You should move to Win10, but be sure to backup all data before upgrading.
Thing can still go wrong.

If you are on Windows 8.1, stable, and enjoying your laptop gaming, or whatever you are doing, don't waste time changing the OS, it's a waste of time - nothing to be gained.
You will most likely lose time upgrading, updating, bug fixing, driver finding, and end up disappointed that nothing is improved - no performance improvements - no UI improvements - changes but nothing that helps work flow or does anything other than move things around once more.
You should be happy your hardware was issued with Windows 8.1, so you can avoid all the Windows 10 BS.
And, remember, misery loves company - don't listen to the siren song of those stuck with Windows 10

Ok. I've solved the RAID conundrum but got some more problems.
The Internet keeps disconnecting. Not from the WiFi, that's stable, but it'll show "connected, no Internet" in the system tray.
Anybody with similar problem?
Now I'm not sure whether it's the Killer problem, or my router.
I did have some issues with the router like connection dropouts but the connection would automatically restore almost immediately.
The Killer is just hanging there with yellow triangle for seems like ever.
I'm downloading Witcher 3 since last night.hmscott and mason2smart like this. -
Oh yeah. A question. Since my NVMe's are in Raid0, the Samsung 950 PRO driver, which as I read makes them go even faster, doesn't recognize the drives.
Is that normal or did I screw up somewhere on the way to RAID?hmscott likes this. -

Have you installed the latest driver directly from Killer gaming website?
www.killernetworking.com/support/driver-downloads
Did you use the latest NVMe driver for your Samsung SSD?hmscott likes this. -
No. I didn't install the latest driver directly from Killer. I installed the latest one from MSI.
Yes, I believe I do have the latest Samsung NVMe driver but the problem is the drives report as Intel RAID volume 0 and not by their actual name. Did I do something wrong settinmg them up? Because I don't really know what I did to make the RAID work. All the "how-to" articles and videos helped a little but none of them were 100% applicable to this particular laptop. Not even the ones straight from MSI.hmscott and mason2smart like this. -
Why is app scaling looking so bad/blurry? Is there any way to disable it globally? For the time being I'm disabling it in .exe properties but that's a lot of programs to go through one by one.
Damn I'm so behind I feel like a noob. I didn't have to do any of this on my dear dead Sager. Got rusty.hmscott likes this. -

I'm not sure that the Samsung driver works on RAID arrays (please follow up on this if someone can confirm otherwise). For RAID, you can use the Intel RST software to at least monitor and manage the RAID array.hmscott likes this. -
Ok. NOW I did and... Oh My Holy Jeepers! The D/L speed leaped from measly 10Mbps to over 65Mbps!! That's what I'm calling IMPROVEMENT!
The U/L speed remained roughly the same (6.5Mbps)hmscott likes this. -
Ohyeah. The IRST driver was crucial in setting up RAID and installing Windows.

There is a program to fix scaling --- your GPU drivers may not be installed right -- try using ddu to uninstall then then do a REGULAR, NOT CLEAN install of the latest driversstank0 likes this. -

mason did you see the rear picture its got 3 vents, 3 fans coming up man. we can only hope that kabylake 7820hk would be better binned than skylake's 6820hk.

@stank0
What's the difference if you have already removed all the Nvidia drivers with DDU to then not use Clean Install? - which lets you choose what to install - I only install the video driver, HD audio driver, and Physx driver - the others aren't needed.Last edited: Jul 8, 2016 -
That article is a *month* old, LOL
If you are going by rumors and leaks, pick something newer... -
@stank0 - it looks like you are coming along nicely
Set your scaling to 100% in Display Control panel:
https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/4597/windows-10-feature-focus-display-scaling
It used to be called Desktop scaling, and by default MS installed it set to 125%, and that made everything bigger and out of focus.
Nahimic isn't all that helpful, but it does make a difference, click the middle button to disable and listen on/off.
Intel RST, or irst, does the speed up tuning for RAID, set to Write-back cache for best write performance, but your numbers look good already - and write-back cache can cause data loss if you ever need to power off without shutting down - do a C drive disk check at next boot.
Samsung Magician won't update firmware or allow for many tunings when SSD's are in a RAID configuration - you do the firmware updates on the drives when single. Otherwise I uninstall Magician.
Have fun

