Any idea how to resolve this issue? I'm running Win8.1, and when I do a check for Windows updates, it just sits there on "checking for updates". Already tried stopping the service and cleaning the windows/SoftwareDistribution folder, but no effect.

Checking for updates worked just fine the last time I did it about a month ago. btw I have my laptop set to not automatically check for updates. I do it myself at a time that works for me.

EDIT: fixed. Just had to wait a VERY long time!.....

There is a possible upgrade trade program for current GT80/GT72 owners but it seems like is only for USA owners:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-msi-news-events-and-all-things-msi.795144/
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=274983.0
For GT80/GT72 owners from other countries (like me) this can be a solution from an MSI representative on this forum :
    Hi, all:

As you know the MXM trade-in program is USA based program and for the GT72/GT80 owners from other countries, please start a conversation with me @snallygaster on this forum with title of GT72/GT80 owners from (your country) and kindly provide the information as follows before 10/30:

    - Country
    - First Name
    - Last Name
    - Purchased Model
    - Email Address

We will pass your information to the local representatives and they will contact you for more details in your countries.

*** Kindly note wrong title and uncompleted information won't be accepted.

PS. The company representatives on this forum are based in USA team, so what we can do is transfer the requests. The local representative contact info can be also found on local MSI official website. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you for supporting MSI and all your feedback.

If you have means to move your unit in the US I don't see why not, though maybe you can contact MSI to see how things would go in Iceland (I don't think it will be a good answer heh, so doing things though USA might be better.)

MSI Italy Notebook just replied me, they said trade in program will also be avaible in Italy but it's yet to study the program, they'll rewrite me soon for some news. This would be trade-in will probably be avaible for other countries besides USA.

I was told this is MSI related and not Windows 10. How do I disable this box that pops up on the left when window dragging? Its quite the annoyance.

I decided to go into every single setting on this computer to find what could be causing it. It was in the MSI True Color settings called "Desktop Partition".

so whats the view now - is it safe to upgrade to Win10, and will everything work "out of the box" - or are there certain things you need to do before going from 8.1 to 10?

Windows 10 is continuing to be a serious detriment to everyone that runs it.

New releases are still prompting driver developers no end of headache's debugging and solving newly introduced issues by MS's updates, and you must track new drivers from hardware OEM's and laptop makers to stay on top of the solutions, which aren't 100% even now.

Nahimic, Killer, Intel, Realtek, etc are all releasing new drivers faster than a "one armed paper-hanger". ;)

Keep away from Windows 10 as long as you can.

There is no benefit to moving to Windows 10, and only a constantly changing panorama of downsides.

Windows 10 is such.... an enervating OS. They better make Vulkan the "winner" api to avoid DX12 so I can run whatever I want. I can't remember the last time I felt this worried about breaking my OS compatibility with anything with each update, plus being so closed down to tweak anything....

windows 8 made me angry with its UI, but other than that, I got used to it, tweaked it and worked perfectly. But win10 is constantly reminding me what a bad decision it was for me to use it as my main OS.

How long does it normally take for msi to respond? I tried to fill out that trade up sheet and it wouldn't let me type in anything but I still emailed them with all the same info, I just don't want to miss the cut off.

I'd post in the MSI Rep Questions thread, what you did and who you are, so that there is a record you submitted your submission.

And, as on the TV show "Jeopardy", post it in the form of a Question :D

[Official] Questions for the MSI Rep! #2
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/official-questions-for-the-msi-rep-2.795226/

And, MSI will likely not respond, as they haven't to anyone so far, except to us few that attached a blank form to our email ;)

I have the same problem with my GT83VR. I pressed it many times and it's now lit but when I press it again it gets bugged like before. The LED is working when i hold the button down, though.

