Hey guys, im curious if one of yall could help me out here. So i just picked up the gt80 titan and here are my specs:
MSI GT Series GT80 Titan SLI-094 Gaming Laptop 4th Generation Intel Core i7 4720HQ (2.60GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M SLI 8 GB GDDR5 (4GB x 2) 18.4" Windows 8.1
A huge reason for this buy was the fact of its upgradablilty. I am currently playing fallout 4 however it kinda sucks ass, this titan cant seem to handle it and it runs super choppy. i think its due to the weak cpu i opted for. Is the upgradeabilty only for the graphics cards, or can i upgrade the cpu as well? Im looking through msi's website for the the indivudal parts to upgrade into however i dont really know where to start, could one of u experts give me ur advice to this? i just wna play some fallout yo and i dont mind to drop some $$.
Thanks a ton!

Suspiciously / Ominously, Nvidia pulled the FO4 Performance Tuning Guide:
http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/guides/fallout-4-graphics-performance-and-tweaking-guide
...which was pretty extensive, just after FO4 release, and hasn't put it back up, so they are likely figuring out what to do about the shipping versions performance issues.
Here is the Google cached version:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...nd-tweaking-guide#fallout-4-graphics-settings
That doc has coverage of the tuning options, you should be able to improve things a bit by tuning down some options.

I'm running it "playable", although lowest settings (except a few) @ 1080p, on my Alienware14 - i7 4720HQ & a single GTX 765M

I believe SLI is not supported so a single 980 in the gt72 would technically give the best performance in that game.

power difference, never bothered to test but let say a computer battery can last 2hrs on wifi or watch movie, at the same clock with cstate turned off it'll last maybe 30 mins or less? lol.
performance increase isn't all that great, about 5% which is still decent.

Leave SpeedStep/Speed Shift on and reduce temps, power consumption, by running on Balanced mode as well. You don't need to have 100%/100% CPU High Performance set as your power plan.
This could boost scores for highest OC where you might thermal throttle at 100% CPU all the time under High Performance, you could run on Balanced Performance and get an even higher score - cooling in between load peaks lets you eliminate heat build up and not thermal throttle.Last edited: Nov 11, 2015mason2smart likes this. -
anyone has a gt80s in their hands yet? care to test how high multipler of CPU can go to and voltage/temperature it carry with 44+ multiplier? also test to see if ODD sata port can provide 6Gbps isntead of 1.5Gbps.. -
still thinking choosing between GT80s or clevo's 870. 17inch/18inch, one which can be delided and go for a cherry chip, both support dual psu, one might be able to hold 1 more 2.5" SSD which is a plus.

CrystalDiskMark and other apps that are performance sensitive to using High Performance vs Balanced Performance power plans should benefit.
You should be able to stay on Balanced Performance power plan instead of switching to the High Performance power plan to get the best throughput numbers, there may still be a difference, but it will be smaller than without Speed Step.
We've seen Intel briefly get the 6820HK to 4.2ghz -until it thermally throttled seconds later and they stopped the XTU benchmark test.
So far we have only seen the 6820HK run stably for gaming / apps at 4.0ghz.
I am not holding out much hope for 4.4ghz
The 6920HQ might run better, I would like to see if XTU will allow multiplier changes, like try 41x, then 42x - either might need positive voltage offset for the CPU / cache.
My GT80 SLI-263 with 5950HQ is stable with -15mv @ 40x, +60mv @ 41x, +115mV @ 42x, all cores. @ 36x cache multiplier needs no cache voltage offset change, but if I go to 37x cache it needs positive cache voltage offset of +0.9 to 40x, then +1.9 for 41x/42x.
The 6700HQ with XTU won't allow multiplier changes... updates of XTU could fix this...and the 6920HQ if it doesn't work out of the gate with the current XTU version.Last edited: Nov 10, 2015mason2smart likes this. -
Your problem is the weak GPUs with fallout 4 being a terrible coded game, that does not support SLI. Once SLI is properly implemented, you should have enough performance.
By the way, mobile CPUs are no longer upgradeable because intel now only ships soldered CPUs to mobiles. It sucks but at least 4720hq is pretty powerful.
Obviously, this is only for those with a heart for tweakingothers will get zero benefit from it hahaha

Damn. I really wanted a new laptop for gaming in general but mainly for the best fallout 4 experience..
I really doubt SLI wont be supported at all by bethesda
EDIT: found this
can anyone confirm that SLI does work and maybe how it runs/framerates @ ULTRA 1080p please?hmscott likes this. -

And, there is a new Nvidia driver for FO4 + recent releases - 358.91
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/94208/
The method in that video is the roll your own method by building on previous profiles - fortunately FO series has a running set of samples.
If you strike up a convo with @ImmortanJoe and get him to test SLI, please post back here to shareLast edited: Nov 11, 2015source144 likes this. -
Update on the new GT80S Skylake:
