unityole, I think we are still at square one, until we get a live GT80S 980 SLI to test, and see if adding the 2nd PSU / coupler provides more usable power.
We haven't seen the BIOS, which also might change after release. If it's like the GT72S with 6820HK, there are lots of tuning options.
I also don't think the final / best performance will be there out of the box, it will take some tuning, which isn't reflected in the numbers MSI put into the GT80 SLI 980 overview.
We will need to get the GT80S's into users / tuners hands before we get any reliable performance and tuning info.

It's typical to put the best performance parts in with a lot of options, to maximize performance, and profit
It doesn't look like they are really padding too much, although I wish they would use 2 x 16GB SODIMM's instead of 4 x 8GB.
MSI lists 2 options for GPU VRAM, 4GB and 8GB - it would be nice to know if they both have the same speed VRAM, or if the 4GB is 7ghz and the 8GB is 5ghz. -
I already bought the one with gtx 980m slibut if the new one is not higher than 3800€ I will buy it

definitely don't want 980 sli until can see some good proof lol.
@mason2smart that 69**HQ cpu with 980 SLI.. thats a good guess. another way for them to milk some more money with less performance, as a lot of people only looks at numbers and falls for it. 6820HK + 980M sli seems perfect to go for, with very small amount of room for OC for sure as PCIE NVMe SSDs drains power hard.mason2smart likes this. -

hope you guys who purchases this machine enjoy it to fullest, its been so long since a decent one came about tbh and this machine is pretty dam good. and maybe some hardcore person decided to mod and go for dual psu just like the aw system. i'll be skipping for another 2 yrs and wait for cannonlake + 3dxpoint SSDs, with pascal GPU, matured ddr4 ram and usb 3.1 adoption.
waiting game forever -
I'm also interested -

I might also be purchasing a gs60 (probably 4k edition) for my grandmother (she can't read the screen on her 13 inch Sony laptop anymore) so I will have to see how that plays into things with discounts and whatnot.
Powernotebooks also offers 5% student discount on upgrades or a nb review discount in addition to free shipping and 3% cashback while xotic pc doesn't stack discounts w/ free shipping and 3% cashback.
XoticPC is also willing to apply clu on the CPU & GPU's for approx. $50.
If I use XoticPC i will forgo the haptics device b/c they want $100 to install it which is insane.Attached Files:

and I only have the gt72 dominator pro dragon edition and msi gt80 titan with 980m sli.
but they will be nothing compared to the new gt80s with 980 sli. -

That and with the NVME SSD's they stocked it with, it will probably be like $4,250 or more
By the time it comes out you might as well just wait for pascal. Also, it may not get GPU upgrades in the future or support 1080 sli due to power constraints...
Remind me to look into a career in the oil industry when i graduate from college

Because I'm actually pretty interested in that upgrade
EDIT: I saw in your attachment that they DO have the IC Dimond which is good enough I guess.
Will go through it again soon. gotta run -

The differences depend on the heatsink and the setup, but I have never had such a big difference myself.

Is MSI's SHIFT (Green,Comfort, Sport) on the GT80S-002

3 percent discount is better b/c veteran/school discounts for gentech & xotic don't stack
I've done my research!

People, keep in mind that both 980m and 980 are power limited from the get go. This is something built in to the notebook and can only be removed with special vbios. That being said, if you guys do consider the machine for serious overclocking, definitely go with a second PSU and the adapter.
I still think 6820HK and 980m SLI is the best bang ,as 980 is bound to be much more expensive. -

I downloaded and installed the latest firmware and BIOS from the support page, even if the description said broadwell (I correctly selected 4th gen CPU). I have no issues on my machine, in that regard.hmscott likes this. -

Did anyone figure out if the led's were forced red or are only red?
Anyone try to enable multi-color back-lighting?
Thanks,

Still surprised to not see a review on the GT80s-002 yet or a vendor reply that they are released and actually in stock.
NewEgg is selling them so I would say that one answer to be confirmed completely.Last edited: Nov 4, 2015
