What ads? I don't see any ads in start menu. I used to have some games offers in the start menu but I turned it off. Don't ask me how, I don't remember. Somewhere in settings I believe.
The update did broke a few things, but that I easily remedied by uninstalling and re-installing these few broken things (SCM and True Color were arguing.. that's about it).
Today though, I find out the Killer Software service isn't running, rendering the suite unusable. WiFi was still working fine though. That's why it took me a few days to notice that.
I tried to uninstall and re-install the usual way, but that didn't help. I had to uninstall the Killer driver from the Device Manager first, then uninstall the Killer software suite, download newest Killer software suite (from Killer website) and install them and then B/T drivers. Now it works like it should. Bunch of restarts though ;)

Edit: Ohyeah. Nahimic was broken too. There is a new version of Nahimic software and the audio driver.

Not interested in that kind of ":bling". Lights, leds, signs, logos... don't do anything for me. In fact, I'd prefer a totally plain look. It's like those youngsters, who paint racing stripes on their Hondas with cofee can exhaust pipes so they feel like they have a race car. It's not important how it looks and sounds from outside if it's powered with 113 HP motor.

Fingerprint reader would be nice though. Just for convenience.

    Interesting thing I've found.
Gtx 980m and 970m launched on October 7, 2014. Same day MSI uploaded guide how to upgrade your gt72:

Maybe they will upload video guide how to upgrade gt80 on the launch day of mobile pascal cards and we will see what kind of upgrade options we will get, how the internals will change.

Well that remedy is trivial. Open Sizing Options (MSI app) and set it to "Extra Small" (100%). Problem solved. ;)

Still reading up on the details for all the new models, here's the complete list for MSI, including the GT73VR which is the "new GT80 light" redesign and including the GT83VR which is the "new GT80 heavy" redesign.

So I haven't been following the updates lately..
Can someone answer these for me please?
    1. How will the GT83VR be better than the GT80?
    2. What of the new Nvidia cards, will they be compatible with a GT80 ?

I believe only 1070 can be compatible because:

    1. 1060 doesn't support sli.
    2. 1080 has additional power connection.

We need to wait for GPU upgrade info from MSI. If you like, open a ticket with MSI requesting GPU upgrade info, so you will be in the queue to find out asap, and be able to schedule the upgrade as an RMA - if that is offered.

The 1080 puts out a lot of heat, so it will likely only be available as an SLI upgrade for the GT80S 980 SLI models.

The rest of us will likely get 1070 SLI as the offered upgrade, which should be pretty awesome going from any SLI combo, 965m, 970m, 980m.

Hopefully we will hear soon :)

And, if you haven't already seen it, the tease intro pre-release

In case you aren't already aware, the GT73VR is the 1070 SLI replacement for the GT80S 980m SLI, and the GT83VR is the 1080 SLI replacement for the GT80S 980 SLI.

That's why I like using the wristpad, it blocks the flashy lights, very distracting on many notebooks, not so with the GT80 series.

The case is new for the GT73VR and GT83VR, so who knows how the indicator lights fall into view now.

Holy! That's exactly what happened. I have a gel pad that was blocking them. Kinda sucks tho cause I would have liked those lights right above the keyboard, where that useless strip is now.

Also, can someone confirm there are no USB 3.1 drivers for WIN10 Pro? I just did a fresh install, the MSI Utility disc installed all the drivers, but I go into Device Manager and under USB Controllers I only see Intel USB 3.0 host controller :(

I go to the MSI drivers page and see USB 3.1 drivers for WIN7. So what the flush is going on?

the vents in the back of the 83 look smaller than those in the 73 as the sides are filled in... Don't like that square vs having the whole vent open...

No titan thingy on the back of the 83? also the lid looks pretty much the same for the 83 but not for the 73... Seems like the 83 had no real external upgrades except some color on the plate in the back and red outlines?

