thought it might be a good idea to ask around here as well.
Concerning the msi apache pro-055:
seeing that due to the 150w psu the battery drains even when plugged in while playing games, so I'm wondering:
1. is it possible to plug in a 180w psu without issues and fix the problem? and if so which one would be a good idea to buy? Or would msi themselves send you one if you inquire?
2. does it only start draining the battery on very heavy load or simply whenever the 970m is being used regardless, and how fast does it drain?
3. Is it possible to fix the problem by downvolting/downclocking the cpu/gpu and how much of a performance hit would it be?
4. for what reason is msi not using a 180w psu for this laptop?
5 is there any drawback to undervolting a cpu, for example voiding warranty or a chance of damaging it?
Thank you in advance. -

For your information, your concerns are valid but not needed. Under full load, GE62 creates about 40 dB in fan noise, since the airflow is required to pump out the heat. You can't really perform very intense loads because Prime95 and Furmark are for stress-testing use only so it's not normal loading.
If you want to reduce the noise, you can get notebook cooler to help to move airflow and when the system does not detect as much heat then the fan speed will not rev up.
The models used in comparison do not even offer the same type of performance as GE62 did.
Acer Aspire V15 Nitro = 860M
ASUS GL550JK = 850M
But since it's a bit of budget type, there are cost reductions in terms of material, like the temperature can be a bit warm on the surface because heatsink is smaller. MSI wouldn't release a product with serious flaw, not to mention GE62 has been out there in the market for awhile already.Zanyar_98 likes this. -

2. It starts draining the battery under heavy load when GPU requires it. A full charge gives you about an hour or more of high performance.
3. Yes, just a little bit.
4. Cost reasons, from AC adapter to DC jack to power circuit design, etc. GE62 is categorized under value-segement.
5. It's usually advantages due to lower amount of heat, and warranty-wise as long as there are no physical damage caused to the processor then you are fine. -
@geno can I ask you something this might sound stupid but I was eating an orange and when i chomped on the the orange the orange juiced sprayed onto my keyboard and speakers not alot of juice. my speakers and keyboard still work fine. Should I be worried as I didn't turn off my computer when this happened, I continued to use it as I thought its not alot of water, I just went and got paper and wiped it off. Should I be worried?

Do not attempt to use hair dryer to dry the liquid as the hot air can melt the keyboard keys, unless your hair dryer can blow cool air. -
thank you for the reply
Are you saying that even with a 180w psu, the system itself will just draw 150w regardless? -

I have an MSI GE60 Apache Pro with an Intel COre i7 4710HQ CPU and GTX 860M graphics card. I have two main issues:
1) I cannot get this damn thing to keep the right time of day. It constantly does not keep time after I change the time to the correct time zone and time of day in Windows. I am wondering if I should put in a new button battery? Please help this makes any Scheduled tasks using Outlook or PC time based applications impossible to use.
2) I have an HP Pavilion 23tm monitor plugged in via HDMI port with a brand new HDMI cable supplied by HP and I can't seem to play games with any stability on the Monitor even though it is the same resolution as the notebook's 15.6" screen. I believe they are both running at 60Hz as well. I am not using the touch screen functionality of the HP monitor either, just as my main screen because it is much larger and looks better for movies, and games, but it won't seem to let me play Battlefield 4 on the monitor.
Please help me get to the bottom of these issues as they have plagued me for 6 months and if I can't resolve them I will be forced to change to a different notebook that can do what I want. Thanks! -

The light should turn to orange while it's in use, otherwise it's blue. -
Also verify you are only outputting visuals to the monitor alone, via the nvidia control panel. You could also verify if there are drivers for your particular monitor, that might improve user experience.

concerning the Ge62 apache pro:
Some more questions:
I was thinking of adding some more ssd storage,
is this: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-850-EVO-250-MZ-N5E250BW/dp/B00TGIVZTW/ a good choice?
or are there better options?
also, is the warranty sticker on top of the screw just a warning of "if you mess up and break something you're on your own?" -
And you're correct on the sticker! -
Im having great difficulties with my bluetooth.
I have a gt70 20D... SCM seems to be in full control weather or not my Bluetooth (Atheros Qualcomm Killer 1202) stays on or not. It will stay on for couple of seconds max, giving it sometimes enough time to show up in device manager, before dissapearing. Absolutely clueless as what to do, been trying countless different things, got all the latest drivers and windows updates that seemed to have been the problem for other etc. and yea just clueless what to try next. -

