I, too, am having the issue with Nahimic's profiles not working. I cannot click on them, though every other button seems fine. Anyone have an update on this?

Let me check on this for you, seems pretty odd that everything else works but the profiles.

Hi, I'm very interested in the "MSI GS60 GHOST PRO-606" but living in France, I have no idea when it will be available.
Do you know if I will be able to get one before Septembre please?

606 is an US SKU, you may have to check with your local MSI office or your reseller to find out available SKUs.

Hello, I need help and confirmation on knowledge I have researched from sites before buying an SSD for my MSi GT602OD Dominator( http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT60-DOMI...3&sr=1-3&keywords=MSI+Computer+GT60+DOMINATOR).
I have a 1 TB HDD installed right now, but I want to add an SSD in another bay, a Samsung 500 gig SSD( http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OBRE5UE/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza).

    1. Will the Samsung SSD work in the msi gt60?
    2. Do I need to buy a mounting kit and cable accessory in order to install and use the SSD? (Didn't need them when replacing a HDD)
3.I have Windows 8.1 OS already installed, do I need to order a Windows 8 CD to install for the SSD drive?
    4. Will BSODs(blue screen of death) possibly occur?
    5. Will I be able to install it myself by watching a youtube installation video?
    6. Can I use BurnRecovery to add data to the SSD?
    7. Will I lose data on my main HDD when I install the SSD?

Clarification, Super Raid 2 is available, but I will not be enabling RAID.

    1. Samsung SSD will work, either SATA or mSATA type, depends on whether you have SuperRAID or not.
    2. Just the mounting kit if you want to utilize ODD bay.
    3. No, simply create recovery discs from your stock OS, then restore OS onto the SSD once it's installed.
    4. No.
    5. Yes, but there may be differences between video and your actual process.
    6. No, you cannot.
    7. No, unless you are going to swap out the drive, and backup is always strongly recommended.

Thank you for the response Kevin. :)
Ok, I will get only the mounting kit with the Samsung SSD. I have some follow up questions.
    1. I have Super Raid, but I'm not using it.
    2. Is there a cable available already then since you say not to buy it? ODD bay? I'm just adding to what's available. (Please don't take this as sarcasm, I am a complete novice at this, I've only replaced a HDD from a Gateway laptop)
    3. I have a Western Digital External Hard Drive... can it create a recovery disc for the stock OS? Please dumb the answer down for me for #3 and explain the process. :(
    5. Should I contact a repair shop for the installation process after I get the parts? I haven't opened up the GT60 laptop yet. ...I don't want to break stuff... T.T
    7. I am not swapping out the drive. Just adding an SSD to a secondary bay. Wait, can I back up my data on my external hard drive? I don't know where to find that option.
    8. To install the SSD I just need to buy the SSD and the mounting kit?

    1. If you have ODD-to-SATA mounting kit, then you can use it to support SATA SSD.
    2. If you have SuperRAID, then you can use M.2 SSD.
    3. You have to use the stock OS to create recovery discs via MSI BurnRecovery utilities, there are no other ways.
    5. If you follow the instructions on-screen, or online, then you will be able to restore OS by yourself using recovery discs. You will need to boot to the first disc to initiate the process.
    7. If you are adding, then it shouldn't affect the primary drive, and yes you can back up your data onto an external drive.
    8. Only if you are going to mount it in the ODD bay (optical drive).

They will eventually refresh all models with the new USB spec, that's a given and will probably appear with new intel CPUs and all. As for the dock, I doubt we will see a cable variant, as it was designed with the lowest latency possible. Maybe it can be done without impacting performance too much, but we will see :)

Maybe end of the year for the new USB, but I doubt about the cable for this year.

Yeach "the lowest latency possible" but at what a cost? There is rumour about one model that is gonna be out in August/September. New GS60 with this usb and docking station would be great (future-prof for GPU)

Ok thanks anyway now it's much better but still (thunderbolt 3 would be better 40 gb/s while your dock achieves 32 gb/s according to site). G-sync/free sync upgrade would be nice.

Thunderbolt 3 has less than half of the bandwidth of PCIe X16 though, so it will limit very high end GPUs that need the extra bandwidth. I think Thunderbolt 3 is about 40Gbps. full 16x PCIe is what, 16GBs per sec?

Gsync/freesync you mean internal monitor right? As technologies progress, they should become the standard, so we can enjoy the best possible experience.

    from MSI GS30 global website
"Unleash the most stunning visual effect and deliver the most exciting gaming experience by full bandwidth of PCI-e x16. Data transmission is up to 32GB/s and the graphics power can be totally released.
Support the top grade desktop-level graphics: GTX 980 and Titan." So maybe they are wrong?

Ah no, I got it wrong, it is 16GB bidirectional, so 32GB/s or 256Gbps, compared to 40Gbps of Thurnderbolt.

    Hi!

