Hi again I have ordered GE72 2QF (970M) witch intel haswell but can someone tell me where i can find windows 7 drivers for it? (on MSI global i see drivers for 2QD version but nothing for 2QF...)
-
Just use the drivers from Nvidia's website.
-
Face palm not GPU ones but others like wifi, lan, IRST, audio....
-
Best bet us to go to their respective vendors.
Intel for chipset, rapid storage, and graphics. Possibly Wi-Fi depending on the card.
Killernetworking.com for lan Wi-Fi.
Realtek for sound and sd card reader.
Those will get you most of the way there. Some things like keyboard, etc, you'll have to get from MSI. You can use a similar model as long as you don't apply firmware upgrades. -
Ok so if other things work that's great thanks.
-
When msi will provide new synaptics driver for win 10 it wants to update all the time and it updates to non working version! (num doesn`t switch betwen tp/num pad). And what about sound blasta !

Besides drivers, BIOS and EC are also important in terms of support for peripheral devices such as keyboard, touchpad, etc.Hopefully MSI provides that extraordinary support. -
Hello, I'm looking to buy a GT72 2QE and have a couple of questions:
Do all non G-SYNC models of the new Broadwell GT72's come with an IPS display? I know the G-SYNC ones do, but I'm wondering about the others.
And also, do all the different new models with Broadwell also feature 2 USB 3.1 slots or are some still just 3.0?
Thanks! -
If you can wait 3 weeks, you can get a Skylake based GT72. It'll have an IPS screen and a lot of other goodies that'll make it worth the wait.
You can find the newer specs on MSI's website. -

I think all Broadwell GT72 are G-SYNC so there isn't an "non G-SYNC" version. At least for the ones we've offered. Is there a certain version you were looking to so we can double check.
I think all Broadwell GT72 also have 2x 3.1 ports as well. -
Yeah, I'm looking at the 1632, which is a UK model. Full code 9S7-178131-1632.
It says that it's a "wide view" panel - does that automatically mean IPS? Any info is appreciated, thanks! -
I'm definitely considering this, however my worry is that the new models with 980m and G-SYNC are gonna release with a high cost in the UK, and my absolute limit is £2000.
That's kinda why I'm looking at the 1632 non G-SYNC version, which shares almost all the same specs as the G-SYNC model but is £300 cheaper plus ships with free headphones (meh) and extended 3 yr warranty (yay!)Last edited: Sep 4, 2015 -

Thanks for the full model number. I see it does not have a G before 1632 so you're right, it appears to not be a G-SYNC version. I would also think it is not an IPS, as that is usually a desirable feature and they would promote it. In the U.S the previous models that did not have G-SYNC also did not have IPS, except for the very top end models. -
Thanks for your reply. I just did a bit more searching for other retailers offering the 1632 model, and found one which, although not specifically mentioning IPS, lists the following:
" Wide Viewing Angle Display
MSI gaming notebook built in with latest high quality Wide-View panel LCD display takes image clarity to a whole new level with higher pixel resolution. The images are amazingly much more sharp and vivid with 40% more contrast level and 40% more brightness level than regular TN panel. When you're playing games, you will have breathtaking and brilliantly true-to-life viewing experience."
Is that a confirmation of IPS? Thanks for your help, this isn't my area of expertise
-

