I already asked info to MSI for Pascal upgrade on the GT80 some days ago, this was their answer. Too bad MSI notebooks aren't cheap as to be able to buy one every year. I think now i will buy a desktop PC, i'm very dissatisfied with this notebook considering the price.

    "Hello DanieleGiangregorio,
Welcome to MSI Online Notebook Customer Service Center, and we are very glad to serve you.
We are going to release Nvidia N17 generation products, but for our current Notebook products with GTX 8XX, GTX 9XX graphic cards, a direct MXM card upgrade to the next generation (N17) graphics is not recommended.
The next generation (N17) graphics has huge improvement in terms of performance, thus it also requires different motherboard design/power/thermal configurations.
For the best N17 generation graphic experience, N17 generation thermal module and power solution is not compatible with old generation.
Please buy the whole new N17 system instead of MXM upgrade if you want to experience new graphic performance.
Thank you and have a good day."

"Not recommended" doesn't mean "impossible". I'm still hoping that you spoke to some clueless drone reciting some memo concerning who knows what. Customer service people are known for not knowing anything besides their cuecards. Let's not panic. Yet.

Is certainly a shame, but for people like myself, getting a desktop is not an option. I used to have one, before my son came along. Now my old PC room is his bedroom, and I don't have space for a desktop. Hence the reason I went the laptop route. Expensive yes, but not as expensive as moving into a new house with an extra room! ;)

There seems to be alot of that going around, the clueless drone response. That same "canned" response is what everyone is getting from MSI.

For anyone expecting to take advantage of the promised 2 generations of GPU upgrades, now or sometime in the future, please contact MSI support and ask for directions, delivery information, and procedure info on how to take advantage of the MXM GPU upgrade for your laptop.

And, please join us here, read up, and let MSI guys in that channel know your intent and interest for upgrading your GPU's. Please post your response from MSI support, and state a question for our MSI Representatives :)

I think some type of class action or media involvement is in order. I left something about this in notebook review contact us asking for them to look into it, sense this is a Notebook review site maybe they will do an artical on it. I suggest that everyone do that too if a lot of people complain there an artical may get MSI to do something. I will be checking with other PC Mags too.

When it shuts off, did you wait and see if it comes back on? Or it just remained off?
Check power connection and the AC adapter, make sure they are both secured.

Dude, call Xotic and work it out with them. They sold you the blank restore flash drive (kinda hard to believe), so let them send you a new one - with the current drivers and apps and etc they include for Windows 10.

Update: what @ryzeki said, try to boot from that restore flash drive if you haven't already, I assumed you did that :)

If you do a install from MS install media alone, you won't get OEM drivers, and you won't get MSI apps.

Since you are RMA'ing your laptop to XoticPC/MSI, why waste time doing this yourself now? Let them do it for you when it's there getting the Robot damage repaired.

Get your laptop fixed man. Please do post when your laptop comes back from repair / RMA. :)

Maybe the USB has a bootable partition? mason2smart, have you tried using it as a booting drive instead of just inserting into windows? I have a recovery drive myself with other software (acronis) that I use, and I have it partitioned so that in windows you only see a % of it as a drive, but when booting, it boots up acronis.

You need to contact your seller and/or MSI Support, and open a support ticket so they can help step you through debugging it.

    MSI Member Login
    https://register.msi.com/home/login

Create a login, register your laptop, use the Support link to the left to open a ticket on your registered laptop, then give them the symptoms - remember for some English is a second language - so use clear direct wording. Ask for help debugging the problem.

If MSI and you determine it's a hardware problem, then they will give you an RMA number and in some regions send you a shipper box to return your laptop for repair.

Good luck, and please let us know how it works out :)

It doesn't... It's a terrible desktop OS for anyone that wants privacy or control of what they can or can't do. With each upgrade, you get apps reinstalled and suddently they can't be uninstalled anymore because they are "essential" for the OS. why the hell would I want an Xbox App on my work computer.

