Someone needs to escalate this that knows how to manage the support tiers to get to management that can get through to the right people.
I've already sold my GT80 or I would be doing this myself.
Hopefully that upgrade program is already underway, it's just not time to push through for announcement and shipping, and so the support people aren't clued in yet.
MSI would be making a huge mistake not following through with the promised upgrades.
Or, at least making a major Credit toward the purchase of a new GT73/GT83; maybe even a trade-in program. -

@hmscott
moving back into our thread
not sure if its worth sending it in at this point cause i have everything i need pretty much working... and theres no upgrade. just have some slight screen warp and slight hole and slight cpu heat.
Parents say their gonna buy me one of those crap college laptops anyways next year when the time comes... -
Send it in and get it fixed.
If not for the sake of this laptop, at least for your sake, learning to follow through on fixing things.
I've meet people that have basket case projects all over, and fix it by starting another one, only to never finish it. Not pretty. Very sad. But, then again, they seem to like it, and see nothing wrong with it, go figuremason2smart likes this. -

Contact Xotic, as you paid them to handle such things for you; to act as the go between getting stuff done with MSI.
Xotic has many years of experience with MSI getting stuff through repair - let them do what they do best and get that GT80S beast 100% againLast edited: Aug 20, 2016mason2smart likes this. -

Only the GT83VR has the 1080 SLI available. You can also get 1070 SLI in the GT83VR.
The GT73 gets a single 1070, or single 1080, or 1070 SLI.
I am considering the GT73 1070 SLI, because I want a better screen than a plain 1080 60hz, like in the GT83...
It would be awesome to get a 1440p 120hz/144hz+ screen, in any laptopmason2smart likes this. -
MS is pushing for multi-gpu support from game developers for DX12, so it should become more prevalent. -
Pick a nice light non-gaming one to carry all day to school / work.
You don't want to carry that monster 18" around all day, really you don't.
I don't mind carrying it to and from work, that's only 2 times to pack and unpack.
If I had to go in and out of my bag a dozen times a day for classes, lunch, breaks, etc, it would be too much.
You could sneak in a 1060 into the new one for school, for "science".
Maybe an MSI GS43 or GS63

Prob. get something 17 inches for college cause i prob. wouldnt hav a desktop anyways. or get a gt83 and a tablet for some sort of lan based on-campus remote desktop....
Problem is the colleges have their own ideas on laptops and offer "packages" with "support" for when you buy the computer through them. They then provide their own images (privacy alert) and software which they get "at a discount"... problem is this leads to everyone having the same laptop... Ever look at college photos and see everyone with the same computer... leads to people covering them with stickers so they know whose is whose.hmscott likes this. -

go to the bottom and read the bottom most post.
They have some sort of "on campus repair" yet if you go http://dotcio.rpi.edu/services/laptops/lenovo-issues-battery-pack-recall
you will notice that they dont offer instant replacements on-campus for those that bought laptops but instead require you to contact lenovo.hmscott likes this. -

No more 2d 3d. -
Pascal was supposed to be here in Q1 2016 according to many rumors, and look how long it really took to deliver.
It'll be Xmas and after before all the new releases have the bugs worked out, Windows 10 and Nvidia will still be madly patching bugs, and it will be 1 year later than expected.
Buy now, play games now.
Wait, and you won't be gaming until you stop waiting
-
You would do better with a workstation laptop, with a Quadro setup. -
Take something small and light, focus on battery power and weight and price, save the good stuff for home.
You can always take the big one out to party, but don't take it to school, it's just asking for trouble. -
Besides, isn't it already too late to buy the crampus laptop??
Mobile Computing Program (Laptops)
Need to make a last-minute laptop request?
The official deadline for ordering laptops for the Fall 2016 semester was Friday, July 15. However, you may fill out and submit Mobile Computing's late laptop request form if you would still like to purchase one of this year's laptops and participate in the Mobile Computing Program.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANY LAPTOP REQUESTS PLACED THROUGH THIS FORM WILL BE FILLED, BUT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN TIME FOR DISTRIBUTION ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, OR FOR THE START OF FALL CLASSES ON MONDAY, AUGUST 29.
Yeah, it doesn't sound like it's a requirement, just offered for those non-hardware savvy people, you can pick your own.
I would make a VM, and load all the school required software in that, keep your OS install clean and as far away from that school stuff as possible - let it be possible to shutdown their stuff by shutting down the VM with it installed. -

Hi all. I haven't been able to find any help on this so far so I'm hoping someone here may know an answer.
I have GT80 Titan hooked up to a 4K Samsung TV, everything for the last few weeks has been fine. But suddenly yesterday anytime I close the lid, it goes straight back to the lock screen and seems to disconnect from the TV. When I open the lid, the lock screen appears and then then TV connects again.
I double checked in control panel->power options, and I have all settings set to do nothing when I close the lid, so don't know what is going on here.
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful.
Thankshmscott likes this. -
Try only configuring the external display alone, disable the internal display, then you should be able to close the lid.
If you have spanning displays enabled, you could try disabling that instead, and configure the displays independently, not mirrored either. -
I don't know if I've heard of spanning displays (I'm still fairly new at this). Is this something that's part of Windows 10? Also I tried going into display settings and changing it just to display on the TV and turning the laptop screen off but it still locks the computer when I close the lid (unless I should be doing this in another part of Windows?).
Also I completely unplugged the HDMI cable and tried closing the lid like that and it still locks on me, so I guess it's not the connection to the TV?
I appreciate your help so far with this. Such weird problem that seems to just happen out of nowhere.hmscott likes this. -
Then either disable the main display, or try seeing if leaving it active while closing the lid works.
Are you running Windows 10? I refuse to use 10 on my personal computers, so maybe someone with Windows 10 that's made this work can help you.
This might be new behavior in Windows 10 and/or the latest Nvidia drivers.
That is weird, maybe try going down a rev in Nvidia drivers, did MS recently update your video driver? -
I did manage to find an older article of someone having the same issue and then suddenly it corrected itself on its own, so maybe that'll happen for me.
I'll give your idea a try of rolling back the Nvidia drivers and see what happens.
Really appreciate your help though and hopefully if this doesn't work it'll just correct itself for mehmscott likes this. -
Thanks again for your help and hopefully this isn't just a temporary fix. -
