No, I had good food :)

You think this is a joke?

    I am quite serious.

Haven't you been watching and keeping up to date with MS antics over the last year since before the release of Windows 10?

Your agreement to the EULA terms gives permission to MS to do what they want on your computer.

Now you are going to deny MS the ability to gain a return on their investment in your computer, giving you the free OS upgrade?

You are going back on your promise to MS by blocking their access to their computer resources? :p :D

Hey, I don't care to argue with you about this, what is clear to me isn't currently clear to you. That's fine.

You asked, I responded. You can ignore it, or make a note of it for future reference.

    Until then, have fun :)

Yeah, and so it begins :)

Be sure and tally up all the downsides you find as you go, the human memory can't keep many in mind at the same time, and you will soon forget - only to come to a summary of "not bad", when it is indeed, quite bad.

And, note all the hours you spend installing, locking down, debugging, and configuring and re-installing your new "free" OS, those are all hours you could have been doing something useful, on your original Windows installation

I will give you a hint.

If you wake up to find yourself surrounded by a swamp full of alligators, the best way to exit a swamp full of alligators is to deal with one alligator at a time, until you are safely back on shore.

The solution isn't to order another truck-load of alligators  :p :D

raid 0 score with registry tweak for cpu power performance, along with write cache enabled, ctate/ core parking tweak etc. http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/7553/samsung-950-pro-pcie-gen-3x4-nvme-ssd-raid-report/index5.html

as for the registry tweak itself, win7/8/10 are all a bit different i think, heres one with 8 and 8.1

I just re-installed the whole thing. Something just didn't feel right. For example 3dmarkl wouldn't run (3dmark11 and vantage were running ok) I couldn't install MSI True Color utility for some reason. I didn't use "Onme Button Install" from the DVD but rather installed all drivers and utilities one by one, restarting as prompted.
Did you know GT80 has a reset button for resettinmg the CMOS? Found out the hard way. Have to disconmnect the cmos battery and then push the rese6t button with a paperclip for 30 secs. Just for future reference if someone would be so stupid like me and try to guess memory timings. LOL

Yeah. That wasn't the case. My computer wouldn't even go to bios. No matter how long I held the power button ;) I even tried to the "12 second method", that's where you disconnect the power, hold the power button for 12 second, which is supposed to reset the bios. That didn't work.
Good people at Xotic pc techsupp told me about this little secret reset switch after they wanted me to RMA it first. I also had to disconnect the cmos battery I didn't even think this laptop has (since the main battery is permanently connected), for the reset switch to have any effect.
I was sweating like a farm animal for over an hour as everyone can surely imagine.
I didn't do anything even remotely so stupid for YEARS! I don't know what come over me. Probably getting senile early. LOL

What is core parking, how does it affect ssd performance, and how does it affect battery, and why is it so hard to get to if it is "beneficial" to turn off?

yep well, that small vent as long as it has enough depth of copper fins and a decent powerful fan on 5/12v (likely 5v) it'll take another chunk temperature out of CPU, which would give me more reason to buy it with new ssd and gpu, hopefully cpu will be a tiny bit improvement..

as for core parking thats to do with cpu. higher clock and faster ur cpu is running, other hardware mostly benefits as latency is reduced hence better performance, downside is drain more power. as for the registry tweak, thats mostly window doing power adjustment via software (window is a software too) and limits power to rest of your computer.

disable those, u can toggle off cstate on/off at any time with just throttlestop. save power with cstate on and have power box checked in 1 profile, while performance profile have power box and cstate unchecked.

But, it keeps happening... maybe try the power out, cmos battery out, reset button method?

Maybe @stank0 can walk you through the process, post some photo's, since he just went through it.

You need to be careful removing the cmos battery from the holder, the GT80 one was fragile.

Didn't your vendor provide the faster memory? They should have set it up to run at full speed for you... maybe ask them about that. :)

If they couldn't get it to run, then they shouldn't have sold it to you. Only the fastest recognized and running memory should be sold to you.

not sure what you're trying to do.

crappylake (kabylake) if it comes with speedshift, optane support and finally turbo boost 3.0 then i'll bite LOL, or time to wait for next node cannonalake :). waiting forever these days @hmscott

it'll be a decent jump for the most part. cpu 15-17% increase core per core, speed shift overall snappiness and fingers crossed turbo 3.0 and hopefully it work as i wanted it to be.

gpu any gpu is fine tbh, 980m or 1080m dont really care much it'll be big jump over my 780m.

SSDs will have half the latency and double the sequential throughput from two sata 6gbps in raid 0.

ram will be up from 2133mhz 32gb to hopefully 3000mhz 64gb.

two sata 3Gbps raid 0 becomes two sata 6Gbps raid 0. pretty sweet.

will it be enough to power the gt80 when im not near a plug?... The gt80 supposedly only has a 5,500 mah battery so this could technically quadruple the battery life of the laptop if im not mistaken.

it might, it might not. tbh i wouldnt feel so safe around that thing for a number of reasons.

assuming that thing is 12v so our charger would work i dont want that thing to burn my laptop and my house down if something goes wrong lol. laptop battery is already pretty scary tbh.

lmao nvm upon reading it, its 100w output, thats puny compare to our gaming laptop 330w LOL. gl with that.

I'd been considering going to Win 10, when my GT80 arrives, it'll have Win8. I hated Win 8 when it came out, dumped it after a month. Been using Win 7 on my computers ever since. Are Win 7 drivers available for the GT80?

Windows 8.1 is a bit better, but I ran with with ClassicMenu to give me a start menu and disable the corners metro activation and booted right into the desktop, so I never see the Metro interface.

It depends on the model GT80, the Haswell and Broadwell ones have Windows 7 driver sections, not sure about the Skylake ones.

But, the parts are otherwise the same so you could pull drivers from the earlier GT80 Haswell/Broadwell models and use those, you might need to dig for additional vendor drivers for parts not used in older GT80's, and check the driver sections for GT72S/GT72 as well.

Here is the driver section for GT80 SLI-263 Broadwell, with a Win7 64 section:
    https://us.msi.com/Laptop/support/GT80-Titan-SLI-GTX-980M-SLI-5.html#down-driver

And, check out post #1 in the telemetry and Windows 10 Upgrade denial thread to get a list of what KB's to avoid in Windows 7/8.1:

Windows7/8 - Updates to hide to prevent Windows 10 Upgrade / Disable Telemetry

Yep, but i believe the newer hw will have less and less driver for win7....
I'm not sure it's the right choice, then.

It will vary by device, but Windows 7 should still work. If not then Windows 8.1 is a choice. You have downgrade rights on Windows 10 Pro to Windows 7/8.1 Pro as part of the Windows license, it's worth looking into and taking advantage of.

Just ran 3DMark Firestrike as not done so far a long time. As expected for my spec? (completely stock, no tweaks, Win8.1, 365.19 drivers). CPU hit 83c during test (max fans).

    Intel Core i7-4720HQ
    16GB System RAM
    2x Nvidia GeForce 980M (SLI)

    Overall: 13288
    Graphics: 19280
    Physics: 9431
    Combined: 4890

EDIT: A slightly better Physics score as a result of turning off OpenHardWareMonitor first.
