Try the drivers disk that came with ur laptop and see if it sounds like a lawnmower -
But, I have a different model, SLI-263, and it came with Windows 8.1, so likely a different disc. -
Maybe find someone local you can share with, someone that is already bored of it and doesn't mind loaning it out.
Or a local University, Library, High School, etc:

It is what it is man, all the m.2 PCIE SSD's are "early sale" devices, way overpriced for what you get, at many times the cost of same storage size M.2 SATA drives.
The 1TB M.2 PCIE drive may be early in it's high priced rut, but only slightly more overpriced than the 512GB / 256GB M.2 PCIE SSD's that precede it.
If you want that high priced PCIE M.2 SSD, ya got's to pay what they's askin.
And, as the price of the M.2 PCIE drives drop, so tracketh the M.2 SATA drives - the pricing parity of 1:1 forever out of reach.
The M.2 PCIE drives will remain overpriced compared to the M.2 SATA of the same storage size.
Just so you know the Sandisk 1TB M.2 SATA SSD is *also* new to the market, as are all the 1TB M.2 SATA SSD's. So it's a fair comparison.Last edited: Jun 7, 2016mason2smart likes this. -

I am running into a problem with the keyboard -- I cannot find a way to use alt codes. I just saw that this was asked about 100 pages back and no one answered it. Has there been any updated information on this matter?

Hello guys,
i have some questions for you...
i want to buy MSI GT80 with GTX970M SLi...it will be enough for VR Ready?
Is it there some problems with SLi? I mean microtearing of screen?
Is it Optimus available?
Thank you -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA57X3V91990&cm_re=sli-012-_-34-152-984-_-Product
You would need to get the SLI-258 Broadwell model, still for sale at Newegg, it lets you switch between iGPU and dGPU - requires a reboot:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16834152809
You need to rate a single GPU, not the SLI together, as the current VR software won't do SLI/Multi-gpu.
So for mobile you will need at least a 980 SLI, or when they come out, the 1080 mobile SLI or 1070 mobile SLI.Last edited: Jun 8, 2016mason2smart likes this. -

I like having no Optimus -- reduces issues that can occur with the software/hardware integration of the Mux switch in the other models -

Other than that, I have had overall a very positive experience with my titan in all games
I think we need way stronger GPUs to ensure high resolution and refresh rates. This might be the reason why current games run lowish resolution, because 980m is not powerful enough.RMPG505, hmscott and mason2smart like this. -

The 1080 mobile SLI GT83 or maybe even the 1070 mobile SLI GT73 should be ok - we just don't know how cut-down the Pascal GPU's will be for mobile.Last edited: Jun 9, 2016RMPG505 and mason2smart like this. -

If you feel that situation happening, it's best to resolve yourself to not purchase, no matter the offer - especially if the offer is presented as only good until you leave.
You must resist this urge - "A fool and his money are soon parted..."
Try to find a way to borrow or rent the equipment to release the tension, but spending $1000+ on what is out now isn't a good use of $.Last edited: Jun 9, 2016 -

You won't have time to enjoy it, use it, and earn back the investment in it.

By hardware, i meant GPU power and ports (eg HDMI, USB, and display ports - cause manufacturers get lazy and don't update products)
How many desktop chassis exist with USB type c- practically none. And few have 5 or more USB 3.0 portshmscott likes this. -

Yes but I see there being a market for it at this point as it slowly develops into what we want it to be
From my experience it does have a ways to go but I probably want to be a part of it from the beginning ( think of it as an early adopter). It's not a fail product like the psvita (no offense Sony but the psp was much better).