I'm looking at the GE72 Apache Pro-077 or possibly the GE62 Apache Pro-055/219. I think I'm seeing that the biggest difference between the two GE62 models is that the 055 comes with 12GB of RAM vs 16GB with the 219, right?

I'm also wondering how the screen quality in MSI laptops compares to the ones found on Sager or Gigabyte units, and how good the cooling systems are compared to those manufacturers. Thanks!

The GE62 models also have different CPU's.
    055 = 4th Gen i7-4720HQ
    219 = 5th Gen i7-5700HQ

    Hi there,

Hopefully I post this topic in right forum.
I have GS70-2QE which I reinstall the window and driver by myself. However my AltGr key doesn't work after reinstall. I normally use it for typing some foreign symbol. After read through same problem that people had, it might be some driver that cause AltGr to stop working. I downloaded all newest drivers from MSI website. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

    Cheers,
    William

Are both ALT keys not working? Or just one side?
Can you try resetting the keyboard settings in SteelSeries software and see what happens?

    Hello,
I dont know if its the best place to ask but here it goes.I'm interested in buying MSI GT72 2QD (1077XPT) EAN: 4719072394868,as far as i know it comes with only 1 HDD and no SSD.If i want an SSD i have to replace my optical drive or my HDD.What i want to know is if this model comes with m.2 adapter so i can use it without removing my HDD or drive. Thanks in advance :)

As far as I know, the GT72 has the physical slots for m.2 drives, as well as a single 2.5 inch HDD bay. You shouldn't need to remove your optical disc drive to ad an SSD if you are going with an m.2 sata SSD.

I think you would need, at most, the screws to hold the m.2 drive in place.

Hopefully a GT72 user or a reseller can confirm this.

    Hi Kevin,

Button AltGr currently just working as simple alt button. And yes, I've tried to restore it to factory setting, and it doesn't help.

Only SuperRAID models will have the M.2 adapter, otherwise they do not.

What about BIOS and EC firmware update? Have you tried those?
If your Alt works in BIOS mode, or DOS, then you shouldn't have any issues.

Question: In my local store, GS60 with GTX970M 3GB is only $300 more than PX60 with GTX950M 2GB while everything else besides audio/the number of speakers appear to be the same.

What caused this rather small price difference?

Does PX60 have better display even though they both have True Color Technology installed?

    For the tl dr readers:
-Looking for a response from MSIGino for the availability of the Broadwell GS30 2M Shadow?
-Absent that, undervolting haswell gs30 shadow cut temps and fan noise noticeably?
-BIOS update so I can have video with the GS30 Haswell while docked?

    More detail:

A lightning strike took out most of my desktop. I have an older toshiba plastic ultrabook with an i3-2364 processor. Thinking about replacing desktop completely with MSI GS30 Shadow with the docking station. I like computing on my lap.

The MSI GS30 Shadow-001/045 performs well with the 4870HQ. However, it gets hot and noisy. Real hot and noisy.

Take a look at this link:
    http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GS30-2M-Shadow.html#hero-overview

I clicked on "where to buy" and the link helpfully gave me a boatload of retailers to online chat or call. Gruntwork is fine, so I proceed. So, I online chatted a half dozen places which did not know that the GS30-2M (with broadwell, not haswell) existed.

Calling MSI does not help. No, MSI is not lazy. I have worked at a computer company before. However, I wonder if anybody at MSI (besides the very kind operator) who is not busy as hell (Skylake looming)? I called both sales and marketing, and surprisingly, the recording stated everybody was busy, please hold. The phone then just kept ringing.

Then, I thought, check out the MSI forums.

Not much activity other than this post:

    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=258639.0

Correct me if I am wrong, of course. Would not be the first time nor will it be the last time I was wrong... ;)

    There is a youtube video:

If this is an embargoed product, fine by me. Why it is on their website, I have no idea. I have a feeling MSI is gearing up for Skylake. Hopefully MSI Geno will reply:

"i don't know what you are talking about" or "it will be at retailers X Month 2015" (since 2016 will the Skylake's year).

When I worked in corporate america, I hated explaining to a client something which was a clear contradiction. I generally replied with silence or the company line.

    So, given that:
-The Broadwell version of the GS30 Shadow (5700HQ) will throw off much less heat than the 4870HQ, but I cannot buy the GS30 2M Broadwell with the mini docking station in the next month,
    I have one more question:

I am really worried about the heat on this system. I will be using this from a hotel room to an airplane. Has anybody undervolted/underclocked the MSI CPU (4870HQ) on the GS30 to get the heat (thus, the fan noise) down? If so, by how much?

    Thanks for your time,

    GB

Are there any plans to make a GT72 with a non-crappy keyboard? Meaning with normal key layout, and one that takes full advantage of the 17.3" chassis size, rather than cramming a squished keyboard that belongs, at most, on a 15" laptop?

There's so much wasted space on the GT72 keyboard. Even my old 15" Latitude has a much better, full-sized keyboard that is MUCH easier to use and type on. The num pad is particularly bad on the GT72.

