To follow up from my previous question regarding the RG/BW Pentile displays, I have found more confirmation that the 2016 MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro 4K did in fact use an LCD model number that typically refers to an RG/BW Pentile display, instead of a true (RGB) 3840x2160.

Any word on if the display in the new 2017 15.6" model will achieve the full RGB 3840x2160 resolution?

    Thanks!

I'd generally recommend getting it from MSI's site for your model.

For the MSI USA Trade-in, you can still submit the form to start the trade-in process, even though the web page says it expired 12/31/2016:
    http://event.msicomputer.com/usagttradein/

See the 2nd Red subscript for form download and email address links on that web page :)

I've gotten this recently to confirm MSI USA Trade-in Team is still accepting forms from owners:

01/30/2016 Updates from MSI USA Trade-in Team:
    "Hi Scott,

I just spoke with my PM, he said we will still honor the 2nd GPU upgrade.

We will still honor the people submit their application later.

The whole point of the deadline was to generate a list of people that are interested in the program, a list of who to reach out to for the 2nd GPU upgrade and who not to.

As far as I know, we will honor late submitters for US APPLICANT ONLY."

Does MSI have any Ryzen/Vega notebooks planned? I realize that Vega won't show up until Q2 and we don't have details, but perhaps OEMs are working on it...

If they can stuff desktop Intel/Nvidia setups into notebooks, this should be doable with Ryzen, as TDPs are comparable. I'm holding off my next purchase to see how Ryzen shakes up the market.

Asking this question is pointless, as those of us who do not know will not know the answer, and those that are here who DO know are under NDA to not say anything until they are officially released.

That being said, you can be sure if there is a substantial reason to make such a product exists (which there is), the product will probably be made and come out in due time.

I love your guys products, and have been using them for over 20 years, I am currently living in Japan, and I purchased my gt83vr directly from MSI JP. Your support staff have no clue about what the hell they are doing and I don't get any straight answers whatsoever. I get completely strange replies, outright lies, and I have almost been framed out of my warranty. They refuse to even admit whether my compute4r is indeed a global warranty, and they make excuses like we have to contact MSI Taiwan, right after the post about saying that if I contract MSI, there will be conflicting information about my laptop computer, even though I know how licensed distributors of BTO "whitebook" computers work, and what components they share with the gt83vr, all over the world, and they use the same exact components. Either these guys are completely clueless, or there is something wrong within the chain of command. I'd really like to get down to the bottom of this, since I have had great service from MSI, for as long as I can remember, and I really love this laptop computer that I have purchased (gt83vr 6rf titan sli gtx 1080). I can't believe how terribly MSI JP is treating me, after spending 7000USD on a laptop, and VR kit. I am worried to even take my computer out of the country in fear of my warranty being void, if I were to bring it out. Please help. I am a native speaker of both English and Japanese, and this guy that I've been speaking to, is ridiculous, and the so called "service" has been completely atrocious, time consuming. He also refuses to stop closing my processes before the problem is concluded, and will not take any of my phone calls, as he says, "I do not deem it necessary," at this time. Even though the problem is that they can't explain the problem to me, with proper computer lingo, in Japanese to me. They are also adamant to tell me that my laptop has a IPS panel, and it is a complete and blatant lie. I try to explain to them it's a sPLS panel, that even the Fangbooks I sell use, but they do not want to hear this, maybe in fear that I will try to return it? Please help me, the guys name is shin-i sama, from MSI JP, and before I even explained any problem, he said that he would absolutely deny any return claims.

Please contact MSI directly. MSI representatives here are community managers and are not in charge or have authority to help in very specific customer support cases. Moreover, each MSI branch is independent, but you will have much better luck contacting MSI HQ directly to see if they can help.

As for the screen, PLS and IPS tech is very similar, and in the market they have basically treated them as the same, so that basically any system you can find several manufacturers as having IPS screens when some are PLS.

There I edited the post for you, keeps me from more headache. thx

You don't understand, I purchased from MSIJP that was advertising the unit with a IPS display. Not an IPS level display, it distinctly says IPS. sPLS technology is derived from Samsung, and it is definitely not the same tech, whatsoever as IPS display's. As IPS displays' were derived from touchscreen display technologies. They are completely different components. I don't understand why those guys, don't properly stipulate that these are sPLS display's from the beginning, is it because of some inferiority complex, or as you say, it is because the market treats them the "same," whatever that means, as it would also alleviate a lot of headaches. Who stipulated that PLS technology is IPS technology. They are completely different technologies, though I do understand that the screen quality derived from sPLS display's can be similar to IPS, please explain to me in what way they are similar. I had this same problem when I purchased the gt73vr and it was advertised as having a IPS level display and though, yes, this particular TN display had a very wide viewing angle, it ended up being an TN display. Not IPS level as previously stated. This disinformation crap that you guys pull with word games can piss off a lot of people, and cause unwanted headaches, so why not just do away with them, once and for all and avoid the confusion?