I am talking about the VR Standard of 970 desktop performance as the base minimum requirement for graphics power.
970 desktop GPU is too low of performance. It will result in minimally interesting games and usable only for current VR headsets, and won't be enough to grow into higher resolution hardware.
If the investment money keeps flowing in to VR unabated, the resulting constant improvements in Display and Headset implementations will rapidly grow minimum GPU performance requirements.
VR users will continually need to upgrade their VR hardware, at a much faster rate than PC gaming has gone recently - more like in the early days.
If we are really going to push through until near usefulness of VR this wave, we need to keep going and sustain constant improvements through growth for a good 3-5 years.
So far that's been too long to engage the average consumer, even the above average enthusiast, during any of the previous waves of VR introduction.
You have many other cool interests you have already expressed an interest in.
Unless you want to specialize in VR as a career, and are prepared for a constant investment level in VR hardware, it's not a good investment.Last edited: Jun 8, 2016 -
Sony had a great product with the Vita, but introduced it into a market that was no longer there.
VR has never had a market, it's not established a repeatable growth pattern - a seasonal growth with constantly improving hardware and software - and has no library of games or even a single "killer app" that pushes sales.
there are plenty of things that *only* ever have a ground floor.
Thus far, after 40+ years, VR is on the Ground Floor, again.Last edited: Jun 9, 2016 -

Hello everybody,
Sorry for my bad english.
A few weeks ago, I bought a GT80s with 6820HK and 980M SLI.
After some days, I noticed that the CPU abnormally heated in some benchmarks and games (+ 95 ° C).
The Intel XTU test gives 97°C with CPU multipliers x38 and undervolt 70mV.
So I returned my machine to the customer service.
Today I received an email from a technician who said :
Following the referral of your product to the customer service I want you to know that despite our good will, after several days of testing, failure related to temperature and Whine Coil has not been confirmed.
Your product as a product Gamer can work even 96-98 degrees in games and this is not a concern.
What do you think about this explanation ?mason2smart and hmscott like this. -
Your criteria is for a laptop to not reach that thermal throttling limit under normal operation, it should stay in the full performance mode without thermal throttling.
Ask them to please carefully repaste the CPU and bring the maximum operating temperature under 90c to avoid thermal throttling in normal use.
Tell them if they can't do this, then please return your money or swap your unit for a new one.
I should mention at this point, that you should have returned the laptop for a refund or swapped for another unit immediately upon noticing the problem.
Most places have a 7-14 day, sometimes 30 day, return policy - now isn't the time to ask them if you don't know already - just ask for your $ back or a swap for another new unit.
If they say they need to send in the laptop to MSI because they don't repaste CPU's, then also ask for your $ back or swap your unit for another new one.
If they won't do any of this then you might be stuck, unless you are still under a return period, and then you can give the reason "not suitable to purposes" as the return reason, no further explanation required.
You may need to get your credit card company involved, if they won't accept a return from you. Make sure you point out that you asked them to fix it before the return period expired - it expired while in repair.
If you want to keep the laptop, and you have experience re-pasting laptop CPU's yourself, you could do it. But, I don't recommend this unless you have a solid experience - you could end up with a dead laptop and no service warranty to cover repair.
Good luckmason2smart likes this. -

If they have the machine and you have a steam account see if you can buy firestrike and have them run it, give you the ambient temp, and send you a screenshot of the CPU temps and the computer running it.
I would recommend buying it on g2a or somewhere where you can get it cheapLast edited: Jun 9, 2016hmscott likes this. -
I can't type their name in to communicate and I'm unable to send in game items to my own characters because I cannot type their name out. I just find it a ridiculous oversight for a machine at this price point.
MSI has no Titan-002 that is running in the RMA department to test it out on at this point in time .. I was told I would get an email whenever they find more information on the issue. I'm not holding my breath.hmscott and mason2smart like this. -
Thank you for your answers.
I bought this used machine on a serious forum, I have no doubt about the honesty of the seller who did only some benchmarks without checking the temperatures.
I have therefore not returned the machine to the dealer but directly to the MSI customer service.
So the answer of the technician comes directly from the MSI customer service.
I have already responded to his email to tell him that his analysis was unacceptable in my opinion and I asked him to repeat the tests.
I also told him about the CPU throttle from a certain temperature and that I did not buy this machine to use it with reduced performances.
Also, if temperatures reach 98° C in spring, how much they will go up in the summer ??
I do not understand why they do not even talk about a repaste. Seriously, should I teach them their job ???
And I do not talk about the extreme coil whine on my machine, they said they had not noticed any problem with this...
Foolish and disrespectful for the customer.