It may be a similar technology like PLS, although it doesnt mention that either. IPS is trademarked by LG so you need to get the proper license to use or advertise it. So technically it is not IPS but it could be very similar technology. -
To my knowledge, the only non-TN 17" panels currently available are LG IPS panels.
In other words, if it's being touted as heaving wide viewing angles, it's IPS. -
What is the difference between the gt72 and gt72s?
-
S for Skylake processor?
-
at first first that's what I thought too but they both have skylake cpu and they're both the same thickness so "s" doesn't seem to stand for slim either
-
Quick comparison: Non-s: ESS SABRE HiFi DAC, USB 3.1 SuperSpeed+ interface built in (optional). But probably the MSI guys can be more specific.
-
Just bought a G72s 6qe 014sg. There doesnt seem to be g-sync and panel is 60hz refresh...... the sticker on my laptop says g-sync....... reset the pc and installed all device drivers again and still no g-sync.
-
From what I see, the GT72S has the CM236 chipset and SuperRaid 4 (2x PCI-E M.2 and 2x SATA M.2) while the GT72 has the HM170 chipset without SuperRaid 4 (1x PCI-E M.2 and 2x SATA M.2).
The GT72S also has GSYNC with a 75Hz panel while the vanilla does not. -
Check your chipset and make sure it has a a CM236 and not a HM170.
-
How do I check the chipset?
Device manager says i got a intel 100 series C230 chipset......
Intel chipset identifier software from intel site does not work, saying the logged in user has no privilleges...? Im admin.
Another strange thing. nvidia control panel system info says i got 8gb video memory but MSI help desk software system info says I have 4gb vram instead.... ?? -
Mine has 2 pcie storage slots as reported in BIOS.
-
Sounds like a GT72S. Did you download the latest drivers from Nvidia's site?
-
Drivers from nvidia don't install.... Saying no compatible hardware found, but msi's nvidia drivers install just fine.....
Gonna bring it to the service centre near me to have them verify. -
You may want to try a modified driver from the 970m/980m upgrade thread. For awhile, the Nvidia drivers wouldn't work without the mod. It's pretty much a modded INF file that would allow it to install. You just had to allow unsigned drivers to install.
I don't know if that would give you GSync or not as the GT60/70 didn't have it, but it's with a shot. -
Any news of the refresh MSI GS30 and new dock ?
-
Went to the place I purchased the notebook and seller contacted the distributor and in turn contacted MSI. Saying that they know of the issue of GT72S 6QE has a bug in the bios that makes it not recognizing nvidia drivers and no g-sync..........
Speechless. Why did MSI release a product that is not ready? I would not have purchased this if I knew there is no g-sync.
Distributor told me MSI will have an updated bios out tonight or tomorrow. Lets see. -
Just want to confirm with you that under the nvidia control panel, there is no Gsync options even shown correct?
If the Gsync option is available straight out of the box (before connecting to the internet and doing any updates) or after a factory reset, the problem may lay with how windows 10 handles its updates and might have failed to install a driver.
If you are having issues with Gsync not showing up completely, try a factory reset and see if its there. If not, might have to wait for an bios update. -
Already did a reset. Still no g-sync and panel is still 60hz
-
Glad you at least got an answer, even if it's not a good one.
What part of the world do you live in? And if you don't mind, how much was your laptop? We haven't seen pricing information here in the US, so I'm curious as to what they're going for. -
I just an answer from our HQ team. They did in fact find out it has to do with the bios and the Nvidia drivers. Once the new bios is out, please update to it and the Gsync should work!
-
The Model he bought is a singapore model, so im assuming somewhere in that region. the prices there will be a little bit skewed compared to the US prices though.
-
Got a pre release bios from the distributor. Updated and g-sync is there.....great?
1st thing, g-sync does work.
2nd thing, still not able to use nvidia drivers, only able to use msi drivers. nvidia drivers still complaining no compatible hardware found.
3rd experience occasional flicker / quick black screens in games. Severe black screening in 3dmark firestrike..........
4th everytime when windows 10 shuts down, i will get a " unable to write to memory a certain address error message. This error was there since fresh out of the box btw.
5th panel is still 60hz. Read everywhere that its suppose to be 75hz now?
So all I can say is, hold up on purchasing this until MSI gets this fixed. Have been getting msi machines for my office, but very disappointed they release such a product.hmscott likes this. -
Yup got it from Singapore. And yup price is a little skewed. my sku is 014sg, so guess my configuration is unique to Singapore?
Great screen and great audio though. -
Hi could MSI create an official adapter to utilize the 2nd hdd bay in the GT72? It would make sense IMO.
-
When will the GT72/GT72S's be released with the full GTX980?

Too early to say anything about this, and some details are probably under NDA. -

If my time as a tech enthusiast tells me anything, is it is usually not a good idea to buy the "first generation" of any product that comes out. Best to wait a generation, and see how it fares in time, and if anything gets upgraded and fixed in the later models. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
That's the same for pretty much everything, but which is worse? Hardware, or software?
It depends on your past experience with these things, but I would gamble on new HW (Intel) rather than SW (Win10 on VM only).nightingale likes this. -
I' agree. Intel's i7s and platforms have been pretty evolutionary. Skylake adds some new stuff, but not enough to put me off from buying one. Intel's been pretty reliable on the hardware front.
Windows is generally bumpy when new versions deploy, unless it's an SE or R2 spin of an existing OS.Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

Yup, look through history and majority of them make sense.

It's been ages since I've seen a truly buggy Intel platform. The Sandy Bridge SATA debacle was problematic but before that? The old 820 chipset that used a protocol translator from Rambus memory to normal SDRAM was the last big one I remember, and that was 15 years ago. That and the famous Pentium bug. Intel hasn't had very many hardware issues. Most I remember involved 3rd party chipsets (Via in particular).
For software, let's just say Microsoft keeps us well-employed.

Hello everyone, I have a quick question I was going to buy a GS60 couple days ago because I've saved some money for this comp. But I saw that 6th gen i7s are coming soon( I've seen 27sept?)so can anyone tell me if we will be able to buy these new 6thgens with DDR4 rams in US or Canada in next couple of weeks? If its something like March I will just buy a 5th gen MSI but I really liked the new DDR4 ram + Skylake.
Any answer is appreciated. Thanks -
Shipping date is supposedly Sept 27th, so I'd wait and see.
I've seen the new GT72 for sale already in the US.
Not sure if Canada's using the same dates. -
Thanks for the answer it looks like the 27th is the big day.
-
Are the ones on xotic pc and http://www.ebay.com/itm/MSI-GS60-Gh...-SSD-Laptop-/141785965855?hash=item21031a251f here is the new ones that are supposed to come out? The ones that have i7-6700HQ?

Can the MSI GE72 Apache Pro's (a 2QD in my case) use more power than they can get from being plugged in? That is without downloading any new utilities for overclocking or what have you. Had an issue where despite being plugged into an outlet playing a resource intensive game still drained the battery. It's partially resolved by locking the fps to 30 and disabling v-sync but I'd still like to see if there is a solution even if its as simple as messing with the power plan settings or something.
