unityole, I think we are still at square one, until we get a live GT80S 980 SLI to test, and see if adding the 2nd PSU / coupler provides more usable power.
We haven't seen the BIOS, which also might change after release. If it's like the GT72S with 6820HK, there are lots of tuning options.
I also don't think the final / best performance will be there out of the box, it will take some tuning, which isn't reflected in the numbers MSI put into the GT80 SLI 980 overview.
We will need to get the GT80S's into users / tuners hands before we get any reliable performance and tuning info.

Price is probably quite high since they arent minimizing the ssd's or ram in the system. it comes with 256 gb nvme ssd's or 500 gb nvme ssd's and 32 gb of ram -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
Notice - they aren't offering the HK processor with this model. Guess they figured you cannot overclock it much if there are power restrictions...ole!!! likes this. -
mason2smart, it's likely a matter of a place to put the 6920HQ, and it costs $190 more than the 6820HK, so the high end model is the likeliest place.
It's typical to put the best performance parts in with a lot of options, to maximize performance, and profit
It doesn't look like they are really padding too much, although I wish they would use 2 x 16GB SODIMM's instead of 4 x 8GB.
MSI lists 2 options for GPU VRAM, 4GB and 8GB - it would be nice to know if they both have the same speed VRAM, or if the 4GB is 7ghz and the 8GB is 5ghz. -
How much for the new gt80 ?
I already bought the one with gtx 980m sli
but if the new one is not higher than 3800€ I will buy it
-
yazan223, so far only the GT80S 980m SLI model has a price for pre-order, none of the other models, including the 980 SLI has been given a price. We are all watching for the official listings / pre-orders.

Supposedly the 980m model ships tomorrow! -
on that regard gt72s, 37x multiplier isn't something to crave for, thats like basic turbo boost performance.. going from my current 47x capable to 37x hurts. not to mention even at 37x, gpu is probably limited to stock as any oc would trip the psu.
definitely don't want 980 sli until can see some good proof lol.
@mason2smart that 69**HQ cpu with 980 SLI.. thats a good guess. another way for them to milk some more money with less performance, as a lot of people only looks at numbers and falls for it. 6820HK + 980M sli seems perfect to go for, with very small amount of room for OC for sure as PCIE NVMe SSDs drains power hard.mason2smart likes this. -

at this point i may end up going for the 002 model... Asked a reseller to price it out and im still waiting on them for that... still looking to get x2 nvme 500gb ssd'sole!!! likes this. -
hope you guys who purchases this machine enjoy it to fullest, its been so long since a decent one came about tbh and this machine is pretty dam good. and maybe some hardcore person decided to mod and go for dual psu just like the aw system. i'll be skipping for another 2 yrs and wait for cannonlake + 3dxpoint SSDs, with pascal GPU, matured ddr4 ram and usb 3.1 adoption.
waiting game forever -
Tell me what price they offer you.
I'm also interested

how do you guys afford getting $4k laptops every year... Seems like a waste not to use it until it is no longer usable.... or at least for 2 yearshmscott likes this. -

I'm going to see how much it is without the RAM upgrade from power-notebooks, compare that with Xotic PC and then choose between the 2 resellers.
I might also be purchasing a gs60 (probably 4k edition) for my grandmother (she can't read the screen on her 13 inch Sony laptop anymore) so I will have to see how that plays into things with discounts and whatnot.
Powernotebooks also offers 5% student discount on upgrades or a nb review discount in addition to free shipping and 3% cashback while xotic pc doesn't stack discounts w/ free shipping and 3% cashback.
XoticPC is also willing to apply clu on the CPU & GPU's for approx. $50.
If I use XoticPC i will forgo the haptics device b/c they want $100 to install it which is insane.Attached Files:

I'm from UAE , and my father buys them for me . But with a limit of 3800€/4100$.
and I only have the gt72 dominator pro dragon edition and msi gt80 titan with 980m sli.
but they will be nothing compared to the new gt80s with 980 sli. -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
still even the 980m sli can run anything you need... Just seems like you are shelling out money for no specific reason other than to shell out money... Overclocking the 980m's will pretty much provide the same performance as the 980 sli b/c of power limitations. The 980 sli is most likely going to power throttle...
That and with the NVME SSD's they stocked it with, it will probably be like $4,250 or more
By the time it comes out you might as well just wait for pascal. Also, it may not get GPU upgrades in the future or support 1080 sli due to power constraints...

