The GT83VR 1080 SLI requires 2 x 330w power supplies for full operation...
The GT83VR/GT72VR 1070 SLI requires 2 x 230 w power supplies for full operation...
And, you also need the power supply duplex box to go with the 2 power supplies.
Somethings to think about...

Sadly, I've caused a scratch on my beautiful screen. One pixel looks like its dead, the area surrounding is just scarred. What course of action should I take, if any? There's no sense in using my warranty for this, is there?
There's no way to fix it myself, is there?
Supposed replacement:

You might be able to use a screen shine product to "fill in" the marred part. I use this for screens and it makes the screen even out and look better on older screens:
Whoosh! - http://whoosh.com/products/the-newbie-starter-kit
I got mine at Target in the US. It hasn't damaged any screens I have tried it on, laptop, TV, phone, tablet.
I wouldn't use any screen polish or abrasives. If you were trying to rub out that bad pixel, you should use a soft cloth in front of your fingers/nail to avoid scratches...
Unless it's really bad, I would use a screen shine cleaner to make it less noticeable and live with it.
The whole process of replacing the screen yourself is problematic, risking damage, and the same goes for having a 3rd party non-MSI service go at your laptop, I wouldn't feel comfortable.
You could try to run it through MSI Support, but I think you need a cluster of failed pixels before they will replace it for free. If they won't do it, ask if you can pay them to swap in a new screen - probably worth having MSI do it even if it costs a little more.
Please come back and let us know how it works out -

Are there any 2k screen that I can replace this with? Fix two birds with one stone, upgrade & new screen.mason2smart and hmscott like this. -
Then I would get it replaced by MSI, try them first. It's better to have them do it than someone not specializing in MSI laptops.
If the damage pierced enough layers to take out a pixel, oxidation could continue, liquids could wick in under the protective layers - don't use a screen cleaner or water now...
If your laptop isn't already registered, sign up here and register it, then click the Support tab on the left and create a ticket asking MSI for an RMA to repair the physical damage done to your screen:
https://register.msi.com/home/login
Asus came out with an 18.4" 4k screen, but that's gonna be hard to source, and probably won't interface with the MSI cable/connector for the display.
There has only been the one LG 18.4" for the longest time...Last edited: Aug 30, 2016 -
For those of us comparing the 1070 SLI GT83VR/GT73VR, as replacement for our GT80 980m SLI, Amazon has put up their "mega-option matrix" listing for the MSI GT73VR / GT83VR. It lets you start with an option and then see the other options available with that configuration.
For example, 1070 SLI listings, first for a GT83VR then a GT73VR, both at $3499, which is $200 less than I paid for my GT80 SLI-263 980m SLI

MSI is going to treat the laptop better than anyone but you, so unless you have done lots of screen replacements, I wouldn't.
You have the MSI warranty, it's not a one use thing, unless they fix it under the accidental damage clause, but then again, that's what this is.Last edited: Aug 30, 2016 -
If possible, I will purchase the replacement panel from them and do it myself. I have a buddy who agreed to help me do it expertly. I just don't want to have to ship my precious laptop, it's expensive, risky, and I need to use it daily.hmscott likes this. -

mh...glossy...
I always preferred the matte to glossy screen but after purchasing the GT80S I must say that I changed my mind. I have already had many problems with the screen (it's not a quality screen at all, if I may say) of this PC and although I have also sent it to the warranty...the problem has not been resolved at all, so I surrendered; my "luck" is that in 90% of cases I use the PCs attached to a 27" screen, but when I have to use his monitor its a torture.Last edited: Sep 1, 2016mason2smart likes this. -

seems like most notebook companies focus on the US and UK. Look at Razer For example. You shouldn't run away from a company if it doesn't have adequate support. you could end up with less support and an inferior product or a non-dependable product and better support. Best idea would be to complain and wait to see what they work out with nvidia. As the previously stated, the trade in program is to tide us over until they figure out how to upgrade our computers - cause us US people are like the stereotypical fat people with shotguns
we get angry and have little patience

