Thanks, I finally saw it, but until we get an "official" statement from MSI on this I don't think the rest of us will trust it. After all it's just a private response to one person.

Also, I think MSI has messed up by limiting the submission for trade-in to Oct 31, 2016 as hardly anyone saw it.

There are going to be a lot of people upset by this when they find out after the fact that they missed the trade-in - they are still going to be demanding their MXM GPU Upgrades.

Well that response is from the person who sent out the emails stating that they received the MSI trade in form, so I think they are either in charge of the program or are a part of the team. They replied quickly after I sent them the form filled in. It isn't some random MSI tech. That was another reason I posted a screen to show the email address of the sender as it should look familiar to those people who have received confirmation that the form has been received.

But of course everyone should wait for an official statement....lol hahaha.....I just don't understand why there's been so little time and so little said in general about this topic from official MSI reps...........In an official msi rep thread lol

Yeah, let's hope it's a global promise to all those that submitted requests for trade-in's :)

BTW, I am requesting a mod to move all these posts to:

MSI, you need to make your "answers" I have been relaying "official" by posting them yourselves - as the eblast Answers FAQ, or whatever you want to call it.

When can you do this? :)

I don't mind helping out, but I can't take responsibility for your answers long term, please post them officially. :)

Dear MSI Reps... Could you please look into this ? Seems like someone forgot to tell your engineers that we have 230 Watt power supplies..

I just got my GT73 with GTX1070... A nice powerhorse... Or at least... it could be...

During the last weeks I tested a few things and that included monitoring the power draw.

The GT73 seems to be still limited to about 180 Watt - I can clearly tell because power draw of my 230 Watt power supply was (almost) NEVER exceeding about 207 Watt.
Why the heck do we even have a power supply that COULD provide 230 Watt according to it's specs ?

3DMark without power supply plugged in - without charging the battery (it was full enough) (last number is 3D Mark score).
    Eco 78W GPU ~1443Mhz 3909
    Comfort 195W GPU ~1600MHz 13184
    Sport 207W GPU ~1650MHz 13467
    Turbo 207W GPU ~1700MHz 13978
Battery was discharged slowly while in Sport and Turbo also power supply was plugged in.

3D Mark while charging (battery drained to below 90%), Turbo Mode:
    201W GPU stuck at about ~1670Mhz 12277

So what story do this numbers tell me:
    1. Hybrid Power is still there and it SUCKS... Hybrid Power was designed to cope with spikes in power draw. Current CPU and GPUs however are very good at optimizing the power draw pretty much to what they are designed for. So there are no spikes any more. Instead your battery is guarnteed to be drained during gaming even with power supply due to this hybrid power (un)feature.
    2. Hybrid Power sucks even more because once it sucked your battery to <90% it the GT73 will throttle even more to stay at about 180 Watt power draw while charging the battery. This results in lower performance while battery is charged.
    3. The GT73 is still limited to 180 Watt as was the very first GT72 ?!?!? (Power efficiency of the power supply is about 87% - so when my Wattmeter is showing 207 W the GT73 is actually getting/requiring 180 Watt)

All this is completely unnecessary as our power supplies could provide much more power than the GT73 with GTX0170 is actually using. So pretty please: Could someone tell your engineers that marketing decided to give us 230 Watt power supplies instead of the old 180 Watt power supplies about 2 years ago ???

There's a 10% reservation to prolong AC adapter life so with 180W AC adapter on the older generation of system which was drawing at 162W.
Yours is different generation so with 230W AC adapter it's drawing about 207W.
If you want, you can also perform an experiment by disconnecting the battery internally to see how the benchmark is without the battery.

So, I haven't looked at all the trade-in threads for a month, busy with work.

But what about us in Canada? I bought my GT80 with 2x980m EXPECTING to be able to upgrade..

Hmm... That actually would make sense... Unfortunately I was told last year by an MSI Rep when asking the same about my GT72 that the reserve is kept to be able to charge the battery while gamining... And now I found out that it isn't even used then... Furthermore... The AC adapter is specced with 230W OUTPUT (and that is not flanked with a "peak" keyword) so it should actually be able to provide 230W Output... and yet only 180 Watt are used (laptop side)... That's more than 10% reserve... Should be more like using 207 of the specced 230W OUTPUT (so about 237 Watt at the socket) - shouldn't it ?

Probably you are right but ... The whole Hybrid Power thing just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense (any more).

Furthermore I should add that I meanwhife found the GT73 to be throtteling in 3D Mark while in sport mode with charging battery ! The power draw (socket) even dropped to about 180-190 Watt in 3DMark Combined test. Watt the f*ck (pun intended)?

(Remark to all readers: When reading this please do not confuse power draw at socket with actual power the laptop gets/uses as you need to consider the AC adapters efficiency of about 87%).

Would the GT73 detect when I connect a 330 Watt AC adapter ? Would it up the game ? How does the GT73 with GTX1080 and 330 Watt AC KNOW it is allowed to use more power ?

So that covers the 9xx series GPU upgrade if you own one.

How possible is it to upgrade an MSI GT72VR with a 1060 GTX to a 1070 GTX?

