In terms of Performance the p870dmg (strictly Prema edition) takes the win. It is more efficient, you have more control, it runs cooler, screen and mouse is better. The only thing the gt80 has over it is the mechanical keyboard with NO heat under it but the p870 isn't bad in this area it's just the design of the GT80.

The p870dm is literally a laptop with desktop performance without giving anything up.

Keep in mind that both are more than capable machines. With that being said I favor my Sky X9E because I have owned and used both and the members on this form have taken the p870dm capabilities to a whole new level beyond what MSI will even think about.

so i see going from 18 to 17" doesn't bother you. if only msi would adopt desktop cpu instead of 6820hk.

Actually that was my biggest fear and after about 1 day I didn't even notice, all I noticed was the smooth sharp gsync panel.

im guessing i'd have to make that sacrifise as well and go for clevo if gx800 and gt83 isnt super impressive. tbh i think gx800 and gt83 has quite a bit of improvement over their old gen which is a good thing, will have to see though.

another biggest reason i kinda have to go for 17" lappy now is because slidenjoy. that +2 display 1 usb 3.0 thing is max size at 17" only so it'll match.

ughh i just quickly went over gx800 preview and took a quick look at cpuz screenshot.. 4.3ghz at 1.45v.. just wtf kind of garbage binned cpu intel is pushing onto us. lower quality so they can save the money and have the cpu die thus we buy new computer more often, especially mobo would need a replacement too. i wouldnt be surprised next battery will be soldered too.. lol

1.45v cpu will definitely not last. my m18x r2 3940x is 4.3ghz at 1.23v and i considered that pretty high already.

looks like i will have to rethink buying gx800 or gt83. clevo kabylake coming soon pls.

i would not consider a change if you have any of the gt80's.... performance improvement will be the same (except some benchmarks).... but if you like ot burn money....

i dont have gt80s. which is what made me interested in gt83. then again reality sure sucks and 1.45v at just 4.3ghz sure is a wake up call to me not to buy it again. 6700k at that voltage likely can do 4.8 to 4.9ghz some even 5.0..

i mean seriously, at that voltage such low frequency no wonder asus will need water cooling for their laptop. adding additional cooling module in the gt83 would not help at all. and here i was thinking along the line 4.3ghz at 1.35v but naw its 1.455 LOL destroyed my hope completely. bga garbage as expected of intel, all about money and selling junk to profit more.

Realtek is the Audio driver software, we all use that, unless you did a "clean install" of Windows and forgot you needed it, then you are running the generic driver for audio.

Nahimic is an audio shaping tool that provides some equalization to get better sound out of the mis-shapen acoustics that laptops can deliver.

If you run without Nahimic, you will see what the flat sound is like.

You can use the Windows audio shaping and equalization tools to improve the sound, but it won't have as wide of a range as the Nahimic app provides.

You could uninstall Nahimic and try the Creative Labs stuff, like MSI used to provide before Nahimic.

Several people have reported it works for them, but that was before the GT80S, so it might not support the other audio amp output correctly, or even work well with the current realtek driver hardware.

    What are you using?

Take photo of the bottom of the CD, angle the light so we can see the imperfections causing the failure.

Are you sure you are inserting the disc's evenly and all the way - all the way around the hole - on the spindle?

Making sure to do this helps them balance and not wobble at speed.

That disk is all scratched up. If you can get a CD polishing tool that would likely fix it so you can remove the diffraction disruptions, and read the data.

You might be able to use a liquid to "fill in the gaps" to make them more transparent, I used to have that kind of stuff around, but haven't needed it for many years.

You have to be careful when polishing out the scratches, you can go too far and damage the foil underneath or make it worse - some abrasives will stress crack the plastic, and fill in the cracks till it reaches the foil, then it's all over.

The quickest thing to try is to spit on it a few times, and polish it with your "clean" shirt, avoiding hitting metal or plastic buttons or snaps that will add scratches.

I actually did waste a bunch of time once on a badly damaged optical disc, and cleaned it up to the point where the data was pulled off intact, but still failed chksum'ing... turns out the original file was damaged / corrupted by a file system that failed fsck.

Fortunately it wasn't the original copy, and we could get a good copy elsewhere.

Such experiences give you the knowledge what to try in what order before wasting time on the wrong problem  :D

Now I look for an original source to get a good copy first, before wasting time recovering bad media. It works about 80% of the time, or more.

The most recently used stuff I can recommend, I know it's still being sold at Target where I got it, is actually a screen cleaner that hides scratches when applied and is long lasting. I still use it for phone, tablet, watch, glasses, and other screens.

