker when I am on my desktop that went away with switching to integrated graphics. At this point, I am certain that my SLI bridge is causing the problems. I don't want to go in and reseat the bridge, but I don't think I have much of a choice. Also, heres a video of the issue in action: It isn't my video, but it is the same exact issue I am having.

I don't know what makes you believe it's an SLI cable problem, as typically the symptoms you are describing are due to a flaky GPU, one of them anyway.

If you are OC'd try running at stock and see if the problem goes away.

You didn't mention you had the flickering problem in other games, or on the desktop before, vital info to help you debug :)

You picked the one known GTA V gun flicker issue like symptom to list :)

    Sounds like another RMA.

I wouldn't play with the SLI cable...try running in Single GPU, disable SLI and see what happens.

Did you change your Nvidia resolution to a custom one with higher refresh? Sometimes going in/out of games will cause a flicker as the refresh goes from in game 60hz to whatever higher refresh you have set.

But, if you are getting graphics anomalies in many things, then it's a GPU issue to get resolved.

I have tried disabling SLI in the games with the flickering issues, but the issue still persists. I am not running any overclocks, but you are probably right when you say that it is a GPU issue, not an sli bridge issue. I would RMA the laptop, but I can't afford to go a month without a computer, and the flickering only occurs in certain games. Most of the games don't have any graphical issues, but there are obviously certain games with the issues that are likely GPU related. I really want to get this problem fixed, but I simply can't afford to go without a computer for that long.

Sometimes reality doesn't fit our needs :(

It's good to get it fixed, RMA'd, when you find the problem rather than waiting, if it takes a month, then pick a time soon when that matters least.

    Waiting won't fix it.

It sounds border-line, and that could mean it will get worse over time. I have had a laptop GPU gradually go bad until I couldn't use it, then RMA'd to Asus, it happened over a couple of weeks in 2008, took 2 weeks to get it RMA'd, and 2 day turn around for the RMA with Asus - give them all the pre-debugging info you can so they can focus on the problem and resolve it sooner. :)

The issue has been happening ever since I got this laptop returned to me from the original RMA, which was probably around mid November. The issue hasn't really changed or gotten worse since it first occurred in November. I may RMA it if I can find the time, but I can't find a time to get this fixed for now.

Well, if it's bugging you, I guess you could try re-seating the SLI cable... if you feel up to it, it's a lot of disassembly and fiddling with a tricky socket/plug...

Is it at all heat related? It could be a not quite tightened heat plate or fitting...

Did you try switching which GPU is used in Single GPU mode? To isolate which GPU has the problem? If running on either shows the same problem, then it might not be a GPU, it might be in the support hardware.

I thought there was, maybe not, check the options in the Nvidia Control panel, I'm not set up to do that for you right now :)

I went through this about a year ago with someone else, and they were able to switch out L/R to figure out which one was faulty.

Darn, I guess he pulled it :)

    I don't recommend doing that...

Now that I think about it I think he also swapped them L to R to see if position would help with temps... been a while.

On a desktop you can switch the GPU used by moving the monitor cable, can't do that in a laptop without physically swapping GPU's L<=>R :)

I got an RMA form after talking to MSI support yesterday. I won't be able to send the laptop back to them until around mid June, but I'll let you know how it goes when I send it and get it back.

New Nahimic Drivers released --- completely new software - Nahimic 2.0! Seems to allow much finer control over audio settings.

Not sure why since I, myself, like most others, don't know how it is "exactly supposed to sound like" lol.

Hey guys, My Rift CV1 arrived 2 weeks ago and it has been fine in everything except racing sims. I am not a very diverse gamer, I usually only play racing sims and Arma3. I have noticed however a lot of the stutter or judder when I pan my head. I haven't played with any over clocking features with this laptop because I am an outdoors guy lol. It's all kind of way above my head but I noticed the laptop shipped with the Afterburner app and I would like to try to eliminate the judder in my games. I can achieve the 90fps in game when I am alone hotlapping, but the stutter/judder is bad still.

Here are the basic specs of my system:
    Intel Skylake Core i7 6920HQ 2.9GHz
    18.4" FHD (1920x1080) LED
    Intel CM236 Chipset
    Dual NVIDIA GTX980M 8GB GDDR5 SLI
    32GB DDR4

I know I can get info on how to use the app via google, I was wondering if those of you with more knowledge than I could tell me what is a safe maximum with the card, Core and Memory clock speeds?