Just because the market has treated them the same, how does the end user, understand, or reconcile, or even confirm that kind of information. I've never seen any other manufacturer display misinformation like MSI's site as of late. Especially after the GT80 titan sli debacle, with the promises of up gradable GPU's in laptops. Is this a ploy to sell more laptops, in this case, the trend seems to point fingers in the right directions. But in terms of sPLS/ PLS/ and IPS display's alike, I can't find any numbers regarding the public looking at one or the other in a certain way or not.

So you are not a licensed distributor for whitebooks?

The technology behind each display tech is entirely different. The reason the market treats them as "the same" is only because the end result and performance is very similar. you bought a monitor because it was IPS and it turns out it wasn't, it was just "IPS quality". If such a screen does not work for you, you are within your right to return it. Complaining about how the tech behind is different serves no purpose because the average user wants results, not how it gets there.

For example, the screen itself is nice, but it is only 6bpc, and that's not advertised either. the GT73VR TN panel is 8bpc and demonstrably shows better color. The problem is that the average consumer tends to rationalize "Better colors" with IPS, and when the GT73 has a TN, they would prejudice against it thinking it is inferior, when it is infact superior as a display despite being TN. That being said, I never once saw the GT73 being advertised as IPS, I always saw it as TN and bought it knowing full well it was TN.

I don't work for MSI and I will warn you right now to keep it civil. No need to curse or being rude when presenting an argument or posting here. I agree that misinformation is bad for the consumer and they should correctly label al products.

You can only confirm by directly checking each part number, if the information is not readily available. I agree that all labels should stick to the truth instead of market terms. I don't believe your theory of the GT80 debacle regarding upgrade mxm GPUs, as unlike the GT72, the GT80 faces the most difficulty to upgrade. The GT80 could only use exactly the GTX1070 as an upgrade path, because 1060 is non SLI and 1080 is out of the question for the design in the GT80. You could say it was a bad design from the get go, and they corrected it with the GT83.

GT72 is another story, this one was better designed from the start and can accomodate 1060 and 1070, just not 1080.

Now, if you have more questions for MSI representatives here, feel free to ask them. If you want to argue about specific products or the upgrade program, feel free to post on any of the appropriate topics for it.

May I get the specific statistical data on worldwide consumers, and prosumer delivering a product that pertains to PLS and IPS panel differences, not trying to argue, would really make good use of that data. This is what I tried to ask on behalf of many decieved people on my last post which you for some reason promptly deleted. Just emperical evidence to straighten data out would help consumers make the best possible purchase and for prosumers/corporations that are non native English speakers to be able to honor the service and warranty on a product with what is aptly considered a global warranty. Or do you think my candor is obtuse at best, once again? I apologized before, please, may I, am for whom should be notified, recieve this data, of which you speak of?

There are single gt73vr SL models available for sale, depends on country and SKU afaik, but I own one, thus know they exist.

    You mean the GT73VR with 2 x 1070?

I want to know if the GT73VR with a single 1070 will have an upgrade kit with the cooling and 1070 to make it the same as the GT73VR with 2 x 1070.

How can I get in contact with anyone regarding the Trade-In program? I sent in my form in the first week of December, 2016 and received a reply with the breakdown in pricing and models with the instructions to reply back on December 9th. I replied to that email with the specifics on December 10th. It's been over 3 months now and I haven't received any information back on if I can send my laptop in, where to send it to, anything. No response at all. I have since sent 2 more responses over the past month and I've still heard nothing back.

What phone number would that be? They've never provided any contact info except for the email address that they continue to ignore. I've now sent 7 replies to the initial response to filing my trade-in form. In a week it will be 4 months from initial contact with no solution to my predicament in sight.

And better question: why is it ok for MSI to ignore end users like this? I've bought close to $10,000 worth of MSI products over the past 15 years and this is REALLY souring any brand loyalty I used to feel for them. Regardless of if I ever actually get this trade-in completed (which is looking more and more like it's just never going to happen), I don't believe MSI is ever going to be the first brand I look for again when I'm doing a new build or upgrading a previous one. Three high-end gaming laptops, 4 high-end graphics cards in desktop builds, 4 high-end motherboards in desktop builds... MSI came to us with the trade-in offer after they couldn't adhere to their marketing promises, and now they can't even adhere to their own trade-in program due to flat-out ignoring people they offered it to. This is abysmal customer service.

Do people with FPO/APO addresses also count for the trade in?

As far as I know, APO/FPO cannot be used but it's best to bring these questions to MSI directly.

    Hi.

Just got GT72VR 7RE with 7700 GTX 1070 32GB ram 2400Mhz and 256GB SSD, all working great but..

I have some fps drops in BF1 and after everything is 100% optimzed i found out that the GPU power limit is to low. In MSI kombuster it only get to 95% in usage.

Firestrike i got 13288 Score in normal and thats "okay" no oc.

I cannot in afterburner set power limit. :(

Is there any vbios for the GPU so it can take full power, and have other seen this problem? Thanks.

There isn't any VBIOS mod available for Pascal GPU yet.

There won't be unlocked vbios for Pascal, noone has done it yet, and it's likely never going to happen. So unless Nvidia opens up some controls to vendors, it's gonna stay right where it's at.

They will send it to a US address if you have one, usually best to have it sent to a family member/friend then have it forwarded to you. They don't do USPS.

You can however send your old unit back via USPS.