3. USB 3.0 Port with SuperCharger
SuperCharger USB port provides faster power charging function for Apple devices when the
notebook is in power off mode. -

Hi there,
I was wondering why MSI support centers supposedly only do full repairs? I had factory defects on my device but was forced to pay 235 euros to replace outside covers, or otherwise they would fix none of my problems under warranty. (!) In my eyes the scratches are also very small and I just don't quite get the reasoning behind this, since there is bound to be some scratches after some time. Could you please explain why this policy is in place? (Or was the retailer just too stubborn too pass the info on that I only wanted to replace the parts under warranty??). Also 235 euro seems very high to replace metal covers in my honest opinion (do they contain special materials, what justifies the price?).
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
But they may not replace the chassis since they can decide if the scratches are valid or not, so at least, they may not replace the chassis but if the issue is internal then MSI should take it back for service. -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
MSI required you to pay for the new chassis or they would not fix the parts covered under warranty? That is not typical for the U.S repair center, but policies may vary internationally.
-
I explicitly asked for partial repair several times and Coolblue kept telling me it was impossible.Must admit I got pretty frustrated because honestly, fixing 2milimeter hairline scratches really wasn't a priority for me. Thus why I am asking here. if the European branch does indeed do partial fixes, at least I can inform the retailer so other people don't get screwed over (they are one of the biggest in the region).
Honestly wish Xotic or Gentech had European branches. At least you people really care about the customer. Actually, if you know about a good European retailer be sure to let me know.

We can't make this complaint for you because we will not be able to do much for you, but since you are directly involved so you can file this complaint directly with MSI headquarter.
You can even call their customer service line directly at Taipei, Taiwan and they will speak English with you.

When is the GS70 6QD due out, September / November?
-
So, I know this might seem like a superficial question, but it's a quick one:
Will the GS 60 Ghost Pro (GTX 970M with Broadwell processor) be available in the "Red Edition" in the US - either any time soon or at all?
Thanks -
currently, we don't have any plans to have the GS60 Ghost Pro Broadwell in Red for the US.

Out of curiosity, your GT72 Dominator series and the Titan GT80 come with 3GB GTX 970Ms and 4GB GTX 980Ms. Are these still MXM cards? It seems all the other MXM cards come with double that amount of VRAM (6/8).

I've seen both 4GB and 8GB versions for the GT72. All are MXM modules.

Best to double check with your reseller to confirm the VRAM size prior to the purchase. -
Anybody know when the driver updates for Haswell MSI laptops coming out? Their taking way too long.

Do any of you guys know what the ballpark cost on a motherboard repair/replacement on a motherboard for out of warranty laptops? I have GT60 (Ivy Bridge) and with the dGPU dying, I'm not sure whether it's the mobo or the dGPU itself. I'm taking a look at options for repairing this laptop, or just replacing it with a Skylake.

Thanks. I was mainly looking for a ballpark figure. I gotta dig up my old 670M to figure out if it's the slot or the card that's bad.
I'm thinking at this point, I'd rather it be the slot. I can at least do some gaming with an old 670M - even if it's long in the tooth. -
Hi guys!
Is it possible in a GE62 to boot Win10 from a M.2 SSD with PCI-E x4 (e.g. Samsung SM951)? -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
You will have to grow older
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
There are only a handful of notebooks that have a PCIe m.2 option available. On the GE62 you would need to do a raid 0 configuration on the SSDs to get increased speeds.
-
Thanks for the answers!
I was just curious because the manual of the notebook says that it has three M.2 slots from which two of them features SATA3 and the third is a combined SATA3 and PCI-E x2/x4 slot. So this means even if I buy a PCI-E M.2 SSD and put it into the third slot it will still use the SATA3 interface and I won't get extra speed? -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I don't believe a PCIe one would work, I haven't seen one offered by anyone in that model. I believe it only has support for M.2 Sata.
