yea after thinking about it, with such a major change wouldnt benefit them as it cost more to re-work the entire thing. also it doesnt explain them opening the hole at back of chassis now i took a look at gt73, the back two large vents is similar to that video.

well if thats the case, thumbs up to msi, only need to see internal design for gt83 how many heatpipes for that cpu, better not skimp out on it, otherwise no point buying crappy cooling with a crappy bga that runs super hot.

also that countdown, 8 days for gt83 or gt73?

I don't remember where I saw the photo, but there are a lot of pipes and the third fan is slimmer than the other two. Hope it helps, since 1080 SLi would be quite demanding and it seems that Clevo are going vapor chamber for their 1080 SLi.

Is there going to be any GTX1080M? At 1080p I am still happy with my 980MSLI GT80, but what concerns me more is whether the "easy to upgrade" claim holds any truth.

We don't actually know for sure until Pascal Laptops are actually announced, but the 'm''s at the end of the number might be gone, leaving the core name 1060, 1070, 1080 for desktop and mobile - mobile tuned with differing numbers of core elements and frequency from the same named GPU for the desktop.

The naming is suggesting that the 980m SLI will get the 1070 SLI upgrade, while the 980 desktop mobile SLI will get the 1080 SLI upgrade.

It's unknown what the 965m SLI and 970m SLI will be offered, but hopefully the same 1070 SLI upgrade.

The GT80 upgrade ain't gonna be easy for 99% of the people, but hopefully MSI will offer an upgrade RMA service - you send your GT80 in with $ and you get back an upgraded GT80 - that easy :D

I don't see how the GTX980 GT80S can get an upgrade to 1080s unless a) they unlock the EC or b) they upgrade them to GT83s. I predict MSI will simply shrug and only offer an upgrade to 1070s, which is practically a sidegrade for 980 owners.

it should be pretty obvious how business operates, though if lucky someone might be able to do it, or msi might jsut release new bios version for it.

time to sell it and upgrade bro, new laptop might have 3 fans and it'll be legit as long as silicon is good.

Lol my parents told me I'm stuck with whatever laptop the college I end up going to recommends... I find college recommendations tend to be awful. Like crappy lenovos. They then usually load their own images on the computer and have a "repair center" on campus... They seem overpriced and underspec and look like ugly bricks...

If they had reliable computers they wouldn't need the repair shop...
I worry about privacy too... And the issues of everyone having the same computer

Optane support starts with the Series 200 motherboard chipset, and Kabylake CPU's bring matching Optane support - but only if the Series 200 chipset is used.

That's one reason I may wait for the follow on notebook's to the first Pascal notebook releases, to get Optane chipset/CPU support in my next high end notebook.

The other reason to wait is if I see a bad trend in implementation issues in the first generation Pascal notebooks I will wait as well.

I am hoping that the first Pascal Notebook owners will figure out a way to use Windows 7/8.1, and a notebook that allows that will make it to the top of my list.

Actually I'm curious how the upgrade will look like for older titans with i7-4720hq. I kind of doubt that it has enough power to utilise 2x1070 if current specs of GPU'S will be like that. Maybe 2x1060 but desktop variant of it doesn't support sli.
MSI promised us that we will be able to upgrade with 2 generations but didn't promise that cpu's will be powerful enough for upgrades :D

hi guys, i just updated my Windows 10 x64 Home to the newest build (anniversary update) and MSI Dragon Gaming Center no longer working. Anyone here have the same problem?
i tried compatibility mode but still no go. FYI, i use DGC to quickly switch between power plan and monitor my cpu/gpu temperature.

oh, and btw, anyone here use the MSI True Color? Which color space you prefer, Native or Rec 709 or sRGB?

It should be enough to help the new Pascal SLI GPU's to well outperform your existing GPU's :)

It's possible it's enough, not too much, but enough.

The CPU's across all the GT80's have only been a little different, within 10-15%.

Please upload your comparison, before / after, gaming benchmarks when you do your Pascal upgrade :)

    That's not very optimistic ;)

The upgrade can consist of the parts needed to bring the GT80S 980 SLI into spec for supporting the 1080 SLI, it probably won't be cheap, but MSI did promise the upgrade.

    And, as part of the upgrade, you will get 2x PSU adapter + 2 x 230w PSU's - or maybe just 1x 330w - even better than the GT83's leaked 2x 230w PSU's.

An upgrade worth doing for both the owner, and MSI.

Has anyone read these or similar articles?

    http://www.infoworld.com/article/31...d-advertising-creeps-into-windows-10-pro.html

I just got my GT80S Titan SLI-274, and Winblows automatically downloaded the Anniversary crap update.

I like having granular control of my O/S through group policy editor but couldn't find a GT80S with WIN10 Pro. I still have a USB drive with WIN10 Pro ISO from earlier this year, so does anyone know if I'll mess up anything functionality-wise by wiping the O/S drive of WIN10 Home and installing my Pro version pre-Anniversary update?

At that point I'll just block Windows from updating using something like O&O ShutUp10.

It's all new for everyone, so you are on the cutting edge with Windows 10's antics, just like everyone else. :)

I would do an image backup of your current boot drive with Macrium Reflect, or any other image backup/restore tool you have experience with, and make a restore USB 3.0 flash boot drive to recover back to what you have now should something go wrong.