Pretty sure GT83 will be the only model with 1080 in SLI. The video showing the GT83 shows that it is actually thicker than the current titan, so I have little hope for anything over a 1070. If we do even get that as an option.

lame. 1070 sli is not enough of an upgrade for 980 sli owners. I would rather they give us the psu adapter and new firmware than gpu upgrades at this point.

I know what you mean. Im seriously hoping the extra thickness is only for the CPU fan, and that magically we can still fit two 1080s there. I mean, if a 980 fit in there why wouldnt the 1080? Heh.

We probably wont hear much news about upgrade kits for the following weeks or even months anyways...

I do hope we also get to use the nifty new adapter and new firmware. 1070s isnt a bad upgrade if it has enough oc headroom. But im still sad about the implications of a thicker titan haha.

980m or 980 sli with some intense overclocking, coupled with 660 watts of available power = our gpu upgrade, for a small price! I would def skip the 10 series if I could take my 980s another 20%+ further

You need to simplify things for people when you are talking with a support department, and especially when they might be reading/writing English as a 2nd/3rd language.

Just ask for an RMA to repair your laptop.

Give a straightforward *short* list of things to repair.

That's it, don't go crazy with the background or explaining unrelated items.

As that can defocus their already tenuous focus on trying to help you.

When that happens, they give up, which is what you just experienced.

Don't call, don't include a bunch of crap with the ticket, just a short list of things to fix, and request an RMA to send it in for those repairs.

And, you shouldn't ask them for an ACD repair, let them figure it out. You are under warranty. If they give push back on the repair under warranty, then mention ACD and if that fails, ask for the lowest repair price - you are a student.

The GPU upgrade should have been a separate ticket, submitted after your RMA # info was received.

Try again in week, send on a different day, if you sent the first one during the week, send the next one of the weekend - so you get different people reading the request. Or, better yet, have XoticPC handle the RMA.

Why haven't you called XoticPC to handle the RMA?? That's why you buy from a dealer like that so they can act as the go between for repairs - they do this all the time and know how the finesse the situation. Let them handle it.

The keyboard on the GT73VR is RGB, but I don't think the GT83VR is any different, they showed the software to change colors, but it was always Red in the videos, just like it is on the GT80/GT80S, noone showed RGB color changes for the GT83VR.

Wait until we get a good video on the GT83VR that shows one way or the other.

Yeah, I'm aware of these. But they're not GT80 specific. Sifting through hundreds of irrelevant results by people with different computers is kinda waste of time to me.
The main purpose of running benchmarks, at least for me, is to make sure my settings and configurations are good as they possibly can. Comparing completely different computers wouldn't make much sense.
For general Richard's measuring... sure. ;)

It's what we do here, it passes the time.

There is a 3dmark Fire Strike thread, lots of posts for comparison :)

MSI GT80 3dMark Scores, test and tune
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/msi-gt80-3dmark-scores-test-and-tune.773245/

It shows how little performance changes from CPU upgrades, vs 980m SLI - they are all good.

The highest scores are from running Svet vbios's, but that's a risk to do...

    Have fun :)

Pascal GPUS will never be avaible as an mxm upgrade for the gt80, i asked some info at the MSI support and this is the answer, now i think that this is the end for the high end notebooks and i'm very disappointed because i bought this **** only some months ago and is already OLD

    "Hello DanieleGiangregorio,
Welcome to MSI Online Notebook Customer Service Center, and we are very glad to serve you.
We are going to release Nvidia N17 generation products, but for our current Notebook products with GTX 8XX, GTX 9XX graphic cards, a direct MXM card upgrade to the next generation (N17) graphics is not recommended.
The next generation (N17) graphics has huge improvement in terms of performance, thus it also requires different motherboard design/power/thermal configurations.
For the best N17 generation graphic experience, N17 generation thermal module and power solution is not compatible with old generation.
Please buy the whole new N17 system instead of MXM upgrade if you want to experience new graphic performance.
Thank you and have a good day."
