Hey, thanks for the help! I already got it fixed but thanks for trying to help anyway man! It turns out that there is some glitch where if I put the grass settings above normal, the game crashes. Its odd, but I can deal with having normal grass settings.

The GT72S has a different chipset that is capable of PCI-E SSD raid. That should be the only difference.

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my GT80 where the numpad won't turn on. I closed the lid earlier today and when I opened it back up, the numpad feature wouldn't work. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

Check your touchpad settings, to see if tap to click is selected.

battery, i mean watching videos, a good 4hrs would be nice.. on 1.2ghz though =)

also if 6820HK can hold more than few mins on like 4.4ghz it'll be SWEET, all i need to do is mod the heatsink and that stuff is doable, cooling shouldnt be a problem. what I am worried about is no dual PSU support which is why i dont think GT80 will come with skylake.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! I figured out that my driver was screwed up somehow and reinstalled it. That did the trick and it works fine now.

I heard the 980 editions are limited? is this true? does this mean there will not be many 980 SLI GT80's?

Wonder why Alienware isn't competing with their own 980 sli. Lack of competition will enable them to drive prices up.

They don't even have one in the works to my knowledge for 980 desktop sli. MSI does, its published on the NVIDIA list so are you willing to take that bet?

It could be under $4,000 considering 1 gpu is $600 or so and adding a gpu to the gt72 equals the GT80 so it could be more like $3,800 so it doesn't break the $4,000 limit many purchasers could have and doesn't look way to pricey at its starting price.

mason2smart, I am sure that MSI will build as many 980 SLI GT80's as there are buyers :)

But, that does suggest another thing, why would MSI build an SLI 980m GT80, if they go to the trouble of building a SLI 980 GT80?

Why make a 2 new GT80 builds for Skylake, especially when the top end of both builds are so close together in performance?

MSI needs that new Skylake SLI 980 GT80 to truly have a flagship build.

I guess since MSI will have 970m/965m SLI's, they might as well slap 2 980m's into the same frame, but it does make you think...

You would have the 980M sli as well just as you have the 970M edition, as everyone has a different budget. The 980M setup wont suddenly be obsolete.

Meaker, I wonder if MSI will release both new Skylake builds at the same time?

Will the GT80 SLI 980 build and GT80 SLI 980m/970m/965m build be released and available at the same time, or will they be a staggered release?

How do we know there's a 980m skylake model?

They could have 4 and 8 gb gpu variants as well

mason2smart, the GT80 is all about the top end, so that is why I wouldn't expect anything but the top configuration for any part used in the GT80 build.

The desktop 980 only got as far as 4GB, but from the charts I have seen for the 980 desktop GPU "mobile", they list 4GB/8GB versions.

I would expect the GT80 980 SLI to only have the 8GB MXM but then again, the space available - without some considerable changes - would suggest there is only room for the 980 4GB MXM.

The over-sized MXM card for the 980 8GB won't fit in the existing space in the GT80.

MSI will likely modify the GT80 to fit the 980 / 8GB MXM, but that means MSI would need to make 2 builds, one for the Skylake GT80 980m / 970m / 965m SLI, and one for the Skylake GT80 980 8GB SLI - lots of different mods required based on size, power, thermals.

Maybe all those improvements for the GT80 980 8GB SLI will be used for the 980m / 970m / 965m build - combining into 1 build for the Skylake GT80's.

But, all those changes for the GT80 980 8GB SLI won't be cheap, it would be hard to justify the same build to use for the 980m / 970m / 965m SLI Skylake GT80.

Any time MSI, we are hoping for the best :)

so much hype, yet the PSU issue havent being addressed at all, especially we still donno if GT80 will have skylake CPU.

if does come true though, will be a very nice upgrade for us ivy's peeps as almost every performance is 50-70%+ except CPU portion. im just waiting to see how alienware/clevo will respond to this as they dont usually disappoint.

the new GT80 would last long enough until cannonlake xeon for me =)

alienware build quality is by far the best of all laptops, especially the m18x lineup with metallic chassis, in general most of dell machine isn't half bad, too bad the smaller sized version 13-17inch alienware are less durable. clevo p570wm is no slouch either.

i dont own a gt80 so i donno how it fairs against my m18x though.

Why would the skylake CPU have anything to do with the PSU, the TDP is less than Haswell so with the reports of the skylake chips holding their clock without even hitting tdp it is even better. Maybe you are talking about the aw18 PSU issues since they are power limited at the board and will never accept more than the one brick.

As for build quality I have owned both and I can't say that the Alienware 18 is built better, I can say that the GT80 is built with much more methodical and a far superior design because the AW18 is a total pain to get to any major component and If you do split the case on the AW18 it never goes back perfectly the same because they use some cheap tactics to hold it together in areas at the front. Sorry but I lot all respect from the AW series with the hardware release in late 2013 forward and now they are trying to offer it again and it looks to be the same nonsense which is a total shame for those trying to stay loyal. The older machines mentioned aren't offered any longer so just talking about whats available today.

maybe the new gt80 will not get the HK but the 6820 which has a higher base clock but is tpd limited?
What's your take on this? only a 99$ difference - what's the point of making a tpd limited version?

I am pretty sure 6820HK is the safest bet we can take on the Gt80. I mean, GT72 is taking it as well. Only GS series or lower end series use HQ processors so far.

The rest is just fun speculation until we finally get to know what is going on haha :)

Personally, I would totally go for 6820HK and 980m. I am a bit scared of full 980 :p

Hello, I'm living in Nederland and somebody interesting change msi gt80 titan without HDD and ssd (to make price smaller) at my Alienware 18

    Specs:

    Alienware 18
    I7 4700mq
    16gb ram
    Killer WiFi
    Two 880m 8gb each
    1tb ssd micron m500

alienware 18 isnt better, but m18x is, also its not just skylake CPU have to do with PSU, everything does. but skylake CPU have MORE to do with PSU issues than haswell cause if im going to overclock, it'll be high freqneucy and uses more power than haswell.

ontop of that, we are getting gt980 sli, if you think this machine with overclocked skylake CPU + dual gtx980 in SLI doesnt require dual PSU then you are wasting your money for getting only half the performance out of this machine.

I agree the older m18x is much better than the aw18 but still it is not easy to work on compared to the gt80.

I also understand the cpu requirements regarding the current 330 psu that can withstand 400 watts. If we overclock the cpu the current single psu is fine. Overclocking the gpus mobile or desktop series on their own or with a cpu OC a new psu will be needed or 2 x bricks will be needed I agree.

This has already been mentioned before though so just keep your fingers crossed as ours are. I hope we get some news in the next 4 weeks.

I have one more question. Does anyone elses computer randomly crash while browsing the internet and listening to spotify? Its only happened twice but both of those were open on both occasions. I think it may be some sort of a driver problem.