I have used it on a laptop screen too, but it's expensive and I have cheaper easier cleaning wipes for that.

Screen Cleaner - Whoosh! Screen Shine Go
    http://www.target.com/p/screen-cleaner-whoosh-screen-shine-go/-/A-16836575

Maybe you can pick some up locally or order it online, or find an equivalent.

I used it once a few months ago on a scratched Redbox disc, and it fixed the freezing video problems.

    16836575_Alt02.jpg

    http://whoosh.com/products/whoosh-screen-shine-go

That disc looks pretty bad, but it's worth a try to clean it with something like this first, before investing in a real scratch buffer set up. I will check and see if there is anything easily available, these days there is much demand for it.

Although I'm not comfortable with the mechanism they use, the elements used are correct, and the "SkipDr rejuvenating fluid" is the kind of liquid that will fill in scratches and help polish out the diffraction occlusions.

Here is a google shopping search, maybe get a full kit, or just try the replenishment kit to get the liquids.

Be careful, some of those recovery programs "recover what they can", but don't get everything. There may be stuff it couldn't get, and didn't say anything.

You do know what you were expecting to find? All of it?

You might want to get with another program(s).

The reason I say this is it happened to me. I thought I recovered everything, and found it wasn't even 1% of what was there.

A program can't read through CD read errors, but it can ignore them. If you have scratches keeping the head from reading through to the data, you can't recover that by using software trickery. :)

You need to herd your cats better ;)

Use something they don't like the taste of, you can mix up some "Cat Off!" Repellent and let the cat get a load of that to discourage it.

    Friendly (but Effective) Cat Repellent
    http://www.instructables.com/id/Friendly-but-Effective-Cat-Repellent/

Not too sure about it being screen safe... maybe use it on the bezels and keep it off the screen until you can do a safe screen test.

Dishsoap drizzled on the counters trains them to not jump up. Maybe using some in a heavy dilution to wipe the screen might help too.

Cat / Dog / Pet hair is the number one dust bunny builder, and the reason I recommend putting on mesh blocking over intake vents. Stop it from going inside before it gets in and balls up -> blocking air flow.

I was also thinking of adding a 1tb sad but I want to stay under $250. I'm a fan of the Samsung 850 ssd's but they are often overpriced...

My 2.5in ssd is only 256 gb so I can either use my free m.2 slot or my 2.5 in slot. Anyone have any suggestions on what to get or where I can find any deals (I'm also a student so I can try to get student discounts...)?

Ok I took apart my laptop how do I clean it? Is there any internal damage?
I am finding a little bit of odd black dust on stuff...

And a a little hair throughout...

Odd white dots on the ali cable and a possible perforation in it

Do any heatsinks look messed up?

There's these rectangular things with what appear to be sharpie slashes on them

There are just hairs in that one spot near the memory. Oddly there should be no hairs in the case, as there is a mesh over the vents, on the inside, so how did they get sucked in there?

Stop the cat from laying on your laptops. They drop flakes of skin and debris just like we do, and that will fall into the mechanical keyboard - collecting over time.

You could use a damp cloth to wipe away the hairs that you can reach, like those visible near the RAM.

Do you have canned air for blowing dust out? Get some, a 3 or 4 pack from Frys's next time you are there. Put the laptop on edge, leaning the interior down toward the desk, and blow out any dust or debris in the chassis. It won't be much but as long as you pulled off the skins, it's a couple of minutes work to do it.

If you can reach the vents, the mesh, use that same damp cloth to wipe away anything caught in the mesh - both sides.

It doesn't look like a lot of stuff collected yet, so no problems with heat from dust or hair. :)

You could blow air into the exhaust ports and see if any hair / dust blows out - do it with the skins off so you can see if anything blows inside too.

Stop letting the cats sit on your laptop, mine don't, and it wasn't difficult to stop them. One or two lifts off and a firm "No", and they got the message.

I used my fingers and a computer vac. My dad closed it and lost a screw in there but I got it out

Yeah, dropping screws in laptops while they are open is like dropping bread and having it land on the butter, it's gonna happen.

Good thing you got it out, worst thing ever metal screws rolling around open connections.

When you finally can RMA the laptop, don't forget to mention that the temps went up 10C, and you think the heatpipes / cooling hardware got physically tweaked. Ask for a repaste job too.

Maybe use Rivatuner and MSI Afterburner to de-tune a bit by running games no higher FPS than screen refresh rate. That will drop the temps for now.