I find it hard to believe this is something SteelSeries came up with.

What is exactly bad on it? Wasted space because it doesn't use the full wide size of the laptop? If you can type on a 15 incher, you can type on the GT72. Just because it uses a different layout does not mean it is bad inherently, simply different. When you tried it, did it felt off or something? It has a similar distributuon to my GT60 and that keyboard is great, nice feedback and overall typing experience.

As far as I am aware, it uses a similar distribution to the P750m to begin with.

The keys are small and squished together, especially the number pad. And yes it IS wasted space. And lazy. You have a wider frame, use it.

The Clevo keyboards are better. Larger keys, better spacing, better layout. I know because I have both machines.

It's a good laptop, but that keyboard...

Yes you can type on a 15". But why not improve?

Also, I bought the GT72 2QD, came with 8GB of RAM and a 1 TB HDD. I want to install more RAM and add a SSD.

However, there is a silly sticker covering one of the screws on the bottom panel that says "warranty void if tampered".

What gives? You make a modular system that can be upgraded but we can't upgrade it ourselves?

    Hey GeorgiaBoy,

We currently do not sell the Broadwell version of the GS30 in the US. The reason why it shows up is because you are linking to our global website and when you click on "where to buy", it will redirect to our Available US retailers.

Our HQ engineers are working on some updates to get the most efficiency/thermals out of the unit, which should get the noise/heat slightly lower (although from my general use and testing of the GS30, i had no issues with heat or noise)

Lastly, regarding the display while docked. From my understanding, currently it is not a matter if the bios allows it or not (it is not disabled), but if the graphics card that is in the dock compatible with the display on the GS30 itself.

If you take a look back earlier in the thread, the topic has already been discussed. We will honor your warranty even if you alter/tamper with the stickers, as long as whatever the issue is, was not caused by user error. If it is indeed a manufacturer defect, we will honor the warranty. If you have opened it yourself to do upgrades and damaged it along the way, then we will not honor the warranty anymore. the stickers are there more as a precaution, as many users might not know how to properly install etc. :)

Cool, this is exactly what I was thinking, I knew I saw it in an official video somewhere but good to hear you confirming it here. Patiently awaiting the arrival of my GT72. Also for the GPU upgrade do you have to send it back to MSI to have them upgrade it or can kits be sent to the customer for them to do the install themselves?

Congrats on the gt72! the GPU's can be upgraded by sending them to one of our authorized upgrade program partners. We guarantee upgrades for up to 2 future generation cards.

So the users can't upgrade the GPU themselves later on? The laptop has to be sent in?

Hi Guys, about to lose my lovely GS60 to a family member that need a light laptop so the question is what to replace it with. While I like the weight I could do with a little more storage and a 3K screen, and a possible return to a 17" laptop.
    • Do any of the GS70, GE72 models come with a better than FHD screen?
    • How easy is it to upgrade the SSD's on the GE62? are they on the front or the back of the MB?
    • Anything else (diff models) coming in the next 2-3 months that'd be worth waiting for?
    John.

MSIGeno, so I can swap out the 3 x 8GB of HMT41GS6BFR8A-PB that came with my GT80-263 for 4x 8GB g.skill F3-2133C11Q-32GRSL without voiding my warranty?

Why put the Void Warranty sticker over the screw that releases the upgrade panel on top? We can't add memory add storage without piercing that sticker...

Hey guys love you all I recently just got my gt72 dominator pro with g-sync gtx 980m, core i7 5700 hq with 24 gigs ram. I was wondering how strong is the usb ports cause I feel like its a bit tough for me to insert my flash drives and pull them out most of the time and I feel like it is going to break with the way I am trying to insert the usb and eject them can somone tell me how durable they are?

also I would like to know if the speaker grilles at the top are resistant to minor liquids like cleaning liquid and water? Would it be okay to use cleaning liquid/water when cleaning near the speakers? There seems to be 2 layers of speaker grilles the very top black plastic grilles with slightly larger holes and the red grilles underneath with micro holes protecting the speaker drivers from dust and other objects. From the looks of it msi did look like they did take protection into consideration when designing it but would it be okay to use liquid water sprays to clean the keyboard and where the speakers are located?

Does anybody know how to fix MSI bricked BIOS's? I have a bricked BIOS but my laptop still boots to the OS. When I press the DEL key it goes straight to a black screen, so now I can't clean install anything anymore. The OS is Windows 10 Pro and everything works but the BIOS. I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. Than I tried to do Windows 10 "PC Reset", it failed so I did a clean install. Windows 10 was in the works since Oct 2014. There's no excuse why their aren't any drivers on the main MSI website for ALL recent models, especially the BIOS? The whole world is updating and this is unprofessional!

We are currently in the process of rolling out our Windows 10 drivers and utilities. they take a couple days to sync to the US website, but you can search on the MSI Global website for your notebook. We should have everything up within the next 1-2 weeks.