It might be a good tablet OS, but as a desktop I find it needlessly convoluted in both menus and features.

Download the latest version of Silent Option from MSI ( i believe the link is on their forums) with silent option you can make a custom fan speed by general temp, or at least increase fan speed with an easy slider for a quick extra speed.

    Only if that GT80 buys a GT73VR 1080, or a GT83VR 1080, or a GT83 1080 SLI laptop :)

MSI is telling everyone that asks to forget about upgrades, buy a new Pascal laptop instead.

Or, if you ever OS your GPU, EVGA Precision has that ability too.

Can't yet say if it really works - must do some testing but my GT70 0NE 680M is recognized and the fan curve may be altered. It's the latest EVGA for 9.xx and older cards. But as my BIOS/EC combo launches the fan depending on both CPU and GPU temperatures I think the control might be not too good.

I'm testing it right now but it doesn't seem to be working but I'm pretty sure it was working before. Anniversary update "feature"? Maybe the new driver? Maybe I didn't test it thoroughly before? (I didn't really) ;)

I've been following the different threads on the forum for weeks now, and this is what it comes to?
I'm Canadian, That Laptop (GT80 2QE 033US) Cost me almost 5k and you are telling me that because I am Canadian, I don't have access to the upgrade program? NO WAY.

Also, it's funny how the .pdf form is inaccessible.

Start contacting MSI representatives or the local MSI at Canada and reference to the forums and current MSI actions over the US.

If I'm not wrong I actually bought the most expensive model that was available in my country, I wanted to be sure that It would be future proof, even considering the MXM upgrade.
I'll see on the next few weeks but this better work out.

I already contacted them a week ago from my msi account concerning the issue and I'm waiting for an answer.

Keep it up. I started contacting MSI regarding MXM upgrades since january this year. The problem is that we only have US representatives here, so we know the impact we make will first be through US MSI. But keep up the good work by communicating with any means you have to your local MSI, specially if you bought locally.

A few tips for anyone playing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on the GT80.

    - SLI is currently a bit broken. Hardware monitors will show max usage on both cards, but currently SLI is only giving approx a 15-20% increase compared to single card.
    - Don't use MSAA, its killing performance at the moment.
    - Same for hard contact shadows.
    - Ultra textures seems to randomly CTD the game, with a message about insufficient resources (strange given the amount of VRAM available).
    - Turning shadows from HIGH to MEDIUM really helped even out frame rate dips for me.

With most settings on high, I can hold 50-60FPS fairly constantly in 1080p. This game sure is a looker, and hopefully once they improve SLI we can crank the details up even further!

    P.S - I'm using the 372.54 drivers, Win 8.1.

If I was you, I'd be pursuing this through your regional MSI office, and refer them to what's going on in the USA, and ask when the process is going to be in place for your region to order Pascal MXM GPU upgrades, you know the first of the 2 generations of upgrades promised by MSI for my GT80? :)

It's going to be the same for every region, work the local office and the global MSI HQ, using local consumer protection - government and private, to get action from your MSI region.

It's a process, start it, follow through over time and don't give up.

And, when all else fails... Activate the Omega-13 !!

Is there even a way to run off Intel graphics? In Eco mode with power saver on I get only just over an hour battery life. I mean I didn't buy this laptop for battery life, but an hour seems a bit short, and that's just web browsing / idling. If it's unable to run on Intel gfx, anyone have any other tips to save battery when it's needed?

I've heard the GT83VR / GT73VR have the MUX switch to allow pure iGPU for battery work, and pure dGPU for AC power gaming.

My GT80 Broadwell 5950HQ 980m SLI SLI-263 also has the MUX switch, but the Skylake GT80S models are dGPU only.

Damn. More reason to cop up to MSI for the upgrade I guess. Lol. Mine is plugged in 24/7 but sometimes I like to put it on the table and it's a pain to drag the 8 million pound brick around. Haha.

    Thanks for the quick response.