Does Powernotebooks offer any CLU/pasting/cooling solutions aswell?
Because I'm actually pretty interested in that upgrade
EDIT: I saw in your attachment that they DO have the IC Dimond which is good enough I guess.
Will go through it again soon. gotta run
-
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
As far as I have seen clu reduces temps at least 5 C more than diamond which will benefit the HK CPU and prevent thermal throttling -

The differences depend on the heatsink and the setup, but I have never had such a big difference myself.

Is MSI's SHIFT (Green,Comfort, Sport) on the GT80S-002
Do you guys know if GenTech or PowerNotebooks do any type of military discounts for active and/or veterans (disabled). -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
3 percent discount is better b/c veteran/school discounts for gentech & xotic don't stack
I've done my research!

Thanks Mason, I think I may end up going with PowerN as well. I still want to wait for the GT80 with the 980s in SLI just so I can compare the real world stats but I'm leaning toward a build exactly like the one you posted earlier.
-
People, keep in mind that both 980m and 980 are power limited from the get go. This is something built in to the notebook and can only be removed with special vbios. That being said, if you guys do consider the machine for serious overclocking, definitely go with a second PSU and the adapter.
I still think 6820HK and 980m SLI is the best bang ,as 980 is bound to be much more expensive. -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
Yea however gentech and xotic price match and did u look at the RAM prices from powernotebooks - I'm really torn between xotic and powernotebooks. I have spoken with both companies representatives and both are really good... -
I don't think your issue is with the EC firmware. I have the 001 titan myself and I have no issues with wifi, running windows 10. Maybe you need to update or even downgrade your wifi drivers, as well as check for any power saving features.
I downloaded and installed the latest firmware and BIOS from the support page, even if the description said broadwell (I correctly selected 4th gen CPU). I have no issues on my machine, in that regard.hmscott likes this. -
OK guys. The little mini review is going up tonight when i get home. Sorry for the delay... If anyone here knows what epididymitis is.. then you can sympathize with me since waking sunday morning..

I was actually just skimming both sites a moment ago to compare and now that you bring that up, I am torn too. I'm stuck between the additional ram and the additional ssd space or doing both. Given the prices between both sites it makes Xotic a solid contender even-though they don't stack discounts.mason2smart likes this.

Xotic pc just got back to me on the price matching - they might be able to match prices for specific parts and upgrades?!?! -

Just know your stuff like they offer GPU overclocking and you can't really over clock the GPU cause of the power restrictions...so in turn there attempting to sell yiu something you don't need and YIU feel like your being robbed blah blah blah etc -
mason2smart Notebook Virtuoso
I not selecting those... I only have ram and ssd upgrades -

Point is to make them feel like there indebted to you and I used the I feel like I'm being robbed angle...see what I'm saying especially since I'm spending close to 5000 without tax -

Anyones GT80s ship today that ordered?
-

My payment was taken today I have rush build so next week sometime 8 lol have mine -
we dont see big difference the only real reason is laptop heatsink is too small. the amount of heat generated by cpu and transfered to the fins, airflow can't get rid of it fast enough so eventually temp builds up at a certain threshold. with a big enough heatsink and area surfance, CLU is pretty damn good, as I have modded heatsink so i can tell thats the case with M18x R2

Did anyone figure out if the led's were forced red or are only red?
Anyone try to enable multi-color back-lighting?
Thanks,

not worth the hassle lol

I hope not! I might just go with 980m SLI already because I want a powerful computer for now but it seems that one 980 (notebook) is on par with 970m SLI, so 980 (notebook) SLI is probably going to be 150% as powerful as 980m SLI..
Do you have military discount only for US soldiers? (I'm a US citezen) -
Still surprised to not see a review on the GT80s-002 yet or a vendor reply that they are released and actually in stock.
NewEgg is selling them so I would say that one answer to be confirmed completely.Last edited: Nov 4, 2015