Do the install, but make sure the laptop is offline so updates can't sneak in while you are configuring. Pre-download all the Windows 10 versions of drivers, apps, etc from MSI support site and vendor support sites - best for Wifi/Network drivers.

Then make all the tweaks you need, and once you are happy with it offline - do an image backup of the boot drive before going online, so you can recover back to a pristine configuration should MS sneak through updates you don't want.

Have you considered using the MS downgrade option for Windows 10 Pro? You could upgrade your current install with a Windows 10 Pro upgrade, then image it to preserve it and then install Windows 8.1 Pro or Windows 7 Pro x64.

Why fight with Windows 10 to no real benefit now, let MS work out the kinks and use your Windows 10 Pro license later when Windows 10 is properly cooked.

All of the GT80S parts should have Windows 7/8.1 drivers available, and you could live nice and stable until Windows 10 settles down in a year or two :)

Lol just talked with MSI support and they claim my laptop was not registered properly... Shows up as registered on the MSI site with full warranty + 3 months... Since it says 3 months I would assume acd warranty would be activated?

If your GT80S shows up as registered with a date of registration and an expiration date for the warranty, then it's registered.

What is MSI saying is wrong with the registration, and what do they want you to do to fix it?

The +3 months was a bonus for my GT80 that was added because I registered within 2 weeks of purchase, I assume the same for you as we discussed that back when you received your GT80S.

The accidental damage coverage is supposed to be part of the normal warranty.

Email him what? To send him something, or to find out how to fix it?

Did you attach a photo/copy of your dated purchase receipt?

That's the only thing I can think of that would be missing or cause an issue.

In my registration it shows a little thumbnail of the receipt, and I can look at it. As long as you can see the serial number and date, it should be valid.

What do they say is missing from the image?

I would expand the image, and use snipping tool to grab it and the surrounding registration info, highlight the date and serial number on the photo, and send that to him, showing it is already there.

Yeah. I've ran into some minor glitches after installing the Anniversary update. Nahimic refused to open - solved with new sound driver and new version of Nahimic, SCM did n't want to open either, looked to me like there was a conflict between it and MSI True Color (I have it in Gaming mode which I tuned to my liking to answer your other question) - solved by uninstalling and re-installing both SCM and True Color. Both work fine now. I never had any problems with Dragon Gaming Center after the update so I don't know but I would try uninstall and reinstall for starters.

Nah, keep it and get it upgraded, it's a great laptop.

What else would you buy that's better??

Plus, you would have one more GPU upgrade available in it's service life after the Pascal upgrade :)

That's up to you and your funding source :)

Remember, the GT83 *requires* 2x 230w PSU's to be plugged in to operate, which means carrying around all those wires and 2x PSU's + the dual PSU adapter everywhere you want to go.

GT80S 1070 SLI is likely 2x the GPU power of the GT80S 980 SLI, that really should be enough ;)

    1080 sli?
    but would 1070 power throttle?
Wouldn't a 330 watt brick still be sufficient for 1080 sli when on the go? Would only probably need one active 1080...

It's all speculation until they ship, and are in users hands for evaluation.

I don't know if there will be a >330w power requirement for the GT80S upgraded with 1070 SLI, that could be as well.

The 2x 230w power = 460w, which is well over 330w. As you recall the GT80S 980 SLI was right on the border with it's single 330w.

    You could purchase a GT83VR + a 330w or two to see how it performs with 1 330w, and 2 330w power supplies. IDK why MSI spec'd 2 x 230w instead of 2 x 330w so you could run with 1 330w if desired.

It's at least worth asking MSI what the upgrade to 1070 SLI will cost - when they can tell you, sometime after the announcements.

Why spend $5000 on a laptop that's only 30% faster than your upgraded 1070 SLI?

You won't get 1/2 your $ back on the GT80S 980m SLI now...

maybe, maybe not lol. theres also the stupid coffee lake donno. well its worth the wait, coffee would have 6c 14nm and cannonlake is 6c 10nm, assuming intel is giving mobile some decent SKUS and chips. optane and ddr4 will have pricing dropped by that point, worth.

Hey guys, my computer has screwed up again. This morning when I turned on my computer, it wouldn't get past the MSI logo on startup and would simply shut off after a few seconds. I have no idea what to do and I need help as quickly as possible. Thanks in advance.

Did you buy it used, or is it new?

Contact MSI support, first register your laptop if you haven't already:
    https://register.msi.com/home/login

Does the screen flicker change by moving the screen lid, without completely closing, does it make it worse / better / change at all?

If physical movement like that causes flickering, it's a loose connection or cable.

If you are getting graphics artifacts that go away by sleeping (shutting the lid) and waking it up, it's reseting the video driver and that is clearing the problem.

That could be a flaky video card, either memory or core.

Neither of those problems are something you can cure on your own.

You could try using DDU to uninstall the Nvidia driver, and then reboot and install the latest Nvidia driver downloaded from Nvidia.

If that doesn't work you could restore your laptop from the recovery partition - if you have one - or a fresh install of Windows.

If none of the software remedy's work, then RMA to MSI.