The MSI SCM software controls those buttons, try updating or downgrading to a newer or older version of SCM and see if that "unbugs" it :)

Just reinstalled it, twice. Still bugged. By the way, there are a lot of "setup" files when you download it. Do you have any idea which one to use? I don't want to reinstall Windows. Can I fix it somehow using the repair options that F3 offers? Should I open the laptop to see if something is blocking the key? You can reply in the GT83VR topic if you want. Thanks! :)

    Guys,

Does anyone know how to sort out problems with the synaptics software? I currently cannot use my touch pad 10 key number function, i've tried the latest driver from msi and it does not work.

    Try the following:
    1. Turn off the "tap to click" option.
    2. Uninstall the driver and reboot.
    3. Install the latest driver and reboot.
    4. Turn on the "tap to click" option.

This (or something really similar) fixed it for my GT83VR. I still can't fix my "desktop off" button, though. You can check the GT83VR topic for my latest post there. Do you have any ideas?

    hi guys, couple questions:

I bought the SLI 980m GT80 for my wife. I've noticed that the MSI site suddenly has 0 drivers listed, just a few utilities. anyone know where to reliably get drivers for this notebook? Seems some of the software they have is actually pretty useful too (nahimic and the hotkey stuff)

On that note, i've noticed that the ESS Sabre dac sounds absolutely awful, like unusably bad. the sound is very tinny and "far away", and severely distorted. Not sure why, as all my drivers are up to date. Anyone manage to get the hifi dac sounding even remotely usable, let alone "hifi"?

Which model exactly, and are you selecting the OS version from the drivers page? (as you won't see anything listed until you do that).

I've had a similar experience initially. I couldn't understand why would anybody call it "Xtreme Audio". With updated Nahimic and Realtek drivers (and decent earphones) it sounds absolutely incredible. You probably won't find the newest drivers on MSI site. Get on Facebook and "like" Nahimic. They update their drivers relatively often as W10 updates tend to break something in them. They post links to their dropbox with newest drivers. I've got installed Nahimic version is 2.3.4 but there is a hotfix ( https://nahimic.helprace.com/i95-nahimic-hotfix-is-available) I didn't install since I don't have any issues with "cracking". You need to ALWAYS uninstall and update both (Realtek first, then Nahimic) at the same time as they are dependent on each other in this case.
If that won't help, reinstalling Windows should solve it. I know it's a PITA but (to me) it's worth it.

Update: I just checked the MSI site and they do have the newest version (2.3.4.) freshly updated three days ago (I've had it for about a month already) follow the update guide.
If you don't like Facebook, you can check for new releases on their new helprace website https://nahimic.helprace.com/

MSI has accidentally done this before, removed downloads for various models, and then restore it after we complained. :(

Complain via the MSI ticket system, show them the same link, ask where all the rest of the downloads - BIOS, Driver, Firmware, Utility, Manual, etc went.

Hey guys, a month ago, I posted that after upgrading to Windows 10, MSI Dragon Gaming Center no longer working. It's there in the tray icon, but the app won't shows up.
Anyway, today I found out that it already fixed itself. Well, not actually by itself, I believe it fixed after I downloaded the latest Windows 10 update (12th Oct '16 update).

Are you running the same original version you had? I ended up uninstalling it because I didn't use it, but when I did, it didn't work on w10. I understand that the newest updates fixed that though.

Yes, the MSI Dragon Gaming Center still the same version (latest version) that previously not working. AFAIK, there's still no new version of DGC.
Previously I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still not working. So I just left it there.

I know some people here think DGC is useless, but for me it is useful enough to check temperature/fan speed and quick-change between power plan modes (instead going to Windows settings). I actually missed it a lot during the "not working" period.

It's ok, I don't consider it useless :) I simply never opened my self, except when I first got the machine. The newest laptops with dragon center have vastly different settings, and I believe some have incorporated fan speed control as well. I don't think we will ever get those versions haha :p

You might also check on the MSI product support page(s) for your model and other newer models, for newer versions of the MSI Dragon Gaming Center, someone else mentioned a new MSI Dragon Gaming Center version fixed their problem.

It could have coincided with a new Windows Update that actually fixed the problem :)

Just got the upgrade (buy-back) info:

    Greetings, valued gamer!

