The copper cooling II have seen applied only made a difference if air was adequate under the laptop. Like say a cooling pad. But it did help like maybe +-1 to 3 c without the air.
And with the diamond. It's a much better paste than factory. Like I said before unless it's something like Shin Itsu they are using there. Better temps on the highs. I haven't really seen any paste help on idle.
AGAIN.. This is from My experience.

I honestly don't think ICD is a waste so please don't take it that way if I made it seem. And as you probably already know the thermal material topic very subjective because its hard to define pure results but we still try to share our own experiences on the GT80 to draw a conclusion. ICD is a very good product and I keep it along with Antec 7 and CLU on hand. The stock paste for me performed much better than expected when compared, for myself you will see I was sold on CLU when I owned my AW18 with a 4930mx and it worked wonders and it provided the same great results on my GT80.

So everyone understands when I say put it in a box and ship it, that's just the type of person I am. This doesn't reflect upon any vendor service that can be provided in any way because they can offer great service to customers where needed.

Copper upgrade add me heat sinks and copper is the best conducted for heat so it moves heat away from the processors more efficently...The diamond paste keeps things 5 -10 percent cooler so those combined with turbo fan will allow for a much lower temp when overclocking

Looks like a win of an addition actually :)
I don't see anything bad happening from adding these options.

At worst, they do nothing, at best, they improve your cooling. It doesn't hurt, and in the case of extra copper, you get better cooling if you also use a cooling pad of decent airflow.

I bought a bunch of these to test on a new MSI Apache my wife is messing with. So I have plenty. Not to mention that Apache's CPU runs hottttttt. So we figured we would play with these things while we were repasting.

I have several different laptop coolers to play with as well lol . laser thermometer and some other nifty things to see if this works. Once I get the babies in bed record I'll start recording standard temps. Then apply the sinks, test with out coolers. Then with the different coolers.

MSI has released the new GT80S 6th gen CPU models, there are 7 old/new, 3 new 6th Gen CPU, showing on the Canadian site:
    http://ca.msi.com/product/nb/#?category=GT Series

    GT80S 6QE-013US Titan SLI
    (GTX 980M SLI) 6th Gen Win 10

    GT80S 6QE-001US Titan SLI
    (GTX 980M SLI) 6th Gen Win 10

    GT80S 6QD-011US Titan SLI
    (GTX 980M SLI) 6th Gen Win 10

None of them are the SLI 980 model(s) we are waiting for...also no 970m models, only 980m and 965m.

All the new GT80 models are GT80S now.

The US site still has the old models, no 6th Generation models:
    http://us.msi.com/product/nb/#?category=GT Series

The Global site has the 980 SLI 29th Anniversary 6th Gen model, but the rest are the 5th generation CPU models:
    http://www.msi.com/product/notebook/#?tag=18" Series

Lol - which processor is better?

    Latest 6th Gen. Intel® Core™

    i7-6920HQ processor?

    or

    i7-6820HK processor?

The HK could surpass the 6290HQ but has a tendency to thermal throttle, right?

They show in the photo the hk vs hq and say the hk is better

    54.jpg

However, the HQ processor model gets the extra ram, making me think MSI is making the HQ model their top model...

Hey guys, I'm having a fairly serious problem. My GPU button is not working. I turned my graphics cards off about 2 weeks ago (I relocate a lot while using the notebook so I figured I could use the extra battery life), but after recently trying to turn my graphics cards on today, I noticed when I press my GPU button, nothing turns on. I don't get that prompt to reset my computer and activate my GTX 970 cards.

Now, this normally wouldn't be that big of a problem because you can just uninstall and reinstall the SCM, but that doesn't fix the problem. Attached below is proof of my reinstallation.

My function buttons are working just fine. I can flick the volume higher and lower, the screen brightness higher and lower as well using the function buttons so they are definitely working. I can open the SCM panel as well so it's definitely installed, hell, my fan button is even working, but NOT my GPU button. This is actually a serious problem when I will want to game on this notebook.

    Any ideas?

It seems to be running, I mean, if it wasn't, my function buttons wouldn't be working right? From what I understand, one of the things SCM governs are the MSI function buttons. I mean, I could be wrong but that's just what I read.

I'm certainly very open to suggestions.

I haven't had time or money to continue modding mine, but my idea aside from copper blocks, was to add an additional fan dedicated for the CPU. A smaller one, thin one that cools the copper blocks to be added near/on the CPU.

since all the cooling in the titan comes from the bottom intake, I think you will have good results with strong airflow entering the bottom panel, along with copper blocks. Good luck!