This, on a 5k euro notebook, is totally unacceptable.
On the other hand, given the lack of msi support in my country ... I would say that maybe I should imagine it and I first have sinned in naivety.
Now I find myself with a PC that I do not want anymore, that I can not sell, for which I can not have any more support...and for which I paid the highest amount ever wasted in my life.mason2smart likes this. -
If I am going to replace the panel, I might as well get a higher resolution. There is little sense in replacing the entire panel for ONE dead pixel and a scratch, unless I get something more out of it.
With that being said, how can I make sure the connection pins are compatible if I purchase a higher resolution display? -

Anyone have problems with their xsplit premium account? I can't get it to recognize my premium licesne. I put a ticket in and MSI directed me to this FAQ, but it hasn't been updated in over a year, so the 6QE isn't even listed.
https://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/support/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3273
The one on my laptop is just the generic xsplit app. Not an MSI branded one that you supposedly need to get your license, or so I've read. Anyone else had this problem? MSI support doesn't seem so smart. And it's not on my disc either as I would have hoped. -

B: Automatically help disable at least one gpu and/or underclock for when users are on the go and need longer battery life -

umm can someone pls help me figure out whats not working right?
Also when i wake my computer up from sleep sometimes I loose all wifi/bluetooth capabilites (even after reboot they do not work) which are only restored after numerous tries at putting the computer to sleep and waking it up again -
This was the one and only instance. I'm putting the laptop to sleep all the time and never experienced a slightest problem. -

Ok so i go to the airport and the uber guy opens the back of the car and whoop... where goes my backpack. falls right out. 3 foot drop. top hits the ground. Well im lucky the back of the laptop was the corner that hit the ground first but now its all cracked in the back and the plastic over the vents i completely split apart. Don't know of any other damage. fans seem to spin fine but it doesnt ramp up when i run a benchmark and the cpu temp spike to 97C! WTF.
@hmscott My mom won't replace it--she says i have to wait till college then she'll buy me a college laptop. She knows nothing about laptops, which is quite evident since the last laptop she picked out for me was the Razer. lol.
What do i do?
Do i just try to super glue it back together when i get to NY (yes i'm flying to ny)
My mom thinks that getting a college laptop is better cause they do the repairs there and they will reload the image for you
She does not understand that if they reimage the laptop you lose all of your stuff and hthat a simple macrium backup can fix it.
Most of the college laptops weight approx 7 lbs. better to have a powerhouse and a tablet (probably just use the tablet to remote desktop to the powerhouse) and the ability to take the powerhouse with you if necessary
(no parts are kept at the college things are order only)
Colleges tend to charge exorbitant prices for repairs and its hard to keep repair people out of your personal information --esp. if its part of the collegehmscott likes this. -
You need to recoup the costs of that $4000 laptop by getting it repaired to working order and then sell it.
Heavy laptops, all laptops, need extra padding around them to avoid such damage when dropping the bag.
A shoe in the bottom of the bag to cushion the laptop, things packed in front and behind the laptop to cushion the blow when hit on any side.
These are the things one must do to protect your laptop.
Simply dropping them in a thin backpack with no other protection won't suffice, as you found out today.
Also, don't let anyone else carry your backpack / laptop, consider it chained to your wrist.
Tough lessons we all need a little tragedy to learn from, it's better if you avoid the lossages, but if it helps it from happening again, then make it worthwhile.
Your mom is likely just getting frustrated and doesn't want to deal with it...IDK, you're gonna have to mow a zillion lawns to pay for that repair unless you can convince them to send it in for RMA.Last edited: Sep 9, 2016 -