@MSIGeno , little bit upset as I am not on the website regularly, seems I am late to the party but bought a GT72 2QE Dom Pro G in Aug. I am interested in the upgrade option but I DID NOT get the form completed and submitted by OCT 31. How can I go about submitting a form and get possible connsideration for the upgrade. My sole purpose of this laptop choice was for future upgradeability? Is there a link to the form I can at least complete and submit even if it is past the deadline mentioned of OCT 31-16

MSI has extended the trade-in indefinately, at least through the life of the Volta GPU - 2nd generation upgrade - so download the form and fill it in - send it to the address in the form.

Download the form from here, it may take a couple of tries, the NBR file server is cantankerous:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...rade-discussion.795236/page-234#post-10370534

MSI has just started responding to owners to get the upgrade, so be patient and wait for a response.

You can get lots of questions answered from the info in Post #1 here, and from the thread itself - start reading backwards in time to get the most recent info as the tone has changed over the entire thread.

    HI MSI,

would it be possible for you to extend your trade in to other countries like Australia? Messaging your Australian team, they do no appear interested in helping at all as the trade in program is US only.

How can I trust in your products if offers are country specific, and specifically to a country I don't live in?

    Regards,
    Matt

Can we get an update as to when you expect to have all offers out to the US customers that have filled out the trade in form? I filled out and turned in the form a day or two after this was announced and only thing i have been told was to be patient.

Keep in touch with them but other than that, I am sorry but that's how markets work. Each market is independent and so will be products, associated costs, standards and everything. Resources are also different for each segment of the company, so naturally their biggest markets will have more readily available resources.

In my country, there is, and won't be any MSI program because MSI is not present directly here compared to other countries. I don't even get the priviledge of being able to buy several of their products. I need to import them. This is an issue that goes far beyond "MSI is not interested in helping".

MSI Representatives here have helped a lot of users get in touch with their brands, and helped voice our comments, to the point the program was created. I am sure if you keep contacting your branch, you can slowly make a difference. Hopefully you will have an answer regarding the upgrade program for your country, but depending on your local user base, most likely the program will differ greatly.

Keep in touch with the US mail you sent your form to. It took them a long while to answer me but they did, and you have to keep consistently in touch. The US team dedicated to the program is different than the MSI representatives here, so while MSI reps here do help voice our concerns, it is best to keep emailing them to get an answer.

For the time being, it seems that the program does not have an expiration date, and so far we finally have an official post/news about it on their page. This program will keep evolving with all of your opinions. Some countries that weren't even aware are now even offering it.

I have a little issue with Dragon Center about the CPU fan curve in my GT73VR. I wanted to try Advanced mode but I can't adjust the fan curve properly because the missing bars are above the first bar. I can't use Auto fans because it keeps the GPU to 63-65C and it gets loud. One week ago auto fans mode was great CPU and GPU stay 73-75C and the fans were very quiet.

Hey Guys, i have a question regarding the 48hz panel of the MSI Laptop. I tried to force them to 60hz, because i read that the panel (samsung ....) are able to work on 60hz. Whatever i tried a lot about with EDID, Cru etc. Nothing worked.
I just wanted if it would be possible with an Custom Bios? Do anybody have tried something like that. I saw many posts in the "Svet" Custom Bios section in the MSI Forum but no answers. Hope u can help me.

    That 4k display doesn't OC, 48hz is it :)
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-refresh-rate-only-48hz.781196/#post-10089530

Some new 4k displays, higher priced top end laptops, will do 60hz with G-sync.

And, rumors of a 120hz 4k display have been around for about 6 months, but nothing has shown up yet.

You can also ask technical questions of MSI Technical Support, they may even offer to fix your laptop out of warranty for a nominal amount - or not so nominal, but it's worth checking, and you can get the part numbers from them:

    https://register.msi.com/home/login

Maybe someone will answer here, but your best bet is there for technical info.

Does the display property sees the screen at all?
How about input source on the monitor? Is it set to use USB?
Also, are you using a direct USB Type C to Type C cable?

I think the only one that would know is a dealer, and they likely won't give a date until it's in hand - or at least verified in transit :)

Do you have other device that you can connect to test with? Have you also reported the issue to MSI tech support?

    Excellent!

Are there any plans to replace the RG/BW Pentile display in the GS63VR 4K model with a true 4K panel? I don't really consider use of the pentile matrix to be an honest way to claiming the 3840x2160 spec, and I also think it's less practical than "lower-resolution" true-resolution displays such as the old 3K 2880x1620, which shows more color detail with less GPU work. A lot of laptops are moving onto true high-resolution displays, and I would really like another high-res 15.6" laptop that I can recommend around the forums.

For those who aren't familiar with the issue, it's this:

It's possibly a compatibility issue, would you be able to test the monitor with another USB Type-C output device? If not, then please proceed to report the issue to MSI.

hi Kevin, the screen in my laptop (see signature) which is the 120hz/5ms / FHD screen with GSYNC, can you tell me what is the exact model? brand / model number?

also, you state that it takes 2400MHz RAM on your site, I ordered mine with 2666 MHz 64GB RAM from HIDevolution but some users are saying here that 2800MHz is fine

what is your take on this?

Hi Phoenix, regarding the model which is 425 as mentioned by Jaibsm since he wanted to know the spec of the screen.
Also, I replied based on general specification, sure 2800MHz will work too because we included them in our build options.