I am fairly sure the 6920HQ is TDP locked as only the HK has been touted as unlocked, thus the 6820HK has higher clock potential and better performance in long stresses. With proper paste job, and undervolting, I am sure you can keep a 6820HK at higher speeds than 6920HQ, and decent temps. I would not get anything that is not a 6820HK :p

What an odd situation... I can't think of something but I will definitely check it out. Between reinstalling and the like, try cleaning the registry as well as restarting and shutting down/booting, to see if it helps... I remember I had an issue with SCM a while ago when upgrading it, that I had to reinstall like 3 times along with rebooting and cleaning registry, because it was not installing correctly.

Also, I haven't checked, maybe there is an option in the BIOS for the GPU? Hopefully there is, if not, they should add it haha :)

Appreciate the fast reply and consideration ryzeki. I'll try reinstalling the SCM a couple of times per your suggestion, as for cleaning the registry, I assume we're talking about CC cleaner right?

Is it possible to get rid of the Nahimic ****e, and use SB instead? At the moment I'm closing Nahimic on every boot, as it really does not place nice with a lot of games (e.g GTA5).
GT80 SLI Win8.1 if that matters.

I have found some fans that may work. and have pondered this my self. But we will test this first . If it looks promising. I will end up with a FrankenTitan before its over with.
I have been wondering the same thing, but i did the Bios upgrade and absolutely I despise Nahimic.

The graph shows the 6700HQ, not the 6920HQ.

The default base and MaxTurbo speeds for the 6820HK are lower than the 6920HQ, so the default out of the box performance of the 6920HQ will be 200mhz higher.

The 6820HK can be OC'd via BIOS in the GT72S, but we haven't seen a GT80 with the 6820HK or 6920HQ, so we can't tell what is possible in BIOS vs XTU/TS.

The testing so far is that 4.0ghz is max stable on the 6820HK on some laptops, and noone has shown a successful unlocked TDP, but testing and reports have only started coming in.

Here are a couple of threads to watch:

    6820HK overclocking
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/6820hk-overclocking.783297/

Anybody got a Skylake HQ/HK CPU yet? I want guinea pig-- I mean testers.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...inea-pig-i-mean-testers.782689/#post-10119929

The 6920HQ costs $200 more from Intel than the 6820HK, so that may be why it's included in the higher end configuration.

If you are running Windows 10, there is a newer version of SCM 16.015.09180 for Windows 10, also works for Windows 8.1:
    http://www.msi.com/product/notebook/support/GT80-2QE-Titan-SLI-5.html#down-utility&Win10 64

Uninstall, reboot, install As Administrator, reboot, and then try again.

Topic: GT80 2QD Titan gpu switch button stopped working after upgrading to windows 10
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=262013.0

You are also running SB2, so you don't have the newest BIOS / EC, and SCM works with the EC to function. Updating your BIOS may make SB2 break and you would need to move to Nahimic, FYI.

So with my lappy only being a single 980m I should be able to utilise optimus correct ? I should be able to use process for desktop usage. Then it should automatically switch to the 980m with gaming. As long as I have hit the GPU button ... Hmm hmm

Nahimic came with my GT80 and Windows 8.1. The BIOS version determines whether you can install SB2 or not.

I / you would need to downgrade BIOS to go to SB2, I don't know if that is worth it. I don't know if the Broadwell model can go back far enough BIOS-wise to allow SB2 to work.

Creative has a $30 software product that might work, and also has a Windows 10 version:
    http://software.store.creative.com/p/software/sound-blaster-x-fi-mb3

So far Nahimic 1.2.7 + Realtek 6.0.1.7592 hasn't been a problem for me, but when it does cause a problem, I will give MB3 a try.

If you try MB3, please let us know how it works.

The GT80 has MUX switch hardware and MSI SCM software; press the Graphics button to switch back and forth between Intel iGPU and Nvidia dGPU.

After pressing the Graphics button, it will prompt you to reboot, after reboot you are always on the GPU you selected, until you switch back using the GPU button.

This way there is no screwing around with forcing Optimus to use the dGPU instead of the Intel GPU, which is a huge problem with lots of software you are forced to use the Intel GPU instead of the Nvidia GPU(s).

There is no automatic switching between Intel iGPU and dGPU on the GT80. If the Graphics Button is lit you are on Nvidia dGPU(s), if it is dark then you are on the Intel iGPU.

mason2smart, do you mean on Nahmic or SB2 or MB3? :)

I don't use the Mic, and only have Nahmic to play with, so hopefully someone else can answer you.