Interesting thing, not everything looks out of focus. Some look good, some don't. Quite intriguing.
Even with the middle button off I can hear some sort of volume equalizing that doesn't happen from the regular "non-extreme" output. I had that happening on my Sager and in 3.5 years couldn't figure out how to turn that crap off.
I don't have the IRST control panel. All I could find was the driver.mason2smart and hmscott like this. -

I tested that Nahimic for a while and I don't know what's going on with my computer and I don't know if ALL GT80s models have that Sabre Extreme sound with additional "gold plated" port, but the sound coming out of the regular (Realtek) one is VERY acceptable, in fact, much better than my old laptop and the Nahimic software actually enhances it. But the noise what is coming out of that "HiFi" (Sabre Extreme Audio) device is absolutely terrible with or without Nahimic. Now I don't know, if the device in my computer is faulty or I've got a case of some serious software/driver mismatch.
I'd love to learn other people's experience with that Sabre Extreme Audio.mason2smart likes this. -

My GT80 didn't have the Sabre module, but it's supposed to be a high impedance match for high end headphones, so low impedance headphones will "hiss".
Try headphones with 250-600 ohm impedance, most buds, gaming, and other headphones are 32 ohm these days to match mobile devices.
Use the standard audio out for now, it worked well for me.Last edited: Jul 9, 2016stank0 and mason2smart like this. -

Help. I want my sticks to be bigger than his sticks.

I don't know. What is it exactly you don't like about Win10? Besides being spyware
I quite like it. Almost as much as W7. I completely skipped the 8th season.
Just didn't like the gui.

It's not "hiss" It's hard to explain the atrocity coming out of this. Imagine heavily over-processed sound where the effects (explosions, shooting...) are accentuated and speech is distorted and sounds like cancelled. (think active noise cancelling) but still (barely) audible.
I don't have any earphones that require to be driven by headphone amp and that MIGHT be the case but I kinda doubt it. But I'm known to be wrong here and there.

You could have chosen Windows 7 / 8.1 for your build, since you had a boutique build. You still can
It's the whole picture, not any one thing, although there are enough individual problems that when put together make it a no go for me.
The bad way MS treats people, lying about removing the intrusive monitoring and telemetry back to MS - MS were supposed to remove it from the shipping OS, they didn't.
The bad way MS treats people, making updates and driver installations mandatory, mucking up fixes from vendors that get overwritten by MS, by default - which is how 90% of the users will run it.
The bad way MS treats people, forcing Windows 10 upgrade, causing loss of control and loss of use for many that find that Windows 10 isn't well running on their computer.
The bad way MS treats people, making change after change after change to the UI, constantly stressing out the people that need an easy to use UI to maintain productivity.
The bad way MS treats people, forcing ads and application installs onto their property, and this is just the start, it's going to get worse - pre-loaded suites of crap you don't want, don't need, won't use.
The bad way MS treats people, all done as a little insult - a small degree of abuse at a time, making it just acceptable enough for insensitive innocents to be taken advantage of in bite sized loss of control and freedom.
Windows 10 has no single or combined benefit that makes up for the bad way MS is treating people.
@zziplex - re: Windows 10 Upgrade from perfectly working Windows install.
Nothing is free, MS says the upgrade to Windows 10 was free...they are lying again. It's got a cost - you voluntarily agreed to let MS abuse you, mistreat you, invade your privacy, and all for nothing - for that Windows 10 Upgrade.
You already had Windows, working well, doing fine, good for many years. You got nothing and gave away everything.
But, you've done it now, you agreed to the EULA, no going back now, you have Windows 10, for better or worse.
All you can do now is to try to lock it down, put as much under your control as you can, and remain vigilant moving forward to keep it under your control - MS isn't going to stop taking now.
Have fun

It's a new module to me, I haven't used it, but as described it's a high impedance headphone amp built-in. If there is software that's doing additional processing, I would try to remove it or disable it, until you get clean sound.
See if you can borrow a high impedance headphone during your travels, have some music or program material ready to A/B between Sabre / Audio out to see if matching at 250ohm or higher helps.stank0 likes this.
