You are right, I didn't read correctly. Though for 1600 euros seems to be a great price for the performance you can get.

As for my vive, it's still in a box, on transit hahaha :D :( almost in my hands....!

I doubt it. Maybe next gen the line will be more blurred, but I don't think so because things are shifting to BGA. I would much prefer the GT80 titan to remain a desktop replacement powerful laptop, and indeed use desktop CPUs.

But only time will tell. I hope so because it would make it the best laptop ever :)

The MSI Vortex G65 SLI-002 980 SLI desktop has a 6700K desktop CPU, and uses the MXM GPU's from the GT80S 980 SLI
    https://us.msi.com/product/vortex/Vortex-G65-GTX-980-SLI.html#hero-specification
    • Marketing Name
      Vortex G65 SLI-002
    • CPU
      Intel® Core™ i7-6700K
I am hoping MSI takes the opportunity to increase the PSU power of the GT80 series when implementing the SLI 1080 model to unleash the full potential of the 1080's, and to also take this opportunity to size the new PSU to add support for a desktop CPU.

They could definitely wait and rework the GT80 chassis to support three fans and desktop CPU with dual GPUs. The perfect system :)

I wonder why no one has thought to incorporate the psu into the laptop with direct power conversion- bet u they could shrink it a lot... Then we'd only need cords and no brick!

Why stop there? Add a miniaturized fission reactor and you won't even need to plug it in. Just swap out the fuel rods every once in a while. I bet you could even break 330W.

Maybe skipping a desktop CPU might be better. Desktop Kaby Lake insofar is not getting a 256MB L4 Cache like the H 4 core i7 BGA version. Maybe, just maybe, it will really even things out. There are already many games where Broadwell outperforms Skylake.

I don't think so, there are so many reviews of this laptop than I don't think it will add anything new.

BTW, do you use any cooling pads with this one? I have a coolermaster U2 with my GE60 (which has almost the same cpu, the 4700HQ, and a GTX860m that gets very hot and the cooling pad helps there quite a bit).

Most cooling pads seem to be placebos, but everyone's mileage varies. Give it a go if you have a spare, or if you're looking for a recommendation, the CoolerMaster NotePal U2 and U3 pads are quite good.

Well, I can cool mi ge60 up to 10ºC with the cooler pad on, which isn't too bad, in both the CPU and GPU. I was thinking about the U3, it's big enough, and you can put the fans where you need them.

Yep, results vary with each cooler and laptop combination. - 10 C is really good! I've seen the U2 lower idle temps on the GE62 by about 5 - 7 C, and temps at load by roughly 2 - 3 C . Sometimes they do absolutely nothing, but it's worth trying one and judging for yourself.

There hasn't been a mobile Pascal release, only desktop Pascal GPU release. The GTX 1080 / 1070 GPU's for desktops.

There may be a mobile Pascal announcement during the Computex 2016 coming up next week.

Ahead of the show, this week, vendors are pre-announcing new 980, 980m, 970m, etc previous generation mobile GPU laptop models to be released at Computex.

That doesn't bode well for a mobile Pascal release at Computex, or anytime soon.

Yeah, I doubt it. They wouldn't go through all that trouble to release whole new models of Maxwell, and then also issue new Pascal models... that would be weird :)

Yeah, there was a pre-show judging of entries and winners selected ahead of time. Go figure.

The GT83 has a different keyboard layout, at least from this photo:
    20160520_2.png

And, no photo of the GT73, but it's supposed to be a lighter profile laptop, so it's going to be different too. :)

This photo could be the GT73, since it's also a SLI machine.

GT83 will be a different model. I suppose they might have worked out the power requirements with a new PSU as well. Maybe improved cooling?

    Couple questions.
Have the 5700 proc,32gb ram, 353,62 nvidi8a drivers and 970m SLI. The VR sections of my geforce experience state I need driver 359.00 or higher, is 368.22 performing well?
also are their any headsets since it says a 6700 and 980 is needed that I can use or have been tested?

Since VR does not currently use SLI (at least not for most "games" ) right now, you need a powerful enough single GPU. That being said, a 970m can possibly play VR games as long as you can reduce settings.

I will test tonight with my vive that just arrived :)

I had to go back to the ones on the MSI page, I think they are 353.54. The lastests (368.22) gave me display driver errors when watching videos.

well i just did the driver update

    was on 353.62

firestrike, killer icon exited, fans on high, just laptop display, both clean installs of driver, no OC of GPUs or CPU. Keep in mind they are 970mSLi and 5700chip so lower scores then more robust gt80 configs, so far so good.

Early impressions with the vive: This rocks! I am loving the current games and demos, but there is a lack of content right now. Also, I don't like the graphical settings/resolution of games. Maybe it's the lack of custom settings or maybe that's how games look but I think there is room for improvement. This may be limited by my hardware, but additionally might be a limit by the vive itself.

I have had no problems or performance issues so far. Most games have used 20-30% CPU resources, while 50-100% GPU resources.

That posting is very old, from September 2015 - 9 months, no need to resurrect it, or any others more than a couple of weeks old :)

Besides, if the man wants Windows 7, he wants Windows 7, not Windows 10.