The screen is a pretty average panel because certain refresh rates cause bad flickering. But I would like to try to increase the performance of the GPUs where possible, without risking damage obviously.

Don't seem to like new nahimic that much... seems to distort the sound and not use sub enough still...

@MSIGeno - Can you please add the ability to set custom audio profiles and launch them with certain applications?

    Hi Guys

I hope you're well. I've come across a rather puzzling problem and I am lost in how to fix it so I thought I would see if people far more experienced in this issues may be able to help.

I have the MSI GT80S 6QF and I recently purchased the HTC Vive to jump start the world of VR.

The set up works perfectly. However, I'm encountering an issue where the laptop is not recognising the Vive headset as a monitor via HDMI in the first instance I am can't seem to find a reason as to why the system is not recognising it.

I have an Alienware 15 (single GPU) and it was immediately picked up and able to run all aspects of the VR, but sadly the specs on that device are not good enoug hto run the VR adequately.

Any ideas as to what I might be able to do to get the laptop to recognise the Headset? Has anyone else come across a similar issue?

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas you all have.

    Cheers

    Rayleigh

Try setting it with single GPU only, disable SLI, and also use the latest drivers with a clean install. I had problems with my TV and the HDMI output recently, and was solved by clean installing the drivers.

Also, you could try the display ports instead, using a converter.

I am not sure if you need to install or mess with anything else. My Vive is supposedly shipping in june so I still have some time before I could even help with setup.

Thanks very much for the suggestion Ryzeki. I shall give it a go tonight when I get home and see if I get any luck.

Good point Mason. I would have assumed that's the role of the provided Link box but it's worth a go.

I have also ordered a Mini DP to Mini DP to see if it may be a faulty HDMI port on the GT80 as the Vive also supports Mini DP input so i've been told.

Got to be worth a shot given my Alienware just isn't up the task due to a shortage of RAM.

Sorry Mason... missed the second message.

It's currently still back ordered as far as I know. My shipping date was June but got told this week that it was due to arrive yesterday. I am in the UK and I have seen forum posts stating they recently did a UK wave of shipments so I may have been lucky.

    In terms of first impressions

The Kit itself is very well put together. I bought two lightstands to mount the base stations as I want to target portable VR (hence the frustration around HDMI on the GT80).

You do however, need a location with about 5-6 power sockets (2 for base stations. 1 for link box, 1 for PC/Laptop, 1/2 for handset charges, plus 1 or more for any other PC accessories you are currently using).

The VR experience itself, I don't want to judge based on the Alienware running it at less the adequate speeds. Running smoothly at the required specs I can see it being incredibly immersive. I loaded the Google Tilt Brursh software and looked at some of the pre-loaded galleries and they looked amazing to walk round and see them and to draw in 3D.

I will defintely report back here once I have managed to overcome the HDMI to Headset problem with a more indepth impressions for you.

Also if anyone else has any other ideas in the mean time I would be very grateful to hear them as I am very keen to get the VR world running on my MSI.

    Cheers

    Rayleigh

If u have a gt80s you can probably push all through the thunderbolt port as it has increased power (there is a firmware update for it though)

Make sure u use -multigpu in steam

Open Design means your audio bleeds out from the headphones and into the surrounding area, not good if you are trying to be quiet - others can hear what you are listening to.

Professionals use a separate microphone, with it's own amp and recording - better than through a PC :)

Check out the last videos, they do a Mic test and you can tell the Sennheiser is a great Mic, but not as clean as the Mic recording of the video reviewers recording set up.

There are lots of good Microphones used for podcasting, you could check out reviews like this recommending various levels of Microphones, I like the MXL990, but these are all nice ones at various price points:

Hi there. Can I ask you something, guys?
    Should I buy this laptop?
I'm looking mainly for a desktop but this laptop could fill my needs. I can get it used, specifically, the one with 16gb RAM 2x980m and 2x128 M2/1tb HDD por 1600€.
However, I'm worried about the temps and noise.
What is your experience with it?

Laptop is amazing but CPU is weaker compared to a desktop. If u need CPU power, get a desktop. I highly recommend the laptop it has great temps and is well built. I would wait for pascal though and swap out the ssd drives - the included ones are often prone to failure

To be honest, even if the CPU is weaker due to the clockspeeds, we are talking about a small difference. There are extremely few options with an actually stronger CPU.