Thank you for submitting your forms for the trade-in program for your GT72 or GT80. The GT72 and GT80 with GTX 900 series are facing limitations of the power and thermal design, which will not be able to convert into GTX 10 series. We value our customers and in order to fulfill our promise for GPU upgrades, we can replace your laptop for a new model at the same cost as if you were to have been able to solely upgrade the GPU from GTX 900 series to the GTX 10 series.

Please see the details of the trade in program as outlined below:

*Each upgrade cost is the same as if you were to only upgrade the GPU.

How to trade in your Laptop:

    1. If your laptop was NOT originally purchased and upgraded from one of the MSI authorized Build-to-Order reseller below.
    a) Unit must be shipped back to MSI without any physical damage and with all original components which includes the following but not limited to:
    i. Power Adaptor
    ii. CPU
    iii. Graphics Card
    iv. Memory
    v. SSD/HDD
    b) If you made any component upgrades to your laptop by yourself, you must remove all upgrades and return the laptop back to us with all of its original components.

    2) If you purchased your laptop with upgraded components from one of the Build-to-Order resellers below, let us know and we will be working with those resellers to off you the trade-in program.
    a) We will be contacting you once we have gathered everyone’s information and iron out the specifics with those resellers.

    3) MSI authorized Build-to-Order resellers:
    a) Xotic PC
    b) Computer Upgrade King
    c) EXcaliber PC
    d) Gentech PC
    e) Mobile Advance
    f) HID Evolution Computers

    4) MSI is not responsible for any files and data on the laptop that you trade in to us. It is your responsibility to back up all of your files as needed.

Please respond to this email with answers to the following questions:

    1. Your name that you submitted the GT Trade-in form with?
    2. Do you want to trade in your laptop for an upgraded unit with the equivalent GTX 10 series GPU?
    3. Did you purchase your laptop from an authorized Build-to-Order reseller? If yes, which reseller?
    4. Any other questions, comments or concerns?

Once we have received your answers, we will contact everyone on a case-by-case basis and provide further instructions on how and where to ship your laptops, as well as how you need to pay for the upgrade cost.

Thank you for your patience and support. We look forward to working with you to ensure your satisfaction with your purchase so that you can continue to game on!

Yeah I just got this email too, it's understandable the cost for the upgrade, but after spending the loot just to acquire the laptop I have now, 1400 is over kill, sli 980m will prob be powerful enough for the life of the laptop I hope, at 1080p anyways, hopefully it lasts for several years to come.

You might consider signing up for the trade-in anyway, just to keep it as an option.

MSI didn't mention a time limit for answering, or a time limit on taking advantage of the upgrade, so I asked them via email and here:

[Official] Questions for the MSI Rep! #2
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...or-the-msi-rep-2.795226/page-19#post-10363593

$1400 / 2 = $700 per GPU, which isn't a bad GPU only upgrade, but including a new laptop frame and a 2nd power supply for free is nice too.

If you aren't ready now it might be available a year from now, if MSI keeps the upgrade open for people to save up. We all expected more than 2 years of upgrades available, so this would only be fair.

I'm sure you already know, but in case you don't we have a thread for discussing the MSI upgrades here:

GT72/GT72S and GT80/GT80S Owners GPU Upgrade Discussion

Yeah, I'll think I'll pay the $1400 for the upgrade. I looked at some benchmarks and it looks to be a pretty significant upgrade. Plus it should come with upgraded everything else (DDR4 vs DDR3, 6th gen Intel vs 5th gen Intel, USB Type C, not sure about SSD performance).

Did you check with cpu they give you with the upgrade? In my case ssd space become the half!

2nd are u sure the upgrade it's unlimited in time? In 6month or 1yr they would have newer models...and i'm not sure they will trade in our machine so obsolete for that prices....

I didn't ask about the CPU. In my research the lowest CPU offered (that I could find) is the 6820HK. I currently have a 5700HQ. I'm OK with whatever is offered.

I never saw anything about a time limit, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.