Since I'm out of town and need it for school what should I do? Should I just try to patch it up and trade it in in a month or 2?hmscott likes this. -
Why was the laptop backpack on the ground ready to receive a seal clubbing instead of safe on your back? You never let go of your laptop bag, especially when exiting or entering transportation - that's how it gets stolen or forgotten or "lost".
I don't understand the juxtaposition of being out of town and being in school, how does that work?
If you are going to be out of town for months, then make sure to put all the small parts into a safe case to protect the parts.
Use some nice Hello Kitty stickers to cover the gaps for now.
You could try to put in an emergency request to XoticPC to send you a mailing box with return postage and have them handle the repair.
You should have repaired this long ago, and lived with the outage of computer - we all learn how to manage without our personal computer or laptop when necessary.
Are you in a hotel?, do they have computers to use in a shared area?, do you have access to a school facility to use a shared computer there?Last edited: Sep 9, 2016mason2smart likes this. -
Try not to get it run over with a Steam-Roller, MSI might not allow a "Flat as a Pizza" GT80S as a trade-in
MSI might also reject a damaged GT80S as a trade-in, as I assume MSI is expecting to refurbish and resell these laptops used for trade-in's.
Or, even worse, MSI will let us *keep* our original laptops, but without repair or warranty service moving forward. Which means you will be stuck with a broken GT80S... forever
Get your ducks in order, get it fixed nice and pretty for trade-inLast edited: Sep 9, 2016mason2smart likes this. -
Just found out about the upgrade program. I will forget about my problems with the small scratch/1 dead pixel and trade it in. That my best option at this point, I would think. If anyone disagrees I am all ears.
Anyone know what the conditions are for the upgrade program? Their submission form is vague.hmscott likes this. -
You can try filling out the form, using Adobe Acrobat on a PC and go through the Adobe Sign submission process - but that didn't work for me and many others.
That may be fixed by now, and if it works for you, please let us know
We haven't heard back from MSI as to the terms of the trade-in yet.

So guys and gals, I have a bit of an issue. I have a GT80 258, and I've had it since December of last year. Recently, I've been having all manner of issues with the keyboard. As of a few weeks ago it will start repeating key strokes, usually just a half a dozen or so. It doesn't always do it, and pressing another key almost always stops the process, but I have no idea what's happening.
The keyboard is clean, there's never been any spills on it and I keep it away from food. It's never seen any damage. I'm just not even sure where to look to get it fixed, and the problem is inconsistent and I'm not convinced it warrants and RMA. Can anyone here that's a bit more tech savvy help me out? I actually bought this computer specifically for the famed durability of mechanical keyboards and their lovely feel.mason2smart likes this. -

Would love to have the battery last long enough to play a movie any ideas to get it to stretch about 2.5 hrs?
Safe mode maybe?
Anyone try swapping the built in battery with a larger one? I would think it would support a higher wattage (but not a lower one) -

Anyone use ACD? Does it fix cosmetic issues like cracked plastic?

Hey
So i had a problem and wanted to share with you how to fix it because I couldnt find anything about it on the internet.
For those with their Titan and have the problem where when you boot your computer the MSI logo shows up but then it turns right off with a strange beeping sound .
1st time it happened to me i sent it to the customer service and it came back fixed . It happened to me later but wasnt under warrante this time so i had to figure it out myself . So i checked their bill and try to see what was the problem . I saw that they tinkered with the BIOS to fix the issue . So after a lot of trying I figured out a way to fix it .
wha t you wanna do is hold the Del key while your computer is booting on the MSI logo to reach the BIOS . then what you wanna do is press F9 to r eset settings to default .
Then to actually fix the problem you need to go into the Boot tab and change the Boot option #1 to Hard Drive instead of CD/DVD . then press F10 to save and exit . Tada ! it solved it for me
I hope it was of some help because it was very furstrating for me and couldnt find this anywhere . So now you know how to get rid of that problem without having to send it to warrante .
Peace, Anatolemason2smart and hmscott like this. -

What is your opinion on MSI True Color... Is it worth messing with to get it working... seems better without it... -
Quick question, so I have my laptop hooked up to my big screen, looks great, but is there a way to keep the sound settings? It's going through a receiver but it looks like every time the computer restarts I gotta redo the sound to 7.1, which makes sense given the nature of the connection, but is there a way to make it stick by chance? Even if labtop restarts. Thank you.
